Were her intentions that obvious? Or was Cree a good guesser? She had to admit, it was suspicious of her to approach him acting all friendly for no real reason. Still, she was hoping Cree would play along to her antics just a little bit. She didn't like having to show her hand until she knew it was safe.

Honesty is the best policy, right? Tayla hesitates, trying to think about how she should phrase her next question. "I know you don't know me too well. So you don't have any reason to trust me, but I need some help." She extends a hand towards Charlie. "I need help protecting her in the arena and I couldn't help but notice your-" she glances at the ground, where a puddle of blood still lay. "Power..." she hesitates again. "I have a feeling that the two of us could work well together and I would like an opportunity to allow you to trust and work with me."

"You don't need to look so nervous, I'm not here to fight. I'm not even here to talk if you don't wish to" she tells Cree while stopping a distance in front of him. "I couldn't help but notice you were standing alone. I was just wondering if you wanted some company." This wasn't a total lie, but it wasn't the full truth. In all reality, Tayla wanted to see whenever or not she could trust Cree before she would offer up an alliance to him. She can't help but glance curiously at his mask, but she doesn't ask about it.

It wasn't her lack of appearance on the train that has struck Tayla- she hadn't talked to anyone on the train other than Charlie anyway. It was the angelic girl's sudden appearance that Tayla found strange. She couldn't say she remembered every tribute that had walked onstage, but Tayla was positive that she would have remembered that girl in particular.

"Why don't you go chat with her. See if you can become friends with her?" Tayla asks Charlie. "I'll stay close-" she pauses, catching movement on the corner of her eye. She notices Cree standing a distance away from them. Something about him was intriguing to her, and it wasn't because of the way he looked. Tayla had a gift, she seemed to be able to easily find others that were like her. She wouldn't go as far as to say that Cree was in the same type of work as her, but there had to be some sort of similarity between the two.

Also, whenever she liked it or not, Tayla needed to prepare for the arena. She was confident in her abilities to protect herself and Charlie alone, but you could never go wrong with relying on others. "I'll just be right over there" she informs Charlie while nodding towards Cree. She begins to cautiously make her way over to him, she was unsure on how he would react to her suddenly approaching him.

There was a shameful look in Tayla's eyes when she noticed the hopeful look that filled Charlie's gaze. She glances away quickly and turns her back to the girl to save her from the truth. There wasn't a lot to be hopeful about. Tayla was essentially coming into this blind. She knew what to expect, but at the same time, she didn't. She had been so focused on finding Ashley, that she had forgotten that she would later have to fight other tributes to the death. Tayla wasn't quite sure if she could do that. The other tributes were victims of circumstance. As far as she knows, they were good people... Even that person Cree, she shouldn't be so quick to judge him off his intimating looks. Killing them would go against everything she stood for.

It's only when the train lurches into a sudden hault does Tayla turn back to face Charlie. She returns the look with a half smile and a build-up of newfound confidence in her eyes. She'd have to figure out that challenge later. For now, she had to focus on full-filling her promise.

She doesn't get very far. She had only taken a few steps off the train when a hand grabs her arm and pulls her in. "Tayla! Welcome! Welcome!" Her stylist chirps as she struggles to pull away from the sudden hug. But her stylist had a grip of steel and it felt impossible to escape. "I'm so excited to have an opportunity to be your stylist! So what will it be!?" He pulls away only slightly to cup her face and examine her frame. "A pretty princess perhaps? Hmm, no, you couldn't pull it off with that murderous look in your eyes! A fierce warrior? Maybe." He places a hand thoughtfully on his chin and mumbles out a few hmms as he thinks. "I got it!" He shouts while snapping a finger. "I do hope it turns out! This is actually my first time using make-up and picking out outfits!" He admits to her with a chuckle. "Come on! Come on!" He shouts as he leads her to their room.
...

