"Anywhere with land would be preferable!" Tayla pipes up while glancing up at Natalie. She had been doing whatever she could to keep herself busy during the past few hours. Anything to distract her from the fact that they were surrounded by water that was getting deeper and deeper by the second.

Tayla pales at this thought and returns her focus to sorting through the bags. This was the eighth time she sorted through them. She has yet to change the already organized assortment, but she she welcomed the distraction. "Is there even land?" She asks quietly.

The suddenness of the hug catches Tayla by surprise, but she relaxes when she realizes that it just Charlie. Charlie! That's when she remembers why she decided to stay. She lifts an arm up to pull the younger girl in, there was a large smile on her face.

It was all worth it so far. "You're alright right?" Tayla asks Charlie while standing up. She had to hold onto the edge of the boat for support and she forces herself to look away from the deep waters. Instead she focuses on the horrifying fights by the Cornucopia. Faith's voice grabs her attention. She turns to look at her, no longer caring that she somehow knew her secret. "I couldn't bring myself to do it. I just have to hope that this was the right decision."

She turns back around to face the Cornucopia and desperately scans the area for Moona and Ibaraki. Only to see them safely heading towards the boat. She quickly notices Ibaraki's obvious break. She turns to Molly with wide eyes. "Will you be able to fix that?" She asks. "Or will you need better supplies?"

The thought of leaving the boat and being on the docks was terrifying to her. Not because of the possibility of being attacked, rather the possibility of being pushed in. But if doing that meant helping Ibaraki, then she would absolutely take the risk.

Tayla finally reaches the boat. She throws an arm over the edge of the boat and hauls herself up. Her whole body relaxing the moment her arms were out of the water. She was half leaning on the boat and desperately trying to catch her breath. She allows Jeremy to help drag the rest of her body onto the boat. She whispers breathless thank yous to him.

She sits in the corner of the boat. Knees pressed against her chest and with her body trembling. You did it! Great job she praises herself internally. Instead of feeling happy, she feels sick. "I-is everyone here?" She asks, even though she can clearly see that a few people in their alliance had yet to make it to the boat.

Sage returns the smile and bows her head. She excuses herself out of Tani's house and walks out onto the porch to compose herself. She stares up at the sky for a few seconds with a heavy heart. She missed the days when Thunder Birds would freely roam the sky. She shuts her eyes, not wanting to stare at the empty sky and relaxes slightly when she feels the cold wind hitting her face. A feather flows within the wind, gently bumping into Sages cheek before being lifted up by the wind again and disappearing amongst the clouds.

"I think-" she takes a deep breath before speaking again "I know what I must do."

Sage steps into her shared home, walking quietly, as if not to disturb Maddy. In Maddy's room, amongst her belongings, was a large box. Sage's heart jumps when she picks it up. It's time... she thinks to herself. She leaves the house quickly, before Maddy can even register that somebody was there and runs over to the nearest blacksmith.

"I need you to reforge this for me!" Sage demands upon arrival. The blacksmith glances up from her work, eyeing Sage and the opened box closely before refusing.

"We are trying to prepare weapons for the next battle. We don't have time to take new orders. Come back in a few weeks" she responds.

"It's alright Tani" Sage tells her soothingly. She opens her mouth to say something else, but finds that she cannot get the words out. Both Tani and Maddy were like daughters to her. She remembers the days when they were simple servant girls. She had gotten the opportunity to watch them grow into the fearless warriors they were now. She knew that, that Maddy still remained, she just had to find her voice again.

Most important she was- "I'm proud of you, both you and Maddy." These words come out easily. "You two have never let me down. I know this kingdom will be left in good hands when I pass."
...

