"Tayla Mckee" a voice calls from the loudspeaker above. Tayla takes a deep breath, then slowly stands up. Over the past few days, she had been doing nothing but holding back on true strength. It was really starting to impact how people viewed her. She noticed some (NPC) tributes talking poorly about her. At first it was whispers, but then they started confronting her and boasting about how they were going to target her first in the arena. It also reflected poorly on how Ashley saw her. Those bullies had a habit of targeting her whenever Ashley was near. But holding back would be worth it now. These Gamemakers would be in for a shock.

"It's not Tayla now, it's Nemesis" she mutters under her breath as she steps into the room. She was fed up with the Capitol. Fed up with how they treated its citizens, what they've done to countless families, to Ashley. She wanted nothing more than to make them fear her. Because she was somebody to fear.

She steps into the room and immediately walks over to the weapons stand. She wasn't expecting much. At the very best, a bow with a few arrows. But to her astonishment, she finds a pistol on the weapons stands with a few boxes of ammo next to it. She gingerly picks it up and inspects it. The pistol was a simple thing, nothing too special, it was exactly what Tayla was hoping for. She can feel eyes fall on her, mostly from the Peacemakers.

She takes a few steps back and aims it at some targets. She doesn't even need to look into the scope. Her vision suddenly changes. It's almost like a video game. She knows exactly where to point her gun and when to fire. She only needs a few seconds to aim and fire. Trusting that her shot was a bulls-eye, she points to the next target, then a new one that was further away. Each time she pauses for only a heartbeat, just long enough for the Gamemakers to see that she had landed each shot at the bullseye with little effort.

She glances at the Gamemakers in the corner of her eye. She had imagined that they'd be impressed, instead, they look bored. A mischievous smile appears on her face. Not impressed huh? She points her gun up to the ceiling, this time, she barely even glances at her target. She fires at all the lights. The shots were loud, echoing around the room as metal clashes with steel, glass, and heat. Sparks and glass fall from the ceiling, it would almost be beautiful if it weren't for how startlingly loud it was whenever a bullet made contact with one of the bulbs.

She continues until there are only a few lightbulbs hanging above her. She loads the chamber a final time and aims at the Gamemakers. She watches as their surprised looks quickly turn to terror as she fires the rest of the bullets at the Gamemakers. Of course, none of them pass through the barrier. But they still flinch away as if they've been hit.

She throws the gun aside, never once breaking her gaze away from the Gamemakers. "Now, imagine someone firing at you with that kind of accuracy, except now you aren't aware of their presence..." she starts to walk away but pauses when her whole body is concealed by the darkness in the room. "-... I'll remember your faces." She promises before finally leaving.

There was no telling whenever or not Tayla could trust Ace. She refused to see him as trustworthy just because he had put the knife down earlier. That must be how Cree and Ibaraki see me. How can I expect them to trust me simply by striking up once honest conversation? It was yet another reminder that she would need to talk to them. Get them to open up to her a bit more. Only to crush their hearts if and when you eventually leave the capitol? a dark voice asks her. Tayla shakes this thought away. She couldn't allow herself to feel guilty. She had a job to do, staying behind or taking them with her would be too risky.

It was only when they were called into the cafeteria when Tayla moves away from her spot. She was relieved to see that she could walk without being in too much pain, indicating that she wasn't seriously injured. It would still take a few days for her to be back to her old self though.

Tayla eats in silence, having been deep in her thoughts. She didn't even notice the dispute until Akane slammed her hand down on the table, startling her out of her thoughts. She gazes disapprovingly at the blonde from the corner of her eye, but other than that, she does nothing. She tenses up when she realizes that Ace had joined in, but relaxes when she realizes that he wasn't posing at a threat to them. It seemed like Akane and Ace both seemed to have the situation under control. For now, it was a verbal shouting match. Unless it got physical, Tayla didn't care about getting involved. She glaces away from the girl and continues silently eating her food.

Her eyes widen when she hears the sudden sound of a tribute being hit. She turns around only to find Charlie clutching her face. She slowly stands up, glaring at the blonde girl before turning her attention to Charlie. She races over to Charlie, barely even noticing the pain in her side as the runs the short few steps over to Charlie. "What happened?" She practically growls the words as she gazes at Akane with a furious look. "Who did this to her?" She asks with terrifying calmness.

It took Tayla awhile to realize that she was being watched. She had glanced over at the knife throwing station with a sense of lounging. She was tired of allowing her pride to be attacked. She wanted nothing more than to show everyone what she could really do. Show them that she was not someone who was weak and reckless. But she couldn't do that. Both because it would go against her plan but also because she didn't know if she could physically carry herself over there to throw accurately enough.