Tayla had to admit, she was rather surprised with her stylist's boldness in choosing her outfit. He had put a simple gown on her with matching high heels. After that, he placed a cloak to lay unzipped on her shoulders. To her astonishment, it was a cloak from a previous games. There was still blood stained on it! Half hidden under her cloak, was a gun belt, with fake revolvers stuffed in the belt. "I hope you like it!" Her stylist shouts from the doorway. "I forsee something gentle in you Tayla. You aren't a wolf in sheep's clothing. Rather a lamb in wolf's clothing. A gentle soul with a hardened shell. I won't press and ask if my vision is correct... All I hope is that I accurately caught that vision." Tayla turns towards her stylist, she was speechless, utterly shocked by her stylist's ability to accurately read her. Without thinking, she nods, confirming what he said. Even if, realistically, she didn't fully agree. "Excellent! Let's get you outside! I want others to be able to witness this!"

"Excellent. Thank you for agreeing to take up this job-" Sage felt like she should add this, even though Eric didn't have much of a choice in the first place. "-Be at her door bright and early and stay by her side, even if she tries to fight it. If she has any problems, she can take them up with me." Sage nods at Eric respectfully and turns to leave. "That's all. You're free to do whatever in the meantime."

"Nothing for me specifically" Sage responds. She pauses for a moment before continuing. "I noticed Gwen talking to you earlier. Whatever orders she gave you can be dismissed. I have a new job for you: I am promoting you to become Tani's bodyguard" Sage explains. "The recent attack is nothing but a cruel reminder that the Cloaks can and will strike at any moment. Whatever happens, we have to ensure that Tani survives this war."

There wasn't enough time for Tayla to pity herself. From a strategic point of view, this would make her look weak. Based on her research, their actions would constantly be watched and later, scored. Tayla had to be careful and stay in the middle. She could not reveal her true strength and had to allow herself to show weakness.

She is up on her feet within seconds when she hears a door slam open. Her eyes pass over the table of food and she envisions herself using one of the trays as a possible weapon to defend herself with. She turns to the door, expecting there to be trouble.

But there wasn't trouble, at least, not any sort of trouble that would be threatening to her. She watches as Charlie is shoved into the room and practically thrown to the ground. Charlie manages to stand up on her own before Tayla can even make a move to assist her.

Once again, Tayla eyes the table. She was quickly warming up to the idea of hitting a Peacekeeper with one of those metal trays. But the burning pain at her side reminds her that she is both outnumbered and out-armed. She returns her gaze to Charlie, who wasn't paying attention to her and seemed to be desperately looking around. She takes a step towards her and feels her foot hit something. She glances down to see Charlie's fanny pack at her feet. "Looking for this?" Tayla asks as she picks up the fanny pack and holds it out to the girl. She fights for something to say after that but comes up blank. She really wasn't any good with kids. She was better at saving them.

The distressed shouts that came from the other tributes were unbearable to Tayla. She hadn't been unaffected by the rule change and had entered the train without a fight. But now she was seeing how affected the others were by this rule change and now she wished that she would've gave them a bit of a struggle simply out of spite.

You can't change the past, but your actions now could impact the future. She sighs and glaces down at her half open palm, staring down at the photo that Ashley's mom had given her. She had yet to come up with a plan, but a lot of that could be credited to the unknowns. She had assumed that security would be tight, but how tight was it? Would they be allowed to roam the halls freely? All of that was unknown to her. Maybe desperately coming up with a plan right now shouldn't matter to her right now.

What should matter was that a nuisance called a Peacekeeper had approached her. He was shooing her away from her spot and towards what she assumed would be a packed car. She clenches the hand holding the photo and turns her head to stare at the Peacekeeper with a bemused expression. Even though her instincts caution her against it she asks:

"I'm sorry? Were you talking to me?" A cruel smile slowly creeps onto the Peacekeeper's face. Tayla's act of intimation hadn't worked one bit. His hand falls towards his baton and Tayla can't help but observe how slow his movements were. If this were a duel, I would've easily outdrew you.

