Coffee Talk ~ RP
Forum-Index → Roleplay → Coffee Talk ~ RP"well, I was gonna stick around for a bit but Theo's sleeping, so I don't have much to do."
he shrugged.
"I'll stick around if you need someone to talk to."
He fished out the pack of cigarettes. there were only 3 left. He would have to save them. he pocketed them again.
"I was actually gonna... go eat or somethin'."
his cynical laugh was uncharacteristic. clearly his exhaustion was revealing his true nature.
wickedness?
Or is it
weakness?
You decide.
Cath put a finger to her lips, and smiled at Kendo mischievously. Quietly walking up to the counter, she slipped a wad of singles and fives in the tip jar, arranging them just so. She crept back to her seat, and slipped into the chair. Unlike many of the patrons of the shop, she preferred tea, and was not caffeine-addicted. She could wait for hours if Theo needed his sleep.
Opening her case, she took out her laptop and plugged it in. She took out a large sandwich, and slid it across the table to Kendo. As a human, she had absolutely no powers or special abilities, but one micro-skill that she possessed was the ability to know when someone would benefit from her bringing food. She was a decent cook, after all.
"So what's new, what's exciting? You seem... off somehow today. Tough test? Call from home? One of the many existential crisises so common to college students?" Her tone was light-hearted, but her intent couldn't be more serious.

He graciously accepted the sandwich, biting into it. It was by far the best food he'd had in the past four months.
"Nah, just having a tiny bit of trouble with money."
he said it like it was nothing, but the empty, tired look in his eyes gave away everything. Kendo was really struggling, but he was too nice to bother anyone about it. he continued eating the sandwich.
"hm... is this what actual food tastes like?"

She looked across the shop at the sleepy Theo. He wasn't the only one who was struggling financially. "Money troubles, eh? I remember those days all too well. Interview to interview, paycheck to paycheck at a crappy part-timer."
"But actually, I might be able to help. The company I work for is looking to hire a few someones. It's a paid internship position, almost double minimum wage, sixteen to thirty-two hours a week depending on your availability. You'd be editing drafts, and then one of your superiors would run it through a program to ensure the quality of your work. After a year and change, I'm still not sure of your major... but we get a variety of different submissions. As long as you have decent grammar skills, you could edit anything from memoirs, to fiction, to scientific journals. Does it sound like something you might be interested in?"

It was in her nature to try to make things... work out. When she could put the pieces of the puzzle of the world together in a way that made sense, that helped the most amount of people, that was when she truly felt alive. Cath was very Type-A at times. Organization and logic were her strong suits. But she loved the freedom of ideas that was an intrinsic part of editing and writing.

"In my office, now." She lowered her head. Word in all the works said that someone was getting laid off, and even though she worked hard and was never late, she was sure it was her.
When they entered the office, her boss' eyes softened. "You already know, don't you?" She nodded. "Look, I'm really sorry. We like you, but I had to get rid of someone and you've been here the shortest amount of time."
Kitty gave a half-smile. "I'll be fine."
Without thinking, her feet carried her to the coffee shop from earlier. Might as well... She sighed, then stepped inside.
Ooohhh
Kitty marched right over to the barista. "I'll take whatever the guy over there likes." She declared, pointing at Neo.
She smiled at the new arrival, a Neko girl she had seen around town one or two times. The only Neko that Cath knew was Kaori, who was currently napping in her cat form by the window.
"Ello," She said, looking at her, curiosly. "I'm Cath!"
