"Hey!" called Sera, "You're a Lightchaser, right? Do you know where the carriage is? I heard RuoDie's voice..." "Do you require assistance?" Avery called into the void. She wasn't sure how much she could do, with her sense of direction quite badly messed up, but if she was shown the general area of the carrige, perhaps she could pull them there...? But she doubted that she would be able to see the boy if he pointed--- Seraphina seemed to be able to see the boy, but all Adele recognized was a faint yellow glow. Hopefully her eyes weren't damaged [Read more] |

Mika sat, doodling in her sketchbook with a pencil that would soon run out of lead. The lonliness was new to her. No one had wanted to talk since The Last Rain. Growing up in the countryside, she had always been surrounded by friends to roughhouse and play with. She had only recently moved to the metropolis to live with her grandparents earlier this year, but was quick to fit in---loud, friendly, and caring. Exactly the type of person you wouldn't expect in such a remedial course. But one month ago, that awful Nora Mawer had picked a fight with the smallest boy in class. A boy who had earlier confessed to being dangerously depressed--- borderline suicidal. Earlier that day, Mika had gotten a call from her parents, concerned that they couldn't upkeep the farm anymore without her around to help---so she was already stressed and unhappy; that awful jerk was just the straw that broke the camel's back. She didn't belong in this class, really. Or at least that's what she would tell herself. Anyway, Mika had gotten placed in the remedial arts course, which she didn't mind, considering she thought of art as her passion, aside from animals. One month ago, she had a promising future as a veterinarian, with high grades and a flawless plan for college. One month ago, everyone she knew was still alive. How was it possible for the world to literally end overnight? How was it possible that this stupid class had to survive? The supplies were dwindling, and it was only a matter of time untill they would follow--- Her lead snapped in the pink mechanichal pencil. Lovely, that had shaved probably half a week's worth of art off of the pencil's lifespan. Another cherry on top to the sh!t sundae. No, no depressing thoughts. Mika the optimist! Mika the strong! Mika the girl who would survive Armageddon! ...yeah, it wasn't working. She breifly considered attempting (once again) to introduce herself to someone, when Mr. Luther called out from the front of the room. "Everyone! Please take your seats. I have something to say." Releived for the distraction, Mika made her way to the front of the room and sat on a desk that was currently being used as a divider. [Read more] |

Her eyes squinted in the abyss, praying that this really was the current state of things and not her blindness returning. Avery could just barely make out a lantern--- it wasn't far away, but her peripheral vision was struggling. "Why are you questioning my consumprion of food? // just curious is all---" Avery could hear clipped bits of a conversation that sounded like it was right next to her--- but with the strange behavior of sound in this space, she couldn't be sure. She decided that her best course of action was to approach the victorian-esque lanern, and hope that the Lightchaser's captain was nearby. --- Seraphina listened in the darkness to a conversation that seemed to be between RuoDie, Hei Lei, and a third lightchaser. Thankfully, RuoDie sounded much less murderous. She wanted to call out again, but her throat felt scratched and raw from the panic attack. Her next course of action was to summon another lantern--- which she failed at, given that there was only one lightsource; not enough to generate an illusion. As a final resort, she walked in the general direction of Lumiere's lantern, hoping to find help. Oh gosh, has Lumiere used his power without his Vie!? Again!? When she reached the small lit clearing, she saw Ace. Again. This was the second time--- once outside that cage, earlier, and now. But something nagged at her. The woman they called Adele--- the blonde-haired woman who had helped Seraphina get to the carriage--- was nowhere in sight, replaced by Ace, who everyone seemed to awknowledge, meaning that it wasn't just a hallucination. Could it really be? If Avery recognized Sera, she made no signal. ** optional OC lore :) (would appreciate if u read it tho :>) "You're..." "Yes, it's still me, from the carriage." Responded an annoyed Avery, seriously questioning this woman's intelligence. "Do you... remember me, Ace?" asked Sera, hesitantly. Adele bit her lip. That was the same name she kept hearing in her visions---memories? So she was Ace. Did that mean--- it had to mean--- the person who had leveled the city was her? Was I the one who brought aboul that destruction? Then... who died? Her memories were far too hazy for an answer. But whatever happened, Seraphina was part of it. "Look, we really need to talk later, when we're not...in an abyss." ** So this meant Ace had survived? After all this time? Both girls were left with the same question. so who had died? [Read more] |

