Jack turned back to his humanoid form and very nearly managed to bring up a shield. As it was, he went flying, tossed away trailing smoke and fire. He smashed through a row of deactivated Knights and lay there, groaning slightly. Slowly, bones began popping back into place and stitching themselves back together. His eyes, which had boiled away, reformed. Any metal he had been wearing, such as the entirety of his chest plate, was glowing white hot but the red robes of the Court had remained undamaged. What little shrubbery and debris was in the crater the prone figure lay in began catching fire and melting as his armor rapidly ejected the excess heat to the surrounding environment.

"That," Jack said, getting to his knees, one hand in the ground to steady himself, "sucked."

Didact saw the Knights deactivating and the temple light up and guessed what was going on. 'Bring us in to land." He told Beowulf. "Let's have a look around that temple." The Cryptum began descending.

Jack roared in return and rushed towards the metal dragon, unleashing a torrent of fire as he went. He got up close and immediately began slashing the creature, spitting fire the entire time. He felt his claws begin tearing through the outermost layers.

"Doesn't look too good down there." Didact muttered, watching the battle. The Cryptum was focusing on the largest targets, trying to remove the major threats first. However, the cannons were yeilding very limited results.

"Oh, to hell with it." He muttered. "Start firing missiles." He said.

Beowulf nodded. 'Aye, missiles away."

Didact watched half a dozen plumes of smoke approach either dragon.

Jack saw the dragon and growled deep in his throat. He fired a single powerful ice spell at it before leaping into the air, turning into his dragon form as he went. With a roar, he dived towards the attacker, aiming for the underbelly.

"Err... there's a few more dragons down there now." Bowupf said. Didact nodded.

"Target the ones that aren't with us." He said.

"What a disappointing order." Beowulf muttered.

"Hey, that's what I said when they had you commissioned." The Forerunner replied distractedly, watching the guns open fire on the two dragons.

Jack summoned a shield and slowly began moving forwards. He would drop the shield for a few seconds, fire off a few bolts and raise it once again. He was hoping to get into range where he could use the Sword.

"Didact, clear a path." He growled.

The Cryptum's turrets retargeted to enemies directly in his path.

Didact nodded. "Target the explosives." He told Beowulf. Immediately, the AI sent off a small barrage of micro-missiles at them. Didact watched as the first of the missiles approached their targets.

Jack had looked up to see the missiles being fired but had now gone back to fighting, firing lances of energy at the enemies manning the temple.

"Focus fire on those turrets." Didact snapped. Beowulf nodded and began shooting at the designated targets. Jack focused on picking off the Knights on the battlements from a distance.

"Is there any way we could remote start those explosives?" He asked.

"I could shoot at them." The Didact offered.

Didact nodded to Beowulf, who immediately drove the ship into the gap before the formation could close up, firing all the way.

"They're moving away." Jack intoned as the Knights began retreating. "Press the advantage for as long as you can, but don't let them lead you away." He said, firing off bolts to take down Knights but not giving actual chase.

Jack was moving from Knight to Knight with astonishing speed. Here and there he would fire off a large bolt or beam of energy which would mow through the mass. Mostly, he just used his Sword, cutting through the creatures with ease. What few Knights were able to fire at him found their bolts easily deflected.

The Cryptum was firing a steady volley of projectiles into the attacking force. Didact was stood in front of a large monitor, watching the battle. He would occasionally tap on any enemy that seemed to be getting into a good position and the ship's weaponry would quickly take it out. At the same time, he carefully observed the fighting technique of the others.

"Target the mass!" Didact shouted.

"Locked." The AI replied.

"Fire at will." The Forerunner said.

Jack nodded. "Drop the ramp." He ordered. Didact complied. After a moment spent studying the formation on the Cryptum's displays, Jack jumped out of the ship, Sword of Aeons appearing in his hand.

"How lovely." Didact muttered, bending down slightly to observe the Immortals a bit better. "I could almost feel sorry for you." He said, not entirely unsympathetically. When Faith's response to Dragunar came over the speakers, Didact straightened up and turned.

"Father? Hmm. I assume he could destroy us all in a blink if he so wished?" The Forerunner asked.