But this wasn't a duel. This was nothing but an unfair fight. Tayla couldn't fight back, especially not in this dress. But she was prideful and refused to back down now. So she crosses her arms and takes a step forward, although she is careful to stay out of hitting range. "Listen, I'm not in the mood to deal wi-" her words are cut out by a sudden impact at her side. The hit wasn't too hard, it was most likely from her attacker underestimating her strength. But still, it hurt.

Tayla had lost the photograph mid-fall and was forced to ignore the cruel laughter above her as she frantically searched for it. Tayla's first thought wasn't: how fast is this guy? Instead her first thought was: would they have done that if they knew who I really am? She manages to snatch up the photograph just in time, because the Peacekeeper had roughly grabbed her arm and was half dragging her to a new car. It dawns on her that there had been two Peacekeepers in her previous car. B*stard snuck up behind me Tayla thinks to herself with a clenched jaw.

She is shoved onto a new car, one with food in it and left standing in her place. With a half damaged ego, Tayla moves to one of the chairs and sits down. She keeps her head low to hide the embarrassed look on her face. Great job Tayla, real smooth. You really showed them there.

The next few moments seem to pass by rather quickly. Tayla does her best to keep her eyes forward. She isn't scared, but she forces herself act frightened. She releases Charlie's hand to clench and unclench her fist. She also sways around in what could be described as a nervous tick.

There were already a few eyes on her. But there would be more if she didn't appear concerned. If she acted normal, then there wouldn't be a reason to keep an eye on her. For now, her plan appeared to be working. Until a young boy steps onstage.

Her whole demeanor changes. Her 'nervous ticks' immediately stop. The rage in her eyes was unsettling as she glares between Ibaraki and the crowd. Was nobody going to take this kids place? Were they seriously okay with their own safety that they would allow a child to die!?

Her thoughts are cut short when a new face appears onstage. Cree was his name. The first thing that stood out to her was his size. She curses outloud and quickly looks away. There was no way she could win against a person like that. He looked strong enough as it was, there was no telling what else he had up his sleeves. What have I gotten myself into? She wonders.

It happens without thought. Tayla quickly makes the decision to take Charlie's place. She opens her mouth to object but her words are drowned out by a sudden scream. Tayla turns her head towards the scream to find a familiar family clutching each other. It dawns on her that it's the family from earlier, with the lone ten-year-old girl. Was the girl chosen? Was that actually allowed? Surely there was a rule against this. Yet nobody seemed fazed by this girl being picked.

"I'm sorry" she whispers to Charlie. She wanted to take her place, but Charlie looked like she could hold herself much better than this younger stranger. "I volunteer as tribute!" She shouts out. For a split second, there is silence. For some reason, Tayla had expected a much bigger reaction. Maybe it had something to do with the fact she was willingly throwing herself into the lion's den. This was practically suicide, even to someone like her.

A few eyes fall on her before they turn back to the stage. The only eyes that remain on her were from the Peacekeepers. Tayla has to remind herself that these Peacekeepers only think of her as Tayla Mckee and not Nemesis. No, they weren't staring at her because they knew her, rather, they were preparing for her to flee or impatiently waiting for her to walk on stage.

"Hey Charlie, we have to get moving" Tayla whispers to her. "Don't be afraid, stay strong, everything will be okay," Tayla tells Charlie as she leads her onstage. The sooner they moved the sooner people would look away and allow themselves to get immersed in their own worries. Tayla had intended to stay invisible but that plan quickly failed. Nonetheless, she could improvise and adapt. The job wasn't over yet.

One look at the peacekeepers gathering towards townhall is enough to send alarm bells off in Tayla's head. Compared to her, they were armed to the teeth. They are all armed with batons and tasers, but a few have white assault rifles and submachine guns. For the third time today, she has to remind herself that she is weaponless. She was extremely vulnerable to an attack. She was nothing without a weapon.

I made a mistake... I shouldn't be here! Tayla quickly turns around and walks away from town hall. She'll apologize to the mother later. Maybe there is a way to get her daughter back without throwing herself to the wolves.