She squinted to make out the sight of a dim, old lamp. There was no way to be sure if they were still on the street or not--- gravity had been turned almost fully off, so it was impossible to feel the ground beneath her. "Hello?" Sera called again, noting that she heard no echo. ** A cold, damp box. the air tinged with an earthy smell. Sobs that felt miles away, a name etched on a rock--- Adele snapped back to reality, the crowded street replaced by a dark emptyness. She felt her power supporting people and rubble--- the only hint that she was still on the city road. What had happened? RuoDie lost her composure, a building shattered, and then... ...there was a cold tidal wave of memories or visions gripping hold of Avery... ...Memories that couldn't have been hers?... and then this. This choking, suffocating blackness, only illuminated by a single lanteren. Whose power was this? But as she thought the question, the answer came to her, dripping with irony. "Lumiere", the captain called himself--- the name of someone meant to brighten, with the soul of someone who would drench the world in darkness without a second thought. A sense of disdain for the Vie rose in her throat--- the unsettling familiarity of blindness set the amnesiac on edge. "RuoDie? Lumiere? LeQi? Hello?" called a voice in the abyss. So the lightchasers were also stuck in this state. [Read more] |

"Oh yes, the great Madame Liu LeQi. Who let her Ames rot in a glass prison like some caged exhibit. Who let it get broken—battered, bloody, half-dead— boy, I must be mistaken on the definition of care, mustn’t I?“ "Funny, isn’t it? The great Madame Liu LeQi—lecturing me on care? Because I could’ve sworn just minutes ago we were attempting to calm a rampant, destructive Ames. One that would stop at nothing to find its Vie. A Vie who calls other Ames tools" A churning feeling settled into her gut. Tell me, was it ignorance… or indifference? Did you even notice when your Ames started snapping? Or were you too busy playing saint to the masses to see the monster you were to the one that mattered? Or is that why you collect them? So no one looks too close when another ends up cracked beyond repair? Pathetic. You parade them around like trophies, but we both know the truth. You don’t save them. You just cage them prettier than the rest." RuoDie's voice had taken on an unfamiliar cruelty. But all the commotion seemed far, far away as Sera took in the destruction around. Her throat was closing up, her pulse racing. This was all a scene too familiar to her, a dance she didn't wish to partake in again. But her lightchasers were in danger, her vice-captain hurting. Seraphina could swallow her panic for them. Like she always did. Always on the brink of falling apart. Always suffering in silence. Always shrinking into a smaller box. And never acknowledged for it, even in this little found family of hers. - "RuoDie, please," she called, walking over to her leader. "This isn't you, calm down, I'm begging you." Tears began to stream down her face as she outstretched a hand to the Lightchaser. Sera threw a sideways glance at LeQi. How had she managed to set Sera's most caring friend off like this? A rage began to bubble within her--- this arrogant noblewoman, ruining the city and then ruining the lightchasers. and before that, ruining Madelyn's family "What have you done," Seraphina asked with a chilling calmness, "You had to destroy your Ame, destroying the city in the process. You had to destroy---" Calm, madelyn. This isn't about you. Not everything's about you. Do not add to the problem. Stop it. Her voice broke off, years of stifling herself put to use. Sera gritted her teeth, turning back to her friend. "RuoDie, can you hear me?" [Read more] |

