Since only four people were allowed to play salmon run at a time, both Lovi and Roma had opted to sit out and watch on curiously from the safety of the boat.

Lovi had played several times before and Roma was super new, so the boy spent most of the time attempting to explain the game to her.

“How is this a game? It’s more like a war!” Roma protested.

Connor yawned and rested his hands on the lustrous orb, watching it sparkle in the sunlight. It was a pretty thing. Something he knew a lot of others would kill for.

Which left him wondering how and why he’d ended up with it.

It made him think a lot too; Because he understood why Mel had the griseous orb (or rather, why Giratina had Mel). But then again, she was prone to blinded fury.

Okay. So Mel and Giratina shared a lot of similar traits. Maybe that was it! Both of them were prone to outbursts of anger more easily. And they were both the babies of their families. Their actual families, anyway. They both made decisions based on what was best for their families. Mel had.. Mel had betrayed the others to help her ragtag family and Giratina had been killed multiple times to prevent things from happening to his own. Honest, protective, difficult to understand, joke to hide their real feelings.. All things Mel and Kuro shared.

So what did Connor share with Palkia?

He genuinely hoped it was nothing. Because the last thing he wanted was to push people around, simply because he could. Maybe that was why he’d never really bonded with Kie; The water-dragon was just too.. Too different.

Pom reached up to grip Connor’s shoulder with one of her tails, purple eyes flashing sympathetically. ”Did you learn anything?” She asked softly. ”You’ve been acting funny all day.”

“Giratina’s down.”

The Ambipom was up in a heartbeat. Even Ao looked surprised, and the Marshtomp was rarely fazed by anything. ”Are you serious?”

“What happened?” Ao chimed in, orange eyes wide with horror.

“Palkia and Dialga.”

”I thought those days were over?” Pom protested.

Ao snorted despite the tense atmosphere. ”They’re siblings. ‘S like asking Orpheus and Riu and Aki to stop fighting each other. You can’t.”

Connor nodded, though his eyes were downcast. “Kuro isn’t coming back for a while.”

”Is he..?” Pom trailed off hesitantly. Ao remained quiet. Even Simon didn’t peek up from the backpack discarded on the bench beside them.

Connor shrugged helplessly.

”You’re going to talk to Kie, aren’t you.” It was phrased as more of a question than an actual statement.

“I just want to know what happened.”

Pom nodded.

Nobody spoke for a while.

Connor’s Pokédex buzzed from its spot discarded on the table and the boy grumbled, reaching for it in frustration. His arms were too short.

Dew passed by it with a snicker.

“Dew please.”

The Roserade simply lifted one flowery hand in response as she trotted off, leaving the boy groaning in her wake.

“I’m telling on you!” He shouted after her.

She laughed in response.

Lighthouse Cafe?? Sure. I’m like a minute away from it anyway

And with that he stood and snatched his sweatshirt off the wall, dashing into the kitchen to snatch his water bottle from the fridge. Mel shrieked and nearly dropped her bowl of cheerios, much to her chagrin.

“Connor!” She yelled after him as he sprinted out the door with Pom on his heels and Simon on his shoulder. “Damnit! Brat.”

Riu grinned and pat her shoulder sympathetically.
