Kieran hopped from tree to tree, finding the clearing chock full of them. Hopping back a few trees, he barked at the zombies, hoping to distract them from Winnie, Charlie and Melody. Maybe it would work a little...?

Not knowing how to help, Kieran stayed put in his cradle of branches, still as a rock. He honestly felt a little useless, but there was nothing to do about it. He watched uncomfortably as the others struggled to escape the zombies.

The sunset glowed warmly against the tree Kieran began to climb. It would be a beautiful sight... if he wasn't escaping these creatures. As he noticed Melody fall from a nearby tree, Kieran wished he could transform into his human form right now to help, but sadly, that wasn't possible. One good thing about being in this form was that he was an expert climber, and it was hard for himself to fall. He was still concerned about the humans though, and felt a cold shiver run down his spine.

A yelp escaped Kieran's mouth as one of those creatures noticed Kieran. He ran away, not in the same direction as Melody, so as to not direct the one following him to her, and the other two humans in that direction... By their scent, they were the same two that were in the house with the giant serpent... what a coincidence! No time to dwell on coincidences though. Kieran darted away through the undergrowth.

However, the zombie monsters were faster than anticipated, eventually, Kieran found himself running in the direction towards melody, where even more of the monsters were gathered. Finally, Kieran was cornered against a few trees in a clearing, and noticed the humans on the other side of it.

Having sharp ears was both a blessing and a curse for Kieran. On one hand, he could pick up things that were really far away! On the other hand, even quiet noises could hurt his ears. Kieran felt his hackles rise as he heard the noise, and he pressed himself into the ground to say quiet and out of sight. He was glad he'd come, this was far more suspenseful than meandering on his own.

The sun was already on the horizon, as it usually was when it wasn't summer in Princeville. Kieran thought he would have more time. Panicking and rushing, he returned the cleaning supplies, thanked the school, and rushed home, slightly stressed. He ate a lot of berries he'd collected to fill him up, so as not to let his raccoon dog instincts take over when he transformed. Finally, he felt himself become a short canine. Kieran still didn't know how it worked. Maybe it was exposure to the moon? Whatever the case, Kieran padded into the woods, like he typically did every month. Scenting something familiar, he padded in that direction... to find Melody! She was going exploring after all. Might as well follow her... it would be more interesting than just being alone. He stayed out of sight, hiding in the bushes.

Kieran watched Melody run off uneasily. Hopefully nothing bad would happen. Kieran would be disappointed if she ended up moving again because of the monsters; things would probably be a little less interesting. Hmm... speaking of the woods... Kieran walked outside and took a look at the sky. Despite it being bright and blue, he could still see the moon, which was practically a whole circle at this point. He'd have to transform into a raccoon dog from sunset to next sunset, which would be annoying. No one would wonder where he was, thankfully. He paced around a bit, before walking back inside.

"Ah, no problem," Kieran responded, a little flustered. He wasn't used to compliments, and he clasped his fingers together in his combined hoodie pocket, feeling a little awkward. "Classes start again in... around 10 minutes," He mentioned, gesturing to the cafeteria clock, the ticking of its hands being silent compared to the cacophony of voices in the room. "Maybe you should look for your classroom?" He suggested.

"Oh." The lightbulb finally went off, and Kieran realized why Melody was so eager to have a conversation. Unfortunately, that was something Kieran didn't consider himself good at. He searched the corners of his mind for the right words. "...I hope things turn out alright for your whole family," He finally settled on. It sounded a little cheesy, and he blushed, but it had to be said.

"If you want to talk about it, I don't mind." Kieran responded. He fiddled calmly with the tassels at the end of his hoodie cords. It was true, Kieran wouldn't mind listening, but he had a guess... Melody's dad probably experienced something that made him lose his motivation, or just lost it over time, and now Melody probably felt they were moving around for nothing. He'd have to see, though.

"There's also the monster rumours... you've definetely heard about those. I don't believe in them... but I do think that there are some pretty dangerous things in there nonetheless, maybe animals or something? A couple people who've gone in came out pretty beat up..." Kieran paused, eager to change the topic. "Does your dad write horror or something?

"I've been," Kieran was relieved at not having to lie anymore. "It's quite beautiful, actually, and the blackberries there are super good. Though I wouldn't recommend going in too far... it gets a little dark and spooky in there." It was a good way of warning about the monsters and supernatural creatures lurking in the nearby woods without actually having to say anything about monsters.

"That?" Kieran felt his brain jump from idea to idea as he quickly made something up. "Probably just a big raccoon. Raccoons love this area, and a lot of people don't forget to close their garbage cans..." That part wasn't a lie. He'd seen a lot of raccoons in town, which made it easier to blend in, since raccoon dogs weren't exactly native. Now for the harder part. "As for the classes, I took them when I was younger; I was in accelerated classes. I had to move though, for... reasons." Hopefully his reserved tone would stop Melody from asking further, though he was a little skeptical.

Kieran nodded with a small grin. "So, the two things?" He wasn't surprised that he was going to be questioned about things by Melody (she seemed like a very inquisitive human), but that didn't stop him from folding back his canid ears further.

"Sure," Kieran responded contently, his mouth still full of orange. Melody was right about the loner comment. If he hung out with others, they'd probably find out about... well, it was obvious what he was thinking about, and things were less awkward when no one did. Kieran was also more introverted than extraverted, possibly because raccoon dogs tended to live alone, or just in small groups. "What's up?"

Kieran waved back tiredly, with just a small flick of his hand. It seemed he'd made a friend of sorts. Well, it seemed less of a "friend and friend" thing, and more of a "Melody being a curious kitten and somehow finding him everywhere" sort of thing, which Kieran didn't mind either.

Kieran was finished cleaning. He decided to take a break himself, before the school asked him to come back to clean at the end of the school day. Pulling out the oranges he'd purchased earlier, he began peeling them absentmindedly, watching the students from the corner of the cafeteria.

"Got it!" Kieran nodded as he watched Melody turn away. He was surprised she hadn't asked why he wasn't going to the school, though he guessed she'd probably wondered about it at some point and maybe forgot. As he continued cleaning, moving from hall to hall, he felt a familiar feeling in his core: a nervous one that occured before the full moon. His work had almost taken it off his mind. He would probably be fine this time... though it was still annoying to be forced to be a canine every month. He'd make sure to get home early to prepare.
