I am curious as to whether there'd be anyone interested in playing in an RPG one-shot For those who don't know, tabletop RPGs are games where each of the players take on the role of a character, deciding its actions, words, history and motivations. The actions' success is decided (most commonly) with dice rolls. The players tackle the obstacles and add breathe life into the adventure the Game Master throws their way; but often times the story is entirely in the hands of the players, with the Game Master providing clues and rewards for the adventuring party. As to some technicalities: 1. The particular systems I have in mind are D&D 5e, Dungeon World or, tentatively, Pokemon Tabletop United. Starting these games requires some preparation on the players' side, but I would provide all the necessary links via palpad/PM. 2. I am absolutely fine with being the DM/GM and leading the game for you, and I don't mind newbies at all. Newbies tend to be the best players anyway! If there is anyone that would be interested in taking over the role of the GM, I am fine with that as well. 3. For the Pokemon game, there would be no age restriction. May include mild violence (Pokemon battles). For D&D or DW, the restriction would be 13+. The systems include combat, there will be moderate violence. 4. The game would be text based (although if the majority preferred to use voice, I can do it), and as much as it's NOT like a forum roleplay, where literacy means writing 5+ paragraphs per post, I would strongly prefer if you could write reasonably well: - Capitalize when you're supposed to. - Don't use chat speak. - Be able to write at least one full, descriptive sentence. No, "I pick up my sword and stab the monster" or "Ash tells Pikachu to use Thunder" are not descriptive, thank you. - Your grammar and spelling don't have to be perfect, but they have to be comprehensive. - Think fast, RPGs are meant to be played in real time. You can't take 5 minutes writing a single sentence! 5. The game would be held off-site! The site I have in mind requires registration, and it cannot be accessed properly from mobile devices, so please keep that in mind. I am basically looking for a group of 3 - 6 people. Beyond that, you can ask any questions you want, I'll be happy to answer. I think the suggestion was to make visible what a pokemon is up to. Sort of like a mega-bubble. So people could tell immediately, "oh yeah, I can't send it out rumbling 'cause it's in the GTS", instead of trying to do so, getting the message and having to go through the pokemon list all over again to find another pokemon and perhaps get another 'it's busy!' message (no matter how specific the 'it's busy' message is, you still can't tell if the pokemon is busy before trying to do something with them). You are right however that this suggestion would completely defy the point of the clearer 'busy' messages which you just implemented. While I understand all that, I am not part of any other Pokemon sites, and thus I am not aware if they have that particular small feature or not. I admit that a lot of adoptable (not Pokemon) sites do, but I think that that's what makes each of them unique in their own way. Like you've said, "any new pokemon site that may be made may be just nearly copying another site"; because Pokemon are always the same, on every site, making them your own is something to be considered special and unique. Customizable "pet" descriptions. You know how some people give their Pokemon names like "2nd Shiny X on site"? Well, how about you could have a small text field on the bottom of the Pokemon's page where you could put that info, instead. Put "not for sale" or "looking to trade for Y or Z" in the description, and it might be noticed more times than it would have been if it was stated in your "About me" or even GTS. Some people like making characters, OCs or pokesonas, which info could easily be put in that description field on a certain Pokemon, making the individual ones so much special and, well, individual. As I imagine it, the customization would likely be limited (no html / css, so no changing of the whole page's look, only what BBCode allows for) and with a character limit. It would just be an empty space if not filled in by the Pokemon's owner. To those who can't imagine what I mean, here's an example. Of course I realize that not everyone would use it; actually, 99% of the Pokemon on site would be likely to stay "anonymous" anyway, but I think it would be a nice addition for those who care about customization, and to those who like stumbling upon tidbits of writing/art by other users. Sadly, since random pictures/walls of text would eat up data for our mobile users, there would likely have to be an option to "disable viewing custom descriptions", or something along these lines. ^ This all could also lead to some minor additional features / contests, such as "Pokemon Spotlight", or whatever. This isn't necessarily my point here, but I would just like to point out the possibility. This idea has in fact been suggested before, as seen here. It has not been officially rejected, but it's stuck in limbo. Any ideas? Would any of you use it? Would you like to see what people make of it?
