A smirk grew on Frost's face. "Oh, I'd be up for one any day," she said as she dissapeared again. She still lost to Lyn, which was predictable, but only by a few seconds.
The room was adorned with food ranging from meat to insects-
hold it. INSECTS.
She went to that table faster than Lyn could blink and started grabbing a bunch of grasshoppers onto her plate. Suddenly remembering the presence of Lyn, she looked back to see if any wierd expression popped up in his face, which was what her clan would get from other such well-known dragon clans.
"Ehe, I don't know about you but where I came from insects are literally our staple food," she chuckled nervously, hoping the other dragon doesn't throw up and all. Living in the coldest regions, there isn't much food choice and insects are the only things her clan can gather enough for everyone to eat. Meat and fish were rare and plants were close to a miracle.

Estelle got back on her feet and dusted her cape off.
"Sorry," she repeated once more. "And the name's Estelle," she said quietly. She knew she didn't want to interact with a lot of dragons, but surely one wouldn't hurt? "And if you don't mind, I'd love to spend time with you," she added, the candles brightening slightly.

It felt good to simply run through the halls, but Lyn still longed to stretch his flight wings. That would come later, he supposed as he barely beat Frost. Perhaps it was because he had expended a lot of electricity on the first race but it was thrilling to have such close competition. He was about to point that out when Frost quite possibly traveled faster than the speed of sound and loaded up on a mountain of bugs. Her plate looked ready to buckle under the sheer number of grasshoppers and he had to stifle a laugh at how eager she was. "Don't worry, bugs were all we ate too." He assured, wandering over a much more relaxed pace to load his own plate full of bugs.
Being primarily airborn for most of their lives, bugs was the easiest food to catch. After all, they shared the same habitat and were the easiest to hunt. Some more adventurous hatchlings caught birds but that was quickly spat out as having blood running down one's maw while learning how to safely avoid lightning was inconvenient at best. Sometimes, they also ate grass, becoming a secondary supplement in their diet due to it's bountiful nature but bugs were always the most consistent meal the flock had.
"I get you, don't even get me started on fish. Those things both look disgusting and smell even worse." He fake gagged, nodding slightly to the greenish dragon that was scarfing down on fish. "Bugs are so much better." Of course he didn't hate the dragon eating the frankly unappetizing dish but he couldn't fathom finding them appealing. They just... stared blankly into your soul and revealing all your deepest sins as you ate them. Gross

Hearing Estelle’s words, Lifei nodded, and walked a little ahead of Estelle. “Come on, we’re gonna be late. I know we both haven’t eaten at all, so we should hurry. Otherwise there’s not going to be any food left” She gestures with her claw, pointing towards the very nearby but oh so far dining cave

"We always ate from the earth. We were born from the earth so we take what she gives us." He admitted, wondering what grilled squid tasted like. It would be different from the plants that he and his family liked to solely graze on. He wondered what it would even look like, what it would smell like. There was a whole world that he didn't know and he ached to experience it. "Mostly it was fruits or leaves but whatever the earth gives us we take it with gratefulness. We also get bugs sometimes if we're desperate. but most of the time we ate a lot of plants. Um.. I guess I like dragon fruit. It was a plant that we didn't get often but there's a desert groove near our home that has rows and rows of cacti and if you wait for the right season you can get a lot of fruit."
It was a funny how Pitaya had been the one to find said cactus groove. Mother Earth had led him there, her gentle touch a careful and guiding as he saw the world once again through new eyes. The Pitaya groove, as his family called it. After the fruit, after the dragon.

Frost let out a relieved sigh at Lyn's answer before proceeding to snatch every single grasshopper until her plate could almost break at the weight. She also went to grab a new plate to fill it up with fruits, some looking so bizarre to her that Frost thought they came from another planet.
A really spiky green one caught her eye but it stinks. She still took one, though, to try to see if the taste was as strong as the smell. If her stomach was unlimited, she'd try every fruit served at the dinner, but her small body can only hold so little.
Happy with her choice, she sat at the nearby table and waited for Lyn to come with his meal, reading the book she

The light dragon nodded and they both made their way into the hall. Estelle was pleased to see the variety of food available and wet to the plant section first, picking out a bunch of vegetables that made a pretty and colorful salad. Even though a lot of dragons have taken a lot of food, there were still plenty more left for the others.

Sidon looked at the ice dragon with loads of grasshoppers, his claws twitching. Dragons actually ate those? How did they tolerate with those twitching legs and such?

“Dragon…fruit? Those pinkish skinned fruits with green tips? Like scales? The one with soft white flesh or purple pink flesh on the inside? I think I’ve heard of those. I’ve never actually tried one.” Aether asked, as if trying to recall what on earth that was. She led Pitaya into the cave, before taking a piece of grilled squid, and some scallops, along with a fair share of vegetables and her favorite swallowberries and stormberries, both of which seemed strangely untouched. Huh. That was odd. She figured they didn’t really like that kind of berry. She balanced her plate on her head, waiting for Pitaya to finish choosing his food

"Mhm! It's pretty hard to harvest so not many are exported." He explained, sniffing the air as soon as they entered the cave. While he could make out the outlines of the food, he couldn't quite tell what each food was but was naturally drawn to the fruits section. Letting his nose lead him, he picked out a few fruits that seemed interesting enough that he was willing to try. He stayed clear of one particularly spiky fruit though, the pungent scent assaulting his nose in a way that was almost offensive.
There was a pleasant almost fiery smell coming from one place and he wandered over to it. One of the dishes had faint notes of salt the sea. "Is this the grilled squid you were talking about?" He wondered, blinking a few times. The shape was weird but he could kind of understand how an animal like this was made for the water

