Cassius writes his letter to his mom.

Mom, I would like to tell you that I'm an outlaw in the confederate States of America. However, I never been making any mischief to some of my co-soldiers nor to the highest officials of the army. I was pitied when I saw a young lady from the post, harassing and abusing. I can't help it. So, I tried to escape with her, when the armies from the Union's presence came in Charleston. I'm sorry if I did anything wrong to you. Please forgive me.

Don't worry about me, mother. I am fine here in Kentucky, with the young lady I saved and I always loved. You must not enter Kentucky for you safety.

Please, say to father I'm deeply apologize for what I have caused. I hope you understand.
