Perun left the biting emotions behind the closed door, leaving them to take a hint and save their attempt for another day. Just in case, they tugged their gloves on and hurriedly hid their key among the newly echeveria-less flowerpots on their windowsill.

Click. Moving of the page- the silence in their head was once again filled, their music only white noise to Perun's loved drumming of the rain. Their trademark smile snapped into its natural habitat as they enthusiastically left the shelter of the awning to skip the wide, waterlogged stairs that led straight onto the flooded street.

On the last third, they crouched down like a determined vulture. Before they grasped the edge of the plank, they sympathetically pat the few already-loosened nails and then, they tugged- And promptly miscalculated their strength. The plank snapped in half somewhere under them and sent them landing sideways on their afk with a barely restrained guffaw. "Prff, at least you know i made it out of the front door, Flutters."

And alright then, there it was again. They really weren't going to leave this place without leaving half their hearth, huh? They lost their headstart already, might as well just… A moment more, only that.

“Not interested in a career of being another in line of monsters under the bed, Balador. We both give each other a clean new start, how does that sound?” They shifted forward and hugged one of their knees to their chest while they stretched out their left leg, idly moving it above the water surface as the heel of their muck boot created lazy ripples.
Meanwhile their hand blindly went to search for the tool they hid in the gutted stair, they tipped their head up to let the rain greet its Dizzybird, chuckling as the droplets tickled their lucky scars.

They never feared any storm, never before or after Storm Z. They had to learn the hard way that saying something like this out loud equals to something of a heresy- And really, what of theirs doesn't around these parts. Perun might as well have proudly taken that as their middle name. And that was exactly the point, wasn't it?

Anyway, the horrors, hardships at best, Storm Z brought with it didn't go unacknowledged but as all was set and done, they really had to agree with their mother's words.
Perun trustingly leaned their entire body against the railing they build what felt like millennia ago, their still upward-turned face now colored with a wistful smile as they recited the monologue they knew just as closely as their own stories. "With your generation soo much more colorful than the rest, you would unfairly struggle to inherit the forest, Birdie- But when all critters are jumping from a branch to escape the storm, none of them are able to tell the difference between each other. No matter how harsh it sometimes gets..."

They both knew that jumping among branches is not the best way for Dizzybirds to get around. Especially here, where they all grew like an intervened maze and everyone was born with a map while every copy Perun borrowed ended up scribbled over with their own build-in markers- And those colors weren't prone to getting appreciated when everyone else was just keenly waiting for you to stumble and plummet down, down, down…

It wasn't a shocking plot twist, but more of a puzzle- Where every piece was eventually bound to fall into its place. Perun was a Dizzybird and Dizzybirds wait, hold their breath till they can't possibly fall any further and then they *go*

“Its an opportunity.” And it has a different meaning today- Hopeful still, but not as clear as the path their Mother though they will get. Still, that at least keeps Perun on their toes.

Their fingers finally enclosed around the branch and they stood up, dragging the makeshift spear out of its hiding spot- Despite only having half their heart now, apparently, they still didn't regret their decision of not taking something sturdier, something useful for those who are safe enough to stay.

At least the once well- served sickle wouldn't get thrown out. Neither of them would- because Storm Z gave them the opportunity to survive long enough to choose.

And when Perun finally submerged both of their boots into the water and started dredging their way straight to one of the main roads, wearing the exact same expression of a dog asked if they want to go outside, it didn't had to feel like running away.

Ravencrones might have not met the wealth of Milton or really most of the farms in Wineria, but they prized themselves on two things: The diversity of their crops, more than few species that the flooding must have driven to near extinction.
The second are their numerous familial laborers, all stationed in a small district of concrete cabins created by their own hands, with their inherent secondness only thinly veiled.

No matter their standing in the family, they were all connected by their proud tiredness after a day of unforgiving work- Or least they would be, if Perun didn't pick this day to pace around the room in seemingly endless treasure hunt, no item on their scribbled-on shelfs left untouched.

As the ever-so-accompanying melodies in their ears picked up, they occasionally made sure the drowned radio was still silent, before continuing their quiet dance.
They were moving just right so the floor underneath them doesn't let out even the slightest crack and every successful step was apparently very amusing for them, judging by the soft giggles that did nothing to disturb their brother, quietly snoring in his own berth opposite of cluster-filled theirs.

