Dennis watched quietly as the flames flickered. His hands were nervously clawing at each other. He stood and crouched next to the fire. He was a few feet away, not wanting to be too close to the others, in fear that they would be uncomfortable. His heart pounded as his mind raced towards the conclusion that this game may not result in his living.

His fingers began poking holes in the sand. Over and over again. His hands were painting a little picture in the sand. He rolled his eyes and swept the sand back over the holes.

Dennis hesitated before looking at her. He was tempted to say that he wasn't alright and that he felt like a dumpster fire, but the thing was, he knew what to compare pain to, so he just absent mindedly nodded.

"Yes. I'm alright. Besides, what else to do in this place. I was planning to ask the person for a book or something to learn about the culture here, but she left before I could ask."

Dennis frowned. The rain was drenching his hair. He shivered. It had been quite a while since he had felt rain pour. He watched Paiyoon carefully. She was definitely an odd person. He couldn't place the feeling, but he didn't trust her, but he didn't feel threatened by her.

He felt a sneeze come up and quickly brought his elbow up. After a fit of sneezes and coughs, he sighed and went to a tree nearby Paiyoon. He hadn't said much in all of his trip, most of his time was spent worrying about the supplies.

Dennis had kept his mouth shut. His eyes were fixed on the ground. As the rain fell on top of his silver curls, he listened quietly to the others' conversation.

This feels like a game... I don't even like games.

He turned over his hand and watched the droplets fall into his palm. He didn't come on the expedition to end up dead. He tilted his chin up, watching Iroha. A local would be nice to have as a friend. Especially one of such high status. He frowned at Paiyoon's flirting, either way though, he just wanted to stay alive.

"Iroha... Can you explain this situation? I'm having a hard time understanding it, and Paiyoon is giving me a headache."

If there was one word to describe Dennis, it would be grumpy. Described by some people to have a "boomer who doesn't know how to have fun" mentality, Dennis often treats children harshly and critically.

Taking from his mother, Dennis possesses slightly curly silver hair. Dennis has average height, standing at 5'10.

I've spent a lot of my life screaming for my mom.

"Mama! Come look!"

"Mama... Please look at me..."

"Mama? Who's that?"

"Please Mama! Don't go..."

"Mama. Stop smoking. It's bad for your lungs."

"Mama- Please... You promised me and Dad that you'd watch over me."

The kids would laugh at me for loving my mother. Ungrateful brats. Margaret appreciated me though.

"Margaret, would you do me the honor of marrying me?"

We had two children... Both died. Tried three more times... all miscarriages. Just like my mother, she started spiraling.

"Margaret... What did I tell you... you need to stop smoking."

I guess she's happier now, in a better place...

He keeps his eyes on the blade, watching the moonlight gently shimmering on the dagger. His fingers run along the edge. After a silent moment, he opens his mouth, trying to think of how he could put it.

"I put together a recipe for a humanity ending potion. The way I see it, if the entities take over too many of us, before anybody can suffer, I can just... end it."

He keeps the blade in his sight as he spins it around in his palm.

"I have seven more ingredients I need. Two of which I can get easily, but don't have the heart to. 3 are things that could get me killed. Still, I'm always kept up at night thinking what would happen if I lose hope too early on. I worry if I get the recipe wrong and we'll die in our sleep. Plus, there's the fear that those two soldiers managed to tell others about it before I-"

He shook his head.

"I'm worried that people would find out about it and think I'm a traitor to humanity instead of what I actually mean."

Freyr rolled his eyes, but he was smiling, so it was clear that he found it funny as well.

"Freyr, nice to meet you. This isn't normally how I meet people, but I guess it works."

He nodded to Keori.

"Thank you, however, the type of work I did required me to not be as clumsy. Last time, I cost the organization a few hundred dollars after I accidentally crumpled the 'all important' papers."

Freyr nodded at her and walked over to a bookshelf. Using his body to block people from seeing what he was doing, he quickly pulled out a piece of paper and wrote a quick note detailing the campus and the students. Jotting down the abilities of the students, he tucked the paper back into a pocket.

As he straightened, he hit his head on a bookshelf and a few books toppled down in front of him. He moved quickly to scoop up the books again.