That's when she spots Ace. She didn't want to read into his intentions too much, but she really wasn't liking the way he was staring at her while holding that dagger. She gives him a challenging look while raising her eyebrows a clear I wouldn't do that if I were you look.

Tayla was at a disadvantage against her opponent. Unlike most people in this universe, Tayla didn't really have a power. Her strength came from a skill that she had trained for years. Even if her skill did count as a power, it was rendered useless in a fist fight and it was apparent that her opponent had a specialty in hand on hand combat.

His firsts were glowing and the moment he struck her, her she realized that it was a harder hit compared to a normal person's. After blocking only a few hits, Tayla could've swore that her arm was broken. It wasn't, but it certainly felt that way. She glares at her opponent through clenched teeth and charges towards him. She couldn't block forever, eventually he would wear her down enough to render her defenseless. That must be what he was planning on doing, what he always did in a fight. Was he like her? Someone who was not use to their target fighting back?

Her theory was correct, she manages to land a punch at his cheek. It would've been his nose if not for the fact that he reflexively moved his face just in time. He blinks a few times, as if surprised that she had fought back. Tayla uses his hesitance against him and kicks behind his knee, which sends him crashing ground. As Tayla stands over him, she can't help but wonder is this really it? She didn't intend to spar someone and immediately win. She had wanted to lose. She glances towards one of the cameras, wondering whenever or not there were Gamemakers watching. If there were, what were they thinking? Did they think was strong? She hoped not.

With her being distracted, she doesn't notice that her opponent had slowly risen onto his feet. He had been putting a lot of weight onto his uninjured leg. He lands a punch at her bruised side, throwing in a lot more power that was probably necessary. Tayla takes a step away, clutching her side and swallowing down a agonized scream. But she wasn't able to hide her pained gasps. She stares at the boy, waiting in anticipation for him to attack while she tried to compose herself.

"We're even now" her opponent growls. "I think that's enough. I'm afraid I'll accidentally kill you if we continue. We don't need any tributes dying on us, it'll ruin the show" he adds with a cruel smile. His pathetic words would have some sort of meaning to Tayla if it weren't for the fact that he had to limp off the mat. Tayla feels a cruel sense of pride knowing that she did that to him. She forces herself to walk away normally, trying to hide just how much pain she was in. She had to hold her breath to do it, but it seemed to work, because the trainer looked furious to see her walk away seemingly alright. Tayla chooses a spot on a wall to lean on and silently watches the other tributes train.

Once again, Tayla finds herself at a crossroad. She noticed that both Cree and Ibaraki were together. Should she approach them? She wouldn't want to interrupt their conversation, but perhaps she could strike some new conversation with them? But then what would she talk about? Would that even help them warm up to her?

She glances over at the training mats, noticing that there was a mat open for anyone's use. She should also put up an image for the Capitol. This would be a poor image, but it would be better than purposely scoring high and making herself a threat.

She glances back and forth, before ultimately settling on training. She would have plenty of time to chat with the two boys. It would be best to it when they weren't already deep in a conversation.

Unlike Tyler, her request for a trainer was granted without any pushback. Her opponent was a boy a few years older than her. He was pretty muscular, but nearly as muscular as Tyler's opponent. She didn't envy Tyler one bit. She returns her focus to her opponent and tries to remember the few self defense moves her grandpa taught her when she was young.

Block any attack by keeping an arm up in front of you. If needed, bend your back slightly and raise both arms up. To punch you simply curl your fingers into your palm and keep your thumb on the outside. You want to punch with the first two knuckles. Tayla cringes to herself, realizing that her knowledge was extremely limited. Still, technique didn't matter that much right? In the end, it's about physical strength and endurance-

While she was distracted by her thoughts, her opponent had been doing a one armed hand stand and was starting to do push-ups. Realizing that she was watching and waiting to fight, her opponent swings his legs backwards, his body follows his motions and he ends up landing a backflip.

Tayla refuses to be intimated. She didn't care if her opponent was stronger and/or more skilled. She had to realize that she wasn't the best at everything. In order to survive, she had to know how to best the unbeatable.

Both of their eyes meet, both gazes sharpened when they realize that the other wasn't intimated. It was apparent to both that this wasn't going to be a clean fight.

It only took one Peacekeeper to subdue Tayla, mostly because she realized that there would be no point in fighting them. She wouldn't mind threatening one or two at once, but a whole patrol of Peacekeepers was a different story.