“Madam, my apologies to the rustle. But due to the.. conflict at hand I fear it's not safe here. Please leave as soon as possible alongside your carriage.” He appeared to be talking to RuoDie, though Adele was right beside her. The audacity! Lumiere stepped out of the carriage, also scarcely acknowledging her. Now instead of irritating, it was also confusing. * Seraphina shifted inside the coach, jostled awake by the commotion outside. She had fallen asleep during the ride, in hopes that the paralysis would wear off. Thankfully, it mostly had, but she would likely not be able to exert herself for the rest of the day--- or the next few days, if she was unlucky. * A thought occurred to Adele. Oh, shvt. Is it...? She passed her hand over the solid door of the carriage, visibly relieved when her hand didn't fall through. So perhaps it's not happening again--- no need to worry, I'm still tangible. The guard that had adressed the Lightchaser's vicecaptain startled a little, only now noticing the blue-haired girl he hadn't seen approach. "Oh, hello madam." he said Adele, who had presumably just stepped out of the carriage. ... or perhaps it's not the boy's fault; perhaps Avery had only just materialized again--- obviously a side effect of m̸̫͈̪̰̓̇͑̒̈́̾͌͊á̶̡̡̺̘̟̂̍͂ď̷̨̧̟̺͚͉͕̣̓͌́͑͝é̸̛̻͙̠̙̠̤̓́͐̉̏̾l̶̻͔̱͓̲̟̾̽́̚͜y̶͇̙̼͔͈̓̔ǹ̴̛͕͍̻̏͛̉́̔̈́͊̕ ̸̡̧̗̞͌ͅa̷̰̫̥͙̍͐̀̊̈g̴̡̠̩̟̞͔̖̤̠̓a̷̭̹͙̹̠̩͙̟̿͛̂͜į̶̘͉̪̭̈́͒̀̎̅̈́̉̇͗n̸͈̻̙̱̻͓̺̳̊̈́̐̽͒̏̏͝) "Er, hello," came Adele's clipped response. She was looking past him, eyes transfixed on the most peculiar woman and man, both certainly more powerful than they let on. Her fingers twitched with longing, eager to pin the city's brutes to the ground. But the pair seemed to be handling them quite well--- still, it wouldn't hurt if she just--- No, no, she hadn't received orders yet. Adele glanced sidelong at the Captain, hoping for some silent permission to intervene. They wouldn't even know it was her; just a flick of the wrist- ** Sera gazed pityingly upon the sorry heap on the floor. Poor Hei Lei. Having missed pretty much most of the exchange, she had no clue why RuoDie wasn't beside her Vie or where several of the members had disappeared to, though she suspected it had something to do with the carriage door that had been left ajar. "Awh, Hei Lei, what happened?" asked Seraphina. She bit her lip. A week of recovery, then. It's alright, it's worth it to help a friend. With an graceful motion of her fingers, a small mouse appeared on the boy's head. It hopped down, scuttling around him, tentatively bopping him on the cheek before retreating several paces. **** Adele's head snapped to the side. Suddenly, something was very wrong. “Gentlemen. If there’s one thing I hate more than rowdy….insolences, it’s your blatant disrespect for my time. Please, explain yourselves and clear my path. Now.” The calm before the storm. One second. Two. Three. And then hell. Buildings, rubble, dust, screams, chaos. Large, ornate facades reduced to nothing in mere seconds. So Tao RuoDie finally snapped. Despite the absolute armegeddon going on, the woman from earlier walked forward, still somehow graceful as ever. "I didn't see you there, am I right to assume you're also a noble lady?" But Adele could scarcely concentrate on the conversation. Something else clawed at her throat as she watched buildings buckle and crumble. It was all far, far too familiar. Who was this reflection of Adele's past? Who was this mother-turned-murderer? A city in ruin. Buildings picked up like pebbles, tossed into one another without a so much as a second thought. A golden-eyed girl, her gorgeous gaze replaced by bleeding sockets. The harbringer of chaos is young, she can't be more than 12. Desperate pleas ringing out amongst panicked shrieks. "ACE, NO" called a choked sob. But the calls for mercy were lost upon such ears. Only one face, only one goal, only one woman. And then a different scene. A sobbing heap, a begging girl. She has to be saved. She can't die. No, impossible. A lifeless body, bleeding eyes and tangled blue hair. Tears falling on the unmoving face. She was so young. ˙ʇlnɐɟ ɹnoʎ s,ʇI 'ǝıppɐW *** For many moments, the scene was still. Buildings collapsed, bodies strewn about, the Lightchaser's vicecaptain at the center of it all. Adele stared into the middle distance, in some kind of trance. Her blue hair began to rise, then the rubble, then the people. Anything that wasn't bolted down began to gently float upwards, losing touch with gravity. ///[TL:DR -Adele was breifly invisible(?) -Sera is attempting to distract Hei Lei -RuoDie's outburst triggered sm sort of trauma in Adele, who has two visions--- 1) a rampage by a golden-eyed Ame named Ace, who is determined to kill Liu LeQi 2) Someone crying over a blue-haired body, and apparently a person named Maddie is to blame -everything in the vicinity is floating]\\\ [Read more] |