Her attention is directed to shouting on her left. A moment later, a younger girl is quite literally pushed out of her house. Tayla opens her mouth to shout profanities at the woman, but the door slams shut before she has the opportunity to do that. The young girl quickly fixes herself up but doesn't move after that. The fearful look in her eyes is a dead giveaway that she is terrified.

Don't do it! Don't do it! Don't do it! Her brain screams. Yet her feet move on their own accord. Before she knows it, she is standing over the girl, unknowingly glaring down at her. "Don't be afraid" she says with a surprising amount of warmth in her voice. "There is nothing to be afraid of, let's walk together. Everything will be okay." The lie is surprisingly convincing, especially considering the fact that Tayla doesn't believe a single word. But she would be cruel to reveal all of this to Charlie.

Even though she was fully clothed, Tayla couldn't help but feel naked without her weapons. But she had no other choice. She had to blend in with the crowd, and she couldn't blend in very well if she were walking around with a rifle slung over her shoulder.

Tayla wasn't prepared for the Reaping. For the past few years, she had been able to avoid attending the Reaping. Under the eyes of the law, Tayla was a ghost. She was last seen living with her grandpa, then the incident happened. After that, there were no more records of her. Any logical person would believe that, that had been when she'd died. Yet here she was, somehow she was still kicking.

She had borrowed a dress from her client. It felt tight against her larger more muscular frame. The dress was a simple thing, a black knee-lengthed outfit. She was constantly afraid that it would tear whenever she walked.

There were a few families awake and walking near her. She tries to ignore them but can't stop her eyes from drifting over to the closest ones. Her heart breaks when she watches mothers and fathers embrace their scared children. Knowing who she is now, would her parents still embrace her if they were still alive?

Tayla chases away these thoughts by focusing on the job. Clenched in her right hand was a mostly faded photo of a girl- Ashley Rose was her name. Tayla had memorized the photo down to its last detail. Still, it felt wrong to not bring it with her. She had to figure out how she would find Ashley and then how they would escape. Her scheming is cut short by the sight of a lone girl standing outside on her porch. The girl looked to be about ten years old, the same age Tayla was when her family had been-... attacked.

Tayla pauses by the house and stares at the girl. Why was she alone? Tayla knew better than any the dangers of being alone. Reflexively, her hand falls behind her back, where a pistol was usually hidden in the waist of her pants. Instead, her hand rubs against the fabric of her dress and she is reminded that she is weaponless. But to her relief, the girl's parents step outside and lead the girl down the steps. Tayla quickly lowers her head and keeps on walking in the hopes that the girl's parents wouldn't notice her. Stay invisible and focus Tayla reminds herself.

Tayla Mckee
Show hidden content

~"I would, and I will. You know my theory. Plunge in. Face the fear head-on. Stay on the offense." (-Koethi Zan)~

Gender: Female

Age: 19

Occupation: Vigilante

Personality: Tough, quiet, and deceiving. Tayla could lie her way out of anything. "It's all about adding a few half-truths within your lie." Tayla comes off as cold-hearted and intimating; but deep down, she is a kind-hearted person. She is simply too kind. She'll do the ultimate sin of killing someone if it means protecting an innocent person.

Appearance: Tayla is quite tall, standing at about 5'7. She has wavy shoulder-length strawberry blonde hair and light brown eyes. She has a heart-shaped face with tan skin and light freckling on her nose. She has a horizontal scar on her right cheek. Because of her job, she usually wears whatever is suitable to best camouflage within her environment. Whenever it's fitting in with civilians in a busy city or wearing camo in a woodsy area, Tayla doesn't have the luxury to choose her own style.

