He picks himself up to look at whoever had just knocked him over like a bowling pin, and sees a short girl. "Watch where you're going!" he says crossly, before he realizes that she just joined them, which means that the PokeBall and PokeDex in his hands is for her. -- Evelyn grabs Sheryl and her PokeDex as Professor Rowan shoos them out of his lab, squawking in surprise when another person, a small girl, knocks over Sour Boy, privately thankful she herself hadn't been knocked over. The Budew makes a confused noise as Evelyn thinks on a good name. "Sheryl?" she says after a long moment of thinking. When the Budew doesn't make a noise of protest, Evelyn smiles. "I'll call you Sheryl then." -- Sorrel privately groans when he finds that the haughty Absol (still napping on the floor) turns out to be his partner. He eyes her warily, holding the PokeBall in his hand gingerly. She doesn't seem to want to approach him, and that's totally fine with Sorrel. He'll be fine if she stays far, far away from him. Of course, Sorrel doesn't believe in the stupid myths about Absols being bringers of disaster, but he's never been great with vicious Pokemon. And, Sorrel thinks as he studies the Absol from the doorway, that Absol is absol-utely vicious. Ha ha. Very funny, Sorrel. He just slips the PokeBall into his pocket, wondering if she's going to just up and abandon him like everyone else does, halfway through a fight. Well, maybe not a fight. -- Sorrel stops as soon as he's inside, the door still open. He looks around, internally impressed by the state of the art technology and all the different kinds of Pokemon available. He recognizes all of them, mostly because he's always been a voracious reader, but he's never actually seen most of them in person. His parents, both retired ace trainers, have several powerful Pokemon, but he's never actually interacted them outside of occasionally feeding them, too intimidated to actually do more than that. The Pokemon here aren't nearly as terrifying, all much too low leveled to do much harm at all. The Absol napping on the floor might leave some deep claw marks, but nothing in comparison to what his stepfather's Flygon might do with a simple flap of her wings. Nevertheless, he knows better than to underestimate the power these guys have. They might not even reach level 10, but they're definitely dangerous, and probably more powerful than him. Well, maybe not the Budew, he amends, casting a look at the harmless bud Pokemon tottering at the girl's, Evelyn, feet. [Read more] |

[MAL WHY] Evelyn beams at the two, privately pleased she'd gotten it right. "Nice to meet you, Adrian, Phoebe! I'm Evelyn!" Before she can say anything else, she jumps when the door opens. Once she realizes who it is, she gasps excitedly. She'd never been allowed to have a Pokemon before, and she's only ever been surrounded by water and grass types due to her sickly disposition. -- Sorrel sighs deeply with relief as the door swings open, standing up and brushing off the grass from his pant legs and ignoring the green stains. Evelyn shrugs. "Maybe he's waiting inside for us to knock," she suggests as more people come up. There's a pair, a boy and a girl, walking over together with an Eevee hopping with them. Siblings, maybe? And there's another boy, approaching the Green Tea Girl. "Hey!" she calls to the (maybe) siblings, waving them over. "Are you with us?" -- Sorrel quietly resists the urge to crawl into a ball and die as he hears more people arrive. When he agreed to this stupid journey, it was to get away from his parents and people in general, not to join them. He draws his knees to his chest and rocks slightly, staring at the distant horizon in hopes that Professor Rowan shows up before someone tries to (he shudders at the thought) socialize with him. Evelyn gives a bright grin to the other girl and the two who'd come up, Poffin Girl and the Green Tea girl. -- Sorrel elects to ignore the conversation, dropping onto his butt into the grass instead, but he keeps an ear out for the speaking despite the fact that the grass he's playing with is more interesting than the conversation. Not that he has anything against girls, but he hopes the trip isn't going to be only girls. -- Evelyn waves cheerfully at the three people at the entrance of Professor Rowan's lab, two girls and a boy. Up close, she can see that the boy has a sour face like he's permanently a mix of bored and annoyed. Of course, you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, so she resolves to never mention it unless he turns out to be the same inside as on the outside. He blinks when he hears footsteps approaching, eyes sliding over to the newcomer briefly but not giving any indication that he knows she's there, head still mostly bent over the frankly uninteresting grass. Sorrel's gaze drops back to the grass tickling his feet and wonders if there's any Pokemon in it. Probably not; it isn't tall enough. -- Evelyn huffs as she exits her house to head to Professor Rowan's lab, slightly annoyed. She loves her parents dearly, but it's