Normal may not be the best type, but it's not bad either. Many people say it is because it's not super-effective on anything, but Normal only has one weakness in Fighting and immunity to Ghost. They also tend to have moves of different types.

Tauros was one of the biggest threats in gen 1 competitive due to its moveset. Hyper Beam didn't need a recharge turn back then as long as it killed, which was pretty much always due to the base power and STAB that Tauros got from it.

Not even gonna mention how it was pretty much the only counter to Psychic before both the types got nerfed in Johto by adding Steel and Dark.

i really like bug types, they're silly ^^ but if i had to pick the best type id go for either steel or dragon :OO (psychic is pretty cool too... and dark... too many types!!! XP)