It doesn't take long for the arguing to become too much for Irida to bear. "Enough!" She roars while bringing a hand down on the wall. The whole room goes silent, both parties were eager to hear what she had to say. Irida knows this and allows the silence to drag on for a bit. She stares out into the Ocean for what seems to be an eternity. "I've always hated this continent. Even when my father and I first arrived here. We were planning on changing this place for the better." She bows her head slightly before continuing. "It wasn't long after that when the Mountain Men attacked us. Ever since then, we've been stuck in a never ending war against them. We've been fighting for so long, I've forgotten what it was we are fighting for."

Turning around to face the group, Irida begins to pace around the room as she speaks. "We've invaded their homeland three times, each time was more costly then the last." She stops pacing and clenches her fists as she remembers the horrifying memories that she had tried so hard to bury deep. "The first time, there were almost no survivors. The second time, half my men, including my father were slaughtered by that d*mn blacked eyed girl. The final time, we couldn't even scale the mountains without running into an ambush. Now, seventeen years later, we are still here, still fighting in this never ending war."

Irida stops trying to hide her emotions. She no longer had the strength to hold back. Tears stream down her face as she continues. "If we leave now, countless people would die in vain. My father, my best friend, their sacrifices would be for nothing."

She manages to compose herself now. She wipes away the tears and hardens her face. She turns her head to look towards her captain and storms towards him with a furious look. "If you wish to flee like a coward then I would advise you to step down from your position. You were never deserving of it in the first place! Kestrian does not flee, Kestrian does not surrender, we fight fearlessly until the end and we will not stop fighting until we are victorious!"

Tributes of all ages seemed to be moving without a second thought. Some ran to grab supplies, while others jumped in the water. Tayla takes one look at the mass of bodies and realizes that she won't be able to make it to Jeremy's boat. At least, not in this panicked state. She would have to swim if she wanted to reach it.

Tayla was a trained killer, something simple like jumping into water shouldn't be a problem for her. Yet here she was, trembling in place. Come on Tayla. Jump! Tayla shakes her head, tears were streaming down her face as she stared at her reflection. For some reason, her reflection seemed to look younger than her actual self. Your team needs you the internal voice seems to change. It's no longer her own, instead, it's the voice of her grandpa. You don't have time to be afraid, there are lives depending on you!

Tayla takes a deep breath and finally summons the courage to jump into the water. But the moment the cold water hits her chest is when she realizes that she made a mistake. A sudden paralysis seems to hit. Her instincts scream at her to kick her legs and move her arms. But her body won't react. A sense of panic quickly overtakes her and she screams out, which causes her lungs to fill up with water. The feeling was all too familiar.

Tayla opens her eyes and glances around. The sting of the salt water burned her eyes, but for some reason, it disappeared rather quickly. The view around her had changed. She no longer was she in the deep salt waters in the arena, but now she was in the clear fresh waters from her old home. A small form was in the water next to her. The unknown person turns her head slightly to face her. The girl's skin was pale, lips blue and eyes glazed over by frost. Tayla widens her eyes, suddenly realizing that this girl looked familiar. It was a younger version of her. She kicks herself away from the girl, trying to escape the hallucination.

Winter had just arrived. A young Tayla had been playing on the ice. Her parents would yell at her whenever she walked out on the ice, but now they weren't there to scold her. Her father had been away on a business trip and her mother was going grocery shopping. Tayla laughs to herself when she slips on the ice and slides around, unknowingly inching closer to the middle of the lake. She doesn't hear the distinct sounds of ice breaking underneath her over the sounds of her own laughter and the harsh wind around her. Her laughter turns into a panicked scream when the ice suddenly breaks away from underneath her, causing her to fall into the cold waters.

The same terror and helpless had returned. Tayla tries to swim up, but it felt like she was swimming through jello. The fight isn't over yet her grandpa's voice had returned. Use the adrenaline rush to your advantage. Keep fighting until you no longer can! Your life depends on it! Dark spots had appeared on the corner of her vision. She slowly makes her way up towards the surface, only to sudden hit something. (ice?) About thirty feet away from her was a small opening in the ice, where light was shining through. Tayla tries to swim towards the opening, but realizes that she won't make it in time.

