Gwen is quick to remember both names. The two don't seem like a threat, but it wouldn't hurt to remember them. She nods to the female guard, who had yet to leave. "Please escort Sylas to one of the private inns. He would likely wish to sleep in a real bed. Keep an eye on the door too" Gwen says the last part quietly as to not be overheard. Even though they weren't an immediate threat, it didn't mean they could lower their guard completely.

"Derek, if you wouldn't mind. I would like to bring you to our Queen and Councilwoman Tani. You must've traveled far to get here. I'm sure they'll wish to speak with you."
...

Sage was already awake, and seemed to have been awake for awhile based on all the completed messages next to her. After helping Maddy, she had only gotten a few hours of sleep before she was wide awake by the reminder of all her duties she had to attend to. She sits in one of her workrooms. Arranging letters from the nearby territories and writing new messages to send to the leader's of those territories. Now, more than ever, was the time to have strong diplomatic relations. Unfortunately, these territories were small compared to Telmar's already tiny kingdom. They would need Telmar's resources far more than Telmar needing theirs. But they couldn't afford to be picky.

She raises her head up upon hearing one of her guards enter. "General Gwen is here with a visitor" the guard informs her. Sage couldn't hide her surprise. Gwen was slacking at her duties now-in-days, thus avoided her as to not be scolded.

"Very well, send them in, and give these to our messengers" Sage replies while passing some documents forward. "I have a feeling things will get very interesting" Sage mutters under her breath.

If Derek dropping his only weapon was surprising enough, him suddenly bowing was even more shocking. Gwen hesitates for a moment, before lowering her hand to her side. She silently listens to him speak and frowns slightly, not recognizing where his accent was coming from. No nearby villages spoke like him. It only made her more interested in these newcomers.

"Your observations are correct, I am a general- general Gwen is my name- and there is no need to bow" Gwen explains. "Who is it you are trying to escort? And what brings you to Telmar?" While Gwen no longer looked physically ready to attack, there was a clear warning within her tone.

The woman narrows her eyes at the two. Once again, she rests her hand on the hilt of her sword, but visibly relaxes once Derek speaks in a more recognizable language. "Well, it's nice to meet the both of-"

"What's this?" A voice shouts from across the field. Nearby were the sounds of training. Multiple people were fighting against eachother with wooden swords. Further away, some people were practicing archery. In the distance, more experienced fighters were trying to knock eachother off horses. But all seemed to stop at the sound of a single voice.

Despite her frequent absence from training and her looking noticably weaker, Gwen was still highly respected within the ranks. She had more experience than anyone, and was still as cunning as she was two years ago. She strode forward, her hand gripped the hilt of her sword as she glanced between Derek, her solider, and the large caravan.

"You!" Gwen practically snarls at Derek. "Who are you? Why have you come here?" She asks threateningly. Her hand never once dropped from the hilt of her sword, in fact, upon getting closer, she seemed far more eager to wield her sword. She carefully strode around the larger man. Normally a visitor wouldn't be a threat, but one look at Derek set off alarm bells. No way a guard of that size is coming here peacefully Gwen thinks to herself.

The woman seemed quite eager to leave her post. She tried, and failed multiple times to hide her delighted smile as she walked alongside the carriage. "Welcome to Telmar!" She chants warmly. It was quite the change compared to earlier, when she looked like she was ready to attack any second.

The woman seemed to talk in rapid session while they walked. She took the time to point out everything they passed by. "...Over there is where some of our best Healers live! If you are feeling sick from your travels Leaf and Blossom will take great care of you!... Over there is the best bar in this kingdom! But don't drink too much, Hyolyn isn't afraid to kick you out if needed. It's best to be on their good side! They have the best gossip! Over there is where poor Luke lives... He lost his eyesight in one battle... Oh! He sometimes makes me think of Barry! He was once an innocent young boy, but now he has a fearsome fighting spirit! ....Thalia lives nearby! She, like Luke, and many people here, has a very rough past. I do pity her. I don't have enough time after my shift to speak with her, she seems pretty quiet and mysterious. I wonder if anyone will get her to open up to them?...Up there, in that big building is our Queen Sage! Sage lives there with Maddy!" The woman pauses by the entrance. She couldn't pass through even if she wanted. The guards guarding the entrance glare at her- she doesn't have clearance to lead them here.

