Tayla curses, immediately recognizing the danger of holding the weapon. She considers firing a shot at 'Ace' before realizing that, that would be too risky. Afterall, he could easily attack her while she was distracted by her weapon. Rather than drop it she throws it at Ace. With that momentary distraction, she glances around, hoping to find something to defend herself with.

She spots Ibaraki and freezes. What was he doing here? She knew that he was strong, but now that he was injured, she wasn't quite sure if he could fight Ace. He'd have a better chance than you. She releases a shaky breath. Ibaraki's best chances of either attacking Ace or fleeing would come down to him being distracted. She slowly bends down to pick up a stone and grins at Ace. "Is that the best you got!?" She asks. She circles around Ace, trying to get him to turn his back on Ibaraki. "That was pathetic."

"Nothing just yet, we have to get everyone together" Tayla tells Moona. She glances out towards the shoreline, her eyes widening when she notices, what she believes, is an unaccounted for person. She quickly grabs her crossbow and approaches the body. "Hey!" She barks out. Stopping a few feet behind the body "who are you and why are you here!?"

"Aster" ~Kieran Atherton

~"It gives me strength to have somebody to fight for; I can never fight for myself, but, for others, I can kill" (-Emilie Autum)~

Gender: Male

Age: 23

Occupation: Second in command gang leader//Assassin

Personality: Aster is seen as cruel, cold, and uncaring. All for good reason, one doesn't reach his rank by being kind. He is feared by most, so he is rarely bothered by the people in his gang. Aster is cunning and manipulative. If he wants something, then he will get it, no matter what. Aster tries to help people if possible. Sparing lives when he can and secretly killing the worse of his underlings when possible. Aster is secretly soft hearted. His whole tough bad guy persona could shatter if he found out his closest friend Dakota Thorne were still alive

Appearance: Long strands of black hair that is usually kept up in a ponytail. His hair has strands of neon purple in it and he has dark blue eyes. He is tall, standing at about 6'3. He has somewhat of an athletic build- being somewhere in between scrawny and brawny. He typically wears black dress pants and a black dress shirt with a long black coat over the shirt. He finishes the look by wearing boots and a gun strap on his chest. His arms and part of his chest are covered in flower tattoos. He loves flowers and thinks they look pretty neat.

Backstory:

Skills: Aster is most dangerous at far ranged fights. I mean... He has a sniper! Although the silencer, despite helping muffle shots, could expose his location. Fortunately he has a dangerous sword in the off chance that the fight becomes a close ranged battle. Aster is experienced with both weapons. He also has a dangerous network- his gang

Ability?: - Darkness- he can hide in the shadows- making him appear almost demon like. He can also make shadows do anything he desires. Obviously he is weaker when there is lots of light present and stronger when there is little to no light. He doesn't get the chance to use his powers very often since he usually uses it to scare his enemies. His power makes his flower tattoos glow red

Weaknesses: Being the person he is, he has made a lot of enemies. If a group turned against him, then it could turn out bad for him. Aster is strong, having both long ranged and close ranged fights covered. But large groups are his weakness. He also doesn't fare well with surprises

Weapons: His main weapon is a long sniper rifle that has a scope and silencer on it. But he has a odachi sword for defensive use

Daemon?: Jaguar and house cat- (a bengal) named "Tutelary" (a deity or spirit that protects) but goes by "Tut"

"Don't jinx it" Tayla grumbles while crawling out from underneath the table. "If they wanted to drive us off this island, they would've done it." She moves over to the door, wanting to escape the cramped room. "I think they wanted to scare us, show us a sliver of their power..." She snorts and shakes her head. "It didn't work, but I suspect that they'll be getting impatient very soon. We should be prepared to leave... Or fight, at a moments notice."

Bree nods her head along with Orin's words, taking in all the information that he was giving. It didn't sound too difficult, until she reminded herself that she didn't have a long time to train. She and Fallon would need to pick up on these new skills, and fast!

Bree groans when Orin mentions the parade. "These are one of the few times where I'm happy to be blind. I don't want to imagine what types of hideous outfit they have planned for us." Bree nearly scoffs at the memory of watching the previous Games with her family. She can remember them laughing at every outfit and describing each one to her. Bree didn't need to have sight and be experienced with fashion to know that they were almost always terrible. "I can hardly contain my excitement" she says while rolling her eyes.

"I see" Bree mumbles as she takes in this information. Her plan was good, but Orin was right. She would need more than words and appearances if her plan was going to be successful. Most of all, she would have to do something to make herself strong. Her plan falls apart when the alliance breaks. She'd have to be on her own then. She would need to learn to defend herself and possibly kill. "I understand."

She would have Fallon at least. She wouldn't need to master a weapon, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to be trained with one. With her skills, Fallon, and possibly Teri, there was almost no way they could fail. "What kind of weapon should I go after? A knife would be ideal, it's easy to hide, so I could avoid suspicion. But it's extremely close ranged. Something like an ax or a spear allows me to have more distance for stabbing, but it's harder to hide."

