Hunter nodded to the receding Miltoc and grabbed the trainer it had deposited on the beach while listening to the conversation between the others. Dragging the trainer towards the shade, he thought that sticking together might not be the worst idea. But then again, what did he know?

He acknowledged Katu's apology on behalf of Blaze with a grunt, not really sure if it was directed at everyone or to the Miltoc in particular.

Hunter didn't pursue the topic and decided to leave the Espeon be. He kept working in silence, pausing only to listen to the exchange with the Rapidash. The Pokémon took the news well enough. Shaking his head slightly, he got back to work.

Jack began carrying the King up the temple steps. He was almost at the top when Kat appeared at the temple entrance. She took on look and quickly lead Jack in.

"Quick, quick, set him down." She said, gesturing to a stone slab. Jack did so.

"Can you-" Jack began.

"I'll see what I can do." Kat said. "Leave me."

Jack took one last look at the King. If he died, that would present a massive problem. The power vaccum could launch the Void, and quite a few of the realms besides, into all out war. But it wasn't the old man's style to die.

With that thought, he left.

Hunter took a single sweeping look at the beach and got to work. He hooked his arms around the nearest trainer and pulled them off the beach, into the shade afforded by the buildings by the sea. "What about you?" He asked the Espeon eventually, while pulling another human. "Are you a local?"

"Good." Death nodded. "I hope they appreciate the stuff I go through for them."

"Very well." The Queen said. She stepped outside and teleported to the city.

Jack nodded to himself and, hefting the King, he teleported once more. He arrived just as the Queen did, in the square at the foot of the temple stairs. "Where's the Priestess?" He roared, before fully registering the Chaos forces that looked on.

Hunter smiled slightly. "No, I'm not from around here. Just going around the wilds, I guess. Here and there. Probably had a trainer once, but I don't really remember." He didn't voulenteer anything further. It was quite warm, but Lucario dealt with it. Being warm wasn't really amongst his main concerns at the moment.

Jack took the King, stepped outside and disappeared. The Queen knelt besides Sliuril. "Thank you." She said. "Do you want me to stay here?"

Jack appeared on a dune at some distance from the city, to judge the situation. There was a large force assembled within Aurora, but it seemed to be friendly.

Death teleported back to the city. He'd gotten lucky. Very lucky. But it seemed that the Crawler was gone.

"Lead the way." Hunter shrugged. He didn't say anything about the Fennekin accompanying them. The Pokémon had spirit, he supposed. Hunter sighed. He wasn't sure if he was tired or annoyed, but he didn't feel particularly equipped to deal with this entire situation.

Hunter thought over it. "Let's head down to the beach. Get them safe once and for all." He said. "Not like this fog is going anywhere." He muttered, seemingly to himself.

Jack looked to the Queen, who nodded shakily. "The magic shielding this area is gone. We... we should be able to, as soon as we step outside the Spire." She said. Jack turned to Sliuril. "Give him here. We're taking him back to Aurora, right now."

Jack and the Queen flew next to Sliuril, ready to support her should she need it. Jack looked at the King. His body was smoking, his red robes burnt to tatters, leaving the charred armour underneath. A large crack had spread through the left part of the King's Mask. He didn't seem to be moving.

Death shielded his non-existant eyes from the sudden burst of light. When it subsided, he slowly looked around. He breathed a sigh of relief. He could only assume that the group up North had been successful.

The explosion destroyed the upper tier of the Spire, obliterating the platform they'd been standing on. Jack's shields kept them suspended in the air. There was nothing bust dust for a moment and then the King emerged from the cloud, falling to the floor far below. The Queen gasped and broke the shield Jack had put up. She began flying after the receding figure, trying to catch him before he hit the ground. Jack dropped the shields around himself and Sliuril and gave chase as well.

Jack expected the King to stop, but he kept approaching the pendant. He reached out the hand that he had been charging the spell with and grabbed the pendant. Immediately, the tendrils tightened around the King. He growled slightly and channeled more energy to his hand. All the energy he had absorbed at the Folly, in fact. Slowly, the light in his closed fist began emerging between his fingers, growing in intensity. The tendrils tightened even more, causing the King to cry out. But he kept his grip firm and continued channeling energy to his hand.

Jack took a step back and raised up shields around the the three who were watching.

Death felt the Crawler back off with a scream. There was a faint light in the darkness. Cracks of light. He peered at them. They were highlighting the figure of the creature he had been fighting, the cracks spreading through it.

Even flying as fast as they could, it took perhaps a minute to reach the top. There was a round platform, floating in the middle of the area, away from the walls. The King landed gently on it. When nothing happened, he nodded to the others. Jack and the Queen touched down as well. In the middle of the platform was a raised dias. On it, rested what could have once been a pendant. It actually radiated dark energy, the tendrils spreading out from the small shape in the middle. The King studied it for a moment and then walked forward, charging up a spell.

Death had pressed his advantage as much as he could, but the Crawler was starting to recover.

Hunter looked at the Fennekin. "We'll find out, won't we?" He turned back to the Espeon, but kept his eyes on the fog. "How long has it been? And are only humans going to sleep? No Pokémon?"

He realised too late that he was being a bit interrogatory. "I'm not really from around here." He muttered, still scanning the fog.

Death felt confusion in the air. The Crawler paused in its attack.

Ah. Death thought. Good.

He began attacking. The Crawler roared as the blade bit into it several times. Whatever had distracted it had given Death a chance. A small one, but one he would avail.

"They won't follow us in here." The King said. "Very few things are stupid enough to venture willingly into the Crawler's domain." He looked around at the inside of the Spire. The walls attached upwards in every direction. The huge space overhead was crisscrossed by bridges, suspended in the air. There were no apparent stairs. Not that the King would have suggested their use.

"Straight to the top, then."

He took off straight upwards in a cloud of dust. Jack glanced at Sliuril, shrugged and took off after him, the Queen close behind.

"The fog put everyone to sleep, you say?" Hunter muttered to himself, kneeling by the trainer on the bench to better observe them. He looked at the newcomer and straightened up, crossing his arms, listening to the exchange in silence. In the end, he decided he knew who he wanted to talk to.

"Is it like this everywhere?" He asked the Espeon.

The Court danced through the enemies, providing each other with constant support and always moving forward. They proceeded steadily towards the Spire, one powerful blast after another. The Summoners were formidable, but the Court, or even three-quarters of it, fighting together could clear out the better class of battlefield.

Death was launched to the middle of the cavern with another ringing blow. Bones shattered, only to flow back to his form. He came up with a swipe of his scythe and was rewarded by another hiss. But there wasn't much fight left in him. Unless the ones up North got done soon, the Crawler would put him down and launch a full assault on Aurora.

Hunter tilted his head and arched an eyebrow as the Pokémon stepped out in front of him. "Calm down." He said. "Do you know what's going on?" he asked, looking around the square. There wasn't really a lot to see. The fog was messing with his perception. He kept imagining figures in it, putting him a bit on edge.
