"Right." Locke nodded. He opened up his account and started the process of a transfer. "Err... do I wire this to Halsey's account or... what?" he asked, looking at Sliuril. "I'm surprised you go around saying stuff like that." Dutch said. "How do you afford it?"
"Please. I have ten years worth of back-pay."
"What?"
"Hey, the military feeds me, clothes me and gives me a bunk to sleep on. I haven't claimed a single payday yet. I'm just letting it gather in a private account that I opened a backdoor to so I can access it when needed." Locke explained. "You're strange." Dutch said. "Where's your house?"
"It's more of a complex. Built into the side of a cliff. Did I ever mention I took up a few assassination contracts in my free time?"

Locke shuddered and decided to take Soren's advice. "Do we have any idea when we get there?" Dutch asked. "Or am I gonna be waved off with a 'we get there when we-"
"Twenty credits to whoever says 'we get there when we get there'!" Locke shouted. "Unless you're a dragon and don't use credits. In that case, you'll get to annoy Dutch and earn a small amount of respect."
"I hate you so much."

"Whatever." Locke muttered, removing his helmet and downing the potion. He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, grimaced and started coughing. "What the hell was in that thing?" he did his best to shout through clenched teeth. Dutch raised an eyebrow as Locke thrust the empty vial at him, but took the small glass bottle nevertheless. He bought it up to eye level to examine it.
Locke, meanwhile, had replaced his helmet after drinking half a bottle of water. "Disgusting." he muttered, shaking his head.

Locke took it and eyed it suspiciously. “Err… can I get a full list of ingredients for this? And is there any for Glaurug?” he asked. “Damn it.” Dutch muttered. “I would’ve drunk it all before asking the second question.”

Locke glanced at Sliuril as she appeared. "Oh, great. Now, can we terminate the conversation and pretend we were talking about something else?" he asked. "Such as...uhh... dead bunnies?" he added, looking inquisitively at Faith. "Why would we be talking about dead... oh." Dutch said. "Well, I find all small four legged furry animals rather nice. They make a great base for most potions and I, personally, rather enjoy the-"
"Please, shut the hell up." Locke said.
"You're the one who brought it up."
"I wish I hadn't. Let's talk about dead Warden Eternals instead."
"Oh, right." Dutch turned to Sliuril. "We got attacked by the Warden Eternal who said we couldn't enter or whatever, so we attacked and killed him."
"I blame Glaurug." Locke said.
"I second that." Jack nodded.
"Same." Dutch raised his hand.

"Is he dead yet?" Dutch asked. "Hell no. But I don't think he'll be giving us too much trouble from now." Locke replied. "I wonder how Sliuril and Faith are getting on." Jack muttered.
"You know, you never told us why they went." Dutch said.
"Nor do I intend to."
"It was worth a shot." Dutch said to himself.
"It really... really wasn't." Jack muttered, shaking his head.

Jack fired the vortex spell at the Warden while Dutch unleashed a storm of machine gun fire on the construct. Locke stepped back a bit to make sure he didn't get caught in the crossfire. "Uhhh... so what happened to his ability to summon several different bodies all connected to one mind?" he asked, looking over his shoulder

“Glaurug, if it wouldn’t damage your ego too much, could you please fall back so the rest of us have a clear shot?” Jack growled, charging up a vortex spell. “Yeah, don’t mind the fact that in the time you’ve disengaged and started moving back here, the Warden might’ve split your head open like an egg. Honestly. Not a consideration.” Dutch muttered.
“Don’t make me bite-ummm-beat you up.” Locke stammered.

"I mean, by Glaurug engaging him in a fight, the decision has already been made, hasn't it?" Locke sighed. "You guys just go ahead and kill him, I-I have a pistol." he waved the useless sidearm in the air.
Dutch looked around, decided that there was nothing for it and started shooting at the Warden, trying only slightly less than his utmost best to not shoot Glaurug. Jack hung back, not wanting to kill any of his allies in a particularly fiery death.

