"A-ah no Its just that I haven't heard or met any dragon like that. If I have, they would have had to hide it so its really cool that you're comfortable talking about it." Pitaya hastily said, munching on whatever was on his plate. He wasn't paying too much attention to that anyways. His family was little more more conservative no matter how well meaning they were and members who didn't fit into their ideals were quietly ignored. Things like have many personalities or wandering attentions weren't talked about nor acknowledged.
A burst of smokey yet fishy kind of saltiness suddenly burst across his tongue as he widened his eyes. The chewy texture was odd and Pitaya had to work his jaw to grind the meat down and there was a distinct oily and charred flavour which seemed to permeate the food. If he had to guess, he would assume that the heavy salt and water smell was the ocean, working in interesting tandem with the flamed meat. He didn't know if he liked it, per say, but it was definitely beyond his wildest imagination

... what?
Lyn was bewildered as he dared to peek up, unsure of what exactly was happening. Usually people either accepted or ignored his apologies, not... attempt to race him. Customs meant that he should stay postured and exposed but Lyn knew that his own (frankly kind of outdated) customs didn't mean much in such a diverse school. So quite slowly and cautiously, he lifted himself out of the kneel and tucked his wings back into his back while keeping an eye on the newcomers warily.
"Don't complain if I leave you in the dust then." He muttered in a manner that would have been almost haughty if his eyes hadn't still retained some of the regret.

Tesona sighed in relief, with her having evaded most mayhem that the first day of academy brings. She did not have any contact to family or friends, so saying goodbye and such was easy enough, she went in there early. Then covered herself with a coat during introductions, only speaking brief sentences. It went all well...
Taking out a little lens she wore and stretching a little to finish her food, her ears perked at a word she hoped she wouldn't hear until late evening.
Race? Race? I heard something about a raaace!~
When that word fell, the moss immediately took on a darker and more reserved color and her scales folded up, releasing electricity and making an audible electric sound, followed by the respective eye gaining brightness and a small effect of thunderbolts around her iris. With the lightning spirit in Tesona now awakened and all restraint lost, she jumped off, extending her wings, though thanks to the mossy left, she is unable to fly. Instead, she glides a little bit, landing with a heavy thud behind Lyn and then straightening up.
"Count me in! I love racing! And thunder! And making new friends! I am Tessy, by the way!"
Her voice had an electrical sound in the background and her smile was wide and only complimented by her wings being spread out.
The black dragon wrapped his tail around his back legs, leaning against the side of a bookshelf, helping himself to his salad. He supposed they'd stay here for the rest of dinner, provided it didn't suddenly become noisy.

"Alright, let's go!" Frost cheered dramatically. After giving directions, she slowed to stand beside Lyn.
"Just letting you know that you don't need to feel so guilty. I get how it feels to not be able to control powers," she whispered, sensing the other dragon wasn't totally in the normal mood. "I could teach you some tips later? I used to freeze evrything with my feet since I couldn't control my temperature," she offered, though she doesn't know if the imaging method would work on Lyn, it definitely won't hurt to try.
They reached a green open field, surrounded by tall trees and towering mountains in the distance. Frost left Lyn to think about her offer while she flew towards a tree and carved a huge X into it's bark. It was pretty far away so Frost took a while to come back.
"Alrighty, who reaches the tree first wins!," she said, properly stretching her wings and dropping her body temperature as preparation for her new trick. "Ready?" she asked everyone.

"Oh, I think geography is nice. Personally, I like learning about magic brews," Estelle said, taking out a book and her notebook, filled with notes. "I mean, it is close to chemistry, but with some magic in it. It's really cool," she mumbled to herself. She always loved the feeling when she makes a brew she's never done before, anticipating whether something amazing comes out or if it'll explode in her face.

Was he really that obvious, he wondered, shaking his head almost in embarrassment. "No, I'm told that I grew up in an area called The Flowering Caves. Its technically a desert biome but the cave systems provide so much shade and moisture that the interior is almost like a jungle. I don't think I've known anything other than sand and earth." He explained. The elders had once speculated that the cave system had once been a temple, ruins of glorious arches held up by bone and vine lining some of the walls. No one knew what had made the intricate ecosystem in the first place among the barren sands and tenacious earth but it had given his family a place to thrive nonetheless. An oasis among the desert that even had its own steady supply of water. With how humid the caves naturally were, gathering water was just a matter of placing stone carvings under large leaves and waiting for water to roll off

It wasn't that he felt guilty about almost killing someone, he was just frustrated that his emotions had gotten so out of hand that his body decided that murdering another dragon was the only solution. Still, he kept his beak shut and only nodded in gratitude. He shifted to make room for the newcomer who Lyn absentminded noticed also seemed like an electricity dragon. "Just because you're giving me advice later doesn't mean I'll go easy on any of you." Lyn warned, crouching down and letting all eight wings unfurl with a snap. It was a magnificent sight, to see them displayed so proudly. Thunderclouds seemed to roll under his leathery wings, stormy colouration shimmering under the light.
In flights of straightforward speed, while his flock was fast, it wasn't their strong suit. They excelled in aerial maneuvers and prolonged flights but speed was definitely one of their strengths. He had confidence that he could beat most of the dragons present but the real threats would be Frost and the weird electric dragon with plants weighing down on of her wings.