Wait a minute, there's no ice here. Again, Tayla blinks a few times and the hallucination vanishes. Just when it feels like Tayla is about to pass out she finally researches the surface. She sucks in desperate breaths of air and coughs out mouthfuls of water. Her whole body was trembling, which made treading water a bit difficult. But her internal encouragement managed to keep her head above the water.

With her heart still hammering in her chest, Tayla makes her way over to the others. She forces herself to focus on swimming, tries her best to ignore her fear. I swear, when this is all over, I will never go by water ever again!

"You act as if I'm immortal" Sage responds calmly. "As if the past few years you've been leading with me didn't mean anything. Don't you understand what I've been doing? I've been preparing for you to become the next leader of Telmar!" She grabs a chair and sits down. She takes a deep breath before continuing. "I'm getting old. I don't know how much longer I'll be fit to be leader for." She pauses to let this sink in. "Telmar needs a leader" she repeats. "Now is the best time to step up. If you don't do it now, then I fear you'll never get their respect once I step down."

The events of the morning had went by in a blur. The whole time, Tayla had found that she wasn't nervous. In fact, she simply felt numb. She had been in worse situations and have done worst things. This would be a walk in the park for her. All she had to do was survive with her alliance. Grab a long distance weapon and it would be over for her enemies...

Or so she thought...

It took Tayla a few seconds to be able to see clearly against the glare of the sun. But when her eyes adjust to the arena and she realizes that there was a problem.

All the color drains from her face when she notices that there was water everywhere. She recoils away from it, nearly blowing herself up in the process. Fortunately, her feet had been frozen onto the platform. She gulps and shuts her eyes. She tries to take deep breaths, tries to do anything to stop the pathetic pounding of her heart. She was better than this! She was the great Nemesis! She shouldn't let a bit of water spook her. She tenses up when she feels some water hit her ankles. The smallest whimper escaping her throat as she opens her eyes to stare back at the water. It's just water... Everything will be okay. There was worse things to worry about than water she reminds herself. Unsurprisingly, that doesn't help calm her nerves one bit.

There are multiple heartbroken awws that can be heard from within the crowd, even Cesar looks distraught for the girl. "I wish you the best of luck out in the Games" Cesar tells Moona. Next to them, a bell goes off, signalling the end of the interviews. Cesar doesn't say anything for a moment, giving the audience time to clap and cheer Moona offstage. "That's all for tonight folks! I hope you enjoyed the interviews!" He shouts out. The crowd cheers for Cesar as he walks offstage, opposite side of the tributes of course for his own safety. Which puts the interviews to a close.

"That's understandable" Cesar responds. He gives the girl a pitied look, obviously understanding what she meant by that. "Final question, what do you plan on doing with your life if you win the Games?" Cesar asks.

Cesar clears her throat and leans back in his chair. "Sometimes rules change for the better. It's nice to bring in a returning face, it makes things interesting" Cesar responds quickly. From the tone of his voice, one would think he were prepared to answer like this ahead of time. "What type of arena are you hoping to get?" Cesar asks.

"So tell me Moona-" Cesar says while leaning towards her with obvious interest. It wasn't often a victor returned to the Hunger Games literally from the grave. "-How do you feel about being back to the Games? This whole situation must be strange to you right?" Cesar asks.

It had taken a few minutes to free Cesar from the mostly invisible prison created by Natalie. Cesar was surprisingly calm about being humiliated and attacked like this. But that was only a front. He had a tight smile on his lips and was now, thanks to Natalie, limping around anxiously. The night was not going as planned.

Still, Cesar has a job to do. So he forces himself to finish the last few interviews. Molly's interview had calmed him down some, giving him the last bit of energy he needed to call the final tribute up onstage. "The next guest is a special one folks! We have decided to bring back an old victor! Please welcome Moona onto the stage!"
...

Out of all the interviews she listened to, Tayla had found Molly's to be the most intriguing to her. It was uncommon to meet someone who would walk into a game of death with pure intentions. One couldn't help but be suspicious that it was all a lie.