Backstory: Tayla lived a normal life up until her whole family was murdered. She would later find out it was by her father's mistress, who wanted revenge because her father suddenly broke up with her, which made her lose a large income. She came out of it with only a scar- a gunshot wound that had just grazed her face. She was sent to live with her grandpa who taught her how to defend herself and shoot a gun.
She took interest in the training and would work day and night with her grandpa to be as good as possible. That's when she learned that her grandpa was once a vigilante. He took her under his wing and together, they tracked down her family's killer.
Tayla was a better person then and let their killer live. A mistake, because she tracked them down and killed her grandpa. In a matter of self-defense, Tayla was forced to kill her father's mistress.
Now alone, Tayla struggled to survive on her own. Within her struggles, she saw how dark the world was and vowed to cleanse the world of its evil.

Skills: Tayla is a weapons master. She is pretty decent at knife and ax throwing, but excellent at sharpshooting. She could probably outshoot a sniper by simply using a pistol. She is an incredibly dangerous enemy to face, especially when you cannot see her.

Weaknesses: (1): Tayla is pretty strong for her age. She could hold her own in a fight against an inexperienced fighter. But, if she fights someone with a bit of training, it's all over for her. Tayla is used to overwhelming her opponent from a distance, no need to get her hands dirty. If her opponent can catch her by surprise and get close to her, she'll be done for.
(2): Tayla has an intense fear of water because she almost drowned when she a kid. She avoids any waist deep water.

Status: Alive

Was your character picked or volunteered? Volunteered. She has managed to stay completely under the radar in most of her professional life. Starting up was difficult, because she had to physically find people. Either by looking out for trouble on the streets or waiting for illegal activity to be discovered online. She knew when people needed help and tracked them down whenever she was called. Online, she was known as Nemesis. She would track people down by tracking that keyword and patiently wait for it to be used. If someone used Nemesis in a way to call out to her, she would find them.
Back to the story. She approached a young mother who claimed to have a daughter that was sent to the Capitol as an Avox. The mother just wanted her daughter back and heard that Tayla could get things done. Tayla agrees, but will quickly realize that she bit off more than she can chew

NPC- Ashley Rose
Show hidden content

Gender: Female

Age: Twelve

Occupation: Avox (a capital traitor). Ashley isn't the traitor, rather, her mother was. The Capitol decided that taking away Ashley would be the better punishment.

Appearance: She is 5'4 with short brown hair and green eyes. It was almost dumb luck that she looks like an older version of herself in the photo her mom provided.

Status: Alive

Note: She won't appear very often in this RP.

Roleplay

News: 6/13/20
Anyone who roleplays with me knows that I rarely reuse old characters in new roleplays. I've decided to put an end to this and actually start creating OCs, I'm no longer creative enough to always create new characters. Over the next few hours, days, weeks, months(?) I am going to be adding my new mains down below.

Retired characters:
*From here on out, I'll be retiring almost all of my characters, but there are some noteworthy ones that I would like to mention

1.) Gwen Fletcher and Sage Brooker: These two ladies made an appearance only in the Haven of Beast trilogy. RoyalGecko and I plan on ending this trilogy so it seems fitting that I retire these characters with the roleplay. Like most of my characters, they started out completely undeveloped, really only an idea. But the longer I used them, the more developed they became. To me, Gwen has only been a symbol of perseverance while Sage has been a symbol of strength
2.) More coming soon...

For upcoming characters...

The walk back to their shared home was quiet, something Sage silently appreciated. She had too much stuff to work out in her head. She drops Maddy off at the bungalow and after confirming that Maddy would be okay by herself she steps back outside.

The day may be over, but Sage couldn't rest. There was still too much work to be done. Not too far away, she spots Eric outside his bungalow and remembers that she had something to discuss with him, so she quickly makes her way over to him.

The answer was quite dissatisfying to Sage, but she doesn't voice her opinion. She knows that nothing she can say will change Maddy's mind. She just has to be thankful that Maddy's vengeance is fueled with good intentions.

"Don't forget that you don't have to destroy Talla alone. You have two kingdoms standing besides you. You can't protect the ones you love if you're dead." Sage stands up and stretches. "When the time comes I'll ensure that you are the one to finish off Talla. But for now, trust in the process, be patient."

Sage is silent for a moment so that Maddy can have some time to mull over her words. She glances up at the darkening sky and says "we should get inside and get some rest. We're going to have a long day ahead of us."