"Correct," responded the Ame, "I also go by Avery and Robin. I assisted in the battle and aftermath, and hope for an employment opportunity," she told the man she presumed was captain. Through the corner of her eye, she monitored the sentient ribbon and the vice-leader, carefully tracking the exchange between the stiff Vie, her companion, and the naively friendly lightchaser. Avery had to admit, despite the unsettling familiarity in her gut, she respected the cold logic of LeQi--- a refreshing contrast to the people-pleasing RuoDie. But in her endless quest to help, the Lightchaser had somehow triggered the ribbon(-cat-person(?)). Though she did her best to hide the hurt flicker in her eyes, RuoDie's sudden exit and uncharacteristically quiet apology betrayed her. How curious. An Ame with a suspicious aversion to needles and mending---there was a story there, no doubt. A weary noblewoman, constantly plotting and eternally on edge. An eager-to-please Vie, who seemed somewhat scared of herself. The vice-captain's Ame bounded out of the carriage, following its master--- only to return seconds later as a sobbing heap on the floor of the already-cramped carriage. Not wanting to deal with the crying child, Adele excused herself and followed after RuoDie. The woman had already regained her composure outside, immedeately involving herself in a conflict between the city police, a man and a woman. “Gentlemen, what seems to be the problem?” Avery had to admit, her commitment to helping everyone and receiving no aid herself was mildly admirable. "Have these civilians done you any injury, sirs?" Avery chimed in, taking a place beside RuoDie. She wasn't a fool--- the brutes of the city's force were known to pick on anyone they deemed remotely suspicious, instead of doing their jobs. [Read more] |

"That name does not belong on your filthy tongue, caitiff. Your words are nothing in comparison to the damage you have wrought." Adele was shocked, to say the least. (an impressive feat— few people were able to make her feel anything) This…buffoon? She acted like uttering a name was some great offense, while a lightchaser quite literally bit her weapon. And the “damage” Seraphina had caused? RuoXi—the name she now knew— was leveling half the city. It was embarrassing, really, that an Ame on a rampage—at the fullest level of their power— was so easily contained by a stray Vie. Avery was beginning to respect LeQi as intelligent, but her possessiveness was clouding her judgement. But she did pose a good question— why did this oddly familiar woman know the name of a noblewoman's Ame? *** Seraphina but her lip. She so carelessly messed up— a random Vie shouldn't know the name of RuoXi. And the daughter of a nobleman shouldn't have forgotten the weakness of an opposing house. No matter who she was, Sera or Maddie, this was a reprehensible mistake for both. She took a deep breath. This didn't have to mean her cover was blown, not if she played her cards right. Suddenly, her heart ached. Cards—- cards and Ace and Maddie and safety. Seraphina shook herself out of the spiral. Such thoughts only led back to that night. “Of course, miss. Might there be a way I could make it up to you? Help heal your Ame?” Sera but her lip as soon as the words left her mouth. There was no way LeQi Liu would let her near RuoXi. This was stupid, anyway. Seraphina hadn't done anything but contain a rouge. RuoXi was the one who caused the harm. Nonetheless, she was trying to calm the situation. “Truly, miss, I'll do anything to make it up to you. I was only trying to protect the city, not harm them. I would hate for us to have to become enemies.” They already were, once before, but she doubted LeQi recognized her. [Read more] |

