(Sorrysorrysorrysorrysorry)

Sarge was the first to enter the chamber, though he wasn't entirely sure what he was seeing. There was a human figure in the middle, which he initially thought was a statue. It was only after a few seconds that it was Naomi, suspended by some black goo. A voice laughed in the darkness. "Who's that?" Sarge asked. There was no reply. Instead, several shadow creatures appeared in the middle of the room.

Bill's head snapped towards the sound. "Great, you're here." he muttered, moving over to the tree. "Have you seen any of those things yet?" he asked Jessica. He looked around. Things were quite. They always were at the start of a trial. "We should move soon."

Bill ran through the undergrowth, keeping an eye on the ground. Some of the Killers set traps. He didn't want to get caught right away. He didn't often rely on others to get him down. He preferred that the run instead of risk themselves for him. It felt... wrong, seeing someone caught because of him. He assumed he'd only been running for little over a minute, but in this world, time didn't matter. The gate would open when it wanted to. They had to survive until then.

"So. You guys seem to know a lot about what's going on over here. Anything you might have missed?" Sarge asked.
"Nothing you need to know right now." Jack replied.

Meanwhile, in a forest on the mainland.

"An X. An X. I am looking... for an X." Caboose muttered to himself. "The X marks buried treasure..." he continued to himself. "An X. That is a plus sign... not an X. An X. An X..."

(As we're not doing generators, the gates will be OPENABLE after some time. They WILL need to be opened, a time consuming task. Until then, it's just a cat-and-mouse scenario.)

Suddenly, the fire died right down. "Well, then." Bill said. For a few seconds, there was absolute darkness. Then he standing near a wrecked wall. A large, ruined mansion loomed out of the fog ahead of him. There were several other, smaller building around. He'd been here several times before. There was a hook right behind him, covered in blood and rust.
Bill looked around. He could see no one. People never appeared in this place in a group They'd have to seek each other out... or not. Sometimes, it was better to focus on saving yourself. However, that was not Bill's nature. There were several new people here. They'd require help. Moving quickly as he could without making too much noise, he started searching for them.

"Precisely." Sarge nodded. Jack looked at the man. He'd met only a few humans so entirely... committed... to completing a task. Locke and Dutch had been amongst them. He also seemed to be trustworthy enough. His team followed his orders without question, something that wouldn't happen if he was not a competent leader. He valued life, but knew when to sacrifice it, an important trait. Perhaps it wasn't all that bad to have someone like him on this mission. He'd certainly help in discussions with the citizens of Aurora.

Bill was interested by what Jessica had said. She had said that the woman was her sidekick. BI'll, however, say everyone as an equal, no matter how useless they were. It told him a bit about the girl. "Yes? Why is that?" He asked her with a half smile. He noted where everyone had sat down around the fire, which had become slightly dimmer once again. "And you don't have to tell me if you don't want to, but I'd be interested in hearing what you can remember."

Sarge blinked a couple of times. "A position of command isn't something to be taken lightly. Sometimes, you have to sacrifice the pawn to win the game. That's the easiest way of looking at it. Sometimes, you have to forget you're dealing with real people." Something flared, deep in his eyes. "To answer the question, my people matter to me." he said. "So it's not a decision I take likely, but one I have to." His team seemed slightly confused, but figured that someone must've asked him a question they hadn't heard, which was correct, strictly speaking.

(We don't need to count number of hits or anything. You get hit, you get injured. It's proportional to where and how hard you get hit. I want this to be based on the game, not stick rigidly by it's rules.)

Bill was frankly disgusted that Claudette and Dwight had laughed at their plight. "Awake, eh?" he asked, standing up. "As for your questions... hell if I know. We figure they're people who were sent here before us and... I dunno... decided it was better to become one of those things. Better to murder forever than to run forever. As for 'can they see us'... look into the shadows, and you might be unfortunate enough to glimpse one. But they can't see us. We don't think so. If they can, they don't approach the light. The Entity is what we call the thing that controls them... the thing that takes you off the Hooks. As for why you can't remember anything..." he trailed off and shook his head with a sigh. He didn't ask for their names. Those were their's to offer, though his had already been revealed.