Tayla mostly ignored the Peacekeeper's orders. She found her current outfit to be far more comfortable than the new required outfits. She would take her chances with refusing this order. Tayla had to show some sort of backbone, the last thing she wanted was to seem like a push-over. She had to be right in the middle- not a threat but also not a pushover. She had to stop making herself stand out and stick to her plans.

Ibaraki's words were surpring to her, but she refused to take this as a sign that he was warming up to her. Still, maybe this was some sort of progress? Since she wasn't planning on changing, she was the first one in the gym. She uses this time to walk around the empty gym and examine the area, specifically, the camera angles. As well as the available training areas. She ignored the bows and throwing knives, there was no use showing her hand so early. No, she would only show her true strength when someone became a threat to her. Maybe she could stick to what she is good at and go to the survival areas? She could just act like she had no idea what she was doing. Otherwise she could strengthen her weaknesses and spar one of the trainers?

She suddenly stops pacing around when she notices a figure standing by the entrance. It was Ashley, who had an armload of dishes. Before Tayla can open her mouth to say something to her, Ashley quickly turns around and leaves.

"This isn't going to go anywhere huh?" Tayla asks. All she wanted to do was ensure that blood wouldn't be spilled in front of the younger tributes. But this coward of a tribute was really making her want to change her mind. "How about we try something different?" Tayla releases Tyler, but sticks close just in case he decides to suddenly lounge towards the boy. "It's clear to me that you deserve a beating. You did hurt him afterall, I'm assuming it was also unprovoked" she glances around the room to see who was here. That's when she notices Ibaraki's appearance, although she doesn't acknowledge it.

"You're lucky that there are people here who I'm trying to protect" she spits out venomously. "So how about this? I'll give you thirty seconds to run, after that, I will no longer interfere in this mess. There is no use trying to save you. If there were a choice, I'm positive that this boy would sooner tear all of us limb from limb to get to you rather than allow you to walk away unscathed. Unfortunately for you, there are lives here that I value and wish to protect by any means necessary." She leans down over the tribute, her gaze quickly darkening as she stared down at the coward. "If there is a next time... I would recommend thinking before you hurt somebody. That's on you for unknowingly hurting a bigger fish."

"He hurt you huh?" Tayla asks quietly. "I can understand wanting revenge. I'm the last person who should be able to judge others for revenge. Still, consider the practicality of getting revenge now." Tayla continues, no longer caring whenever or not he is listening to her. "If you want revenge that much, then fine. I'll help you get it back later" she lies "but I can't allow you to hurt that tribute when there are young eyes around." Sucking in a nervous breath, Tayla reaches for Tyler's non-corrupted arm. She knew that this was dangerous, possibly a fatal error, but she had to do something.

After taking one look at the enraged Tribute and what he managed to do to the poor door, Tayla quickly regrets stepping forward to help the poor tribute. At this point, she would happily take a Peacekeeper instead of this guy. Did the tribute even deserve her help?

"Let's not lose our heads" the words spill out without thought. Without realizing it, Tayla had taken another few steps forward, closer to the enraged tribute. "You'll have plenty of time to seek revenge in the arena if that's what you wish to do. But unfortunately, you won't be able to get your revenge now, unless you fancy an ambush from some Peacekeepers?" Tayla glances towards the door and adds "I'd estimate that you only have about a minute before a few enter this cafeteria. Or do you plan on killing this tribute and then preparing for a counter attack in that short amount of time?"

"No need to apologise, although next time you have a question, I would recommend that you don't follow us and instead grab out attention right away" Gwen responds evenly. Her brow furrows slightly at the mention of him looking for Tani. Although she wants to press, she decides against it, she could tell that Irida was becoming impatient. "I believe Tani is still at her bungalow. You can check there. Otherwise, she may be near Sage's bungalow" Gwen replies. "Best of luck for you finding her." With those final, and rather quick parting words, the three turn their horses around and continue moving forward.

"That's fair" Tayla responds while biting into her bagel. "Still, food is food." She adds. "A lie?" Tayla asks. She shakes her head and says "maybe you are picking up on my sarcasm from earlier?" Even with her playing it off, Tayla still couldn't help but feel a shiver move down her spine. First her stylist, and now this? At least none of them confronted her any further.

Her attention is stolen away from Faith when she hears what sounds like a fight coming down the hallway ahead. Tayla jumps in surprised when a panicked tribute enters the cafeteria, screaming and begging for help. She takes a step forward, expecting the trouble to be a Peacemaker. I'm getting real tired of these d*mn Peacekeepers... Tayla thinks to herself bitterly.

