this whole form is kinda based off of the idea that lysander would be
a black sun defect in hiding. if that doesn't work, i can always rework him.
please note that this version of him may contain sensitive content.
thanks!

Sequel to Black Widow
Keeping his wings tightly tucked and arms crossed, Lysander trudged behind Cado at a much slower pace than normal. During the quiet walk into the woods, he became aware that the woods were far, far too quiet. Even the birds were forebodingly silent. Dark branches crisscrossed overhead, leaving much of their surroundings draped in darkness. Had it not been for Cado's flashlight illuminating their path, the eerie woodland would've been impossible to traverse. With the events of his captivity with the Grysk too fresh in his mind, Lysander kept his distance from the older vampire as much as possible. With Cado's sadism becoming more unpredictable, the avian didn't need nor want to be joined at the hip with him.

His throat, however, disagreed: burning with an aching throb from a lack of blood. Of course, there were other symptoms contributing to the avian's general weariness; fatigue and irritability from lack of food and water, as well as lightheadedness from the transformation. He estimated that it would be a while before he became fully accustomed to vampirism.

Up ahead, the light became increasingly faint and Lysander could hear Cado calling back for him. Startled, Lysander tripped on a tree-root and nearly fell on his face. Head spinning profusely, he took a moment to stop. Not wanting to pique the interest of his captor, the avian picked up the pace, coming within view of the bobbing light only a few steps behind Cado. The avian's gaze was appraising but neutral in comparison to the playfulness of the older vampire. "So, we gonna be there soon or are we just getting lost?"

Nearly tugged off his feet as the Sith pulled him closer, Lysander gritted his teeth to muffle a frustrated shriek. His claws drew in scarlet patterns as the avian slashed at Cado’s arms. His feet scrambled to whatever he could grab on to, a piece of the chair, the floor, anything. The sith was laughing hysterically again, a low, cruel sound that mocked his efforts. His eyes widened in surprise when cold hands locked around his wrists, none too gently pulling them away from Cado’s throat and pinning them against his sides. It was an unusual tactic, meant to prevent combat and movement. But where was the Sith going with this? Had the Grysk’s drug not been in effect, Lysander would’ve slammed Cado into the wall. His gut tightened in anger as he stared at the Sith’s arrogant golden orbs. Cowards. “Hit me back, why don’t you? You wanted to fight, right, so why are y-”

Abruptly, his focus was drawn away from the Grysk when Cado all but shouldered him against the chair, not even bothering to restrain him this time. By now, the avian was actually beginning to get a bit worried, as it seemed that the sith’s intentions were much more sinister than they first appeared. Cado’s hands slid through Lysander’s hair, eliciting another angry snarl at the tingling sensation. Tingling turned to sparks of pain when the sith yanked his head back, forcing the avian to stare directly at the fluorescent lights at the top of the cell with his neck at an uncomfortable angle. Eye burning, Lysander was not even aware of the fact that he couldn’t see the sith anymore. Cado's breathing was hot on his neck, and the avian's skin crawled when he realized just how close the sith really was. Then twin starbursts of agony bloomed as silver fangs dug in with surgical precision.

Spasms and shivers of pain wracked Lysander’s body when Cado bit him. It was as if two needles were embedded deep in his skin, sending rivers of fire from the spot of the bite flowing to his brain, and down his spine. The pain reduced his struggling into desperate thrashing, black wings flapping upwards helplessly. Unfortunately, despite their size, his wings didn’t give him much of an advantage. Up until this point, Lysander had no idea that Cado was vampiric, much less that vampires even existed. Maybe I’m hallucinating. But the pain felt far too real for something chemically induced. Even gritting his teeth and digging his talons into his palms didn’t help.

Just as Lysander thought that he was going to snap, Cado released him. Bloody fangs tore the avian’s skin before retracting. Suddenly acutely dizzy with nothing to hold him up, Lysander’s body fell forward and collapsed to the floor. The avian yelped in pain as his head cracked against the cell floor. Above him, Cado was cackling with unforeseen mania, laughing with triumph, laughing with twisted humor, laughing to wound. Blood still glistened on his fangs. The sound bounced around the cell; listening to it was like driving nails into the avian’s head. All of a sudden, realization hit. If Cado was vampiric, then it was more than likely that the Sith’s bite was not merely meant to draw blood, but also to turn him. Revulsion hit him like a truck, and with his head still spinning, the avian could only draw his attention inwards, taking shallow breaths.

...Oh that was fun...you lost.

A hoarse "Fuck you." was all he had to offer in return.

Narrowed eyes followed Cado's smooth movements around the cell. The Sith conducted himself like a serpent, sinful and sly. The avian had to admit that it was a far cry from his own stiffer conduct. Lysander had always been a bit straight-backed, even among the other acolytes. Many years of constant scrutiny and paranoia kept him guessing until hiding away in a shell was the only option. Cado knew nothing of what it was like. The avian rolled his eyes when Cado mocked him for his cold nature. Prickly. He deserved it. "Prick. It's not my job to cater to you." He uttered coolly, golden eye glittering as it followed Cado's movements. The avian tried not to wince whenever Cado stepped out of view. Getting used to having one eye was still a work in progress. "Never was. You want to blame someone for being selfish, look at yourself. You can't even look after your own damn brother. Who else do you plan on just using and throwing aside?"

