"Mountain men are what your people call the Cloaks" Irida replies, her voice was tight and she was determined to stare daggers into the path in front of her. It was obvious she was more affected by the village than she was letting on.

Suddenly, her gaze is snatched to something behind her, she was alerted by a growl. She turns her horse around just in time to see a Marchhound leap at her men. Their deaths were quick, but nothing short of cruel, any normal person would turn away. But Irida was far from normal. "Mountain Beasts!" She calls out in warning in case any of her men had missed the obvious. "Protect the citizens and kill that Beast!" She orders.

Gwen is the first of the two to attack. She raises her bow up and attempts to shoot the rider off the Hound. But she just barley misses. Once again, she curses herself for skipping her self training sessions. "Eric! I'm sure you're a better shot than me! Shoot the rider!" Gwen calls while throwing her bow at him. There were a three arrows strung to the sides.

Gwen and Irida both exchange a glance, both mutually deciding who should protect and who should fight. Gwen races off towards Tani and Sage while Irida races towards the Marchhound.

Irida doesn't respond right away. Her head was bowed as if she were silently paying her respects for her fallen men and women. "Yes" she responds. "Telmar is not the only kingdom we vowed to protect. There are a few neighboring villages within the vicinity of my Kingdom. We help protect all of them." She raises her head up to glance at Tani, there was rage boiling in her gaze. "It appears that the Mountain Men found them"

"Don't worry about it" Gwen tells Barry. "We just want to ensure that the path ahead is safe." There was no use in lying. "Get back on your wagon Barry, Irida will probably be back soon, regardless of what the news is, we'll have to be continue forward." She looks up when she hears Tani's shout. She visibly relaxes when she notices that Irida didn't seem worried. Actually... Now that she thought about it, Irida's face was mostly unreadable.

Irida rode back towards the caravan and waved it on. "Proceed with caution!" she told one of the other riders who in turn passed the word along to the others. The caravan began to move forward, towards the smoke to see a destroyed town. The bodies of soldiers and villagers alike layed scattered all around. All of the soldiers, however, wore similar armor to Irida's.

Both armies move outside of the line, boxing in the citizens in the middle of the line. Sage rides up near the front of the line, while both Gwen and Irida lead the line. None of them have to mention how suspicious they are of the smoke, but they don't point it out, for the fear of causing panic amongst the group.

Irida's gaze travels from the smoke over to Gwen, who was obviously distracted by the smoke. "Get your bow out and ready" she commands. Her voice was soft, meant only to be heard by Gwen. Irida had requested that Rose and Freya ride up near the front of the line, something she was glad of doing now. "You remember the way to the kingdom right?" She asks the two. "One of you should lead the way, I'm going to scout ahead, one of you should follow." She turns to Gwen, her gaze sharpening. "If anything happens, be prepared, I expect that you'll know what to do." Gwen gulps, then nods, showing that she understood.

As promised, Irida rides on ahead, then cuts off towards the smoke. But she doesn't head directly towards it, rather, close to it, she is careful to stay a safe distance away.

In an attempt to pass the time, Gwen walks over to Irida, who had a hand-drawn map laid out in front of her and was busy marking certain paths. Most likely ones that lead to her kingdom.

"Hey, I think we started off on the wrong foot. We should try to get along now since I'm assuming we'll be working together at Kestrian." Surprisingly enough, Gwen manages to keep her tone friendly.

"Great" Irida replies dismissively. "Are you ready to leave general?" Irida asks, her voice was slightly high pitched, as if she were speaking to a child.

"Don't worry, it won't take me long to pack" Gwen responds with a forced laugh. Suddenly, Irida stands up, she turns around to face Gwen. Her eyes were filled with fury.

"Don't worry? I don't think you quite understand, so let me make this easy for you." Irida snaps while jabbing Gwen's forehead with her finger. "There. Is. An. Incoming. Invasion" Irida crosses her arms and snorts. "I won't tell you how to do your job, but you should be a bit more hasty about leaving. Afterall only your whole kingdom's lives are on the line." Irida explains. Irida's eyes drop down to Gwen's fists, which are clenched. "Oh ho ho, do you want to fight me?" Irida asks with a smug smile. She leans forward, the distance was perfect for a haymaker. "I'm feeling generous, you can have a free punch" Irida challenges. Gwen silently stares at Irida before shaking her head. Gwen turns around and walks away. But oddly enough, when she turns around to glare at Irida, Irida almost seems to look disappointed.