But as Perun lovingly cradled the final prize to their chest for just a moment before placing it down among the rest- a leatherbound sketchbook keeping all the extra notes taped on them with only sheer hope - their sways stopped at once.
With a single breath of resignation, they took on the job of packing the last year of their life into a bag that smelled of forage.

"And so, the Dizzybird took off into the murky night, leaving Flutter Fox and Squirrel behind to do their destined great things." Their ringing voice was a twin to the cooing of a mourning dove, an adversary to the less elegant way they just shoved two other diary-like collections into their bag, cringing as something let out a small-ish crack. "Oh-bop, bop, bop- see, Balador? This is the exact thing I do around here. I am well aware of how cranky you get any time we mention the spreading your wings business but.."

They heaved up the familiar hiking bag and fixated its straps around their shoulders, checking its weight and their own balance with shimming a bit like a wet parakeet as they strutted over to the sleeping figure, squatting next to the low berth when they were sure they wouldn't go down like a turtle.
"You know I have to find enough space for mine. Somewhere with fewer needles weekly arranged in my boots, preferably." With another giggle, they reached out their freckled hand, lovingly undoing the few hair tangles Balador somehow always managed to create in his peaceful sleep.

"Ah, yes. None of that. I'm soo happy you got to have that here, Flutters. Make some new stories here while I do our job- I promise to find you some pistachios along the way. Dont worry that you didn't get to see me off properly, I will manage."
The fact that he chose to spend the few last days before his marriage and inevitable confinement to the main house was the best goodbye present as they come. Oh, how much Perun treasured that.

They would see each other again soon for sure, both with new tales to tell in their new life, but.. how much before Perun was to see them both again? Thinking that now, Perun realized that if Balador was to open his eyes right now, they might just stay. They would be awake all night, finishing each other's lyrics and guessing their future dreams, all the way till the morning. And then the day after that, and after that, before they take their brother away from them.

The music stopped. They briskly leaned over to place a kiss on Balador's scarred forehead, having to catch the side of their blanket-covered berth to avoid losing their footing- and before Balador could instinctively swat them away, Perun was gone.

Character Name: Perun Ravencrone
Age: 17
Gender: Genderqueer (They/Them)

Appearance: Not in a mood for long reads? Then here you have a close depiction, with all the art credit going toward Ummmmandy

Perun's long, gangly limbs make them look a bit like a folding chair, but upon closer inspection, you would find their freckled body to be actually quite muscular and threatening to pull you into a dance at any given moment.
Blessed not only with tanned skin and dark freckles, they have a wide nose and high cheekbones that give them the impression of particularly foxy fae, the illusion only marred by the prominent, pink-ish scar running from the far-right of their chin, all the way above their upper lip.
Perun's frizzy rust-colored hair is all braided into two messy french braids and then both tied together at the back of their head.
All around pretty, in the smiling-wide, dandelion behind the ear way. That all pretty is rivaled with dark clothes straight out of dehydration-induced hallucinations of old westerns.

They wear black high-collar, button-down shirt with white (well, as white as it can be during zombie apocalypse) embodiment of vines and several tassels at the front, complete with black jeans sporting whitish chaps to protect from underbushes and long and tipped off with bulky gloves and muck boots.
And of course, its all topped off with a black hat tied beneath their chin, one with a flattened crown and extremely wide brim.
Pulled around all that they wear a beaten-up cardigan with wide, open sleeves and belt high around their waist. Its vintage pattern and feel is betrayed by the fact that instead of cotton, it is actually waterproof nylon- and wonderful insulator, what more could a cowboy ask for during a zombie apocalypse.

Personality: When standing near Perun, it's almost too easy to forget the trials of the world. They speak in great admiration of the world around them, both natural and human-made, current or past (despite their few,, passionate hang-ups with that one.). They hope to someday be a part of the restoration of the past, but better on a second try- they have a particular fascination with keeping old stories and songs alive, recording them all into their diary.

