Cutter jumped when he heard the question. The voice had come from somebody who must've been very close. "I'm over here." he replied, lowering his gun and waving his arm, hoping it would be enough to catch anyone's attention. Still, he was wary. I had been a full four years since he had talked to another human. It was entirely possible that people had started turning on each other. He had come past several bodies, and while most were killed by mutants, it seemed that human raiders were also a worry. Just another item on a very extensive list.

Cutter started walking towards the edge of the trees, keeping his pistol raised. He'd had far too many encounters with mutants at night to lower it and not feel an impeding sense of doom. Slowly, he broke through the last few trees and looked around for anything that might give away the position of anything that might be watching him. The sun had set by now and night had fallen with the silent swiftness of a shadow encasing the land.

Cutter ejected his clip from his pistol, visually confirmed it was full and slapped it back into the gun.

Cutter looked around. The temperature was dropping rapidly, as it always did during the night. He wasn't going to risk making a fire, as there was a chance that it would attract mutants. He brought his hands up and started rubbing them together. Cutter tried to relax and closed his eyes. That was when he became aware of somebody, or something, nearby. He snatched is pistol from the ground and stood up.

Cutter dug through his bag. Among his supplies, there were two bars of chocolate. Anything high in energy was considered pretty uncommon. If it tasted good, it was a straight up luxury. He smiled to himself and peeled away the wrapping paper. Cutter broke off a piece a started chewing, savoring the taste. A few birds cawed overhead, making him glance skyward. Chances were that they were mutated and looking for a light snack. He shook his head. The world had really gone to seed.

Soon enough, Cutter came to a small clump of trees, growing in the middle of nowhere. He walked in to find that the temperature was mercifully cooler. Exhausted he sat down against a trunk and took out a canteen half full of water. He hadn't realized how tired he had been. 'Old age has it's disadvantages' he thought as pain shot up and down his leg. Cutter took a sip from the canteen and sorted through his supplies. He took his Pistol out of the holster and set it on the ground next to him. Rubbing his leg, he settled down for what he was sure was going to be an extremely long night.

(Yeah, let's just start.)

Cutter squinted at the sky. The sun was getting fairly low. Perhaps it was best to start looking for shelter. He stood up and looked around. There wasn't exactly a lot to see. Low shrubbery studded the rather flat land. He preferred to stay away from the abandoned cities and towns as that was where the majority of the mutants amassed. He shook his head and sighed. Cutter hefted his backpack and set off towards the setting sun at a steady jog.

Five years. Five long years. That's how long it had been since Earth had fallen into chaos. World leaders had turned again each other. Another Cold War had started. All it had taken was someone to push a little button, and everything mankind had built over hundreds of thousands of years was destroyed. Several survived. But few managed to adapt to the wasteland.

Soon, the radiation started having effect. Mutated monsters now roam the land, most of them bent on killing all survivors. Only a few had lived through the five years of hell. Of course, that's all that Earth is nowadays. It's Hell down here... but it's time to take it back.

You are a survivor, somehow still alive. But staying that way is getting significantly harder, day by day. Resources are scarce and temperatures have sky rocketed around the world, but can fall far below zero at night. Mutant encounters are becoming more common. You need to find other survivors and you need to find them fast...

History: Before the incident, Cutter was a Captain in the Marines. Having survived the incident, he gathered any Marines he could find, along with any survivors. Slowly, everyone in his group died, either from rouge attacks by the mutants or due to the harsh elements. Now, he just tries his best to get along without anyone else.
