She laughed and reciprocated the hug. Silver bit her tongue and rested her forehead on his shoulder, figuring that she would forever be guilty if she were to lie to him. "I hate to make this goodbye harder, but I think I've developed... romantic feelings for you, just a little bit. I don't think it would be fair to you to just leave you in the dark forever," she said, pulling away so that she wouldn't put him in an even more awkward situation. Silver pushed a tendril of hair out of her face and cast her eyes bashfully to the ground; a faint pink had crept up her cheeks.

Jack nodded, then realized that she was blind to his nonverbal gestures. "Okay," he said aloud. "Although we seem to be in a higher-class town. I doubt there are any actual houses, but... I've been doing this for a long time and I'm sure we can find a reasonable shelter." He thought about the money and bit his lip in distress. We'll have to revert to stealing at some point... which I hate to do in front of Crystal.

Silver sighed but mustered a small, sad smile. "I... yeah. I-i guess. I don't know where I'll go, but I'll make sure I'll do something good." Her eyes were drawn to the box and her ears swiveled with interest. A genuine flare meshed with her smile and she delicately took the gift.
She laughed, softly, her tail curling around her calf. "Thank you, Mango. This is... really nice of you. It means a lot to me, it really does. You're a good friend. I hope I see you again."

Elli observed her and silently wondered if he had made a terrible decision by ripping it. Serves me right for being too bold, he thought, blinking sharply when he realized that he sounded like his mother.
"Was your father... not in the picture?" He asked softly, not expecting a good answer.

Dawn silently cursed Justin and laxly cocked her head to the side. She channeled all of her frustration into a single glare that followed Umbra's face. "I don't think you know your place. You hardly know anything about any of us, did you forget? You mess with me, you mess with Jasper." She stretched her neck to the side and held her head normally. Inside of the dark mass that was covering her hands she was clenching her fists, using her nature to gradually disintegrate the shadows.

"No worries, no rush. You're lucky, you know. There's no arrangement or political pressure in your case... you're free to find whoever you like." Monty looked up at Jackson. His tone was calm and pleasant. "Although your mother may be picky about who chooses her dear son."

Wither stole a quick glance at Void and figured she should probably interrogate him later for safety measures. It was reckless of her to bring him to the base in the first place. "Well, at least it worked out. And I'm sure he'd tell you if you just asked... how old was he when he met you?"

"Oh, that's... quite a lot like how weather dragons function, actually," Adeline acknowledged, pushing a strand of hair out of her face and laughing softly. Although they'd probably try to hunt lions if there were any in the area, she thought. "Tell me about the protagonist?"

"Every second in the public eye is jeopardizing our safety," Jack responded. He then bit his tongue and silently chastised himself for sounding too harsh. "It's just... I've always been safe because I don't mingle with the outside. People only cause trouble, and honestly, this system--this kingdom--is just so crappy and corrupt that we'd be better off without it."
He sighed and stopped walking to look at his surroundings. "Sorry. I didn't mean to break out into a rant there." His tail swished rhythmically and he piled his meandering focus onto it to gather himself.
"Where should we go next?" Jack looked over at Crystal. His eyes softened--of course, she wouldn't be able to see that--when he looked at her patched-up face; he was less concerned about the future of her eyesight, which was an entire bout of stress he didn't want to look into, and more about their current journey. I guess we'll have to take a pause on the travels.

Silver flinched when she heard the hollow, repetitive thuds on the door. Force members would've knocked louder, she thought, painfully familiar with their aggressive nature. She did a double-take of her house and the contents of her backpack. It was only at this moment that she realized she would quite miss it; she had been comfortable in her current situation and was not looking forward to that being torn apart. Disappearing into the unknown did not seem like a fair trade.
But it's that or war.
Silver pinned back her ears and walked towards the door. She opened it, swiftly stepped out, then closed and locked it. "Hey, how's it going?" She greeted, kneeling down to slide the key under the doormat.

Wither put a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "Where did Kurai come from?" She asked, realizing that she didn't quite know anybody's past. Upon further thought, Tony and Castiel were the only people she knew about for sure and they were... well, neither of them had the happiest history.

"What?" Dawn snapped suddenly, turning back to the treeline. "How? There's no way for them to even find this place." She put a hand over her head and sighed. "We need to move after this--it's clearly not safe. As far as I know, we're at least a quarter of a days' walk away from any of Maxwell's friends." She bit her lip to keep herself from saying anything more. Revealing Maxwell's friends' location to Umbra was a hazard.
But if it is it'll be convenient, she thought. Dawn took a deep breath to calm herself and walked towards the treeline. "Can you... pinpoint?" She asked.

Tempest walked towards them just as they vanished. His tail flicked in amusement and he lay down on his stomach, watching the spot that they had been. She still takes care of her Fantasies, he thought, anticipating Mavis's return.