"Right. Okay." Locke nodded. "I notice you said 'should not', not 'can not' or 'may not' or any other iteration of those words. Hence, I acknowledge I should not enter and I will proceed to enter. Will that be a problem?" he asked. "Because I'd love to settle this without a shootout."
"Warden Eternal?" Dutch asked Locke over the externally silent COM.
"Yeah."
"I'm assuming it's not the Warden Eternal."
"Ask John."
"Dammit."
Jack looked at the construct and tilted his head. "Would it help if I were to say they're with me? And him, for that matter." he glanced over at Glaurug.

"Hey, it's complicated." Dutch assured Soren. Locke rolled his eyes. "Right. Okay. Is this loaded?" he handed a pistol to Dutch. He ejected the clip and pretended to examine the contents."It's comp-"
"Y'know, I only need one arm to pound you into the ground."
"Sorry."Dutch quickly slapped the clip back in and passed the back.

"Hmm. It's not everyday you see Elites fleeing. For anything." Locke nodded. "Right. So... the evil dude's calling the shots now?" Dutch asked, looking at Jack. "I'm merely making sure you don't wander from the path... or die. Which one should I prioritise first, again?" he asked.
"Make sure we don't die. Path comes second." Locke replied
"It was rhetorical."
"You need a lesson in phrasing rhetorical questions."
"You might not have noticed, but Order Common was a language I didn't have much use of until recently."
"I love how she left us with the crankier of the two dragons." Dutch said.
Jack ignored them and continued walking.

"Of course." Jack nodded. "The Crawler is relentless, but smart. He won't strike yet. But I fear for the Aurorans. They, more than anyone else, know how to fight the Crawler and his Shadows. He will make a point of destroying them before proceeding with any other plans. As for the ones guarding the ship... do what you can."
Locke looked at Sliuril and Jack, unable to hear anything. "I think something's up." Dutch whispered. "I know." Locke said. "But if they don't want to share it, they have a good reason. Let it slide."
Dutch sniffed. "I'm guessing I don't get a say in the 'don't pester them for information' decision?"
"No, you don't."
"Thanks. You're always so thoughtful." Dutch turned to Glaurug. "Any idea what's going on?"

Jack nodded and erected the ward. He ensured that it was fully raised and only he and Sliuril were included in it before he spoke. "The people guarding the ship. They shall die soon, though Death promises not today. While in themselves insignificant, I fear it may cause the others affiliated with Order to become... reckless. Beyond that, there is a greater problem."
He paused for a moment to gather his words.
"You remember the creature that invaded this world during King Logan's rule? Defeated by the Hero of Brightwall? It is back on this plane of reality, having taken over one of the Knights. And, if were to guess, I'd say he has once again taken up residence in the desert lands of Aurora, biding his time and gathering his strength. We shall have to confront him before the Shadows encase the land once more."

(Subtly opens up alternative plot routes/continuations.)

"Is that all you will require to defeat them?"
"Yes. Make sure it's untraceable."
"..."
"Dude, how hard can it be?"
"Never refer to me as 'dude' again. You'll get your resupply by the end of the week."
"Understood."
"Command out."
"Locus and Felix, signing off."