"Let's continue forward. We are nearly there I promised! There are inns close by that you can stay at!" The woman finally pipes down and walks in silence. Although occasionally she shoots Derek a curious look. Her eyes seem to be saying: Why are you here?

A scarred face steadily stares at larger stranger. He says nothing, and seems to be starting into Dereks soul before he turns towards his fellow comrade, who has refused to take her hand off her sword for even a second. The two weren't likely to attack, but they decided to show aggression, as to hopefully deter a possible threat.

The man shoots the girl a look that seems to say: were we expecting vistors? She shrugs and steps closer to the wagon to inspect it. She takes her time, looking inside the wagon and underneath it. She even gently pokes a few bags with the tip of her blade, but finds nothing that would cause any suspicion. "It seems to be all clear" she says while walking back into their field of vision. "They can pass."

"Stay with them, and lead them to Gwen" the man commands. To his credit, he lowers his guard a bit to shoot Derek a friendly smile. "We weren't expecting any strangers to visit, but everyone is welcome in our kingdom. Of course, tensions are a bit high right now, so you must meet with our general before getting settled in. We just want to make sure you aren't one of them."

The sun had begun to rise over the land. The ground was still wet from the rainfall that had occured just hours ago. Slowly, the kingdom was coming to life. Shops were opening, a few early risers were milling about. The patrols were racing around the lands while the rest of the army trained tirelessly.

Just outside of the kingdom, there is a lone figure standing over a grave. Her eyes and cheeks are wet and her limbs look weak. It almost looks like a small gust of wind could easily knock her down. She had visited this grave every day for the past two years. She could walk over here blindfolded if she had to. Her eyes were dazed as she stared down at the gravestone of her former lover. She had plagued her mind with thoughts of him. It had gotten to the point where she felt as if she had driven the sword through his side. She could see it now, stinky and warm droplets of blood hitting her hands. Her sword, driven impossibly deep through flesh and muscle. His eyes meeting her's, wide and questioning. Blood splattering out of his mouth as he dares to take a breath. "Why?" He asks. He falls back and she tries to catch him, to stop him from falling onto the cold ground, as if that would somehow save him. But her hand just passes right through his and he disappears beneath the ground.

Gwen had gone over Dylan's death thousands of times. Each time, she was desperate to find a way to save him. But she could never find a way. It was almost as if his death was nothing but a cruel fate. No, this wasn't fate. If only Gwen had picked up on his plans sooner! That was the way she could've saved him! Gwen's arms begin to shake as she starts to sob at this realization. She leans onto her sword for dear life, before her despair drives her to the ground. She sits on her knees, her head rests on the sword that she had driven into the ground.
"You dumb fool!" Gwen screams. "If only you told me sooner- everything you were planning! Maybe then I, no, we could've done something to save you!" She takes in a shaky breath, painfully gulping down a sob. "Or you could have been a coward and continued to make me hate you so that I would no longer be forced to burden this pain" she whispers. She reaches a hand out and places it onto the gravestone. It felt warm beneath the touch. She doesn't move until she hears footsteps behind her.
"General? Will you be joining us for the morning announcements?" A voice asks.
"No" she responds curtly.
"We understand you are still mourning, but you should be hesitant to defy Sage's orders-"
"Enough!" Gwen roars. She stands up quickly and meets the eyes of a younger boy, her assistant. He takes a fearful step back, unsure of the situation.
"I won't be around forever, somebody has to take my place when I die. You are the one for the job." It was nothing but an excuse, she wasn't fooling anybody. "Consider this to be practice. Did our patrols find any signs of an invasion?" She asks.
"No" the boy responds quietly.
"Then I have nothing to say to the people serving in my army. You can be the one to catch them up. I'll be joining you momentarily." She turns around now to return her gaze to Dylan's grave. "You're dismissed."

With each departing footstep Gwen begins to become less and less agitated. Her body once again becomes more limp. Once again, she crashes back onto the ground, but she has no more tears left to cry. Instead she just stares at the gravestone until she can no longer avoid her duties and is forced to depart.