"Yes, well, I'm just going to go be a visiting wildcard over here." Jack said, stepping away from the Didact. He got the feeling that being too close to him for any extended period of time wasn't a good life choice.

"Well, we're almost there. Should be coming into view soon." Beowulf said. Didact nodded.

"Do we have a plan, or are we just going to take it as it comes?" He asked Sliuril.

"I think the last time we were forced to make an actual plan was maybe a week ago, when we had all those SPARTANs with us. You know, when they all died in a small village." Jack said.

"I get the feeling that this isn't a very stable group. Do you guys get a retirement plan or something?" Didact muttered.

"Well, yes I could certainly do that but this conversation is quite interesting." Beowulf said as Didact lowered the ramp to let Faith out. Didact himself had glanced upwards upon the mention of the Sundering.

"Beowulf." He said in a slight warning tone.

"Oh, very well." The AI gave a theatrical sigh. "If you could just list everything you've ever killed."

Jack raised an eyebrow.

"I'm joking. Tell me more about the Primordials. And your parents. And siblings, sure." The AI said.

"A comedian, huh?" Jack asked the Didact.

"I'd say you get used to it but you... you don't. You really don't." Didact told him.

Didact blinked. "Bad luck, huh?" He asked, raising an eyebrow at Jack and Faith. Naomi's small gesture wasn't wasted on him either, but he decided not to comment.

"You'll experience it yet." Jack promised.

"He has a way of dealing with things or getting lucky or something." Beowulf said. "Unfortunately."

"Err... great." Didact replied over the external speakers. Then he covered the mic and turned to Faith. "There's a pretty big dragon out there. Friend of yours?" He asked. Jack moved forward and found one of the displays that showed the dragon.

"Draugnur." He confirmed.

"The one that-"

"Yes, yes." Jack nodded.

Didact uncovered the mic. "Do you want us to land or is this fine?" He asked.

"Something on the edge of our sensors." Beowulf told the Didact.

"I see it." The Didact nodded. "Hold your course, but bring weapons to standby. We don't know what it is. Perhaps it'd be best to leave it alone."

The AI complied. Jack stood up and rolled his shoulders. "You don't seem to be familiar with our luck, Didact." Was the only comment he made. Beneath his helmet, Didact raised his eyebrow then shrugged.

Beowulf leaned in to talk to Jack. "Well, he seems happy." The AI hissed, gesturing towards Elijah. Jack nodded.

"You know, I still haven't decided whether or not I like him." He muttered. "But it's a good decision to send them both to the Godsphere."

"You'll have to tell me about it. I don't think my master would be welcome there."

Jack chuckled. "I don't think I am either, if it comes to that. Are we almost at Shimmervale?"

"Another twenty minutes." The AI replied.

Jack nodded and looked at the Didact, who was bent over readings and displays. "Must you monitor them so closely?" Jack asked. "I would've thought the AI would take care of all of that."

Didact shrugged. "I have no proof of it, but I'm fairly sure he's tried to kill me via neglect several times. It's something of a game between us now. He comes up with new ways to kill me, I come up with new ways to survive. Keeps me on my toes."

"Oh, yes, on that note, would you mind killing him?" Beowulf asked Jack.

(I'd like to, but that's one character that I think I'd get pretty wrong.)

"I can bring in Knights in at my discretion. I'm sure Copper has her own to call upon as well." Didact nodded. "However, I question the intelligence of bringing in" here, he glanced somewhat apologetically at Naomi, "humans. Especially one who may care for the quarry." He finished simply.

Jack shrugged. In the end, it was more or less the same to him. He'd heard things about this Master Chief but he wasn't entirely sure it would be in his power to handle what they were facing.

Didact nodded again. "This Adam fella. Is he around?" He asked. "Only I get the feeling we could use as much backup as we can get. As for extremely high temperatures, I guess the Cryptum's weapons can help out there."

Beowulf appeared by Jack. "You don't get on too well with the Didact, do you?"

Jack shrugged. "Not really what we're talking about right now." He said. Beowulf nodded and remained standing.

"So, are you concerned about what's happening here?" The AI asked.

Jack hesitated. "It could go bad." The demon admitted reluctantly. "But that's why we're going to do something about it."