Their everyday attitude is comparable to that of a child on the first day of school, undeniable curiosity, bordering on maddening optimism and acceptance rather than denial to the less stunning parts of life. As time went on, it became hard to untangle if all that cheeriness is real or if it all was at first only a mask- This too is met with Perun's acceptance, and though promptly shelved and moved on from.

If it used to be a mask, then separating it would be impossible now- In their mother's company and her happiness in seeing understanding and familiarity in her own child, Perun's own inherited mental illness was let to grow as it pleased, with the realization of its existence only dawning on Perun now.

Truly, it reads as if they are playing a character in a story of their own story, unconscious making- Sometimes, you might be more than happy to let them get sidetracked, just to be pulled into their light-filled world.
Other times, you might just decide that a harsh reality check is in place- But i warn you, Perun and harsh emotions do not mix well and getting sidetracked will be the last of your problems, as Perun faces rapidly spiraling emotions and paranoia.

Occupation: Farmhand, but these days they feel like more of a gatherer, saving what they can.
They used to study specifically to be a garden architect, but one has to lend a hand everywhere nowadays...
Known Family: They have an extended - and quite huge, for these times - family, all working on a farm in Thorn. Ravencrones prominently pick up hardworking strays, and while they are accepted and take on their surname, there is a deep hierarchy that outsiders aren't privy to.
Most prominent members include: Mama Opi, the family's elderly matriarch. Known for her storytelling and devil-may-care attitude toward current,, issues. Despite her conservative beliefs surviving the apocalypse, both Perun and their mother learned much from her.
Balador: Perun's dearest 'brother', the two grew up close but his decision to 'marry-up' to get a better place in the family was the final straw that pushed Perun away.
Ivana: Perun's distanced mother. Despite the two having beautiful friendship throughout Perun's life, after Storm Z their mother lost herself in desperate re-creationist work and untreated mental illness, leaving Perun to mostly fend for themselves- despite that, they still love her dearly and carry the few saved photos around.

Starter Weapon: Makeshift-spear, consisting of rusted hand-held sickle tied to a brach with leather straps. It really does tug more than it cuts- Someone clearly didn't care enough to let Perun take a proper tool. Good for keeping some distance but trying to jab it into someone would be a death sentence- for both the sickle and the wielder.

Other: * Perun was already planning on leaving Thorn and their home, sharing the same aspiration as their mother before her own health anchored her to the farm- they stole few not-native seeds saved from flooding that the Ravencrone was planning on monopolizing for and hope to spread them around.

* Particularly good at sketching and general campfire shenanigans if you put a guitar in their hands- But oh, someone give this poor fool some combat/hunt training.

* The mentioned mental illness/es in question will be left unclear for now, as i still have research to do and don't want to link my own mishaps to already demonized illnesses.

Aaa, I am an old-school PH roleplayer so let's hope there wasn't an update to RP etiquette these past 2 years- let's hope this is all up to standards!

I’m a bit nervous, not gonna lie.
Username: Arwen
Name: Baxter (Bax) Dustlane
Age: 16
Gender: Genderqueer (They/Them)

Appearance: Baxter is on a stockier side, with what they lack in height and grace they make up with their muscles and rought, work-knowing hands. Their tanned face is round and the front of their short hair is hidden under a red bandana with white dots (Think "We can do it!" poster), but their dark brown curls have a habit of escaping as often as possible.

Their trade-mark wear is a long denim cardigan that has been obviously vigorously re-patched multiple times- the back of it is filled with red and orange-tinted patches of flowers, leafs and work-related slogans.
But that is the only glaring component of their appearance (Other than the fact that both their hair and clothes occasionally twinkle with stray glitter), as the rest comprises of black overalls on a loose gray tee and terrain-ready brown steel-toed boots.

They also drag around a black travel backpack that is half their size yet strangely empty- its content only being few empty tupplewears and thermostat, a journal with just a few not-broken pencils, a pocket knife that doubles as a screwdriver, sleeping, wallet, and silvery harmonica hanging from the bag's side.

Personality: Upon glancing at Baxter, three things are obvious: 1. They most likely always have somewhere to go. 2. They don't appreciate something breaking their routine 3. If you *did* end up getting in their way, you will eighter leave out of it with eighter knowing a new colorful swear or a bottle of homemade marmalade.

