"That's impossible, I-" she meets his gaze and her pupils immediately dilate as a long forgotten memory is suddenly brought up.

"You have a very unique power...." The voice sounded distant. It was hard to interpret- it sounded like she was underwater. "So why don't you use it?" She falls onto the ground and immediately starts coughing up water before taking desperate gasps of fresh air. A boy, she realized she knew him, an older cousin, stands in front of her. "This sparring match is lame" he says with a sigh. "You aren't even trying."
"Again!" Maci challenges, as she stands up on wobbly legs.
"No way, I'm afraid I'll hurt you" the boy replies.
"Again!" Maci repeats much more forcefully. The boy sighs and rolls his eyes. He extends a hand and a giant bubble of water floats towards her. The water was black while the outer edge of the bubble was a dark purple. It was pretty to look at, but dangerous to be in. It was easy to suffocate. Suddenly, the bubble disintegrates, the small pieces that hit Maci don't cause any damage. "Your moves are too predictable for me, again." Maci urges. Both her and her cousin smirk at eachother with a challenging look. The real match was just about to begin.

Maci gasps at the memory. She takes a fearful step backwards- away from Phenix. Although she wasn't afraid of him specifically. "I remember now!" She says at a near whisper. "I could cancel attacks!" She looks at him with an exciting look. "I can't believe it... I can't believe I actually had such a strong power" Still, one question kept ringing in her head: What had actually happened that made her lose her power? All she could remember was being sick. But surely a strong power like hers wouldn't disappear due to a sickness.

"I'm sorry for you loss" Maci repeats. "Your sister seemed very brave, I just know if she were alive today she would've done a lot of good for the world." She glances over at his wrist and memorizes the name on it. Maybe if she got the chance, she could lead Phenix to him and allow him to get his revenge. She shakes her head at his last question. "All I want to do is survive and make it back to the man I love." This wasn't exactly the truth. She would love to be like Phenix's sister and destroy the Capitol. "If I had the strength and the power, I would take this opportunity to destroy the Capitol. Lucky for them, I've grown weak, I haven't even had an ability since I was young. I don't even remember what it was" she admits.

Questions ring in Maci's head. Did something happen to his sister? What else happened in that memory? Did something happen that changed his power? Did it have something to do with his sister? She keeps quiet, not wanting to push it. She turns away, knowing that he probably didn't want her to see him break apart. "I'm sorry" is all she says, although it's unclear what she is saying sorry for. "Maybe you can still use your powers for good. Something must be holding you back?"

"That sounds horrible." Suddenly Maci feels bad about her earlier comment. Even if these people wanted to see her dead, did they deserve this much torment? Maci wasn't totally sure. "That's a very dangerous power you yield" she adds softly. She quiets down to listen to the other music. Her body swaying slightly with the melody. She smiles to herself, remembering the evenings her and Jaxon spent dancing to music. It was one of the few things that truly made her feel alive. This music felt like home. All she was missing was Jaxon.

"Very impressive" Maci says to the first part. She would've done the same if she were in that position. She glances at him with a look full of respect. It falters slightly at the last part. She snorts at the last part in disgust and returns her gaze to the city. "I'm not about to feel sorry for them. I'd rather live a life full of competition rather than a life filled with struggling." She didn't want to put herself in their shoes, especially since they wanted to see her die. It's hard to feel sorry for people like that. But she keeps that thought to herself. "You mentioned something about their minds and attacking a citizen from the train? Are you some sort of crazy mind reader or something?" She asks with a laugh. "You don't need to answer that of course, that information could be dangerous... Whatever it is, that sounds like an amazing power. Although I hope you put it into good use and continue to attack the real threats."

Meeting his gaze with a disappointed look, she shakes her head no. "Perhaps you could request one?" She asks with a grin. "Afterall, we seem to be royalty around here." She rolls her eyes and returns her gaze to the city below. "It's sickening that we are being celebrated to be brought to our deaths. These people are truly mad." She clenches her fists, once again feeling the urge to destroy the Capitol, but she knew that that was impossible to do alone, especially for the likes of her.

"You seem to really love music" Maci tells Phenix. "I actually recognize that song... Für Elise is it?" Maci asks, tilting her head a bit. "You managed to catch the tune perfectly. It's beautiful." She speaks quietly, both wanting to talk to him but also not disturb him.

Maci wasn't sure how long she sat on her balcony. It could've been a few minutes, it could've been an hour. Heck, one could convince her that it's been days. The wind was starting to make her cold. But she welcomed the feeling. It was a nice distraction. She stands up and wipes her eyes one more time. That's when she notices it, a flash of crimson on the corner of her eye.
She glances to her right, noticing a tribute on the balcony next to hers. She lowers her gaze to the streets shyly, and listens to his whistling. She was tempted to ask if he was whistling a certain song, but she didn't want to bother him.