They must've had another fight Gwen thinks to herself. Otherwise, Tani would've known about this. "I'm sure Sage, Luke, or Leaf would've told you eventually, I think they've been preoccupied with all the recent events" she points out. "Still, it's no excuse, you need to know so that you can help her." Gwen sighs. "Is there anything I can do to help? I want Maddy to get better."

"My army is aware of the situation and is going door to door to alert the citizens and help them prepare for their travels." Gwen informs. Her eyes soften slightly as she remembers something else. "Hey, how is going between you and Maddy?" Gwen asks hesitantly. "I heard that she had another breakdown last night- she almost stabbed Sage and threw something at Leaf and Luke. Is she doing okay?..." She pauses. "It sounds like she is getting worse" she says tenderly.

"I'll inform my men to be prepared to leave by then" Irida stands up and glances between Rose and Tani. "I'm sure you two have some catching up to do. Feel free to do that, just make sure the two of you are prepared to leave by daybreak" Irida tells both Rose and Freya. She stands up and marches out the door, heading towards her army to share the news with them.

"Kestrian" Irida corrects with an amused smile. "The journey will be a long one. Your kingdom is about a five day travel from Kestrian. I hope your people are prepared." She leans back in her chair now and rests her legs on top of the table. She doesn't appear to be fazed by any of this. "Our army has a few extra food and water rations, while we'd rather save it for an emergency, your people can use it if necessary. We would also be willing to allow citizens who don't have horses to ride with us" Irida offers

Gwen nods. "Will do" she tells Tani. She stands up and walks towards the door where she signals for the three to enter in the room again. Her body is half blocking the doorway, but she doesn't move aside for Irida, who stares Gwen down as she passes by. Oddly enough, there seems to be a flicker of pity in her gaze. What's that about? Gwen wonders as she steps outside and walks over to her army. She puts aside her confused thoughts and focuses on the task on hand. They had to be ready to leave as soon as possible.

"So?" Irida asks once Gwen leaves. "What did you gals decide?"

"We are going to take you up on your offer" Sage answers after exchanging a look with Tani.

"Excellent! Do you two have any questions about how this will go?" Irida asks. She walks over to the table and finally sits down, although she doesn't allow herself to relax into the chair.

"Of course" Irida responds as she bows her head respectfully. "Take all the time that you need" her tone was slightly sarcastic. At the very least, Irida managed to keep her face sincere. She nods at Rose and Freya, silently commanding them to follow her. She steps outside and leans against the wall on the opposite side of Eric, she nods in greeting at the boy.

When all three of them are gone they finally speak. Gwen is the first to talk.
"I don't like her. Let me make that clear. But I hate to admit it. If the Cloaks are really moving towards us, then we would have to leave" she pauses, as if debating whenever or not to say something. "We aren't ready for a fight and it's all my fault" she finally admits. Saying that out loud causes Gwen to feel a pang of guilt, but she had to admit, it was also a bit liberating.

"There'll be time to pity yourself later" Sage responds. "It's been awhile since we've made an alliance with another kingdom. This could be good for us. Like she said- we really have nothing to lose in all of this. If we stay behind and she's right, we get destroyed, if she's wrong, nothing changes. Now if we agree to go with her, then we could risk being captured. But if we have to fight our way out, then it would be nothing new to us. I say we take the risk in trusting her. What do you think Tani?" Sage asks.

"Not long" Irida admits. "The army is moving rather quickly..." She raises a hand to her face and taps her chin thoughtfully. "I'd say... maybe three days." Her eyes suddenly soften. "I know it's not ideal and I'm sorry about that. If you need some time to discuss this, I can step out. But I would recommend making a decision quickly."

Irida doesn't sit down. Instead, she anxiously paces back and forth around the room, her arms were crossed behind her back and her chin was still raised. If any old fool were to glance in this room, one would suspect that Irida was above all of the people in this room. Her arrogance makes Gwen's jaw tighten, but she keeps her mouth shut.

"My name is Irida Mannering, I am the high commander of the Priatorian Order and warden of the seaside kingdom of Kestrian. For the last 20 years now, my nation has been at war with one of your enemies from the Iron Mountains" She pauses to glance sideways at their faces. She notices sudden alertness on Gwen's face in particular. "My scouts have informed me that a huge division of their army is marching towards this kingdom as we speak. I'm certain that it'll be enough to easily wipe all you out"

This sets Gwen off. She can no longer stay silent. "So what? Did you really decide to come here with a puny army of your own? One that even we could defeat? Yet you come here to underestimate our strength." Gwen snorts. "Thanks for the tip, but what would you know?"