If the avian was aware of Cado's softer, crooning undertones, he didn't show it.

He was vaguely aware of the restraints being removed or of Cado's preening taunts; all his attention was captivated by the Sith literally lunging at him. Fortunately for the avian, the moment that Cado's hands connected with his wings, all of his anger and resentment came boiling to the surface. Letting the Sith grab on, distracted perhaps, Lysander did something he'd been wanting to do since he met Cado in the tombs.

Fast as as viper, his hands wrapped like thorns around the Sith's throat, and squeezed tight. Granted, with Cado's grip on his wings, the avian couldn't exactly move forward by much, but unlike a human, he had six limbs, not four. If the sith thought his captive was helpless, then he was in for a nasty surprise. He sent a hard knee into Cado's gut, aiming to break the Sith's grip on his wings in order to gain further mobility.

Lysander couldn’t help pressing back in discomfort when Cado reached up to stroke his hair again, smearing blood on his forehead. A harsh scowl pressed his lips downwards when his captor’s touch lingered. It was a feeling that made his skin crawl. Truthfully speaking, it wasn’t like he detested means of physical affection. Lysander was certainly okay with stretching boundaries with people he knew well. But the proximity Cado was in to stroke his hair made the avian too vulnerable for comfort. The Sith’s twisted smile was haunting; the same exact look before he took Lysander’s life. But the avian wasn’t going to gain anything from backing down, especially when Cado was so close. “That’s enough. I don’t kriffin’ care if you brought me back from the dead. Do not touch me.” Lysander growled, his voice darkening. His left eye narrowed into dangerous slits in contrast to Cado’s manic blue ones. “Back up, now, unless you want me to rip your hand open.” Because he would. At least, at this range, Lysander could certainly give Cado more than a mere cut.

‘Be certainly something if Cado had to get stitches for an injury.’ Briefly, the avian fantasized a scenario involving him backing up his words. Fantasized him leaping forward, claws digging in deep to the veins beneath, seeing Cado scared for once. All the anger and helplessness transformed into fiery wrath. Maybe Cado would be angry, or delighted, who knows. The sith was clearly both arrogant and a sadist. Lysander acknowledged these were beneficial traits for a Sith, so he really didn’t begrudge Cado these traits. The sith wasn’t any less of a horrible person either way.

Cado did withdraw, a reluctant step putting him just outside of Lysander’s reach. Unfortunately, it didn’t reduce the intensity with which his gaze bored into the avian. From this angle, Cado looked not just creepy, but ravenous. He looked like he wanted to eat the avian alive, the thought of which made Lysander’s gut curl uncomfortably. At the Sith’s next words, the avian scoffed incredulously. “You want me to thank you for reviving me? Are you serious? You deserve nothing of the sort.”

Lysander could see the door just behind his captor, trying to ignore Cado’s taunting. It would be barely a few paces behind him. “On another note; I can see that you’re bored, and well, that’s on you for choosing to interrogate me. I’m not an entertaining person, and you’re an idiot. But if I were to beat you up, I’d say its fair that I get to leave right?"

[ name ] Rowan Crane
[ gender ] Male
[ age ] Twenty-six

[ appearance ] Rowan is a tall person, standing at nearly 5'7 or 5'8 with fair skin. Despite being gifted, his humanoid appearance is completely normal, which makes hiding his special traits a whole lot easier. His pale face is framed by short light brown hair, neatly groomed, that drops to his chin. He tends to wear more open though formal wear in public. His eyes are a striking shade of vivid cognac, and seem to focus on the horizon at all times. He has the tattoo of a spotted owl on his left bicep.

[ personality ] Rowan is a steely person, possessing a rather calm and dignified demeanor. He likes to think a few steps ahead of what he is doing at the most part, and for the most part, takes things with a 'long-game' attitude. He's considered to be quite stern, and unsurprisingly, he takes everything in life seriously. A taciturn person by nature who people usually spot working dedicatedly in the background. Despite being so grim, however, he is by no means mean-spirited. As long as you don't say anything too ridiculous or out of place, he's more than willing to explain difficult concepts to you, or simply give you the time of day if you want conversation. Rowan tends to push his emotions and personal desires out of the way whenever he is working, which makes him seem almost robotic in attitude. Additionally, he has a stubborn streak; he wants to do things by the book, to a fault. Outside of his work, however, Rowan is much more approachable. He has many brotherly instincts, and is an adventurer at heart. He enjoys finding refuge within nature, oftentimes within his owl form so he can avoid being badgered or looked at with suspicion. Rowan is an intense peruser of good literature, oftentimes carrying at least two to three fiction books with him at all times. Furthermore, in contrast to his grim and composed demeanor, if he finds out that his favorite author is about to release a new book, he can become absolutely giddy with excitement. Patient at heart, it can take a lot to make the male mad, and even more to get him to actually start shouting. He can give the cold shoulder to people he doesn't like, and unfortunately, he tends to hold a grudge for a long time. Don't try to apologize to him; he will judge you based more on actions than words. Rowan has a strong moral compass, and even though he holds people at arms length, the male tends to give people the benefit of the doubt the first time around.

