Dear AJ Parent,

On Friday, October 2, Animal Jam experienced a server outage that affected all users for a few hours over the weekend, and a small percentage of users for much longer.

Don’t worry — the security of your account information was not compromised, no game content was deleted or damaged in any way, and your child’s Animal Jam account (silvermoon9782) should now be completely back to normal. We’d like to offer you an explanation of what happened, however, and how we hope to make it up to you.

An upgrade to our database infrastructure on Friday created errors in our user authentication system that forced us to take the game offline for a period of time. Access to the game was restored after a couple of hours, but a small percentage of users were still unable to log in — the login interface returned an error saying that their username could not be found. Data supporting these accounts had to be carefully reimported into the live database, which for some players meant this problem persisted for several days.

We know this frustrated (and frightened) many of the affected players, and we are very sorry for the concern caused by this failure in our systems. The problem was identified and fixed, and this incident has resulted in changes to our systems and procedures that will prevent similar problems from occurring.

Your Member account affected by this incident has had its memberships extended for 7 days, to compensate you for time that may have been lost in trying to access the game. In addition, we will be crediting all affected player accounts — Member and non-Member — with 5 Diamonds. Please note this applies only to those accounts that could not be accessed on Saturday, October 3 or thereafter as a result of this system error.

We apologize for any inconvenience this caused you or your child. We value your participation in the Animal Jam community, and we continue to make every effort to provide a safe and secure environment for your child to enjoy the experience that is Animal Jam.
