Rhine stopped the illusion and sat on the previously tap dancing chair, wondering what her parents could be doing now. Her dad would be on his way home, and her mother would be at the grocery store. There was a light tapping on her mental shields - visions she had managed to block out. Some were terrifying, and some were just...there. It was only when Rhine blinked did she notice that she had accidentally astral projected while mulling over her thoughts. "Oh crud," She mumbled as she noticed her body sitting on the chair with its eyes closed. ~~~ Mattie finished eating her breakfast, noting that she hadn't been to the outside world for a week. That world held terrible memories for her, but for some reason she always felt compelled to visit. She stepped into her house, and tumbled out the nearest window straight onto asphalt. She groaned as she landed uncomfortably on her back, almost stabbing herself with the wicked sharp knives hidden in the long sleeves of her shirt. Mattie blinked in surprise as she noticed a purple-haired girl being mugged by a bunch of animals across the road. Her hiking pack seemed to be pinning her down, making her vulnerable to anything that passed by. With a sigh, she knew she couldn't just leave her there to be killed by anything. She plucked one of the knives out of her sleeves, and threw it with deadly accuracy near a wing of a bird. The bird let out a frightened sound and flew off, the other animals following soon after. Mattie picked up her knife, and with one strong yank, pulled the girl up by her backpack. [Read more] |

The silence was a little too uncomfortable and awkward for Rhine's taste, so she looked at a nearby chair and began to twist its outer layer. The chair wobbled, hopped one step forward, and began to tap dance. [Read more] |

Run! Matilda Quarappelz jolted awake, gripping her blanket tightly. The air around her went from sweaty hot to icy cold in a matter of seconds as she tried to regain control of her whirling emotions. Energy manipulation was probably the most difficult savvy to scumble. As Mattie's breathing slowed, she took in her unfamiliar surroundings. She was in her new house in the savvy neighborhood, which was almost completely concealed from the other houses. The room was simply painted a wooden brown while the ceiling had a three-dimensional night sky painted on it. The sight was rather comforting to Matilda, and it helped her sleep. Mattie smoothly slid out a Swiss Army knife from underneath her unusually hard pillow and cut another notch on her wooden dresser's side. Seven notches. Seven days. Mattie blinked in surprise. She'd been holed up in this house for a week. Immediately after moving in with her measly possessions, Mattie had been surprised to find the house fully furnished. Not liking the presence of other people, she'd locked herself in and hadn't gone out since then. After those twisted scientists had her entire family killed, Matilda was always on high alert and naturally suspicious of people with supposedly good intentions. She'd had trouble trusting people before, now she just couldn't truly trust anyone. She pushed back her purple-green blanket, and dressed out of her PJs. It was about time she went out for some fresh air. As usual, Mattie had slept in and it was almost noon. After a fleeting moment of hesitation, she unlocked the front door and swung it open. It seemed that it had just stopped raining, and the grass smelled wet. Taking a careful step forward, Mattie inhaled sharply. The air contained so much energy she could almost feel it pulse like a heartbeat. Probably a side effect of having so many people with a savvy in the same place. After much hesitation, Mattie stretched out her hand over a blade of grass. Almost immediately it began to dance rigorously. Mattie couldn't suppress the smile that firmly made its way onto her face at the sight of the dancing grass. She was hit by a pang of guilt, and quickly withdrew her hand. "Your savvy is the damn reason your family is dead. You shouldn't be enjoying having it," She scolded herself out loud. Mattie grabbed a bagel and a bottle of cold milk from the medium sized refrigerator and went to have breakfast on her porch. Her house was on the top of a hill overlooking the rest of the houses, giving her a clear view of the entire neighborhood, but cleverly concealed by the surrounding vegetation. She began to eat her food, wondering what normal girls her age usually did to pass time. "Definitely not seeking revenge for their dead family and trying to hide from society due to their crazy powers," She mused as she munched her bagel. [Read more] |

Rhine stopped mid-sentence as darkness clouded her eyes. "Crystal!" "Violet, hang on!" "I c-c-can't-" Rhine stumbled backwards, tripping over the front steps of the house and scratching her legs. "The hell was that? It was just two voices now, not an image." [Read more] |