But there was something about Molly that lead Tayla to believe that he was telling the truth. She turns away from him to face the stage. Even though he wasn't nearby to hear it Tayla can't help but whisper good fortune to him under her breath. He would probably need it, she wouldn't be surprised if he were one of the first people targeted. It was unfortunate that that's how people were. Given the opportunity, some wouldn't hesitate to crush the pure hearted.

Like Eric, Sage is quick to catch the disappointed look on Tani's face. It was obvious why Tani would react like that. She was tempted to say something about it, perhaps speak on behalf of Maddy and let Tani know that Maddy still cared about her and missed her as much as Tani did. But she doesn't, realizing that this would be best coming from Maddy instead of her.

"You've been absent all day" she says instead. "What's going on Tani? Telmar needs a leader, now more than ever. I know things are tough, but it's important that we stay strong."
...

The captain hesitates, looking obviously uncomfortable by the news he is about to share. But he knows better than to refuse answering a question from Irida. "We have yet to receive any word from the fleet. It's been three days" he informs. "But there is some good news" he adds while gesturing to the scouts. Two tough looking twin girls. "They come from the Eastern Bend" he explains.

"Fill me in on what's happening over there" Irida tells the scouts. Her face was once again unreadable, her telltale sign that she was desperately trying to keep everything together.

"We had lost contact with our allies and were ordered to check it out" the smaller of the two explains. "Unfortunately when we arrived we weren't welcomed by anyone.. all of our men and the commander have been slaughtered." The girl immediately drops her eyes to the ground. Her fists clenching as she remembers the horrifying sight.

Irida ever so slowly stands up and walks to the window. With her back to them she asks "So we are alone out here?" To which she gets no response. The silence was enough to confirm what she feared.

"It's best that we retreat back to the homelands. It's no longer safe for us out here" her captain replies with instead. His words cause a shouting match to occur from both parties.

"We can't do that!" Winters shouts. "These Cloaks are nothing more than a parasite. If we leave now, it'll continue to spread. We will never be safe from them until we attack them at it's root!" Winters argues.

"For once, I agree with him! I didn't drag my whole kingdom here only to be abandoned. We can't keep running away from them. We have to at least try to fight them or nobody will ever be safe!" Gwen shouts.

Irida silently listens to the shouts. Her hands were clenched together behind her back and her head was lowered slightly. One would almost think that she were defeated if not for the tension in her shoulders and jaw.

While she tried to be of assistance to Kesterian, Sage quickly found out that there wasn't much work for her to do. The kingdom ran fine on it's own and both Gwen and Irida had no trouble dealing with the army and planning counter attacks against the Cloaks. Even the people of Telmar didn't need her support all that much. They had been able to warm up to the kingdom surprisingly fast.

The only thing left to do was to check on Tani. She had been absent for most of the day. Something that Sage found to be quite unusual but she didn't pay much mind to up until now. She confidently strolls up to Tani's door and knocks on it, then takes a step back to patiently wait for her to open it.
...

It didn't take long for Irida, Gwen, and Winters to arrive at the capital. Irida is the first one to enter one of the large rooms where her one of her captains and two of her scouts were waiting. All three immediately rise to their feet out of respect for their general and silently wait for her to speak.

"How bad is the situation? Any news from our reinforcements?" Irida asks as she takes a seat. Both Gwen and Winters stand on either side of her. Both were too anxious to sit. If there was trouble, the last thing they wanted to do was sit and wait for the trouble to arrive.

"Please welcome our first guest on stage! Tayla Mckee please come forward!" Cesar shouts while throwing his arms up in the air dramatically. He turns around to face the backstage, obviously expecting her to walk out at any second. A confused look crosses over his face when he is met with nothing. "Tayla? You can come onto the stage now!" Cesar encourages. "Tayla?"
....