There is a breif moment of silence between the two. During this silence, Sage debates whenever or not she should press the matter further, and decides against it. She would confront Maddy about this properly once Maddy was in the right state of mind. Now, after she just woke up from a horrible nightmare, was not the correct time.

Sage sighs and gently helps Maddy up. "Let's get you back into bed" she says while lifting Maddy back onto her bed. She silently wheels Maddy's wheelchair close to the bed so that Maddy could lift herself onto it if needed. She frowns while she works, too distracted by her thoughts to say anything else. She snaps out of it upon looking at Maddy a final time.

"I know you don't want to hear me continue to press you about this, but you should really speak with Tani" Sage tells Maddy softly. "Now more than ever, you both need eachother."

A familiar feeling suddenly hit Sage. She shut her eyes and tries to suppress it. But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't fight away the feeling of despair. Misery loves company huh? It was all too familiar. This feeling of helplessness. This feeling of loss. The last time she felt suffering like this was when she was forced to kill Balin.

She has seen much suffering in her life. But it seemed to amplify when the Cloaks appeared. They forced many people to make impossible choices, and ruthlessly slaughtered many. Seeing the outcome of the devastation never failed to hurt her. While Sage remained strong through it all, there were times where her tough demeanor would crack. She may have the blood of an ancient being within her, but she was still human.

Tears slip down Sage's cheek. She stays still for a moment. Both waiting for Maddy to calm down a bit more and to regain her composure. "It's alright" she says out loud to no particular person. "Another bad dream I presume?" She asks Maddy gently. She releases her and turns her head away from Maddy so that she could discreetly wipe away her tears. "It was only a dream, it's not real I promise."

A small part of Sage wants to scold Maddy. Sage knew that Maddy was blaming herself. She saw it with many people close to her. Like Gwen Sage reminded herself bitterly. There was a time to mourn and a time to be tough. Sage expected Gwen to know the difference. Gwen seemed to think that her absence from her army wasn't doing much, but Sage had witnessesed it herself, the army was suffering greatly. Not one person could teach someone to fight as aggressively as Gwen. There was a time and place to scold both girls, but now wasn't it. "What's bothering you dear?" Sage asks instead.

Cunning green eyes stare down at younger brown haired girl. She was terrified, that was obvious on it's own. Her kingdom, while it was slowly repairing itself, had many broken warriors. Some were more damaged then others.

Seeing Maddy like this never failed to hurt Sage, but it wasn't an uncommon sight. Sage had grown use to these panic attacks. Sage releases a breath through her nose and raises her hands up. "Maddy, it's okay sweetie" she says calmly. Slowly, she advances towards the girl, pausing only when Maddy got more nervous. "It was just a dream, everything is okay" she assures softly. "Come on now, deep breath in-... And out."

She had a soft spot for Maddy. Her hardened expression quickly melted away and turned more sympathetic as she drew closer to the girl. Sage never had any kids, but she thought of Maddy as her own. She extends her arms out, both to show surrender and vulnerability, and to offer the terrified girl a hug.

Gwen Fletcher
Show hidden content

Age: 30

Gender: Female

Appearance: She is a girl of somewhat average height (5'5), with soft features on her face. She looks fragile, and certainly doesn't appear to fit the part of a warrior. She has long, curly black hair and dark brown eyes. She is slightly muscular from years of fighting and training. She also has a scar on her cheek that was given to her by Winters from the last battle

Weapons: A bow and a quick sword- while her quick sword may not do as much damage as other swords, it allows her to strike fast- hense- quick sword. The small and thin blade can easily tear through flesh and can block an attack from a heavier sword- although that takes lots of training and requires lots of strength to do. In the hands of a novice, a quick sword wouldn't do much, but it's deadly in Gwen's hands.

Other: She is the fierce and quick witted general of the Telmarian army. Once a trusted advisor of a corrupted king, she rose through the ranks during the downfall of both kingdoms and came out on top. Her bravery and loyalty to the kingdom makes her an honorable and feared general. But since the passing of her lover, she finds that she has suddenly lost her spark.