Both Zahara and Maci had fixed Snow with a withering gaze. They doubt Snow would care, they knew he wouldn't even remember their faces. But at the moment, it felt great to glare at the person behind all of their suffering.
As the wind hits Maci's dress the freed fabric lifts up, it almost gives her the illusion of having wings. The crowd seems awed by her dress and her heart lifts for a moment. She can't hide her smile and it almost disgusted her. She shouldn't be happy to have the crowd react positively towards her. She was nothing to them. Still, she had to admit that she enjoyed being looked at with awe, rather than pity. But this feeling quickly ends once the parade finishes.
......
Zahara roams around the halls mindlessly. She was munching on candy and watching each tribute enter their rooms. She made a mental note of all the couples. It would be important to avoid them, or at least stay on their good side. She wouldn't be able to manipulate both couples.
With that in mind, she enters her room to clean off her makeup and put on a more normal outfit. She goes straight to bed after that.
.......
Maci wasn't allowed to enter her room right away. She was lead to another room where she would be given another dose of medicine. She didn't want to take it. She knew she wouldn't be able to sleep.
To pass the time she walks out onto the balcony and stares off into the streets. She had yet to take off her dress and makeup. Her mind wanders and goes straight to the problem at hand. She imagines being in the Arena and every possible way she could die. Every possible way Shiloh could die.
She brings a hand onto her face, muffling her sobs. Why did it have to be this way? How would she ever make it back to Jax? This is unfair! She thinks to herself. I wish the Capitol would just blow up under my feet! She lowers herself into a sitting position. She draws her knees up to her chest and wraps her arms around her legs. The wind was hitting her face, which helped dry her tears. Still, she had to look up at the stary sky and blink a few times to stop the flow of tears and take a few calming deep breaths. It was too early to feel helpless. She couldn't give up, not yet. She needed to get back to Jaxon. If he was willing to risk his life for her, then she could do the same for him. "You are strong, stronger than you think." Jaxon's words remind her. It gives her the strength she needs.

Zahara grins at her reflection. She was wearing a large pink dress, the shade slightly lighter than her hair color. It was incredibly poofy. Zahara wondered if this was someone's wedding dress and it was put in a washing machine with red shirts by accident. Her hair was left as it was. Pink eyeshadow was placed on her eyelids and pink gemstones were placed under her eye. The gems started out small, but got larger after each one. The smallest gemstone sat near her nose. Her lips, you guessed it, were covered in pink gloss. The final touch was pink gloves that ran up to her elbows and a pink and gold tiara. Zahara was pretty much a giant pink blob.
Upon request, she sat on a black carriage where she could easily stand out.
.........
Maci sits in a different carriage. She was faddling with the ring again and glancing around nervously. She didn't like so many eyes on her, so many cameras around. What if another wave of sickness came? It was bad enough that a few tributes already knew how weak she was.
She glances down at her lap, not wanting to look at herself on the giant TVs that were around. Her hair was curled, which Maci hated, she liked her hair the way it was before. They had tried to make her eyes more defined by adding eyeliner and dark eyeshadow. Maci didn't think it worked. She wore a dress that opened slightly at the legs. Gold designs lined the opening. Fabric was wrapped around her arms and the back of the dress was longer than the front. When the wind hit her correctly it caused her hair and the longer fabric to float behind her.
Her stylist had been awed by his work. He kept calling her his "little swan." Upon seeing her reflection, she didn't see a huge change. She was actually disappointed by how she looked. There wasn't much she could do about this though.

Maci wasn't about to argue with Lifei. She allows her to guide her back to her seat. She was quite surprised by her eagerness to help, she didn't seem like the type.
"Excuse me." A Peacekeeper says, walking into the train. "I'm looking for a miss Lam." Maci doesn't need to reply, it's obvious that she is the person in question. The Peacekeeper walks across the train and opens up a first aid. "It's been brought to our attention that your health is detrimental. We don't want you dying on us before the Games start. We are going to be giving you your needed medicine until the arena opens up." Maci doesn't reply. She winces slightly from the cold alcohol swab on her arm, but doesn't react to the needle. Once the medicine is in her system and her wound is patched up by a cotton ball and tape, the Peacekeeper leaves with a promise of returning in six hours.
Maci couldn't help but feel worthless. Why was the Capitol so focused on keeping her here? What was she to them? An easy kill to tempt more blood spill? She grits her teeth, feeling a sudden urge to punch a wall. She felt disgusted by the Capitol.

Maci laughs at this and shakes her head. "No, I don't need to go to the bathroom." She replies. "I just need to rest for a moment, don't worry about me." She didn't like this attention, didn't like that everyone was seeing her weakness, especially now that she had to be strong so that her and Shiloh could survive. She stands up, somehow she doesn't fall on her face. Deep breaths, don't faint Maci keeps telling herself. "See? I'm fine" she assures Alana.

"That's okay, we'll figure something out." Maci tells Shiloh kindly. She shuts her eyes, desperate to shake away this spell. She manages to hear Alana, she sucks in a pained breath before responding. "I'm fine" Maci lies. Although it was clear that she wasn't. She had gotten pale and she feeling dizzy and nauseated, even though she was sitting down.
....
"Always!" Zahara responds happily. She accepts the lollipop without hesitation and skips around the train excitedly. "I can't wait! I can't wait!" She chants. "I'm going to show all of them just how wonderful I am~!"