"You want revenge right?" Sage shakes her head again, the disappointed was clear on her face. "Talla has caused a lot of people quite a bit of pain. Her time will come, Tani, Gwen, Irida and I will make sure of that. But you can't lose yourself within your fury. You have love, true love. That's not something you can find very often. You can't throw it away just to speed up fate."

Sage turns towards the water again, her eyes lowering to the ground. "I've been in love once. Many, many years ago. Way before you were even alive. I had all the time in the world to be with him, but I got caught up in my duties. I lost the time that I should've spent with him. He ended up dying to a terrible sickness." Sage sighs and glaces over at Maddy. "What I'm trying to say is that you shouldn't throw away what you already have. You should reconsider your priorities."
...

Just over Irida's shoulder is Winters. He sits cross legged on a barrel. His cunning gaze immediately latch onto Gwen once she is within earshot. He flashes an arrogant smile towards her. "Why hello princess, I'm sure glad you finally decided to join us" Winters tells Gwen. When she doesn't respond he adds: "Hm, you seem to look a bit better than before. There is new life in your eyes! It's quite relieving to see." Gwen glances up at Winters, her brow furrowing as she struggles to understand if Winters was being genuine or not. The tension quickly thickens between them.

Both Winters and Gwen jump in surprise when Irida suddenly stomps on the ground, her boot making a surprisingly loud sound on the floor. "Alright you two that's enough" Irida snaps. "Now out of all times is the most important time to restrain yourselves and try not to kill eachother." Her back was to the both of them so that she could hide her worried look. "I just got word that my reinforcements are late. Two days late to be exact."

A shocked look falls on Gwen's and Winters' faces. All three of them were thinking the same thing, all expecting the worse. "We are not going to take this" Irida continues. "If they really were attacked, then that will be the last time the Mountain Men do this." She turns around now, her hardened expression was back on her face. "Gwen, we will be increasing the intensity of training within our armies." She faces Winters now, who flinches under her harsh look "you will be joining us. You've been with the Mountain Men for awhile. It's time that Telmar learns their fighting tactics and how to defend themselves against it."

Irida begins pacing around again, her head was tilted up at the sky, her eyes sharpening as she begins to form a plan in her head. "I'll be sending out a small patrol to retrieve the reinforcements. No more after that. We are going to need as many hands as possible if we wish to win this war. Now, both of you rest up. We have a long few weeks ahead. You're dismissed."

"You should talk to Tani." The words spill out quickly, almost as if they came out without thought. Sage's eyes widen when she suddenly realizes that she had actually said that outloud. But nothing could be done about that, it's impossible to take back one's words.

"You two were always so close" Sage adds as she sits down next to Maddy. "Together, you and Tani are an unstoppable force. It breaks my heart to see you two apart, to see you hurting. I know that you want nothing more than to reconnect with her." She sighs and places a hand on her forehead. "Like it or not, we have found ourselves to be in the middle of a war again. We are already facing enough enemies. We can't afford to create anymore with the ones closest to us."
...

The silence was unbearably awkward for Gwen. She knew she was Eric's general, but she couldn't help but feel like a stranger to him. She use to be close to each solider in her army. But now, her relationship with her army has fallen. She was still surprised that they still considered her to be their leader. She looks up at the sky, her gaze softening as she thinks of Dylan. I think it's time that I stop allowing myself to feel guilty. It's time that I finally let you go, finally let you rest in peace. My people need me. I'm sure you'd understand.

"Take everything I said into consideration." She tells Eric. "I'll see you at training." She walks away and moves towards a soldier; who leads her to Irida. The change is small, but for once, Gwen manages to carry herself with her old strength.
...

The frustration was clear on Irida's face. She had begun to curse silently to herself as she paces around the loading dock. She had just received some terrible news. Their reinforcements were late, they were scheduled to arrive two days ago. Yet nobody has heard a word from them. She looks up upon hearing footsteps. She turns around to look at Gwen.