Age: 87... 37 now

Gender: Female

Appearance: A short old woman, standing at about (5'2) when she isn't wearing boots. She has long pale hair that is styled as a pixie cut. She has enchanting green eyes with equally enchanting earrings to match. As a queen should, she wears expensive gowns-but it's mainly for appearances. Her love for her kingdom and all people are obvious. She managed to single handedly unit the people and move past multiple battles on their home turf. Her obvious strength is apparent, she has tough features and always stands tall. She is a wise and respected leader.

Weapons: A wooden spear that is stained red by the blood of an ancient being- no matter how hard she tries, she cannot remove the red coloring. She also carries a hatchet for long distance fighting.

Other: Many years ago in Gecko's and I's worst version of this RP, she killed Balin, an ancient Thunder Bird god who recognized her strength and wanted to ensure that she was alive to save the kingdom. He allowed her to kill him, which allowed her to return to a more youthful state. His blood now runs through her veins.
In case it's not obvious. Sage is the queen of Telmar

Age: 35

Gender: Female

Appearance: She is very tall and very muscular for a woman. She stands at a proud (5'10). She has long, wavy blonde hair that is usually tied back so that it won't get in the way during a potential fight. It also shows off a mean burn on the left side of her face. Her eyes are dark blue, not that many people know of her eye color because she is usually frowning. She looks very mean... And okay, she can be mean. But she means (wow saying that a lot) well- she is tough for her kingdom, and she expects her army to be equally tough and as brave as her. The army is the backbone of the kingdom afterall. She is fiercely loyal to her army and to the cause- bring down the Cloaks!

Weapons: She carries a mean looking dagger that has multiple teeth within the blade and a large great sword that almost looks too big for her to properly use and carry. Her great sword is lethal. Slower than a quick sword, it heavily relies on gravity to do damage/have speed behind the attack. A proper warrior has to be incredibly strong to use this sword, and it takes years of training to be good at it.

Other: She is the tough Kestrian general, a path that was set up for her since she was young. Today, not a single person would argue that she is an unfit general.

Both of their answers were shocking. Maverick lowers his head lower, desperate to hide his pained expression. You guys don't deserve this. He was cut out his trance when Bertholdt asked him a question. He visibly winces and turns his back to them. He decides to ignore the question for now. The memory was too much to bear.

"So... We need to search around for a school, and whatever pulls at your memory." He informs the two. "It should be easy enough" he adds confidently. He takes a step forward, then suddenly stops. What was that? He narrows his eyes, catching movement through some brush. Is someone eavesdropping? Maverick steps closer to the person, suddenly curious on who this person was, and why they intended to remain hidden. "You know, it's not nice to listen in on people's conversations" he scolds. "Who are you?"

"You? Scare me? Nahh, I was just-... singing, yeah! And dancing!" Maverick lies. "It's nice to meet you, I'm Maverick, and this is Bertholdt" Maverick greets while nodding his head towards Bertholdt's direction.

Lucius's question made Maverick feel sick. The sudden reminder that this world would be their eternal home was... Overwhelming to say the least. He doesn't show his sudden unease though. His grin doesn't falter for a even a second while he answers Lucius's question.

"Yup!" He says cheerfully while leaning against a nearby tree. "It ain't all that bad once you get use to it" he lies. He chuckles to himself and looks between Lucius and Bertholdt, "you two will be fine. I'll take it upon myself to get you two settled in!" While standing still, he had began to sink down, the earth had nearly swallowed him down to his ankles. But the experienced boy doesn't show even a flicker of panic. It would take awhile to sink down far enough to where escape was impossible. He had time to rest.

"Now, it's my turn to ask you two a question." His voice suddenly became deadly serious. He lowers his head, not wanting to see their reactions to this upcoming question. Talk about death was a sore topic for anyone. But it was necessary to establish and find your dead spots as soon as possible. "How and where did you guys die?" He asks softly.

A high pitched shriek sounds from Maverick when Lucius peers out from behind a tree. Without realizing it, he had jumped backwards and tried his best to hide behind Bertholdt. He stays there for a second, before flushing and clearing his throat. He steps around Bertholdt and faces Lucius with as much confidence as he could muster.