Beneath his strong facade, however, Rowan is stricken with worry. His sister, Caroline, disappeared a year ago after getting on the bus to go to the tennis center where she coaches. No one has seen her since, and he consistently fears the worst. That she may not return at all. That she is probably dead. He has become a leading voice in the searches for the missing gifted, while at the same time trying to keep his own gift a secret.

[ gift ] [ Strigiform Tytonidae Physiology ]
The first in his line to have this particular gift, though something very similar is shared by his sister, Caroline. It developed several years into his life, first manifesting at the age of five. Not only is Rowan able to transform into an owl — in this case, a spotted owl — he also has many owl-like adaptations. In most cases, Rowan does not like to be seen shifting in public, so he tends to sleep an entire day away in owl form or go without shifting for an entire day. Rowan can summon sharp claws that extend from his hands and besides using them for climbing, he can also use them for self defense. His hearing is far stronger than any normal human; he can even hear mice from several feet away. This does mean however, that he usually wears ear protection, since loud noises can prove to be very unpleasant at best and agonizing at worst. Rowan can also make himself inaudible, that is, completely unable to be heard by others. This can be used in hunting, and if he wants to remain hidden. His final trait is night vision; the ability to see in low to almost no light. He just needs the faintest speck of light to make the darkness seem like a sunny day. However, his eyes soon become sensitive to bright flashes of light, which cause her eyes significant amounts of pain. When transitioning, he wears a pair of color-transitioning glasses, which help her eyes transition safely. Oh, and there isn't any guarantee he can shift either way fluently. He has natural predatory instincts, but for the most part, he keeps them in check when in his human form.

[ history ] Rowan's gifted abilities did not manifest themselves at birth like most, but rather his sister Caroline and him began to show his first signs when he was six years old. He began to have trouble falling asleep during the nighttime, if he slept at all, and during the daytime he became so tired that it was hard to open his eyes. At first, he was prescribed melatonin for this, which helped for a period of time. But as the weeks and months passed, this grew steadily worse. His parents, loving and considerate as they were, had no idea what to do for their child, especially since Caroline seemed to be perfectly diurnal unlike her brother. Rowan was constantly exhausted in class, barely staying awake to hear what the teacher had to say, and his grades suffered as a result. Nothing the parents did seemed to be working, and the entire family was worried sick, Caroline especially. Eventually, Rowan switched over to online school, where he could take the night classes. There, he was able to get the same education on a schedule that worked better for him. Be this as it may, it was in high school - twelfth grade - that Rowan's family got the real wake up call as to what had happened to their son. While attending a party with his friends, Rowan's hearing and light sensitivity began to act up, and before he knew it, he'd passed out on the floor barely ten minutes in. Not only that, but when he was taken back home by his parents, they were utterly alarmed to find - instead of him - a spotted owl laying in the backseat, panting weakly. He must have shifted, overwhelmed by the sudden onset of his gifts. He was bedridden for six days straight, while his mother contacted a family friend, who also just happened to be a doctor, in order to find out what was going on. The truth came out: Rowan was gifted, and with none other than Strigiform Physiology. Much of his abilities and unusual behavior could be compared to those of an owl - which was also where his shifting came from. Like most owls, Rowan's circadian clock only allowed him to become active at night and he would have to sleep during the day to regain his energy. Caroline's gift — Raptor Physiology — had milder symptoms during its onset, and their mother and father learned to deal with it easily, pretending they had adopted two new raptors instead of children. All things considered, he still wound up getting a successful education and moving on to get (various) jobs; it's difficult to work one job if you're always on the night shift. His favorite jobs include librarian, bookstore clerk, and waiter. Rowan was not blind to the subpar treatment of the gifted by the world around them, and tries to keep his own abnormalities a secret. His family was much more tolerant of his gifts than most, especially since it just made him better at his job. But, considering his fragility and lack of experience in physical combat, he's just laying low, even more so since he heard about gifted going missing. At least the night shift pays well!

All was well until Caroline disappeared. She had told him that that she was headed for work one morning, and that they would go out to get takeout for dinner. He waited fifteen minutes past when they were supposed to meet, thought something was wrong, and called her phone. No answer. He called four times with no response - well unto ten PM and then decided to call some of her employees. She was gone. She'd simply dissolved into thin air without a trace. No one had even seen anything, and from what he gathered she's not the only one. And he hasn't seen her since.

[ noted relations ] Caroline Crane (sister)

[ other ] A night owl is all senses of the world. He tends to stay up all night, and sleep during the day. His circadian cycle is pretty much flipped on its head.
Even though he likes raw meat, he tends to settle for 'medium rare' once in a while just to blend in. People are going to give you weird looks if you order rare all the time apparently.