(Great, all accepted. We'll do it like Claudette and Dwight have just escaped from a trial when you bring them in. Unless you have some other way to introduce them, in which case, you can use that instead.)

Bill sighed. He had escaped his previous trial just after another had started. He would be forced to sit there until the last one was either completed or the Entity forcefully pulled him into one, something it only did rarely. He glanced over at the three prone figures again. The fire was still burning low, putting them in the shadows. He wasn't able to makes out any details. Nobody remembered much from before they had been pulled into this world. While some memories would eventually return, most would be lost forever. At least, that was what had happened for him. He wondered wondered what they would remember as soon as they woke up.
It was never going to be an easy experience, realising that you had just lost everything. Hard to imagine that it could get any worse. But it would. They could count on that. It would always get worse. He pulled a cigarette out of his pocket and put it into his mouth without lighting it. He never lit them. He got the feeling that the Entity would find a way to use it against him. Why else would there be a full pack in his pocket after each trial? However, he had a habit of chewing the end. He supposed he missed eating. That was one thing he remembered. He wasn't hungry, nobody ever got hungry in this world. Once again, it was more like a memory of hunger, one that he would never be able to repress completely.
"How irritating." he thought to himself.
Then, he repeated the words out loud, just to hear his own voice.

"Yeah, what's the debate?" Sarge asked. "Oh, we're leaving her." Jack summed up, glaring at all of them. "Lead on."
Sarge shuddered at his coldness but remembered that that was exactly what he had wanted a few seconds ago, so didn't complain.

Bill looked up at the sky again, trying to make it out between the branches. There was nothing to see. Just darkness. He looked over his shoulder to make sure that nothing was lurking in the shadows behind him.
Suddenly , the fire got slightly dimmer, so that the three prone figures were just beyond it's light. He didn't worry. I wold brighten up again in a moment or two, but he knew that it meant that the next trial was growing near. He hoped that it would happen soon, so as to spare the new ones for at least a while. But somehow he doubted that. The Entity was cruel. It'd wait, he was sure of it.

(Yeah, I'm more or less through with waiting. Lets start.)

Bill stared into the fire with his sharp, blue eyes, mesmerised by the intricate patterns it danced in. Just beyond the ring of light, the forest pused in from all sides, as if trying to swallow him up. The moon was hidden by it, the branches closing in above him, blocking the night sky from view. Darks shapes seemed to move in the forest, but Bill had trained himself to ignore them. He had pushed his hands right up to the flames, trying to absorb some heat. The fire emitted a strange sensation; more a memory of warmth than the actual thing. He had rolled up his sleeves, revealing numerous scars.
None of this was new to him. However, there was one new thing. Three figures lay on the ground, just within the circle of light, seemingly fast asleep. He hadn't tried to wake them; they would do so in their own time. However, his heart reached out for the poor souls, pitying them. How they would wish they'd never woken up.

Sarge swore. Jack started getting ready to fly up to the platform, but Sarge stopped. "Hell if we're getting separated again." he said. His soldiers stared at him. He felt somewhat sick in the stomach, disgusted by what he had just said and what he was about to say.
"Keep moving forward."

"Marlowe, get over." Sarge ordered. Marlowe, quickly obeyed. Next went Sweetwater and then Haggard. "Jack, head on." Sarge said. Jack hesitated, not entirely willing to take orders from a human, but decided it wasn't worth pursuing. He quickly hopped over. "Come down right after me." Sarge told Naomi. With that, he too went over the edge, landing heavily on his feet.

Sarge struggled with his conscience for a moment and then nodded. "That's fine."
Jack smiled at Faith's whining. "I can switch back and forth between the two forms now. I thought it would be useful to have that ability. Just be grateful you weren't present when he gave it to me." He said.

Jack dropped the barrier. "Good." Redwood nodded. He quickly checked a compass. "That way." he pointed deeper into the cavern. "There's a bit of a jump further ahead, but it's manageable. Then, it should be easy to get through to the desert." he said.