"I have a proposal for you" Irida continues, she ignores Gwen's comments, which only makes Gwen bristle even more. "My proposal for you is that we escort you and your people to Kestrian and in return, you assist us in our fight again these so-called "Cloaks" as Rose has so frequently called them." She smiles at Tani and Sage. "You have nothing to lose in this. Not only will your kingdom not be destroyed by the Cloaks, but you'll also have a chance in fighting back."

"And if we refuse?" Gwen questions.

"Then I wish your kingdom luck, you'll need it if you think you can stop an invasion of that size alone." Irida doesn't try to hide the frustration in her voice. "But the choice isn't up to you general, the choice is up to them" Irida reminds Gwen, gesturing to both Tani and Sage.

"That's understandable." Irida steps off of her horse and glances at Rose and Freya. "Will you have a problem with Freya and Rose joining us? I'm certain you understand the threat you pose against me? It's not exactly wise to meet three strangers by yourself." While she had asked a question, it came out sounding demanding.

"You won't have to worry about us being a threat if you are wise enough to watch your tone when addressing us" Gwen snaps as she rides forward to join the group. "You can consider yourself to be a visitor for now... but don't make me change my mind, you can become a prisoner real quick." Gwen's attempt to intimate Irida makes Irida snort in a fit of laughter. Gwen opens her mouth to speak, but Sage cuts in.

"Of course they can join us. Tani? Would you mind leading the way?" Sage asks while throwing a glare at Gwen. Don't provoke her Sage mouths to Gwen.

"Keep an eye on them" Gwen whispers to her commanders. She glances at Eric, who happened to be close by. "You," she says while pointing to Eric, "would you mind standing guard by the door?"

Distrust seems to fill the citizen's eyes as they eye the three strangers. Irida pays no mind to their glares. She instead quietly glances around the kingdom, she takes her time looking the kingdom up and down. She had mostly ignored Tani, Freya, and Rose. As long as Rose managed to keep Freya's temper under control, there was no need for her to step in. The last thing Irida wanted was to risk a fight, especially with their smaller numbers.

But it doesn't take long for Irida to grow impatient. "As much as I love a good reunion, we have things to do. Right ladies?" Irida rather rudely reminds the two. "Tell me Tani, are you the leader of these people? If not, I would like to be taken to him or her. We have important matters to discuss." She glances at the citizens, then behind her, where Gwen's army was ever so carefully boxing her army in. "...In private" she clarifies.

Sage inhales a sharp breath when she hears Tani's warning. "Stop!" She commands, but of course, her voice is impossible to hear over the thundering of hooves. Fortunately, Gwen managed to spot the white flag on her own. She holds up a hand and stops her horse. After a slight delay, her army does the same. All is mostly quiet as the two armies silently glare at each other. They all seem to be sizing each other up. The only sounds that can be heard are horses pawing the ground and everyone's baited breaths. Gwen's shoulders tense up when she spots movement towards the middle of the enemy line. It breaks apart to allow a woman to pass by.

She rides up towards Gwen but stops her horse a few feet in front of hers. She glances at Gwen, then lifts up her eyes to look at Sage and Tani, then she returns her gaze to Gwen. "Sh*t," she says with a chuckle. "You scared the living daylights out of us." She lifts up her chin proudly and narrows her eyes at Gwen. "What are you? A soldier? Or a sorry excuse of a general? You're trembling before me you know?" She returns her gaze to Sage and Tani, a small smile creeping across her face. "I'm assuming one of those two ladies is your leader. Excuse me, but I require a word with them." The woman passes by Gwen, who watches her pass by with a bewildered expression. The woman's army follows. None of them make a move for their swords. Compared to the Telmarian army, this army seems to be far more confident and professonal.

Everything seems to be moving in slow motion. The size of the army seems to double in Gwen's eyes. Her breath comes out shaky and her heart begins to pound. There was no way they could face an army like this. Without having to say a word, Gwen turns around and moves back towards the kingdom. Her army follows her, although most appear to look confused.

"What are you doing!?" Sage yells from the wall above. She crosses her arms and gives Gwen a disappointed glare. "We've fought armies twice the size of this with fewer soldiers. There is no need to cower, we can take them!" Sage shouts. "This victory will be easy compared to our last battles. Take them out!" Sage orders.

