Pushing open the doors to the bunks, Mel dragged herself inside, slumping over against the wall to release the breath she hadn’t realized she’d been holding.

Ha’awe make loa.

She let out a small whine, pressing her palms heavily against her stomach. (When she pulled them back, they were coated in red.)

Reaching blindly for the first aid kit, the brunette released the handle and dropped it, sliding down the wall to follow it to the ground with a faint ‘thud’.

”Mel?” She didn’t recognize the voice. It was echoed and hollow, bouncing around in her head. ”— el? Mel?”

She didn’t have the energy to respond and slumped over into the voices arms. (She barely registered the soft touch of fluffy blue fur brushing against her shoulder.) She’d spent so much time with Mia that the Alolan language was rubbing off on her.

“Kahu,” She gasped, voice scratchy and raspy. “Who is it?”

Riu didn’t respond. He didn’t have too. Because they both knew the answer to her question.

Tiger and Mira. She really did hope they would be okay. They deserved more than they were getting.

Connor, on the other hand, was in quite a mood.

Not a bitter mood. If anything, just exhausted. His green eyes were dull and every time he blinked he could feel his eyelids growing heavier. He’d long since given up on even trying to stay awake, having trooped his way back to the hotel he’d been staying at.

Maybe there were bandaids. They were fun to play with.

He brushed through the doorway and tumbled inside, dropping face-first onto the bed and clocking out.

Simon brushed his bangs out of his eyes before scampering toward the windows.

“Mhm, I’m fine,” Connor grinned in response, green eyes brightening. He really liked the colors the rest of the group spoke, all warm and somewhat comforting. “I remembered I left my Pokédex on all night. It is probably dead now.” He snorted, shaking his head.

Mel closed down her dex again, cracking her back as she tucked it back into her backpack. “Welp. Imma hit the road. And by road I mean labs. Again. Call me if anything cool happens, like if Gina actually manages to set off that Voltorb!” She grinned, waving over her shoulder before breaking into a sprint and dashing off.

”.. For the record, I didn’t talk Gina into doing that.”

“Shut the hell up, Acci.”

“Love yah, sis.” Mel grinned, tucking her dex into her pocket after clicking the off button.

Riu rolled his eyes and offered Shadow an affectionate nudge of sorts, though that small, reserved-for-only-a-few-people smile cracked through as he brushed his fur back into place.

“You look like you got hit by a bus.” Mel mused seriously.

”This is homophobia.”

Connor had followed the others out after swallowing a few painkillers, still massaging his temples. Murky green was an ugly color. He really needed to do something about it. Maybe try and make his voice lighter or something.

Yeah. Maybe he would.

“.. That went better than I thought it would have, actually,” Mel remarked, reaching into her backpack to pull out the orange bottle. She popped it open and tossed one of the orange pills into her mouth, swallowing it before choking and practically drowning herself in her water bottle (it was for her “crippling” ADHD, she’d finally resigned to medication after Red had literally thrown her to a therapist).

”Can we go now?” Riu complained bitterly, kicking at the floor. His chest-spike was dotted with red, and he looked grumpier than usual.

Shocking.

Taste the sarcasm (Connor would have punched her; The little goblin and his synesthesia).

Speaking of Connor, he was doing surprisingly well.

“I’m fine,” He answered honestly. “I just have a headache, but that’s all.” His own voice was murky green. He didn’t like it. There was a reason he didn’t talk much.

He liked to see the others talk. Snow and Mel both had shades of pink. Pretty colors. Ones that he could actually look at for more than a second.

Oh well.

Mel sighed, reaching over to wrap a few bandages around Acciaio’s arm (”But I finally have a cool scar!” “It’s not gonna scar, you damn goblin.”). Upon finishing she shoved the bandages into her backpack and sighed again, turning to glance at the group.

”We should probably just go,” Ah, she could always count on the logical side of Riu. ”We’re not exactly winning any awards here. You should’ve listened to me when I said we should gO HOME.”

She ignored him, of course.

“Okay, first off, we’re not items,” Mel sighed and rubbed her face. “I’m not asking for forgiveness, nor is this going to cut it but.. I’m really sorry. For starting the argument and attacking you and just being a menace in general. You don’t have to accept it, but.. Y’know.. Have a good day or whatever.”

“Yeah, Okay,” Connor nodded with a sigh, tossing a final look at the legend. Part of him desperately wanted to stay, but reason won over and he trailed after Snow, only after reaching down to pick Simon up off the floor.

“New girlfriend, new girlfriend!” Mel teased, an old spark returning to her eyes that had been previously void. She dove forward to grab onto Zara’s arm, shaking it. “Stop, let him go, Zara please—” She protested, still clinging to the older girl’s arm.

Aki was at her side in an instant, knocking aside another grunt. ”Mel, please tell me you took them.”

“Of course I didn’t take them, what do you think I am— C’mon, Zara, please—“

“Yes!” Connor gasped, watching the grunt fall back. “Is he okay? Kyogre, not the grunt.”

Simon landed and growled, powering up a power gem as a precaution.

“I’m not expecting anybody to be friendly to me!” Mel shot back without missing a beat. “‘Cause unlike some people, I’m well aware of what I did. I came to Old Mawvile to apologize you brat, and ask if there was any possible way I could help. You didn’t give me the damn chance too! I didn’t start the fight there, that’s all on your new girlfriend!” She snarled, watching the older run off. “Honestly. Children,” She complained, mostly to herself as she jogged over to Zara. “Stop, don’t kill him!” She protested loudly.

”Shadow—“ That was Riu, tripping over his own paws as he skidded to a halt by the Zoroark, megastone glinting as the light reflected off of it. ”You need to help Zara— moTHER OF GOD—“

”Got you!” Acciaio yowled, diving forward to literally fist-fight the Machamp that had thrown Riu over.

Letting out a complaining wheeze, Riu staggered back up, shaking his head (and flicking a droplet of red onto the floor). ”My hero,” He mocked.

”I know!~”

Connor nodded in agreement, nodding to Simon. The Sableye darted after Rai, powering up a shadow ball as he did so. “Mhm,” He agreed.

“Mhm, the feeling’s mutual, bud.” Mel shot back, though her tone didn’t hold any venom in it, just a certain air of finality that, honestly, only she was really capable to giving off during a fight. “Look. I totally get that you hate me, which is completely A-Okay with me, but like, maybe get out of here, why are you even here.” It wasn’t anger resonating in her voice, it was that old anxiety and care flashing through it.

Riu landed beside her with a grunt, lashing out to place his paw on a grunt’s chest. With a bright blue flash, the grunt was thrown into the air quite literally by an aura sphere. Grinning sharply, Acciaio waited at the other end to form a yellow bone, slamming the grunt back into the air with bone rush. Aki was there in a split second, arm glowing briefly as he released yet another psycho cut into the mass.

Connor groaned and lifted both hands to rub his temples. “We have to do something, what if he is in pain? We cannot leave him here by himself.” He growled, dropping his hands to his sides, fingers curling into fists.

“Guilt? Hey, that’s something I can handle! I started the attack!”

Blue eyes, brown hair. Crash, thud.

Mel hit the ground, spreading her arms when her sneakers made contact with the floor. “Sa-lut! Bone rush, psycho cut!” She shouted, throwing one hand up. The keystone bounced on the string that attracted it to her hair.

Acier— Riu—, Acciaio and Aki each pushed forward with their respective moves to land semi-direct hits on several grunts.

“Woah, what’s going on?” Connor whispered, reaching out to pat the Sceptile in apology. “Sorry, Blade.” His eyes brows furrowed as he took in the scene, spotting the rocketball.