Their face has the misfortune of being stuck in an ever-present glare, but their brown eyes show their innate curiosity. They have a gift of seeing the beauty in anything and go about their every day as if sight-seeing, noticing the small things in both people and the world around them.

Sadly-to-all-but-them, most of their life has been spent working in their families fields and greenhouses, and they are not well-versed in socializing, so most people take them at face value. (They don't mind that very much- people don't expect anything extraordinary from them and don't invest much time in finding out more, and they can return to their work as soon as possible.)

Their life has led them to notoriously having no filter, often poorly masked discomfort and fast-growing attachment to everyone and everything that seems to want to stick around.

Password: MOM! MY NIHILEGO MADE ANOTHER ROLEPLAY! (Ashgh, iconic-)
Other: Baxters family sent them here in hopes of finding a viable plot of land to expand their business- well, and in hopes of Bax reaching out of their comfort zone and "building a character". Being one of the rare people who are actively threatened by vocations, Baxter was not impressed.

Markhors Keep was the political center of Clear Meadows- From the outside, it was more of a Catedral than a longhouse, with a glass dome in the ceiling and all. Its second biggest pride was was the Rose Window above the entrance, depicting a leaping Markhor with fireworms flying alongside it.

Jorunn was certain that the public herb garden surrounding the Keep must be the first. Especially now, with a curious dragon sitting in grass beside her, resting her giant chin on the top of Jorunn's head as she sketches designs into a leather-bound book.

Name: Jorunn Ragnadottir
Age: 19
Gender: Trans Woman

Island: Clear Meadows
Role: Chief
Dragon Partner: Wormwood, a female Wild Wraith- a variation of Snow Wraith.

Appearance: Here. The casual clothing is hiding a sleek leather armor underneath- not the sturdiest one in the armory, but definitely useable one.
Personality: Freshly out of the hands of advisors after the sudden passing of her parents, Jorunn has already left numerous marks on her village.
Her focus seems to lay in preserving history for future generations, something a war would surely erase.
Jorunn is a gentle ruler, perhaps a bit too much in the eyes of others- She doesn't act without the input of others and this gained her the infamous reputation as a "Head-Nodded".

Despite that, she carries herself with purpose and doesn't mind getting mud on her hand when there are un-chiefly errands to run around the village. She might be unsure about her position, but she is definitely doing her best.

Jackalope tore their eyes away from their detached paw and Pavels tinkering to bid Arrow a farewell dip of the head. They never quite liked talking in this room- Pavel's constant silence felt somewhat sacred, and by association, the same went for Jack here.

The design of Jackalopes paws was... not typical. Their claws were jagged, meant to sink into the body and tear the flesh further as their opponent trashed around. When retracted, their paws almost looked like goats hooves, since the typical raptor-like style of Mechs couldn't support Jacks weight.

But now, the claws all sticked up awkwardly and wouldn't even be helpful as a cheese shredder. They will probably be here for some time...

Jackalope can't quite remember the first time they met their mechanic, but they know he was with them ever since they first opened Jackalope up, which was long enough for Jackalope to catch his name- Pavel.

Pavel was just curling up his lip at the sight of their bloodied fur and was searching for a clean rag, which Jackalope more than welcomed. They weren't friends- They couldn't be and hope to live another day. And Jack likes to think they have enough brain to not be charmed- But they... just really appreciate his existence.
Plus, Pavel seemed to enjoy his break from having to hold off canines who would love to add more scars to his face.

But that was that, and the man who was currently checking up on their only half-retracted claws was just a clear face in a sea of featureless ones. They both couldn't allow anything else.

As they entered, Jackalopses eyes immediately went to an older-looking mechanic with a long ponytail, who jerked his head upwards in a universal sign of 'come here' upon seeing them.

"You have secrets, Arrow, and that's okay... But I hope you tell someone one day, so they won't claim the rest of your body. I wish the next time we meet, it will be on a better day- maybe I could be your white knight some other time."

