Trans people exist not because of genetics, but because of society itself. Specifically western society, which developed such strict gender roles that eventually became part of so many other societies and overpowered existing cultural traditions and gender roles, is the reason trans people exist. Technically society and humans developing sentience and self awareness is what led to trans people, but more specifically it's the western world that developed bigotry and again, strict gender norms. Gender is quite literally made up, humans said "ah yes let's make this up" and now it definitely exists and has meaning, but like things like language and money, it doesn't exist in nature. You can support and be concerned about trans people and their rights while also being concerned about the fact that our planet is dying, etc etc.

Yup. And yet those same people who use sports and alleged advantages as an excuse to be transphobic say nothing about athletes like Michael Phelps, who literally had the perfect build to dominate in swimming, and used his MULTIPLE genetic and physical abilities to win in the Olympics, and yet people say nothing about that.

From my perspective, even if historically it was A for ally, nowadays I would say it definitely doesn't. It's way more normalized (at least in places I live and have friends in and have traveled to) for allies to attend pride and other celebrations. People try to claim A is now for ally as a means to erase sexualities, genders, etc that still aren't as accepted. I'm specifically talking about asexual, aromantic, agender, androgyny, etc. Obviously not everyone is claiming A is ally with intent to erase or harm, but there are a LOT of people who do, or insist that it is just so they can feel like they're part of a community or get some imagined special treatment that they percieve us queer people to have. It's very similar in my mind to the straight people (who are not queer in other ways) trying to come up with a flag and declare "straight pride". (Again, not saying all straight non queer people, I'm specifically talking about those who subscribe to that whole... thing)

Pronouns: they/them
How long have you been playing PokeHeroes?: literally a day
Do you understand and commit to following the rules?: of course!
What is your favorite colorguard/winterguard show? Share a link if you'd like!: Probably Blessed Sacrement Winterguard World Class 2024 (Chaos Theory) or Fusion Winterguard World Class 2024 (The Beat). Definitely have more, those are just the ones I can think of right now.
Are you currently spinning or teaching?: Yes! I currently spin with a competitive guard and teach with a noncompetitive winterguard and competitive colorguard (marching band).
What is your favorite part of guard? (Equipment? Dance? Performing? Shows? Learning? etc): Depends! While at the younger/lower classes, I love blade. While at the A class level, rifle. At the Open class level, flag. And while teaching? All three!
OPTIONAL: What teams have you spun with? Have you won or placed high before?: I have spun with a middle/high school marching band that was competitive, and a different winterguard organization. I spun 2 years in the RA class, 5 years in the A class, and 1 year in the Open class, with a 1 year gap between A and Open. I am a two-time world finalist at WGI, and am actively competing in the 2025 WGI season.

Welcome to the Colorguard/Winterguard Club! This is a space for anyone and everyone to talk about, learn about, and share stuff about the sport of the arts! This is for the marching band/winterguard/athletic version of colorguard, not the military version.

What is Colorguard/Winterguard?
-Colorguard is the sport of the arts, in which members use a combination of movement (dance, tumbling, interpretive movement, etc) and equipment (flags, sabres, fake rifles, occasionally baton) to perform a themed show, often telling a story. Teams are part of marching bands and drum corps, or are solo teams.
-Winterguard is the indoor version of colorguard. This is done without a band or corp, meaning it is just the guard on the floor. Instead of spinning in a parade or on a field, members spin on a tarp, known as a floor, to music played through speakers, usually in a gymnasium or field house.

Why have a club?
-Colorguard/winterguard is an incredibly special activity that has been steadily growing in popularity and recognition in the past few years. It is literally known as "the Sport of the Arts", as it combines athletics with the performing arts. Anyone of any age can participate, from literal toddlers waving around tiny fake flags barely larger than a ruler to the elderly performing in local circuits. The sports is easily adaptable, allowing anyone to participate. Adaptive guards allow disabled members to perform, and teams often adapt or modify work or shows to allow those with injuries, disabilities, or other similar things to perform just like everyone else. Having a fanclub allows those of us who are fans to get together and chat, and maybe introduce guard to new people!

RULES:
1. Respect others. No hate. No bigotry. No racism. ETC. Zero tolerance.
2. No mini-modding. (Basically exactly what it says in the guide to making a club).
3. Follow the PH rules.
4. No shaming or putting down guards, individuals, shows, etc.
5. Be mindful of those who are not comfortable sharing personal details. (If someone says "no" to sharing what guards they've marched/are marching with, respect that!)
6. No doxxing! If you find someone or figure out what group they spun/spin with, do not expose that!
7. No fear! This is a group meant to be built on respect, not one run by fear. You should be free to ask questions or share an opinion.
8. Have fun!

NEW MEMBER QUESTIONS:
1. Username:
2. Nickname:
3. Pronouns:
4. How long have you been playing PokeHeroes?:
5. Do you understand and commit to following the rules?
6. What is your favorite colorguard/winterguard show? Share a link if you'd like!
7. Are you currently spinning or teaching?
8. What is your favorite part of guard? (Equipment? Dance? Performing? Shows? Learning? etc)
9. OPTIONAL: What teams have you spun with? Have you won or placed high before?

DISCLAIMER:
-Internet safety is important!!! Please be mindful of sharing personal information! Things like your real name, your age, where you are going/went to school, location-based teams you are/were part of, etc. are PRIVATE. If you are a minor, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND you do NOT share this information! If you are an adult (18+) that is up to your personal discretion, however I still recommend being mindful! Please be careful out there! You NEVER know who you are speaking to or interacting with (obviously unless you literally know them in person prior to playing or making an account). I do NOT condone minors sharing personal information!
-If you would like to share but are being cautious, vague statements are okay! Ex: "I am currently spinning in X class in WGI" instead of "I am on Team X in X Class". "I performed at X class world finals in the past few years" instead of "My team got X place at WGI X class finals in year xxxx".

EVENTS:
-If people actually join this club, I plan on posting links to streams for WGI finals in April!

p.s. I have no idea how to use BB-codes or photos or banners. That's a future thing. Sorry!

My family was Christian in the sense that we only really went to church when I was little for my grandparents. Honestly? Sitting down with them and explaining how you feel is a good way to do it (but again do what you're comfy with). I will say that while yes, there's a known connection between very religious individuals and not accepting queer people, it's not everyone by far. Just because that happens to other people doesn't mean it'll happen to you. Just explaining everything could be a good way to do it. I'm again not religious and my family basically only went for my grandparents to make them happy, but I think that will be better than hints and subtle cues. BUT! Do what is safe for YOU. If you feel like it will cause you to not be safe, then don't do it. I would sit and think about what you're comfortable with.