Taking mostly bugs and a few fruits, Lyn slid into the seat beside Frost. He was a little bit interested in the book that the other had

While the book was what Frost was looking for, talking about the importance of the gem and all, it gave nothing new to her. She pouted as she flipped through the proceeding bare pages. How were they bare anyway? They really didn't want make the information public.
With a groan she shut the book and continued to eat her meal. Maybe if the library is open at night she'll continue to wander around there, but there's a high chance that it won't be. New to the exotic fruit she randomly picked, she put the whole thing in her mouth, not knowing there was a huge seed inside it. Suddenly she let out a choke and coughed out the seed that was the size of a baseball. After going through a coughing fit, she recovered with a bowl of water.
"Oh god it is strong," she said. She went off to grab some mint to chew, hoping it would get rid of the smell. It didn't have much of an effect, but at least the smell wasn't as strong as before. She went back to her seat and munched her grasshoppers like they were chips.

Estelle munched her food slowly, keeping an eye at the ice fae across her. The minute she started choking on the fruit, Estelle was scared that she'd die but luckily she managed to cough the seed out. What a relief.
Though the surprise was literally scrawled on her face. No matter how many dragons tell her, she never thought insects as edible. She can't imagine someone gulping down a huge crawler and look as delighted as having a five star meal. Watching that dragon casually eating those grasshoppers really blew her mind and she found herself staring and wondering just how much that little dragon can eat.

Lifei grins “I take it you don’t eat bugs, or durians either? Me too. But I supposed we should respect what everyone eats, even if it is odd. She’d survive well in the wild, with a resilient stomach like hers.” She pokes at the shell with a claw, flipping the lobster body over.
Grabbing a tray, he filled it with a variety of spiders, butterflies, and roaches, as well as other things. "Oh? What's this one? Never tried it before...Oh! That's an oddly colored bee." Soon his plate was filled with a salad of bugs...minus the plants.
Itsu didn't take too much time deciding on her food. She found some caribou meat, one of her favorites, it reminded her of home. Occasionally when they'd eat wolves, they'd find a herd of their prey nearby, and bring back both the hunter and its quarry. Usually the caribou would be covered in snow and stored for later, but Itsu remembered the satisfaction of ripping through their thick hide with her claws, and munching into the bulky meat underneath. It tasted different from wolf meat, and that had fascinated her. She took her tray and went with her classic strategy of sitting as far away from everyone as possible.
The sheer amount of dragons made him uneasy, and the constant chatter made his ears hurt. He decided to simply start eating so he could finish sooner and leave this crowded place. He usually didn’t mind talking to other dragons, or other dragons talking to him, but he was going to have to get used to all the other dragons at this school that would fill the hallways and gather in large groups constantly. Halu was fine with only having one or two dragons that he usually talked to, but in this sea of dragons he felt uncomfortable. He sighed and started eating his food. It would prove useless to him to continue to worry about these things, but he couldn’t get it out of his head.
Solstice headed straight for the plant section, choosing her favorites that reminded her of her home. Soon her plate was covered in a salad-like assortment of herbs and berries, and she took that with her to find someplace to sit, grinning happily. She found a spot near a larger group of dragons and began introducing herself, chatting happily away and almost radiating light from her positive attitude. Soon, the entire table was talking loudly with each other, and Solstice smiled with the light of success dancing in her eyes.

Frost made eye contact with the dragon who asked her the question, a grasshopper she was chomping on in her mouth.
"Well, if you grew up with it as your only main food source, it becomes normal I guess," she said, tossing another one in her mouth. "It might taste icky when it's raw, but they're delicious when it's fried or cooked. Want one?" she offered innocently, holding one of her fried grasshoppers in her claws.

୨୧ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ୨୧
The Light dragon looked at Lifei. "Yeah, I guess. I'm actually curious on how they taste like but never have the guts to actually eat one," she said, eating her lettuce. She moved her attention from the fae to the lobster shell Lifei was picking on. "Wow, how do you even eat and still retain the shell's shape like that?" she asked. If it were her, the shells would probably be crushed into pieces, but it wasn't like she ate lobsters that way. She would normally separate the meat and the shell first before enjoying one.

Itsu set aside some of the meat and squashed it up for her foxes, feeding them each individually as to prevent any fighting, which tended to happen around feeding time. Itsu was a very stern dragon when it came to feeding her companions, and the newbies soon learned: Her food was her food. Any attempts to steal it would earn a swift retaliation. Kitsune dragons and foxes may be friends, but a good tamer knew how to set boundaries.
After she had fed her foxes, she set to feeding herself. Itsu was a very fast eater. The best way to avoid being stolen from, of course, was to not give anyone enough time to steal from you. This didn't just work against foxes, but annoying siblings as well, as sometimes the first one done would try to take from anyone who hadn't finished. Itsu had grown strong from not only fighting wolves, but racing her siblings. Apparently outsiders considered wolfing(pun intended) down your food to be disgusting and rude, but Itsu never understood the problem. It was just nature, right? Her tray was licked absolutely clean within moments, no trace, not a scent or a crumb, left when she was done. Eclipse of course decided to check and make sure, and even without Itsu's tail nudging her away, she could see that there was nothing for her.
