i really like your colours! one thing, though: the original image had a lot of orange in it. the colour of the caterpie was closer to a yellow green rather than the really saturated green that you have now. i do like the green though- maybe try to layer a transparent yellow/orange on top and then go from there? that would create a good sense of depth. also, the little snout (?) on its face- actually all of the lines, but this is the most noticeable- should be coloured, not black. black lines are good when doing things like the pokeball or sprites, but in an actually painting like this, it looks much more natural to have coloured lines. they can also be helpful for showing light, i.e. on the edge of a sphere or right below the second segment on the caterpie.
