Referring to the concern raised by SimpleNatureLover, it shouldn't be an issue if your friends call you by your nicknames. The feature could simply be such that if you would like to mention someone in your feed, you have to call them out by their username. Only then will they receive their notification. It'd be like Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, where you'd have to type "@[FULL USERNAME]" to be able to mention someone in your feeds/posts.

The ability to mention someone by nicknames would be highly inconvenient. Let's say 2 people have a nickname called Joe and someone mentions "@Joe" in their feed. Both users will receive the notification even though it might have been meant of only one of them. That's why this feature, if implemented, should only allow you to mention full usernames because these would be unique to the person you'd want to mention.

But apart from that the ability to mention someone in your feeds would be rather useful in my opinion :D

For me, it is not about regarding some users as higher or more important than others, but rather protecting those users who happen to be on the frontlines of service (i.e. the users who're actually out there dealing with the problems that other users have).

My mom owns a shop, and often the staff receive abuse from customers just for doing their job. Therefore, our shop, just like many other shops, has a notice at the counter reminding customers that abusing the staff is not tolerated. Another analogy would be of certain countries which have laws that prohibit harrassing other people, but at the same time also have specific laws that forbid abusing a public servant, simply because public servants (i.e. the police, fire brigade etc) are more likely to face abuse while carrying out their duties.

Similarly, something along these lines should be explicitly mentioned in the rules. Of course, treating each other with respect is already a given, but people also need to be reminded not to harass or heckle the few users trying to do their jobs by maintaining the site and providing service to other users :)

I often watch vids and stuff while clicking so sometimes when I encounter these pokemons without names I end up clicking nothing without realizing [Read more]