Dutch frowned. “You drop that massive bombshell and then tell us to wait? Now THAT’S bull-”
“You’ll get your chance, simmer the f**k down.” Locke growled.
Dutch sighed and didn’t carry the argument forward. Still, he was finding it hard to be patient. He grumbled something.
“Speak up soldier, it sounds like you’re talking from your armpit.” Locke said. “When do we get there?” Dutch asked.
“Why?”
“So I can make sure that we, or at least YOU, don’t get there in time.”
Locke laughed. “It sounds like you want me to turn into a Balvarine.”
“Right now? I’d take any excuse to empty a clip into you.”
“Glaurug, take notes. If I die in my sleep, you know who to blame.”
The two lapsed into silence. Jack decided he might as well return to The Void for a moment. Without asking Sliuril, he opened a portal and walked through. For every hour in The Void, only a few seconds would pass on this plane of reality.
He portal put him down in front of the Hollow Keep, back in his humanoid form. It looked similar to a human medieval fort, though that was simply an illusion. The wall in front of him was solid, with no apparent entrances.
Immediately, the two Knights of Blades, at what Jack assumed to be the location of the gates, drew their swords. Jack was fully aware that a single Knight would be sufficient to repel an invading army. The physical appearance, which was infinitely changeable, we humanoid figures fully clad in suits of armor that closely resembled those of the Archons, the Old Kings. They were twice as tall as Jack and twice as wide, wielding swords that were identical to the Sword of Aeons, though not nearly as powerful.
A moment of recognition passed between them. “Jack.” they echoed. The gates appeared and then slowly opened to allow him in. Now that the gates were open, he could teleport inside. He immediately teleported to The Court.
There was only one person present in the vast room.
“Brother Jack.”
“Death.”
The figure turned around to look at him. Death looked much like how everyone imagined him to be, possibly for that very reason. A tall, hooded, skeltal figure with a massive scythe in his left hand.
“The Court has not convened?”
“The Court convening is a mere formality. I’m sure they are present.”
Jack understood. The Court was in this very room, but chose to remain hidden from both him and Death.
“I’m glad I caught you. The group I travel with…”
“The humans… all the ones referred to as the Freelancers and Blood Gulch Operatives. However, as you and Sliuril are present with the others, I can not say with any degree of certainty. You know I can not speak for Immortals.”
Jack nodded. No matter.
And still… they were important, in their own way. The war needed to end. They were all part of the key. “Name your price.”
Death laughed, a deep, hollow laugh. The unidentifiable source of illumination for the room suddenly went out. “Don’t tell me you’ve grown to care for them.”
“I care for what I can use.” Jack said, holding out the Soul Mask. Death touched it and it was done.
“They will not die. Not today. But soon. I cannot delay my agenda forever.”
Jack nodded. “Any other news. What of the Corruptor?” Death hesitated for a moment. “Brother. One of the Knights was Corrupted. He has taken up one of the Old Titles, the Crawler, and become on of the Corruptor's lieutenants. The King is under the impression that the Crawler roams the planet where you came from once more. How busy the following months promise to be.”
“Thank you for the information. I take my leave.”
Jack opened another portal and exited The Void. He returned to the Order-Chaos plane of reality as a dragon once more and exactly where he had left it.
“Sliuril. I’m sure you know, but I have bad news.”

“Right.” Dutch nodded. Locke nodded as well. Immortality wasn’t too appealing to him. But magic… that he could use. He didn’t doubt that Dutch wanted to go all the way, but that was his problem.
“Right.” Dutch repeated. “Control. How does that work?” he asked. “Your auto-respond-auto-send is on, right? You should be glad that we have no contact with High Command right now. Otherwise, you’d have just spammed the entire Control net.” Locke frowned. Dutch’s eyes widened as he realized his mistake. “Sorry.”
“Tell that to the squads you just hypothetically got killed.”
Jack looked at them, arguing again. “Five years. You certainly have high hopes for them.” he glanced at Sliuril. Then he drifted off into his own thoughts for a minute. Finally, Jack tuned back into Locke and Dutch’s argument.
“-and he’d be inclined to hypothetically strangle you. I mean him. Hypothetically.” Dutch was saying.
Locke sniffed and said nothing. Apparently a valid point had just been made.
“Back to control.” he said, looking at Sliuril, while Dutch turned his ARAS off.