Adeline took his body language into account and did her best to come off less boldly. "Oh, I've always loved reading. What's it about?" She asked, finding his embarrassment cute but making no mention of it.

[*ominous time skip*]
The woman sorted ointments and herbs into a bag. The moment she had finished and returned Crystal to the front room, Jack had taken his place by her side. He was strangely silent and his face was unreadable in a way that made the woman mildly uncomfortable, but he seemed to care for Crystal and listened carefully when she explained what the contents in the bag were for and how to apply them properly.
"I do hope the best for you two," she said warmly, her ears pinning back. She told Jack the price and he began to count it out in coins. He spoke simply, "Thank you."
He then took the bag and put a light hand on Crystal's arm to guide her outside the apothecary; the speed at which he moved confused the woman as he seemed eager to leave as soon as possible.

Silver ransacked her apartment and began to shove necessities into a backpack. Her weapons she stored on her person. She moved quickly and efficiently--the military had taught her well--and spent any extra time she had until Mango arrived to take away personal records and hide her traces.

Wither nodded and listened carefully. "Yes, I... remember the failed experiments. Back when we were children, the demon scientists were in huge trouble from their officials because of their poor... discard system, as they called it. Although their testing methods were always peculiar as well, so there's no telling which one you fall to."
She paused and wondered if what she said would come off as harsh--Magnolia's presence always made her think carefully for the better. "But you're safe here," Wither added.

Elli lightly rested his hand on her shoulder blade to reassure her. "I don't think you should be guilty... you did what you could to save the lives of your parents. That's a heroic act, Ivy. And it's not like you jeopardised the Nova's chances of winning the war--if you had, we wouldn't be doing this right now. Nothing can break the stalemate."
He sighed and picked up her letter. "Your uncle, he... he sounded like he loved you a lot. I'm sure he would forgive you, especially if it was for such a good cause. You have a good heart and any good person should value that above all else."
He poked her cheek to draw her attention and softened his voice. "Don't let them break you. They could be lying, anyway." He ripped the letter into pieces and tossed its remains beside him. "That letter, it's just... mind games. Propaganda. Whatever you want to call it."

She took a deep, frustrated breath and nodded. "Just until he's gone, Justin. He won't know where I'm taking him. Can you do that?" Dawn turned to him with worried eyes, locking gazes with him. She couldn't see well in the dark, but the difference in color was apparent. Dawn bit the tip of her tongue and her muscles tightened--she had to be ready to fight him at any time.

Mavis did not, in fact, relax. Xena touched her and her primal instinct was to panic and jerk away, but she had to remind herself that Xena was not a stranger. Perhaps living in the forests for so long had ruined her. A hand over her face was even less reassuring. Her fists clenched subconsciously in protest and the darkness around her seemed to intensify. But her knees began to weaken as the spell took effect on her mind and before she knew it she had fallen, enveloped in unconsciousness. The darkness around her was soothed and gradually faded away.

Monty characteristically tipped the small crown of black thorns that was nestled in his hair back at Jackson when he bowed--his son was, perhaps, the only person he would reciprocate acts of respect to. His dark eyes twinkled with interest when he was told about Percy and he set his book on the throne so that he could rise and get a closer look.
He didn't have to bend down to inspect him, but he looked down and broke into a smile. "I didn't expect to become a grandfather so soon," he said, and tenderly stuck his hand out at Percy for him to shake it. For a royal, it was about as affectionate as he could get to someone he was just introduced to.

Monty apparated in the air above his throne and slowly floated down, his legs over the arm of the chair and his book opened on his stomach. He smiled. "Hello, Jackson. It's been quite a while since I've seen you. And who is this that you've brought along?"

Dawn nodded and turned around to help him, realizing that Justin was there and beginning to worry. Umbra heard everything. Damn it. She dug her nails into her palms briefly before opening the barn door for him. His face seemed to be less composed than usual and when they were both out of the barn, and the door had been closed so Maxwell couldn't hear, she turned to him. "How are you doing?"
----------
Mavis walked out of the house, surprised that a pretty girl was there in place of Xena. She realized what was happening when she spoke and shrugged it off--there wasn't much about Xena that could surprise her anymore.
"Yeah," she said simply.

Wither only nodded and quietly conversed with Void to stay out of the way. "You have a room, right? I'm dead tired and way too much has gone on today."
She smiled. "You can sleep after this. Although it's your fault you decided to follow me." Wither teasingly nudged him with her other foot.
"Well, too bad. You're stuck with me now. Forever." Void readjusted his position around her ankle and affectionately touched her with his nose.

Adeline stopped in her tracks and turned, pulling back the chair across from him and sitting criss-cross. "Then chat I will~" she smiled. Her eyes drifted to the notebook in front of him--not quite reading the words to respect his privacy--and interest sparkled in her eyes. "What have you been writing?"
