"Yep." Forge yawned. "Dunno about you, but I don't think I'm attending classes today." he muttered. Then he fell asleep. He didn't dream, as usual. The next few months promised to be exciting, and he wanted to be at his best tomorrow. First impressions mattered a lot.

"Who the hell was that?" Cutter grunted, pulling himself upwards. He would have to wait for an answer. It seemed unlikely that the girl would be anything of a match for the mutant, and he wasn't exactly in the best possible tactical situation. Still, he held onto the vines with one hand and with the other, he aimed for the rock-thing's head. Three quick pulls of the trigger and three bullets sailed towards their target.

Forge raised an eyebrow. At least there wouldn't be any arguments over which side belonged to who. He looked around again and then sat down on his bed. If he closed his eyes, he could imagine being home. But enough of that. Forge shed the weight of his bag and put it over by his locker. He wouldn't unpack it quite yet. First things first. He walked back over to the bed and stuffed his face into the pillow. Classes could wait. Sleep couldn't.

(SOOOOO MUCH DAMN!)

In an instant, Dutch had his rifle pulled out and pointed at Glaurug. "And here I was, considering not killing you." he growled. Locke raised an arm. "Stand down. Let me deal with this." he frowned. Dutch didn't move. Locke looked at him. "Was my order unclear, soldier?" he asked. Dutch kept his rifle raised, considered for a moment... and then lowered it. "No, sir." he muttered. Sarge muttered something about forgetting his shotgun, which was slung across his back, and moved away, Caboose in tow. Locke turned back to Glaurug. "So you're the reason my men are dead." he whispered, each word dripping with venom. He removed his helmet so that he could look down at Glaurug. His stare was so intense that even the Lord of Chaos might have been inclined to look away. Fire burned in his brown eyes. Locke clasped his hands behind his back, afraid that he might not be able to control them. His breath caught in his throat and every muscle in his body had tensed, anticipating the blow that would send Glaurug to high hell. He took a step towards the assassin. His armor, usually weightless to him, now seemed to drag him down. He was entirely aware of everything going on around him. A shrew, nibbling at some seeds, water in the distance, the smell of wet grass, birds chirping in the trees. How could it all be so normal? If the world had reflected his mood, everything would have been burning, screaming in agony. "Do you think... that a single moment goes by without their faces right there in front of me?"
He took another step forward.
"They're seared into my mind. Ellsworth, Fredrick. Petty Officer Second Class. Service Number: 0533-2167-FE. Pravdin, Linda. Petty Officer First Class. Service Number: 4729-6612-LP." he paused. " Locke, Alex. Lieutenant Second Class. Service Number: 1523-7682-AL"
Dutch stared at him, open mouthed. He hadn't known.

Forge suddenly realized what he'd signed up for by opening the door. "I guess you'll just have to get used to me holding open doors for you." he said, jokingly. He stepped into the room, leaving the door open behind him. It was quite large and, to his eyes at least, unnecessarily over-decorated. But then again, he was used to pretty spartan rooms. Perhaps he should just be grateful. Forge turned around to examine the schedule on the door of the dorm.

"Tell me something." Dutch asked Glaurug. "How the hell did you manage to fall in love with a dragon?"
"I've dated worse." Sarge muttered. Locke gave a chuckle and managed to pass it off as a violent cough. Caboose, more than back to normal now, looked a little lost, rubbed the top of his helmet and, to his credit, remained silent.

Cutter turned around, saw Sylvie, mentally plotted the quickest route to her and ran as fast as he could. He easily vaulted over a wall and threw himself at the vines, found a handhold, and started climbing. . In seconds, he was standing in front of Sylvie. "Run." he advised. It seemed that, in the last half-an-hour, his life had boiled down to that one word.

"Hope you don't mind sharing..." Forge muttered, fishing out his own envelope from his bag. Sure enough, he was in room 28. He scanned down the hallway to find the number. "Here we go." he said and pushed the door with the assigned number on it. It opened smoothly enough. He looked over at Aclyma. "Ladies first." Forge smiled and gestured to the dorm beyond.

Cutter looked up, unsure. "Err... s**t?" he asked. His hand was on his gun, though he was rather doubtful that it would affect a rock. He slowly started backing away. He was contemplating whether or not he should run. Perhaps it's vision was based on movement or something like that. 'If only I was that lucky...'

(SECOND Doctoral Thesis.)
(Oh, and about the Blood Gulch stuff, I swear I'm gonna connect that to the main story-line further on.)

Jack made an ancient arcane symbol with one finger. Dutch barely suppressed a smile. Locked cocked an eyebrow. "So... when do Faith and Sliuril plan on gracing us with their presence." he asked. "Hmm..." Sarge considered. "Knowing your luck? They probably heard that comment."
"Good point. I'll shut up."