"I didn't expect you to do that" he replies. "Did you also just wake up?" Maverick asks while turning his head. That's odd, I don't think it's normal for this many people to become conscious at once. "Well, in this world of Everlost the ground isn't exactly solid. If you stay still for too long you could sink down- like if you were standing in quick sand." Maverick explains. "Don't worry! It's very uncommon to sink down! I've only known one person who sunk down in all my time of being here!" Maverick adds with a wild grin.

Maverick rolls his eyes and shakes his head at the question. "I found some people, but they don't care to stick around. Something about my lifestyle being 'too dangerous'... or something like that" he grumbles. "I honestly don't get what they are talking about" he adds honestly- as if he haven't just jumped off a rooftop just a few minutes ago.

He jumps slightly when he hears a frightened yelp and turns his head towards the sound. There were too many trees in the way, so he couldn't clearly see who it came from. "Hm, shall we investigate the source of that sound?" Maverick asks. "I doubt they are in danger. Everlost is completely safe... Unless you stand still in one place for too long" he adds ominously.

Maverick simply blinks at the question. For all he knew it could've been a few minutes, or even a few years. Maverick didn't understand how it worked, but time seemed to stop here. The world as they knew it continued onward, while they remained in a standstill. Maverick could only judge time based upon his intuition and well, his wasn't very great. "About a year?" Maverick guesses while shrugging. "It ain't all that bad. There's plenty of company... If you know where to find it" Maverick says while squinting and looking around, as if he were searching for hidden souls. "It can get pretty boring, but hey, this is life now. So you'd better get use to it!" He says with a smirk.

A pitied look crosses over Maverick's face as he watches Bertholdt's expression. Just as Maverick expected- the news about where he was and why he was here would leave him confused, and likely in disbelief. It was completely understandable. Here, in Everlost, you certainly felt alive. To all the new souls, the idea of death seemed impossible. It would take time to realize the truth.

Maverick is smart enough to not push the matter any further. Overwhelming the boy wouldn't do any good. "My name?" Maverick asks. He grins a toothy smile and places a fist proudly onto his chest. "My name is Maverick the great!" He boasts. "But you can call me Maverick." He cocks his head slightly and stares down at Bertholdt. "And what's your name?" He questions.

Similar excitement bubbles up from within Maverick when he realizes that he hadn't scared the boy. Best of all, the boy was actually interested in responding to him! Okay, okay, don't mess this up now! He had asked a question, and Maverick was busy staring at him with a Cheshire cat grin on his face.

"This place? I'm not too sure what it is myself" Maverick responds while pacing around back and forth. "I've pieced together that we are in a world commonly known as Everlost. You can think about this place as the 'in-between.' We're in the real world... But we also aren't... We're in some form of an afterlife... But we also aren't." Maverick suddenly stops pacing and turns his body to face Bertholdt. "I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news. But, it would appear that something horrible has happened to you. Hense why you're here." To his credit, Maverick manages to say the last part gently. "I'm sorry" he adds earnestly.

"Well, well, well, what do we have here?" Maverick murmurers as he stumbles across a new soul. The poor soul was small, and young. For a split second, Maverick feels pity towards the boy. He, like the others, were taken far too young. He shouldn't be in a place like this. He should be alive and happy!

But that feeling goes away quickly. "Alright, just like you practiced" Maverick tells himself while advancing towards Bertholdt. He spreads his arms out wide and forces a smile onto his face. Just smile! They won't be afraid if you seem friendly! The grin is forced, almost making look like a crazed maniac. It certainly didn't help that he was appearing almost out of thin air towards the most likely distraught boy.

Every soul reacts differently towards being here. Most were confused, some were sad, a few, angry. Others... Well, it was rare, but they were happy. Regardless, Maverick is cautious and he keeps his distance. There was no telling how this boy would react. "Hello!" Maverick calls out. "Welcome to Everlost! My name is Maverick and-!" Shoot, he had this scripted out. What was he supposed to say next? He pats his pants, trying to feel for his notes. Dang! I'm screwing this up already! I'll just wing it! "What brings you here?" He asks, then cringes. Perfect! That's exactly what you want to say to a new soul. Good thinking Maverick!