"Tayla?" Cesar's voice drifts through the TVs that were in the hallways. She watches with dark satisfaction on how nervous Cesar seemed to look. Although she wasn't sure if that was from him struggling to think of a way to move past this, or if he remembered her threat from her session. She shakes her head, deciding that she didn't care about the answer. She continues down the hallway, desperately searching for the spot her stylist promised to be, along with Ashley. Faith's words were haunting to her. But she was in too deep, she had to commit. It was either now or never. Her heart hammered in her chest as she strolled down the halls. If she were caught by a Peacemaker...
Well, she would rather not imagine that possibly right now...
....

"Oh yes, I forgot. I got so excited to speak with her that I forgot that there was word of her being sick!" Cesar lies. "My apologies everyone! Up next is... Tyler Jameson!" Cesar calls.
....

Tayla wasn't too far away from where the interviews were being held. The room was just outside of the area where each tribute was allowed to freely roam. Her stylist had carefully chosen a secluded room that had plenty of blind spots from the cameras. One of the blindspots was a window that had a ladder attached to it that would lead down to the streets. Of course, a key was required to open the door, but her stylist had been able to steal a key. All of this was explained to her in a rush once she entered the room.

"I'll require a small pay raise for getting this, it wasn't easy," her stylist tells her after she knocks a series of knocks on the door.

"Whatever. Is Ashley here?" Tayla asks. But her question is answered by a small form sitting in the corner of the room. Ashley's eyes were wide and filled with anxiety. Tayla couldn't blame her. If they were caught, they could consider themselves dead. "Are you ready to go home now?" Tayla asks Ashley, who quickly glances up at Tayla and nods.

"Everything will be okay. But we will have to leave now. Especially while the Peacemakers will be distracted with the interviews... and searching for you" her stylist reminds her. Her stylist and Ashley move over to the window and glance over at her still frame. "You coming?" He asks. Tayla doesn't answer, for some reason, she can't answer. It's like she is paralyzed. This feels wrong...

"Up next is Charlie!" Cesar's voice booms through the TV, cutting through the silence. A stab of pain hits Tayla's heart. She shakes her head and steps away from the pair.

"I can't..." she whispers. "You two go ahead without me and stay safe. Everything will be okay ri-?"

"Everything will be fine" her stylist responds quickly. "You know as well as I do that I won't be able to tell you your own fate... Especially now that our plans are changing. Your possibility of surviving has changed and it must remain a mystery." He pauses, his eyes were filled with sincere worry. "But I can bring you peace by telling you that-" her stylist quickly covers Ashley's ears, "we'll be alright. We'll both make it to her mother in one piece" He smiles at Tayla and tells her "you better not die, I sacrificed everything for this. I need you to make this worth it." He explains while rubbing his fingers together, obviously hinting at needing cash from her.

"I'll try," Tayla tells him with a laugh. "I'll keep the Peacemakers distracted. Now, the both of you. Go now!" Before she can move something slams into her stomach. It was Ashley, who was giving her a hug. She mumbles something that sounds like a thank you. Tayla accepts the hug and after a heart-found moment, pulls away. "Go!" She demands.
....

By some dumb miracle, Tayla manages to return backstage without stumbling into a Peacemaker. Even luckier, was the fact that she returned just in time to make the last bit of Charlie's interview.

Once again, Tayla had been swept away by her stylist with the demands of making her look presentable. This time, when her stylist grabs her hand to wheel her away he almost looks... Nervous. Her stylist had been focusing on adding mascara to her eyelashes when he casually asks: "so, you are planning on breaking out of the Capitol huh?" Tayla recoils away from him. She glances at the door with a shocked expression before settling her gaze on him. "I want to help you" her stylist explains calmly.

"Why?" Tayla asks suspiciously.

"I have a pretty strong ability. It's partly why I got a high ranking job like this. I know lots of things, I can read into a person's past and future. Not freely though, the information is presented to me only if I need to know about it." Her stylist sighs. "It's too tricky to explain and we don't have much time. I know you have money, you can afford help. I'd much rather take money from you and be free then be here." He explains.