Locke nodded. "What makes you think we'd want to?" he muttered. "I dunno. Seems pretty neat." Dutch replied. "Then, clearly, you stopped listening at 'immortal'." Locke snapped back. Jack huffed. "Yes, it is not nearly as fun as it looks." he said. "Can you imagine listening to her for at least five thousand years? The idea is enough to send most people scrambling for cover." Locke continued. "No offence."
"Who made these rules?" Dutch asked. "I mean, sure, a person can be grateful. 'Hey, thanks for making me live forever!' But, seriously, how much s**t can you have that it takes five thousand years to take care of it?"
"That's the problem with being immortal. It doesn't mean that all of life's problems just end. For example, say I became immortal right now. Doesn't mean that I'm not gonna be a Balvarine at midnight. An immortal Balvarine with a chance of becoming human again, yes, but a Balvarine all the same." Locke explained. "But say I had an immortal I could order about. I'd be able to send them to clear out the place so I can get to the bloody temple, that ensures I won't turn into a Balvarine, unhindered. Then I'd get them to heal the arm and possibly pull me out of the next s**tstorm I get into, which will probably be something like 'why are all the Balvarines dead?'. See? One thing leads to another."
"Right." Dutch nodded. He turned to Sliuril. "About that magic training."

“Oh, I love it when people tell me stuff I’m not supposed to know and then suffer the consequences. Go on. Tell me. I won’t tell anyone else, promise.” Locke tried to pass off his curiosity as a joke, making a big show of pushing Dutch away. Dutch rolled his eyes.
Jack glanced at Sliuril and shrugged as if to say ‘your world, your neck’.
In fact, Locke had managed to scrape together quite a few things from the conversation, none of them overly useful. “You, of all people, should know that SPARTANs don’t like stuff being kept from them.” Dutch looked at Sliuril. Locke immediately turned to look at him. “What’re you going to do about it, have a tantrum? It’s her choice. And, whatever she choses, we respect that.” he said in a tone that clearly added ‘as we’ll figure it out in the end anyway, we always do’.

Locke raised an eyebrow, searched for the translation software and didn't find it. He tried it anyway and was surprised to find that his armour translated without any traceable program. "That's new. Anyway, I can see where you're coming from." he nodded. "Hmm." Dutch agreed.
Jack tilted his head to a side and gave his opinion in the Ancient Language. "To kill them would be simple enough for me, as, officially, I owe my loyalties to Discord." he snorted at the last part. He owed his loyalty to no one except, perhaps, The Court. Even that was arguable, as there were no blood ties. "Nobody in Order would be able to question me."
"That's a bit forward, isn't it? I mean, it is common knowledge that you're tagging along with this little group for the moment." Locke pointed out. "Oh, and I think Naomi's getting suspicious." Dutch added, looking over his shoulder.

"When are we going to make a move? It's just three people." Felix whispered.
"The SPARTANs will be easy. But you're forgetting that Sliuril, if she became aware, wouldn't even have to exert herself to turn us into green and orange dust. And, lets assume that, by some miracle-"
"Or airstrike."
"we can defeat her in a straight out fight, we still have that bloody devoted dragon to worry about." Locus said.
"What about the other dragon?" Felix asked.
"Jack. I don't think he'll mind too much. He doesn't seem to be very interested in the affairs of this universe. He comes from another dimension, remember?"
"Still, he seems to take orders from the elf."
"I don't this he takes orders. I think that, most of the time, it's difficult to argue against Sliuril's reasoning."
"Sliuril... all our problems come back to her."
"Right. Especially as we don't have a way to eliminate her permanently. We wait until she's vulnerable. Then we remove her from the equation, if only temporarily. The rest will be child's play."
"Right."
"Right. Oh, and one last thing. Command wants us to preserve our bonds with Concord and Discord if possible. As I'm supposedly working with Chaos, I'll have to do the SPARTANs, and the Blood Gulch Operatives, Freelancers and anyone else from Order if things get messy."
"Fine by me."
"You'll have to try to do Sliuril and Faith. And, if he does end up caring, you'll have to do Jack.
"S**t."