"Oh I'm just fine" Tayla responds. She glances up for only a moment to respond before dropping her head down again to continue examining all the options. "I'm really enjoying this vacation the Capitol has so graciously given us" she adds sarcastically. This time, she doesn't bother raising her head up to look at Faith. "It's nice to see someone attempting to brighten everyone's day, regardless of our situation" she adds while picking up a bagel. "I take it you like cooking?" She asks.

It didn't take long for the three to realize that they were being followed. Perhaps this was due to all of their training, they had plenty of years to hone in on their instincts. But most likely, what gave Eric away was the random fourth shadow that was following close behind them. With gritted teeth, the three of them suddenly turn their horses around. Because of the way (shadow) Eric's arm was rested onto his hip, they were all three expecting a fight. It's Gwen who saves him by speaking up first.

"Eric?" Gwen asks. "Care to explain why you were following us?" Since Gwen didn't sound suspicious of Eric, both Winters and Irida relax, realizing that there wouldn't be a fight occuring between them.

The night had went by somewhat smoothly. Instead of returning to her room, Tayla continued to roam around the hallways. She discreetly tried to glance at the cameras to memorize their location. She would need to figure out where the blindspots were. She would also need to memorize every hallway and where it lead. Like it or not, she had a job to do. As much as she wanted to protect Charlie and Ibaraki, she also needed to save Ashley.

-Charlie. The name echos around in her mind. Tayla tries to ignore it, but it felt impossible to do it. She would be fine. If, by some miracle, big emphasis on the 'if'; Tayla found a way to escape with Ashley, then she would have to leave her alliance behind. This was clear to her now. But she would be okay, Cree would protect her.. right?

Tayla pauses by the door of their shared room. But she doesn't enter, not quite yet. Because finally, Tayla was coming up with a formidable plan. She would have to deceive her alliance, trick them into trusting eachother, that way, if Tayla left, they would still be close. Maybe they would bond even more over their hatred for her leaving them behind. On top of that, she would also need to continue planning an escape for Ashley. Easy, right? With a small shake of the head, Tayla quietly opens the door and crawls into bed, all without disturbing her other two roommates.
...

Maybe it was the stress Tayla was placing on herself, or maybe it was the fact that Tayla had dealt with lots of sleepless nights researching the Games. Either way, Tayla had slept in late. Or at least, that's what she thought.

After changing into the Capitol provided tank top and sweatpants, Tayla makes her way down to the cafeteria to find that there weren't a lot of people awake. Oddly enough, there seemed to be some sort of commotion. Tayla is unable to hide her amused smile when she rounds the corner only to find that a table was partly on fire. Nothing better than a bit of early morning chaos Tayla thinks to herself as she moves past the others to examine all the available breakfast options.

The long journey had, unsurprisingly, exhausted both Telmar and the traveling Kesterian army. For most, they felt like they had only slept for a few minutes before it was daytime once again.

The threat of war had made the day go by quickly. It was already late afternoon. Both armies were still busy training, even though they had been busy at work since that very morning.

There was already some improvement in Gwen's fighting techniques, but she still had a long way to go. She had been forced to train with Winters, who seemed to be having the time of his life. He dodged a jab before returning one, which Gwen manages to dodge, but once again, she fell into his trap. The split second it took for her to compose herself was being used against her, because Winters had raced forward and swept her leg out from under her, which sent her crashing to the ground.

"Need a hand?" Winters asks with a smug smile. He had extended a hand out towards her, which she slaps away so that she can stand up on her own. The two start sparring again. They fought with wooden sticks rather than swords. But that didn't make getting hit hurt any less. Gwen takes advantage of this knowledge and manages to hit Winters leg, which was already bruised from Gwen hitting him there countless times. Winters sucks in a pained breath and immediately presses his hands onto the wound, as if that could chase away the sting. "You can't do that!" Winters snaps. "That's just playing dirty, there is no situation where it would be smart to aim for the legs!"

"You're just mad that you didn't block in time" Gwen responds while copying Winters' smug smile. Irida, who had been watching the two from a distance, turns away from them to glance down at a messenger girl. The girl whispers something in Irida's ear that alarms her. Irida storms over to the two, who stop fighting once they notice her presence.

"There is a slight issue that we have to attend to. Let's go, both of you." Irida demands while striding away from the two to get on her horse. Winters and Gwen react without thought. They both drop their 'weapons' and grab their own horses. They follow Irida for a bit, before realizing that something was off.

"Why are we heading towards the Capitol?" Winters asks. But his question goes unanswered. Which causes both Gwen and Winters to exchange confused side-eye glances.