"No reason to be afraid of them" Zahara says with an eyeroll. "I mean, they probably freak out by a simple speck of dirt falling on their outfit. They know nothing about hardships." She clenches her fists and glares at them. "We should be looking down on them instead of fearing them. They should fear us!"
...
Maci's hands were staring to tremble, but not out of fear. She sits down, suddenly feeling faint. Not now Maci internally begs. She was hoping the medicine she had today would last longer. But she was already starting to feel the effects of her sickness. She takes deep breaths and starts to wonder when it'll become difficult to even do that. The Capitol will supply medicine to me... Right?

"Hmm, maybe manipulation doesn't make a great alliance, but it's still good enough to avoid being their target." She opens up her eyes, they narrow slightly as she gazes at the both. "Underestimate? I don't care about that. If they somehow best me then I deserve to die." She doesn't respond to Lifei, mainly because she isn't sure what to say.
....
Both Zahara and Maci look out the window in wonder they are both obviously intruded and confused by the mass of people.

Zahara doesn't bother hiding her confusion. Her eyebrow is raises and her mouth is hanging open slightly in disbelief. "Huh?" She asks. "I'm just going to assume you are complementing me" Zahara replies with a grin. "Thank you for that." She pops the lollipop in her mouth and shuts her eyes lazily

"Illusions? We can make plenty of use out of that. But I hear you." She smiles again at a familiar memory. "Jaxon has always done the same for me. I don't know what I would do without him." Like Shiloh, she hasn't had many interactions with other people. Other than her parents, her doctor, and Jaxon. It felt nice to talk to a girl around her age. "Two heads are always better than one. I'm sure we'll both find a way to survive." She pauses again, looking deep in thought. She couldn't help herself, she already wanted to formulate a plan. "What can you do with your illusions? As long as we have enough food and water we can simply hide. Can you trick others into thinking we aren't in a certain spot?"
....
Zahara glances up at the two. Her plate was nearly empty and her movements were slowing down, a sign that she was quickly getting full. Her body tenses up and she leans over the food. She curls her lip, looking almost animal-like as she tried to protect her food. She relaxes when she realizes that's it's just Echo and Li Fei. Even better, they were presenting her with candy.

Catiously, she reaches a hand out to grab the lollipop. "Interact?" She asks. "Now why should I do that? If I want to form an alliance with someone, all I gotta do change their behavior. It's amazing what one can do just by forcing others to smile" She yawns and puts the plate on the floor. She stretches out on the bench. Her back was resting against the wall and her legs were stretched out onto the bench. She takes her time unwrapping the lollipop, enjoying the awkward silence. "Why aren't you guys interacting with others? I hear that there are sooo many people here." She parrots with a smirk.

"I would love to work with you. Especially since we share a common goal." She sighs and leans her head back so that it's resting on the bench. "Unfortunately, I don't know how much help I'll be. I-" she sits back up and leans in close, so that nobody can overhear her. "I don't have an ability." She whispers. "I like to think that I'm smart though, I've had a lot of time to read multiple books. But let's be real, when it comes to brain versus brawn, I'll put my money on the brawn." Her shoulders tense up, her expression becomes filled with worry. What if Shiloh decides to leave this alliance? She wouldn't blame her, there isn't a lot that Maci can do.

Maci's eyes soften at the first statement Shiloh shows her. She drops her gaze, looking down at the floor. "Yeah, me too" she agrees. She glances up just in time to catch the next question. This question brings a smile to her face. "Well, I don't want to reveal too much, but I don't think it'll really matter. It's a gift from my boyfriend, he gave it to me four years ago on our first anniversary." She holds a hand out so that Shiloh could see it.
The diamonds, which are probably fake form a heart in the engraving of the ring. There is a simple statement on the inside of the ring: love you forever. Jaxon had the matching pair. She smiles at the memory of when he gave it to her. She imagines the hours of work he must've done at his father's workshop to be able to afford it. "He promised we'd be together forever and that he would properly propose once I overcome my illness." Her smile fades away slightly. She had never gotten better, probably never would. Yet Jaxon still stood by her side. It was obvious that he loved her, it almost hurt. She appreciated his love, but she knew all it would do is ultimately bring him pain. "He's the best" she whispers.

It was totally unexpected, Maci hadn't expected someone to approach her, especially this quickly. She smiles at the girl. She hated to admit it, but she felt relieved to have someone approach her. She needed an alliance, but she wasn't the most sociable person. She curiously glances at the note, silently mouthing the words out loud.
"Hi!" She responds shyly, "I'm Maci." She had wanted to ask Shiloh why she couldn't ask that question. Was she mute? She resists the urge, not wanting to scare her off. She fights for something to say and finds herself holding the ring again, rubbing it between her thumb and pointer finger. This was her nervous habit. "So, this kinda sucks, how do you feel about being chosen?" She asks. She laughs at the question and shakes her head. "I'm sorry, that's probably the worst question to ask right now, the answer is probably obvious. I'm not the best at this. Do you want to sit down? You look nervous" She bites her tongue, realizing that she was talking too fast and talking too much.