but a five minute walk to the lab! She'll be fine! Besides, she's going to be heading out on a long journey; if she can't handle even this little bit, she'd be screwed. She practically skips towards the lab, seeing it in the distance. Age: 14 Appearance: sorrel has spiky bright red hair that never stays flat with two strands that constantly fall into his face. despite the way it turns up, it's actually fairly soft, so no, he doesn't use hair gel, please stop asking. his hair is lightly tanned, and though his face doesn't have any freckles, his arms are covered in them. he's pretty short for a fourteen year old, (5'2") but he has high hopes that puberty will give him a few inches. his eyes are golden brown, though in certain lighting it looks gold or yellow. Personality: In short: Sorrel is lazy, unmotivated, bitter, too smart for his own good, scathing, and has a morbid sense of humor. The longer version is pretty much that he’s lazy because he’s unmotivated; he has no reason to do anything anymore. He decided to go on this journey mostly because he wanted something to do. His sense of humor is pretty callous and he can come off as insensitive; although it seems like he might not care if his words affect others, he has a horrid guilt complex and if someone shows signs of being affected negatively by his words he doesn’t apologize, but he does stew in guilt for a while and try to make it up to them. Sorrel’s also a genius, but he and everyone around him all agree it’s wasted talent on him, since he doesn’t have the motivation to do anything. Nothing really seems to affect him, but it’s mostly just him acting aloof because it’s how he learned to survive. Whenever he feels like someone’s trying to insult him, he bites back extremely harshly, though it’s a bit difficult to figure that out since most of what comes out of his mouth is an insult anyways. Sorrel, despite getting defensive over certain things, never really denies anything anybody has to say about him, since he figures if they see it, it’s gotta be at least a little true. He doesn’t actually like humans very much, and they don’t like him in return, but Sorrel loves Pokemon, and Pokemon tend to like him in return. Since they don’t talk, and they can’t understand a word of what Sorrel says, he has infinite patience for them. Sorrel is actually lowkey (read: highkey) terrified of children despite them seeming to love him. He’s too scared of accidentally saying something wrong or hurting them, so he tends to avoid kids, though he’ll never say no to one. Because he's weak. Starter: does absol work or nah Team: will be updated but i hope for a buizel at some point lmao Summon Item: shaymin Crush/BF/GF: noop. Other: i think you either spelled bridge wrong or someone's wedding is getting trashed in your rules Age: 14 Appearance: evelyn has long white hair, so long that it reaches her ankles, and skin so pale it's probably a little concerning which is from being kept inside so often due to her not being that healthy. this is also why her growth's a bit stunted, leaving her at 5'3". her eyes are purple. Personality: evelyn is a sweet girl, cheerful and energetic, but a little airheaded at times. she's impulsive and rushes into things, which is really something that her parents find endlessly endearing and sometimes irritating due to her bad health, which has led to a lot of scares in the past. she can be forgetful at times, but never on purpose. despite this, she's actually fairly perceptive when it comes to people, and is freakily good at reading people. she tries her best to lighten the mood whenever possible, and (often to the detriment of her own health) downplays her own issues to avoid bringing it down. there's no shame in looking up references! i don't do it (shame on me) mostly because of how OFTEN i draw humans, so i mostly have anatomy down pat. except hands and feet. those. i have much issue with. but yeah, if you're just getting started with humans, references will be your best friend. anyways, like i said, i draw humans a lot, so if you have any questions about specific parts of drawing humans i'm 100% willing to help you out there. a drawing tip in general, but this helps out the MOST with human faces, use the horizontal flip tool. i know how horrifying it may be for you to flip a piece you're proud of, only to see that it's fugly af, but seriously, flip your drawing. it'll provide a new perspective for you and you'll be able to find more mistakes that way. i say it helps with humans the most because you and i are both humans, and we EASILY pinpoint when something is off about a human face. if something is just slightly too big or small, we get a feeling of uneasiness. another drawing tip in general: keep at it. like toma said, it's not going to happen overnight. you'll need tons and tons of practice. i've been drawing for 12 years, man. keep drawing humans in different poses. use other people's art styles to see how you want to draw something. if it doesn't look great, just look at your old art and see how far you've come. good luck!