It was a blind-and-you-miss sort of thing, but they threw Arrow a small smile, only meant for him to see as they separated, heading for the mechanic standing next to a raised surgical table.
Jack raised themselves on their hind legs to reach the table and hoisted themselves up. Some technician let out a series of illegible, dumbfounded sounds at the display but Jack paid no mind to them, only closely watching their mechanic as they got to work.

(Response to Mhaila. Thank you for the wait!)

"Then it would seem like we are two of the same heart. I might have to settle on calling you Jack No.2, since you apparently don't want to share your name. Jack-with-more-legs, maybe? "

The artificial light above gave their fur almost ethereal glow but at the same time, highlighted the mechanical movements of their body. Jack, on one hand, fitted right in with the world around them but it all looked like a picture frame hung not-quite-right.

They were closer now, they knew. The tiles beneath them were scratched up by canines who fought till their last breath to not have to walk the path Jackalope takes every other day. "In case they decide to keep me there once and for all, I would prefer to vanish with my curiosity satisfied, you see? You don't have to answer, but I was wondering, what happened to the unlucky leg of yours?"

"Then you only heard the best things, I hope. Tell me all about them if you ever remember." Their eyes catched the movement of Arrows tail and unconsciously, they mimicked. Their own tail was held hight but swayed gently from side to side with a slight curve at the end, like cats.

They leaned over for a moment, their muzzle brushing against his ear for such a short moment that it might have never even been there. To them, Arrow smelled earthy and that was that. They didn't have any other word to describe home. "But I do not think I ever caught you around here? I think it's your turn to spill the bees."

"Just because it isn't necessary doesn't mean you can't take when offered but very well- I can't decide if your hesitation to making your life easier is admirable or plain silly." Their words clearly didn't had a target to hurt, they sounded just... fondly exasperated.
Their trot became more sophisticated and less cheery the more time they walked, the environment around them settling in their thoughts once again.
"Oh, my cot stays cold every other week but its been mine for quite some months. I'm just away, controllably missing in action most of the time- You might have heard my name in passing, does Jackalope ring any bells?"

"You're saying that as if it was a good thing." They chuckled, a puff of hot air escaping their nostrils and ruffing the fur on their snout. There was a click inside their body as they trotted behind Arrow, clearly striding with purpose and no intention of leaving him.
"If you've been through this- why not accept the help of a fellow amputee this time around, to change things up."

Jackalope shook their head leisurely, the movement barely noticeable."I didn't ask if you can handle it. I asked if it hurts- theres important difference, isn't there?"
Their huge form circled Arrow for a second, checking on the injuries on all sides, while they spoke with a voice that was meant to read out lullabies somewhere safe, far from here. "I can accompany you to mechanics when we will be released. Hopefully, no one will bother you with me along your side- quite literally, if you won't mind. The less pressure put on the remaining legs, the better."

Jacks entire body shifted when the fight was officially over. Their spiky, bloodied fur seemed to settle down on their body and their snarl was replaced by an expression of calm that seemed out of place. You did not answer my question.

Instead, they settled on the simplest of things- "Thank you." Then, they slipped past them and crouched down on their front legs, making a move to nudge Arrow with their nose but then thinking better of it and retracting.
"Can I help you in any way? I don't want to hurt you more than you already are."

Metal scraped painfully against the floor as Jackalope made a sharp turn, leaving the mangled form of an unfamiliar dog behind them.

But it was just a torn scruff. Nothing like the scene they saw in front of them now. "Permanently damage a trainee and the replacement might have to come from you".
They growled, the deep sound shaking their entire body as they made their way closer through the bloodbath to the two mechanical beasts. "Gentlefolks, you both have several seconds to explain the situation. Try not to make it as is looks like."

I Serve Only The Organization!

Arwen

Name:Jackalope

Breed: Irish Wolfhound

Gender: Not-Binary (They/Them)

Appearance:

This picture doesn't properly translate just how giant Wolfhounds are- Jack is outranking most of the dogs and wolfs in The Organization with terrifying heigh of 84 centimeters (33 inches). If they stood on her hind legs, they would be 7 feet tall.

Personality: Jackalope is a living embodiment of an homely fireplace- off to the corner, offering warmth and love to those who decide to stick around, no matter who they might have, are or will be. Younger canines naturally flock to their paternal energy... But the occasional snappy sparks exist. They are usually targetted at male wolves wolfs, who Jack is especially wary of.