(Ah, the contrast in questions.)
"Okay then." Forge said, looking at Aclyma. Then he turned back to Aria. "I'd like to see that schedule. Want to point me to a dorm?" he asked 'And I'm also damn tired... and hungry...' he thought. "What about food? Please tell me it's not like school dinners. I've had enough of those to last me a lifetime, thank you very much."

Forge raised an eyebrow. "Did I just hear the word 'music'?" he asked. "How does that fit in with anything? What are we gonna do, sing monsters to death?"
Maybe that's a bit too far...
"Eh, don't worry. A lot of people like saying stuff like that." he said in what he hoped was a somewhat friendlier tone.

(Somebody's done their homework. A few corrections, though. Captain Jacob Keyes was her husband, KIA, Miranda (who kinda hated Halsey) is KIA, Halsey's last known position was on Sanghelios, part of the Arbiter's revolt(though you probably won't need that) and yeah, she was writing her second Doctoral Thesis at the age of 15. She's broken military law several times.)
(Don't kill me.)

Locke looked at Glaurug. "I dunno. Mean version sounded pretty logical. And I'm pretty sure a logical Caboose was one of the signs of Judgement Day." he said.

In Blood Gulch...

"So... anybody want to say something?" Church asked, looking at the freshly dug grave.
"Yeah, go ahead." Tucker said.
"Not me, s**t-head. I'm not gonna eulogize myself."
"What's wrong with that? Look dude, it's only your stupid body, it's not that important."
"Hey! My body fought long and hard for Order!"
"I kn-" Sheila started,
"SHUT UP, SHIELA!" Church shouted. "I didn't say I'd forgiven you for killing me yet. J-just go back to base! Shoo! Shoo!"
The tank lowered it's cannon in a good imitation of disappointment and trundled away.

Forge looked at the girls. "My name's John Forge." he nodded. "Now that we're all acquainted, would you mind telling us exactly what goes on here?" he asked, the question directed at Aria. He took a moment to wonder why he was still standing there and took a tentative step forward to see if anybody would try to stop him.

"Y'know, the kid has the upper body strength of an ox." Sarge muttered. "No. I simply assumed that by being mean, I would be accepted into a group where being mean to others is the the norm. In addition to that, it is a useful skill at times. For example, you are being mean to me right now." Caboose said. Locke's mouth was slightly open, not that any human present could see that through his helmet. Then Caboose looked around. "I-I'm sorry, did somebody say something, I wasn't listening." he said. "Holy..." Dutch muttered.

Cutter burst through the last few trees, and was immediately running past what looked like an office block. He pointed his gun into the air and fired once.

Atriox slowed upon hearing the gunshot. Every instinct screamed at him to stop and dive for cover. Then he realized his mistake. By that time, his prey was too far ahead for him to reasonably hope to catch her again. Solium and Polous jogged up to him. "Tell me you got the man." he said. Their faces said it all. His face remained blank for a second and then he let out a roar that would've been heard for miles around.

Locke looked up. "So. You boys from Blood Gulch. Got any stories to pass the time?" he asked, activating his jetpack. Sarge smiled. "Plenty."
"Am I gonna believe them?" Dutch asked. "Probably not. But they're all true. You can look it up in the files." Sarge declared.
Caboose looked at Glaurug. "I will devour your soul if you say I'm unimportant again." Locke's eyes widened. "What the-"
"The duckling taught me how to be mean."
"And I'm regretting it." Jack announced.

Cutter ran as fast as he could. Though he no longer had anything chasing him, he was confident that Sylvie did. He pulled out his Pistol. Just a few more minutes. That was all Sylvie needed. The trees had started thinning and more light had started penetrating the canopy above. He knew that the city was just beyond the final trees.

Solium and Polous shook themselves. They had absolutely no idea what had happened. One minute they had been chasing a human, the next, they were on the floor. "Atriox will have my hide for this." Polous muttered, rubbing his head.

"Honestly?" Jack asked. "No. She's only manipulative if you listen to her with the intention of doing whatever she asks."
"What's wrong with her being manipulative. I get manipulated ALL THE TIME." Caboose said. Locke and Dutch looked at each other. "Caboose-" Locke started.
"Hold on, what does manipulate mean again?" Caboose asked.
"Nevermind."
Sarge raised an eyebrow, but said nothing.

(I just thought, looking at your character... never mind.)
(And I almost died laughing. I mean, there's no generic look for a 'Cutter'.)

Cutter saw a shadow appear on the ground. "What?" he looked up without breaking pace. A massive boulder was plummeting towards him. "Oh my-" he put on a burst of speed. It impacted the ground right behind him. His pursuers, however, slammed face-first into the rock. Cutter gave a small laugh and continued running North.

Atriox was catching up to the woman. Not long now. His efforts would soon bear fruit. He vaguely wondered how Solium and Polous were getting on.