Edit: My second char. ![]() Username: Omnia Character Name: Matilda Quarappelz (Remember Matilda Haywire from "The Academy For Unusual Children's Return"? She's back.) Gender: Female Savvy: Energy manipulation. Her savvy is attuned to her emotions, which makes it seriously difficult or easy-as-cake to scumble it, depending on the situation. She is surprisingly more skilled in scumbling her savvy than any other savvy teenager due to her history. Age: 15 Personality: Before her parents were killed and her savvy unleashed, Mattie was a carefree happy-go-lucky girl with no resentment towards the universe. These days, she is distant and cold, often secluding herself from society. She has a hunger for knowledge, and usually chooses libraries as her safespots. Mattie has never had a friend, and is rather socially awkward due to this. She is truly lonely and sad, but hides it beneath an emotionless mask. Appearance: ![]() History: Mattie had a perfectly normal life till she turned thirteen. Besides the facts her cousin Alex could make things vanish, her aunt Marisa could summon items out of nowhere, and her father could soothe people by simply standing there, that is. Her mother had no savvy, but she did make up for it with her inhuman kindness and firm disciplining actions. When Mattie had her thirteenth birthday, her birthday cake exploded due to all the emotions swirling in her. A month after, a group of masked people charged into her house, killed her entire family, and burned down the entire street. They brought Mattie to a lab of some sort and tried to decode her DNA. She was tortured, experimented with, and sometimes they overloaded her body with energy sources of all kinds. During one of these energy experiments, Mattie broke free of her restraints and escaped from her captors. She put as much distance between the lab and her before finally seeking refuge in a library three days later. She soon discovered it had been almost a year since her family was killed. Mattie grieved and blamed herself for their deaths, thus abandoning her last name "Haywire", and taking on the surname of Quarappelz. She knows those twisted scientists would chase her to the ends of the universe, and never stays in one place for more than two weeks. Mattie was caught stealing from a clothing store by none other than Mrs. Aaronson herself. She stubbornly refused to talk about her family, and Mrs. Aaronson deduced from her scars and coldness that they had been killed. She was offered a home in the secret savvy neighborhood, and Mattie gratefully accepted. She worried she'd be caught, but Mrs. Aaronson assured her that "that neighborhood doesn't belong in this universe", and so they wouldn't find her. Family: Mattie found out three months after her escape that the scientists hunted down every single last member of her family, savvy or not, and murdered them. Crush: Eh. Possibility. Other: Edit 2: No side effects for people who get their savvys at an early age. It is to be noted that they get more practice in, and are much better at scumbling than anyone else due to this. However, they may get in trouble or find themselves in danger if they don't know about savvys and use them in public. -cough cough evillabscientistspies cough cough- [Read more] |

"Well, Mom still isn't back from the grocery store, and Dad's still at the high school, and I'm starting to talk to myself...why the heck not?" Rhine thought out loud. Exiting her house, she frowned as she spotted a brunette boy walking on the sidewalk, trailing blood behind him. Any other normal person who have run away screaming, but Rhine wasn't normal. "Hell, that looks like a really painful savvy," she mumbled as she made her way to the house across the street. She raised her hand and feebly knocked at the door. "Here goes nothing..." Destruction...chaos...people...tortured...experiments... Rhine jolted back to reality and winced at her throbbing head. She still didn't know how to scumble that part of her savvy, and it was proving very difficult to do. Like most of the savvy population, Rhine was taken out of school and homeschooled right before her thirteenth birthday. Her birthday had started out quiet, and her nervous parents had bought her a pint of ice cream and a cake. She was in the middle of eating the mint chocolate yumminess when she had a stray thought of transforming her spoon into a snake. Rhine had screamed and dropped the spoon once she noticed it was slowly turning green. Her parents had come running, but by the time they arrived, the spoon was no longer a snake slithering across the floor. After calling up most of her dad's family, they finally identified that what Rhine did was produce an illusion. The next few days consisted of the remote control turning into a dancing clown, Elijah's razor turning into a pencil sharpener, and Rhine suffering from dream visions. Two weeks after her birthday, she accidentally managed to astral project. She had scared the living shizzam out of her cousins when she walked through their bedroom wall, unaware of the fact she left her body behind. Rhine had painstakingly tried to scumble her newfound savvy, and with a lot of hard work, she managed to figure out how her savvy worked. Her mind was able to delve deep into the layers of reality, sometimes even managing to pick up stray thoughts from other people. By twisting around a certain layer, she could produce an illusion, or even distort the layer completely. She could also break through other people's mental shields, mentally attacking them. She could perfectly control the illusions and was gaining progress in astral projecting and breaking through mental shields, but she still couldn't stop the frequent headaches her dream visions brought at night. "What the heck. Why not?" Rhine said out loud, running up to the window and jumping. Mrs. Aaronson had made the portal perfectly, and Rhine zoomed across layers of reality, finally landing unsteadily on her feet. She stood on the lawn of her house in the savvy neighborhood. Her eyes glazed over as she viewed the interior of the house by working around a certain layer of reality. She had met Mrs. Aaronson right after the latter had tumbled out of a portal and walked right into her. Discovering Rhine's family had the savvy heritage, Mrs. Aaronson happily installed a portal in all their windows, only accessible by people who knew about the heritage. When Rhine had asked about this, Mrs. Aaronson winked at her and said, "Knowledge is the password to my portals." A crack of thunder broke Rhine's concentration and her vision faded back to normal. With a quick glance, she realized clouds were steadily gathering up ahead. "Someone who can't scumble their savvy very well," Rhine thought. Rhine leaped for the front door just as the downpour began. Inspecting the rain from her open door, Rhine tried to grasp for a thin line connecting the downpour into reality. She briefly caught it, then the line sped away from her subconscious' hand. Rhine set her mouth in a grim line. She needed to scumble her savvy completely, and learn it fast. "Before my subconscious starts gathering stray bits of information from the layers of reality on its own, and before I get another vision of war," Rhine thought darkly. [Read more] |