Gender: female Age: 17 Birthday: May 12 Personality:Mika is bubby, extroverted, and optimistic. She's relatively intelligent, though she won't be winning any awards anytime soon. She thinks with her heart over her head, generous and empathetic to the last. Mika is the type of person to refuse to kill a cockroach, opting to carefully carry it outside. Don't mistake her soft heart for weakness, though, because she'll fight for what she thinks is right. Personality Type: ENFP Description: [x] History: Growing up in a rural village, Mika was always outdoorsy, loving animals but especially horses and barn cats. Ironically, she was a tomboy growing up, with only a few neighbors' sons for company. As she grew, she became more feminine, feeling far more comfortable with things labeled as "girly". Though she was homeschooled through elementary and high school, she moved to a metropolis for university. Her major is undeclared so far, but she plans to study as a veterinarian. Adele sat uncomfortably in the carriage. She was the first to arrive, alongside Seraphina, yet everyone was too busy to notice them. She wondered if she should introduce herself, since she wasn’t actually a lightchaser. She cleared her throat to begin. “Hello,” — several of the members startled at the foreign voice. They really did have the observancy of blind pigeons, didn’t they? — “I’m Adelaine Avery. I assisted in the fight today, and hoped that I could get a position as a lightchaser, since–” Avery gestured vaguely in the direction of RuoXi, “the rampage today has destroyed my living quarters and place of work.” Seraphina startled from her brief nap. “Oh, right, of course— um, everyone, this is Avery, and she assisted me in arriving at the carriage, given my… state,” Sera left out the part about how hurt she felt when the group she was with simply dashed off as she recovered from her paralysis. Lumiere had healed her, but she was still in no state to be leaping from rooftops. “And, uh, I believe she was with RuoDie when RuoXi was trapped in my cage?” She turned to LeQi, holding the Ame—why on earth were they coming back to HQ with the lightchasers? And why did LeQi give her such a bad feeling? — “Apologies if I caused any injury to your Ame.” Adele was relieved that Sera interjected— when interacting with people, she struggled to use Pathos, her inability to show emotion shining through. Adele leaped from rooftop to rooftop, blue hair whipping her face. “... a carriage for your retreat…//// leftmost entrance, grand clocktower…” crackled on Seraphina’s radio. Adele spared not a glance back, her power enough to keep the Lightchaser afloat and trailing behind. Though it would save energy to carry the woman, she hated physical contact. Her hands had the strangest habit of phasing— “Um, Avery, did you hear that? We’re to meet at the spot where the alley intersects the street by the clock tower!” Seraphina called to her escort. “Of course,” Adele replied. Being an Ames, her senses were naturally heightened— a detail the red-haired woman must have forgotten. …It was an odd thing, thought Adelaine, that this Seraphina looked like a perfect opposite of Avery. While Avery was thin and lanky, Sera was short and curvy. Adele’s eyes were the near perfect color of Sera’s hair, and vice versa. It was a nice contrast, perhaps. An interesting coincidence. *** In minutes, the girls had arrived at the carriage—the first people there. Sera was oddly out of breath—she had been more anxious during the journey than she expected. Jumping across rooftops in zero gravity was not something she was used to. Still, she had regained enough strength to lower herself in a seat of the unassuming vehicle—far more spacious than it looked. Sitting across from her recent acquaintance, she took a moment to survey the surroundings outside the window. The city was partially reduced to rubble— though the damage was not as bad as it could have been. partially thanks to me, she flattered herself. Though she wished she could have done more; if she could have just held on— but she had seen that strange, terrifying hallucination. RuoDie had said the woman beside her was Avery, presumably the one that sat in the carriage alongside Sera right now. But that wasn’t what Sera saw— the girl who reached through the cage, promptly disappearing— taunting, terrifying, and forever intangible— looked nearly nothing like the child beside Sera. Though one similarity they shared were those unsettling blood eyes… [Read more] |

Her teammates were all moving on, swift and able-bodied as they were. Though the paralysis was mostly wearing off, Seraphina was still definitely not nimble enough to follow them. She groaned as she rose to her feet, Lumiere’s healing earlier being the only reason she could stand. There was a twinge of annoyance, offense, in her gut at the fact that she had just pretty singlehandedly halted major destruction, but her teammates had just bounded away, leaving her somewhat hopelessly immobile. * Avery had been observing the team’s actions, deducing nothing particularly interesting. Unfortunately, they were moving quickly back to their base, and her clunky drops onto rooftops weren’t suited to covert following. If Adele floated down to street level and attempted to follow from there, she wouldn’t have an easy visual and would be exposed. Quite the conundrum. Though for whatever reason, the vaguely familiar red-haired girl seemed to struggle with keeping pace— the perfect opportunity. Avery had established her allegiance during the fight, and assisting a struggling Lightchaser back to base would be the perfect excuse to follow them and apply for a job. Adele floated over to the rooftop on which the woman stood. “Greetings,” She called, calm and polite, “I’m a friend of the lightchasers. Might you need assistance getting back to your base?” * Seraphina startled at the voice—she hadn’t heard anyone approach. “Oh, yes, I would appreciate that,” she said, turning to the voice. “A friend of the lightchasers, you said? And what might I call you?” Sera asked, surveying the girl up and down. Her golden-blonde hair fell just past her narrow shoulders, framing an intimidating red glare. Despite her youth, the girl was surprisingly tall. “Adelaine, and you?” answered the strangely familiar girl. Seraphina offered a semblance of a friendly smile. “Seraphina, but you can call me Sera. I truly appreciate the help.” She couldn’t hide her shock when she began to float, somehow trailing behind Avery as the girl bounded from rooftop to rooftop. But for Sera, the most curious thing was how in the midday light, Adelaine’s hair seemed to betray flecks of blue. [Read more] |
