Muriel hears some people. She says in her shack, “Come children.
It’s not safe out there. You should come in. I have some tea.” she
said, continuing playing with her Limberjack.
Mack called after them, he had never met a human before, and he was
sad to see them go. He hoped they would come back, and he followed
them hoping they would see him.
“Oh just come inside for a quick chat. I promise I won’t hurt you.”
she said. She peeled out beyond her shed. She had greenish pale
skin, almost no teeth yet and a rope with two not that she was
chewing on. She looks at Eli. “You look like a nice young man.
Would you come closer?”
Muriel sees Ravenous for what he really was and smiles. Ravenous
should know about her. Everyone knew about her, except for the
newcomers. She said, “Calm down. I’m just an old woman living in a
shack on this property.”
Muriel can’t go far from her but, so she mentions for Ravenous to
come over. She smiles. “Would you like to come in?” she asked,
going in the shack and playing with her limberjack.
Muriel sees Mack. Those phoenixes. She could see them, because she
was a witch, but she didn’t tell the children. She knew they didn’t
know the secrets of this place.
Muriel goes inside her shack. “What are you doing? I’m trying to
get the kids here. You’re gonna get me nothing.” she said. “Bahumat
will be free soon and under my command. You could be a target.” she
said smiling.
“You know the treaty doesn’t work that way. You’ll come out empty
handed.” she said, getting some tea ready. “You’re crazy thinking
Stan will let you. There are his younglings.”