Unsurprisingly, Tayla hadn't even noticed that the chariot ride had ended until a few other tributes stepped off their chariots, the sudden new movement quickly caught Tayla's attention. She was quick to tear off her cloak and leave it behind on the chariot, but not before retrieving the photograph from the pocket.

The first thing Tayla does is wander the halls for as far as she can possibly go before being shooed back. It was clear that they didn't have free roam of the whole building, which was to be expected. Still, Tayla was quite dissatisfied with how small the area seemed. How was she supposed to track down Ashley in this small area?

But lady luck was with her. Because that's when she notices a few girls dressed like servants moving down towards what looked like a cafeteria. One girl sticks out amongst the rest. She practically matched the description from the photo. Short brown hair and green eyes, amongst other less distinct facial features. Tayla refused to get her hopes up, it was pretty unlikely that the Capitol would allow Ashley to look the same. This could just be a coincidence. The girl passes a tray over to an older girl. Strangely enough, the two barely acknowledge each other. They simply stare at each other for a few seconds and then nod at each other. Tayla starts to speedwalk after the younger girl and quickly catches up with her. "Ashley!?" She shouts out.

The girl, presumably Ashley, tenses up suddenly. When she glances back to look at Tayla, there is pure terror in her eyes. She releases a sound that sounds like a choked gasp and suddenly races away from Tayla. But Tayla was faster and had managed to grab her arm before she could flee. "Wait- just calm down I'm not-" Tayla is silenced by Ashely once again making what sounds like a choking sound, although this time it was louder, was she screaming? Ashley starts to hit Tayla in a desperate attempt to free herself. Tayla catches her other hand and shouts: "Your mother sent me!"

Ashley suddenly stops fighting but stares at Tayla with both a venomous and suspicious glare. "Here is proof, this belonged to your mother!" Tayla releases one of Ashley's hands to show her the photo. Tayla is silently thankful that they hadn't been allowed to say goodbye to anyone before entering the train. Otherwise, she would've returned the photo to the mother. Ashley cautiously takes the photo from Tayla's hand and stares at it. Tears were quickly filling her eyes when she realized that the photo was authentic. "She sent me here to save you." Ashley's eyes snap up to stare at Tayla, there was disbelief in her gaze. "I don't know how I'll do it just yet," Tayla admits, which causes Ashley's shoulders to sag down in disappointment. "But I'll figure it out, I promise. I swear on my life, you will leave this place alive." Ashley opens and closes her mouth before shaking her head. It was obvious that Ashley didn't believe Tayla. She offers Tayla an obviously forced thankful smile before pocketing the photo and continuing down the hallway.

This time, Tayla doesn't bother chasing her down. Tayla had expected many different scenarios, expecting both the positive and negative, but this interaction was still unexpected. She had no idea whenever or not to call this progress. No, this wasn't progress! She should've been prepared! Should've had a plan! She was being sloppy. Being sloppy could get you killed. Think Tayla think Tayla scolds herself as she walks to her shared room.

Tayla didn't even get a chance to assure Ibaraki that she wasn't going to bully Cree because they were forced to move onto the chariots. Tayla didn't really pay much attention to who was riding next to her, she was more focused on keeping an eye on Charlie, Ibaraki and Cree... And keeping an eye peeled for Ashely. Tayla grumbles something about tearing her own brain apart under her breath and pinches the bridge of her nose in obvious irritation.

The cloak does nothing to warm her arms whenever they ride against the wind. Instead it flaps uselessly behind her in the wind, showing off her fake revolvers. Tayla is once again reminded of the accuracy of her stylist's vision, this was yet another mystery she would later have to solve.

Because she was so consumed in her own thoughts, Tayla doesn't even notice President Snow's presence. Although if she were being honest, she would've ignored him anyway. While she hated Snow, she didn't think that he was worthy of her attention.

Tayla's features soften at the sudden change in Cree's demeanor. It was obvious that he cared for the young boy. This only confirmed her suspicions. There were no bad people here, only victims of circumstance. This was going to make things rather difficult. "I was simply requesting an alliance with Cree and my team. You see, I need some help protecting my friend over there-" again, she pauses to point to Charlie. "I was hoping that you and Cree could help me protect her. Would that be alright with you?"

It was obvious that Tayla hadn't expected Cree to agree on creating an alliance with her. Her startled expression quickly sharpens once he starts explaining his one and only condition. The startled expression returns onto her face when Cree points out that Ibaraki was standing near them and already teamed up with Cree. She bows her head respectfully upon hearing his condition. "Of course. I would be happy to do that."
