Redwood shook his hand. "Good to meet you. Both of ya. We're you sent in as support after us, or were you already stationed here?" He asked.

The King nodded again. "Greed, you say. And he is dead. Well then. I shall get Death to make him an offer he can't refuse. Thank you, Sliuril. And Jack. You have your power. Use it wisely and look after the humans." The King opened a portal. "Oh, and Sliuril." He looked from her to Jack and back. "Look after him ." Jack's eyes flared in anger and he looked like he was about to say something, but the King was already gone.

Sarge hesitated. If a SPARTAN was telling him to lower the gun, there had to be a good reason.
"Ease up." Redwood said to his squad.

"Hmm. The King nodded at the answer. "As you know, I can not stay for long. Time passes much quicker in my world. In times like these, it is a tremendous risk to leave for even a second. It must have been several hours back there by now. Before I depart, I have one last question. Is the one who did this still alive? They could prove to be a powerful ally."
Jack looked down at his feet, allowing Sliuril to continue explainig.

The King nodded. "Sliuril." he acknowledged.
Then he looked at the ongoing battle and narrowed his eyes. With a simple wave of his hand, the Shadows dissolved. "Those pests..." he muttered. He turned back to Sliuril. "What happened to the others in your group?" he asked. Jack felt slightly insulted that the King had not asked him, but didn't say anything.
There was a sound of guns cocking.
"Well, they're dead." Jack thought.
"Hey, buddy,we're all a little new here. I'd like some introductions. From all off you." Sarge said, his gun raised. His squad had done the same. The King ignored them.

As he made a jump towards where he had earlier detected the creature, Jack slipped into the Void.

He landed inside the throne room in his humanoid form, already on his knees and his head bowed. When he looked up, the King of Blades was sitting on a throne, the Queen besides him.
The throne was strangely plain, a high backed stone seat with arm rests. It had been forged to ensure that no one may sit upon it comfortably.
The King himself was a ferocious figure. His mask was similar to Jack's other than the fact that there was a row of sharp, interlocking teeth stretching fom one side to the other in a dangerous smile. His build was somewhat bulkier than Jack's.

"My King." Jack bowed again. "Jack." The King nodded. "It has been a long time. I was beginning to fear that you had grown fond of the realm you had been sent to protect." He rasped.
"The realm is unstable, King, but that is not the reason of my visit."
"Pray tell, why have you graced us with your presence."
Jack sighed. "I require the power to switch between my dragon and my human form at will."
There was a silence. The King stood up.
"You ask for a powerful magic. One I had to fight or centuries to obtain." The King himself flickered between his dragon and human forM as he approached Jack. A dark shadow with blazing red eyes filled the hall for a moment but then quickly changed back to the King. "Why should it be surrendered so easily?"
"My King. The fallen Knight. I have located him. I shall require full use of the Sword if I am to have any chance of defeating him."
The King looked at him.
"I shall have to see this for myself."
With that they both disappeared from the hall.

Jack landed on the ground in his human form. Then, there was a moment of dread when he realised there was a hand on his chest, not allowing to go any further.
The King had come with him.
"You have your human form. The Knight can wait. Let us go back to your group."
"My King." Jack nodded.
They turned around and walked back the way Jack had come.

	Jack looked at the humans. They seemed like they could handle themselves for a while. He cast one last powerful spell, a shield spell, on the humans and left the fight in pursuit of the creature. "Where the hell is he going? " Marlowe asked. "Don't know , don't care." Sarge replied. [Read more]

Jack closed his eyes and focused on what his mind told him. Beyond this mass of confusion, there was something hiding in the darkness. Something much more powerful than the Shadows which were currently attacking the group. A Shadowmaster, a puppeteer. A fallen Knight. He opened his eyes, quickly made a mental note of the position and dived into the fight.

Sarge put half a clip into one of the Shadows. Luckily for them, their translucence didn't seem to alter the efficiency of bullets

Somethig stirred in the shadows. "The hell was that?" Marlowe asked. "You see that?" Haggard pointed at another patch of darkness. "I dunno, I-I'm seeing s**t." Sweetwater replied. Sarge pointed his torch at the darkness. Suddenly, the light went out. "Sunuvva- damn it, I thought I put new batteries in this thing." He exclaimed.

Suddenly, the entire squad's torches went out.
"Well, s**t." Marlowe sighed

And then, in the darkness, two red dots appeared... and then another set... and then another... soon, the air in front of them was filled with the pinpoints of light.

"Oh-" Sweetwater started.
"OPEN FIRE!" Sarge shouted, drowning out his words.

"My point exactly." Jack said. "Especially with what we'really going up against. Does Order even know about the Crawler? I bet they've sent them with normal guns."

Sarge tightened his grip around the enhanced assault rifle and muttered a prayer of thanks for the runes around the barrel. Anything could be hiding in a place as big as this. The torches attached to the barrels of their guns, mounted on their shoulders and placed on their helmets were laughably ineffective in cutting through the dark.
"Did you hear that?" Marlow asked.
"Nope." Haggard replied.
"Hold up." Redwood said.
They all strained their ears. There was a very light breeze whistling through the cavern. But there was an even fainter voice carried on it.
"Look. They have come to die."
They all looked at each other and decided together.
"Nope."
"Didn't hear a thing."

Jack sniffed and looked at Elijah, tilying his head to a side. He blinked. "You can't fly, can you?" He huffed.

"There it is." Haggard pointed. "Yep. I'm sure we all would've missed that." Sarge said. They all stood in front of the cavern entrance. It was easily as tall as a figreen story building and about as wide. And it was mostly pitch black, with only a few lonely shafts of diffused sunlight slanting down from the ceiling.
"This place got a name?" Marlowe asked.
"Locals call it 'Shadelight Cavern." Sweetwater replied.
"How cheery." Sarge muttered. "Let's go."

"Yas, the Crawler. You say it like you want there be some other threat to the known universe." Jack replied.

The Pelican touched down neatly. "Can't go further than this guys. There's an entrance to a cavern system two clicks west. You'll have to go through it to reach the desert. Then, it's another seven hour hike to the main city.' The pilot said. "Many thanks." Sarge replied and walked down the landing ramp, followed by the other three soldiers.
"I got a bad feeling 'bout this mission, Sarge." Haggard muttered. "You've always got a bad feeling." Marlowe replied on behalf of the Sergeant.

If Jack was surprised by the newcomer, he didn't show it. He simply nodded and turned back to Blue Team. "Good. You can take the bodies. And... yes, most likely the Crawler. We're lucky. The King has told me that a Knight will meet us there. And I believe that a human team has already been dispatched to investigate the disturbance. We might run into them."

Bravo Two were in a Pelican, headed for Aoroura. "So Sarge, what do you think is going on?" Haggard asked. "Hell if I know. Some outpost overseas in the desert went dark."
"Why do we get the s**t detail?" Marlowe asked. "Becausee we're in B Company." Sarge shrugged.

(So sorry I couldn't post. My dad was kinda called abroad suddenly and wanted to take me along.)

Jack appeared just as Locus fell back, Death by his side. The tworld hooded figures looked around. "My, my. We have been busy." Death remarked. Jack walked over to the Sword and picked it up. Then he turned to look at Sliuril. "The City of Aoroura was attacked by the Darkness last night. We would be wise to go there as quickly as possible."
"And the bodies?" Death asked.
Jack hesitated and noticed Blue Team for the first time. "Would we have to accompany you to the Base? " he asked.