"How am I supposed to trust you? How do I know that you won't turn me in?" Tayla asks.

"Because I would've done it already. I have nothing to gain from toying with you." her stylist responds while gently grabbing her hand to write something on it. "Meet me here during your interview if you wish to accept my help. I'd recommend taking it. I shouldn't tell you this, but your current 'plan' isn't going to work" her stylist explains. "You'll have some time to say your goodbyes. But I wouldn't do that if I were you. It'll make you look suspicious." He stands up to leave the room, leaving Tayla alone to mull over his words.
...

There was nothing that Tayla hated more than having to take leaps of faith. But her stylist had brought up a good point, if he were going to turn her in, he would have done so already. He was also correct about her having money. Still, she was terrified at the idea of having to trust him so easily. Still, she had made a promise to Ashley, she could at least check it out. Worst comes to worst, she'd have to fight her way out. Which she was already planning on doing anyway.

Her eyes fall on Faith. While she had originally planned on having Cree protect her, Faith had seemed to warm up to the girl. She walks up to Faith muttering a quick "if anything happens to me, take care of Charlie" to her before disappearing into the crowd of tributes, who were quickly filling up the backstage. She doesn't look for Charlie. She knows that if she tries to say goodbye to her, it'll only bring her guilt.

"I'm sorry Charlie, Ibaraki, Cree. I've let you guys down" Tayla whispers before moving down the hallways. She glances down at her hand, realizing that she had being directed to a room. What is he planning? Tayla wonders as she catiously walks down the hallways.

Tayla is silent for a bit, as if she were choosing her words ever so carefully. "There is nothing wrong with staying vigilant. There is a lot of danger in this world. Being easily trusting can be dangerous because some people can and will use that against you." She pauses for a moment, giving him time to process her words. "I gave you no reason to trust me, I still really haven't. So there is nothing to be sorry for. You had good intentions when being hostile towards me, you were just trying to be a good friend... But if hearing it makes you feel better, then I forgive you" she replies.

She was glad that Ibaraki wasn't looking up at her. All she could think about was that, pretty soon, she was going to break out of this place, plan or no plan. She was doing exactly what she claimed she wasn't doing, using their trust against them. Sure, she had good intentions for it. She wanted to leave Charlie in good hands. Still, she wasn't ignorant of the fact that what she was doing was incredibly wrong.

"I'm very pleased to hear that my foolishness had been able to aid in your success" Tayla replies. Now that she had some time to clear her head, she realized that she made a mistake. Why did she have to shoot the lights and threaten the Gamemakers? She had allowed her anger to fuel her and expose her true strength. Would they, by chance, recognize who she was? Even in this world, there weren't a lot of people who could do what Tayla just did.

Still, she shouldn't beat herself too much. At least something good came out of it. "There's no need to thank me. I'm certain that you would've still been able to impress the Gamemakers, even if I didn't take out most of the lights." Her smile falters slightly as she watches Ibaraki more closely. She had yet to realize that he was in a lot of pain, but she could tell that he was exhausted. "Are you okay? If you need to, you can lean on me for support" she offers.

Once again, Tayla had found herself to be sudden surprised by Ibaraki. Like before, she hadn't expected him to say something to her first. This time however, she wasn't going to ignore him and do her own thing.

She waits by the doors and manages to catch horrified looks on the Gamemakers faces when Ibaraki exits the room. She glances over at Ibaraki, and notices that he seemed to drag his feet a bit while he walked, as if he had exhausted himself. She shoulders past the nearest tribute and walks side by side with Ibaraki. After seeing the look on the Gamemakers faces, it was obvious that he didn't need her protection. Still, she didn't like the idea of him being alone in this state, especially with the way other tributes seemed to react to his temporary weakness. "It looks like you did pretty good in there. It looked like you scared those Gamemakers half to death, I'm impressed, good job" she praises.