"Soldier, stand down!" Sarge got unsteadily to his feet. "We're soldiers. That means we defend humanity, no matter what the cost. That what she... tried... to do." He said.
"You say that like soldiers and humans are two different things. Like we're just machines." Marlowe frowned. Sarge glared at him. "And so what if we are?" he growled. Then he turned back to Naomi. "What's done is done. I don't know what you guys just saw, but no point in staying here and waiting for it to happen again. Let's just get out of here." he said. Meanwhile, Jack had put a barrier around Naomi. On one hand, it was to contain her if she had another outburst. On the other, it was to make sure no harm came to her if Faith decided to attack.

"Weak. That is what you are Jack. You flaunt your power so you can cower behind it. Pitiful. You never deserved to ascend. You disgrace an honourable title you never earned." the King's voice said.
At this, Jack, who was still in his human form, let out a roar. A roar so loud that the floor and ceiling of the cave shook. It was such an unearthly sound. One that didn't belong in this universe. One that both Life and Death would have scurried away from. Upon hearing that terrible noise, the soldiers of B Company snapped out of their respective illusions. All of them other than Sarge.

Sarge was on his knees, looking at the bodies of his fallen soldiers. They hadn't deserved to die like that. A single tear slid down his cheek. He was a man broken, defeated. A man without a purpose. Hell, he shouldn't even have been on this mission. He had earned his retirement years ago.
Quite suddenly, there was a pistol in his hand.
"Then, why don't you... retire?" something whispered into his ear. "Let go of the troubles of this world. Let go of the pain."
Not fully aware of what he was doing, he checked the ammo and pushed back the slide. One bullet entered the chamber.
"It won't hurt." the thing whispered. Sarge was aware of it physically being there, in this messed up world. "It'll be like going to sleep."
"It won't hurt..." Sarge repeated. "... for me, a**hole."
He spun around. The terror stood there, it's serrated mouth wide open. Redwood took quick aim and fired into it's open maw. The illusion disappeared, along with the creature.

(I'm turning everyone in B Company into... err... not official character, as I only ever really use Redwood.)

"Do you know... the pain you have caused?" the voice asked Sliuril. "The suffering? You created them... and killed them. You pretend you want to help... BUT YOU ONLY WANT TO SEE THEM DIE! You let them die. But do you want to meet them again? can do that."
Suddenly, behind her, a figure appeared. It was Soren, covered in an ethereal black goo which seemed to be holding him in place. He was not, however, in his armour. He was as he had been before, heavily mutated. Behind, Locke appeared... then Dutch... then the Chief... one by one, every SPARTAN appeared in front of her, held in place by the goo. And finally, one final figure appeared. Faith, bound in a similar manner. None of them seemed to be breathing. Suddenly, Locke was let free. He looked around, seemingly terrified. Then, his eyes locked with Sliuril. "You." he hissed. "You did this. You killed them." Something flared in his eyes. "You killed us all. But even in death, our pain continues. It never... N-NEVER STOPS!" he roared, clutching at his head. The moment passed. "But you taught us to fight through the pain. Now, we only hate. Hate is all that's left. Even in death, we won't forgive you.
All the SPARTANs were let free. But instead of attacking, they stood there. Another series of images was presented to Sliuril. How each and every one of them had died. And, in the background, Faith seemed to be roaring in pain, though there was no sound.

Sarge looked around. Fairly suddenly, his squad appeared in front of him. All of them were bound, three masked men holding guns to their heads. "Hold on! Hold on!" Redwood shouted at the captors. They turned. "Sarge." Haggard said. "Shut up." the captor growled. "Let 'em go. I'll come with you instead." the captors to looked at him.
"No." they said as one. They squeezed the triggers together. Sarge cried out and charged blindly at them. He was knocked down in seconds, looking at his soldiers lying in pools of their own blood, their eyes unseeing.

Jack looked around. "You failed. You know that, right?" it was the King's voice. "You are a worthless, insignificant speck of dust. And, what's more, you are a failure. Unable to carry out the most simple of tasks. Even the mortal humans are more worthy than you." the voice continued.