They might be a little bit cryptic, but what else do you expect in this environment. They sing sometimes for themselves and those who listen- The guards mostly let them due do their effectiveness.
But alongside turning a deaf ear to the backtalks of their fellow canines, that's where their little rebellion ends.

They have been in this facility for three years now and they are known to be one of the most compliant canines around, with no hitch in the record as of yet and Advanced Freedom in their paws. Calling them loyal doesn't feel right, but her successes surely paint that picture.

Age: ★ 5,4 years. (Wolfhounds are staring to become elderly at this age, but due to Jacks modifications, it can be translated to merely 37 human years- the equivalent of three Wolfhound years.)

Backstory: Three years ago, before the organization spread into their homeland, Jack and their two sons lived in a pack of mixed street animals known among the townsfolk as "Train Hoppers".
The pack itself didn't follow the usual hierarchy and could be described as more democratical than humans ever managed to be.

They held the streets safe, settling disputes, guarding cattle and patrolling kids, in return for scraps and the occasional addition of a soft surface to their den. The business-like relationship of the townsfolk and animals was almost sacred.

Dogs soo smart and of the strong build were bound to be used someday. The Organisation gathered information about a few particular dogs before raiding their den mercilessly- Jackalope was chosen to be transferred to the base and trained for their outstanding agility and size.
Its commonly believed among the scientists that they might be one of the closest links to the extinct and superior version of Wolfhounds.

Ever since the family entered the compound, they displayed remarkable curiosity and interest in what the humans had planned for them. Perhaps, it was a tactic to suppress the memories of the bloodshed that took place.

Their training showed huge progress and as long as they were allowed to meet during the breaks, the separation too didn't pose any obstacle.
Truly, the only downfall of that time was the fact that despite the experiments and surgeries, Jackalope never became pregnant with more puppies. To this day, the scientists still didn't get a firm grasp on their reproductive system.

But as time went on, some sort of strange... attachments plagued their second-born son, Colpach. He favored one scientist amongst them all, followed her around as if he was a small puppy again and seemingly lost all thinking in her proximity, to the point that even his older, blind brother Kirin took notice.

During one break, Colpach told his family that the scientist wants to be a part of their pack and will take them back home tonight. He was met with skepticism, with Jackalope outright against it, seeing this as The Organisation testing them. They thought that was settled and left to their respective holding cells, unknowing they will never see each other again.

Colpach led the blind Kirin through the wrong corridors that night, right into the hands of his dearly cherished ally. If you hope that he at least spared a thought for his parent then hold it, I like your version better anyway.
At that moment, the boundless love Colpach felt for his human could only be matched by Kirins outrage. An alarm was raised.
That day, an unruly escapee and traitor were terminated and a particularly loyal canine rewarded by the termination of a different kind.

After the event, Jackalope has been held in solidarity confinement for a week. When they then joined the others, it was like nothing ever happened- Surely, that means they were holding up well. No questions were asked.

★ Since then, Jackalope has been a succesful subject and excellent workhorse for The Organization.
They often joined Mechs in their patrols, volunteered for missions (Especially in colder climates, which not every dog can handle) and have also been called numerous times to discipline the pups taken into the base before they are given over to Mechs to train.

Since the influx of wolves, serious work for dogs has become harder to come by- they are happy to lend their paw anywhere they can, just to have something to do.

Kin: Kirin (Firstborn son, Turned)
Colpach (Secondborn son, deceased.)

Crush: None, open

Sexual Orientation: Asexual and Panromantic

Any Robotic Parts: Yes, all their paws and several internal modifications- especially in the heart and vertebrae, elongating their lifespan, general stamina and cushioning the jump landings.

Some additional replacements suggest that the scientists were at one point working on Jackalope to be Turned.
★The most significant of those changes are connected to Jacks patrol career- they are able to send signals to mechs, which will inform the mechanical dogs of their location. (They had to periodically send them out when they went patrolling alone)
If things go awry, they can let out a mechanic roar that can carry great distances and will alert nearby mechs that further (violent) assistance is needed.
