“This is Maddox, an old friend of mine. He’s a fairy broker.” Grandpa said.

Luke asks, “What’s a fairy broker?”

Maddox answers, “Well, I catch fairies for a loving. I trade em, sell em, I do everything.” he said. “I came here to negotiate with your grandfather.” he said to the kids.

Maddox opens one of the boxes and out comes a fairy. It was fat with blue feathers and hummingbird wings. “This one is a Downey Sprite.” he said.

"Hmm? A fairy catcher?" Jupiter muttered, listening to the conversation. Not much of a threat to me though; Fairies are veeeery different to manticores. She thought.

I'm trying to think of a good signature, so... Use your imagination.

The Downey Sprite goes back in the box. “Turn off the lights. This one is very rare.” he said. He motions for Meg or someone to turn off the light.

Grandpa doesn’t respond. He waits goes over and turns off the light. Maddox opens the crate and out comes an orange glowing fairy. It starts singing the most beautiful melody, and it was hard to break the silence.

Even Jupiter stopped, dead silent, to listen to the fairy. She watched it through the window, mesmerized. Without even realising, she'd dropped into a hunting crouch. A small part of her wanted to catch and eat the fairy; but she shrugged this thought off. It was too beautiful.

I'm trying to think of a good signature, so... Use your imagination.

The fairy stopped singing and went back into the box. “Impressive ain’t it. There’s only one other known kind of fairy like this in the world.” Maddox said, turning the light back on. “It’s a Jinn Harp.”

Grandpa gasped. “How did you manage to find one?” he asked.

Maddox said, “I waited two months in the desert by an oasis. Hard, but worth it.”

Wait. But what if the humans started getting ideas about capturing bigger creatures? Jupiter thought, feeling slightly nervous. "HEY!" She butted in, glaring through the window. "YOU BETTER NOT GET ANY IDEAS ABOUT TRY TO TAKE ME DOWN, CAPEESH?"

Jupiter watched as the human shoved against her side, trying to move her. She barely moved at all, of course, as the human was much smaller than her. "That's quite pitiful, you know." She muttered, before picking her up and placing her further away from herself.

Grandpa said, “It’s about time for you kids to go to bed. Maddox and I are going to do business. No matter what you hear, we are only doing business.” he said and ushered them up to bed. Lena sat at the bottom of the only stairs to the attic to make sure the kids didn’t try to come down.

Jupiter sighed. She strutted off, into the forest, and back to her den. When she reached the mossy cavern, she lay down, drifting off to sleep.

AT MIDNIGHT

Theee was a lot of crashing downstairs and yelling and wiping and hollering. Lena still sat at the foot of the stairs, making sure the children wouldn’t come down to investigate.

Luke couldn’t sleep. There was too much noise.