"Who said I wanted you to go easy on me?" she said to Lyn. "In fact, if you could go as fast as your other flock members, I'll be glad if you did so because I'm not going to go easy on you either just because you're my friend," she added. She didn't care if she kept losing, the satisfaction would be better when she finally beats them rather than an easy, early win.
She did devise a technique to try and reduce the air density and increase heat, but never got to try it at home since it was too cold there anyway. Here, where it was warmer and spacious, it would be the perfect place to try it.
"I'll countdown then," she said. Suddenly, Frost sounded really serious. A hiss could be heard as she sucked in air. This time, instead of taking in the heat, she tried to breath in the cold air, storing it up inside her body. She pictured distributing the coldness she gathered to her wings.
3.2.1.
If the first flap she showed Lyn earlier was strong, this one was stronger and left more mist than before. She made sure she left it behind and not around her. And it was for a reason. She felt like she cheated slightly, but she didn't say they couldn't use their abilities in the first place. It wouldn't slow them much anyway, just cause a little heaviness in their wing.
Simply put short, what she did was create colder air for the dragons behind her, making what always dragged her down become a weapon. It took a lot of energy to continue doing this though. After she made a head start, she resumed normal flight, feeling the slight weight on her wings again. She decided she'd use the technique again later in the race. Her light weight helped maintain her steady, fast speed.

Tesona shivers, some scales discharging and letting a small sparkly aura appear around her before starting to run, picking up some phenomenal speed. The open field was perfect for Tesona, who branched off the airborne superiority of electric dragons in her line and instead becoming one of the fastest field runners. With the other dragons busy in the air, all Tesona needed to do was to lower her head, pick up more speed and use her electrical capabilities to run even faster, taking on a unsurprising good start.
Aether tilts her head in the fascination. “A cave in the desert with plenty of water? Like a jungle? Odd…but it does show how powerful nature can be. An oasis, surely, a haven of peace for you and your family. If I ever go to the deserts again, I’ll be on the lookout for things like that. I would like to see how this works for myself. How interesting….gosh I’m rambling again. Isn’t dinner almost over?”
In the middle of the night, loud noises that sounded like a mix of thunder and glass being hit woke up the students. Some looked out the windows to see what's going on while others tried to sleep again. Worst of all, some dragons, especially those who tried using their powers, noticed they were feeling weak and their powers weren't working.
Araceli woke up and joined most of Opal dorm in trying to find out what was going on. Meanwhile in Amber dorm Sidon was trying to sleep again, but it wasn't working

The sound of shattering glass almoat pissed Frost off. After almost flapping her wings off, seems like having a good night's sleep was too much to ask for.
Sadly no one won the race because a teacher had told them to go to bed
Annoyed, she stood up and let out a tired yawn before walking towards where the sound was the loudest too her. Strangely, she felt warmer, which was weird since her regular mist releases almost never let her heat up.
She saw Araceli in the crowd and approached her sleepily. "What in the world is that sound?" Frost asked, rubbing her eyes. If it was a dragon breaking in or something, she just wished they would hurry stealing the stuff and leave her to sleep in peace.

Unlike the other dragons, Estelle wasn't really bothered by the sounds. While she did feel a little unsettling, she figured it wasn't worth a commotion so she stayed in bed. She was still unable to fall asleep with the noise so she simply tried to brighten one of her candles so she could read a book.
To her surprise, instead of blaring with light as it always would, it flickered and only provided very dim lighting. Now Estelle started to feel really worried. It's too bad Lifei wasn't here to talk with her about what's going on.

Aether was very panicked. She couldn’t use her magic at all, and she figured none of the other dragons could either. “This has to do with the crystal of power. Something’s happened to it.” She said, so loudly and clearly her voice carried throughout most dormitiories, but also so teacher couldn’t hear.
The sound of thunder and breaking glass woke her up and when standing up, she realized that... there was a very weird feeling in her body. Not only the power was dwindling but also her control over said body... while making her way to the crowd, she constantly fell again, only able to get in a few steps at a time. Her moss had a worryingly brown tint to it, while the scales looked more dull than before.
"Does... anyone know what's happening? I feel so... not in control."