Gwen gulps, she still looks worried, but Sage's words had a small impact on her. She nods at Sage, then heads back towards the approaching army. Her horse breaks away from the line, moving faster than the other soldier's horses. Her eyes sharpen as she tries to calculate their next move. She holds out her sword in front of her, figuring their best chance of success would be to cut down the first line of defense.

Glancing behind her, Gwen noticed that the patrol group that she passed seemed to be far behind her. Yet, for some unknown reason, she felt as if someone was watching her. A shiver runs down her spine at the thought of some invisible boogyman watching her. Nobody is here her logical side assured her, although her assurance was no help. The feeling didn't leave.

Just ahead of her was a building, which sat close to the border of their kingdom. It was old and beaten down. To her knowledge, nobody seemed to live there. Sometimes she questioned why it hasn't been repurposed yet. She eyes the building carefully, noticing that it was already half torn down. Large logs poked out towards the pathway. She gently nudges her horse's side so that it could pick up speed. She didn't like the look of this...

She catches movement on the corner of her eye, a figure seemed to be lifting itself upon the nearest log. But before she can properly see the figure it suddenly jumps forward and slams into her. The two fall off the startled horse, which takes off running.

Whenever it was instinctive or just dumb luck, Gwen had managed to wrestle the figure off of her. She slowly rises to her feet and places a hand on the hilt of her sword. The figure slowly rises to his feet and with a horrified gasp, Gwen realizes that she recognizes this man.

"Miss me, princess?" Winters asks. "I told you I would be back. Miss Talla ordered me to properly finish the job." Gwen notices a small twitch in his left shoulder, so she quickly draws out her sword at the same time he draws his. "Interesting" Winters whispers under his breath before charging towards her. Right away, Gwen realizes that she is at a serious disadvantage. Miraculously, her reflexes were still sharp, but her strength and endurance had grown weaker. It didn't take long for her to be winded. Winters seemed to pick up on this quickly, so he continued to force her back. Fighting him brought back old terrifying memories. The Cloaks were dangerous fighters. Oftentimes, they had numbers, so they could risk using almost all of their energy in one fight. They won by overwhelming their opponent. It also didn't help that they were lead by fearless leaders. To them, no opponent was too strong to face.

It wasn't until her back was pressed against a wall that Gwen realizes that she was in trouble. Her bow was on her horse. But even if she had her bow, it would do her no good. He was too close for her to actually do any damage. She barely had enough energy to defend herself, much less, put him on the offensive. She hated to say it, but there weren't many options left. It was either fight, and hope for a miracle, or run, and hope she could somehow outrun him.

"This was very disheartening, I was hoping for an actual fight. No matter, hold still princess, Talla requested that I cleanly cut off your head." He suddenly pales, seemingly hearing something that Gwen can't "Lucky you... help is on the way. We'll finish this another day." He takes a step away from her but pauses by the treeline. "You better be prepared" he warns before running away. It wasn't until he was completely out of sight that Gwen is able to recognize the tremble in her hands. She had been frozen in shock. How far had she fallen from grace? It dawns on her that she is no longer the same fearless woman she once was.

That's when she hears it, the sound of oncoming horses. Her heart stops for a split second at the realization that it was most likely another invasion. She shoves herself off the wall and takes off running. Meeting her horse about halfway to the barracks and riding the rest of the way back.

"Prepare for battle!" She calls. To her credit, she manages to hide the fear in her voice. She doesn't explain further, she turns her horse around and rides straight towards the approaching army. Horns go off behind her, signaling to the army and the kingdom about the approaching threat.

"Enough you two!" Sage spits out. "There is no need for the two of you to bite off eachother's heads! Especially now!" She grabs ahold of Morgan's arm, her grip was much tighter than she intended. "Let's all just calm down, let's go Morgan. I'll escort you to the barracks. I need to talk with Gwen anyway." She turns back to Maddy. "Leaf will be here soon, I'll trust that you'll be okay on your own until then." With that final note, she leads Morgan away from Maddy and towards the barracks.

"I was too young" Asher admits. "And in a weakened state due to Maci's powers- she used her ability to permanently disable my powers. All I remember is laying in a hospital bed with my father next to me. Then waking up one day to my father flatlining. I thought it was a natural death, his powers were also disabled and he seemed to be weaker than me. But lter, a stylist had appeared and teleported me out of there. He explained to me that his death was no accident... Amongst other things." Asher shuts his eyes and winces at the memory. "I wish he never told me the truth"