"Thanks" Bree mutters under her breath. She takes a bite of her food and fights back the urge to look surprised. The food was surprisingly tasty! She shouldn't be surprised, the people of the Capitol lived in total luxury. Still, the food was something she would have never dreamed of. She eats quietly and listens to Teri count. She quickly loses interest in trying to decipher what the pattern was and what it meant. So she allows it to be calm background noise.

"If the pair of you could elevate your feet a little more, and stop clomping like elephants, you can easily master stealth." The sudden change from counting to conversation causes Bree to snap out of her daze. She doesn't lift her head up, doesn't bother moving a muscle, besides the occasional lift of her hand when she brings food into her mouth. She silently listens to what Teri has to say.

"Thanks for believing in me. But my increased senses don't make me a superhero" Bree points out. She feels around for a table so that she can drop her mostly empty plate on it. She gives up quickly and puts the plate down on the ground so Fallon can eat the scraps. "I've learned to live in this world without sight. But what will eventually go down in the arena is nothing that I've thought of preparing for... It's foolish, but maybe I was too scared to imagine that possibly. I'll take any help I can get if it means that I can live."

She pauses before continuing. "My blindness could be a good tool. I'll be underestimated, perhaps others will take pity on me" she smiles mischievously, "maybe I can take advantage of that. If I could just get into an alliance... Maybe pit a few people against each other, I won't become a target when the alliance eventually tears itself apart." She glances up now towards Orin. "What do you think?"

Even though everything he said was true, Bree couldn't help but take offense to his words. She clenches her jaw and holds back the urge to insult him. He's just trying to help Bree reminds herself. Her cheeks redden at the mention of getting food. She couldn't really get food without some sort of assistance. But she would rather not ask for help, especially after everything Orin just told them. What would he think of her? She couldn't even do one of the most basic human instincts without help.

Fortunately, Teri unknowingly saved her from this embarrassment. It takes everything she has to not glance over at him again and give him a questioning look. It made sense not to trust the lady from earlier, but Orin was trying to help them! Why would he be hesitant to trust him? Orin had one thing that you couldn't learn from a book or screen- experience.

Even more confusing, was why Teri wanted to go into an alliance with her. He was smart, so he must not be crunching these numbers correctly. Sure, they are from the same district and she was much more likely to be the most loyal person out of the rest, but still, she had lots of- undesirable disadvantages. Whatever the reason is, it doesn't matter. I'll figure it out later. I'd be stupid to pass this opportunity up. "Do you have any apples?" Bree asks. "It may just be the stress, but I can't stomach a large meal right now. Something small and filling like an apple would be perfect." Now she would have to fight for his trust. That shouldn't be difficult, he did trust her enough to reveal his feelings towards the Capitol.

Bree has gone silent. She quietly listens to Teri, her heart going out for him when he describes strengths very similar to hers. Teri seemed to be in the same boat as her. His actual physical talents were unknown to her, but it was likely that he would also be considered a 'weak link.' Fortunately, he did fare off better than her, so maybe that was the only advantage he needed to survive.

She wonders if Orin had expected this. Was he like them when he first entered the Games? Or did he have more physical strength than mental strength, already making him completely different from them? What did he do to put himself ahead of all the others tributes?

She sits up, ready to ask him until a strip of plastic is pushed into her hand. She turns her a head towards Teri, raising an eyebrow at him. Obviously wondering what it was and how he managed to make it without access to some sort of large machine. She feels small bumps against her palm and drags a finger over the bumps, jumping in surprise when she realizes that it was braille. What was he trying to tell her in such secrecy? Did he not trust them?

Two days... 48 hours, 2,880 minutes, 172,800 seconds, ≈200,000 heartbeats. All that time, only for it to possibly be the end. "I'll do whatever it takes to survive" she replies. She envisions a clock. She could practically hear her mother's voice in her head, describing what a clock was and how it worked. She could envision the thin line of the second hand moving. Hear the ticking of every second passing by. Every second that passed seemed to be a second towards her ultimate demise. No matter how hard she tried to tell herself that she could survive, it felt unwise to believe it.

What chance did she have? She could only hope that Orin could figure out a way, because right now, she was hesitant to believe that the answer to her all her problems were allies. Allies would boost her survival, but the moment their backs were against the wall would be when they'd turn on her. She wasn't stupid, she'd be the first to go, she would be the weak link afterall. No amount of manipulation or convincing could change that. It was survival of the fittest and all odds were against her.

Don't give up yet. You already hold an advantage over everyone. You know your own weaknesses and you know what the outcome for those weaknesses will be. You have time to think of a counterattack... Bree smiles at this thought. Maybe Terri was right, maybe she, they, weren't completely defensless afterall. They came from a district of geniuses, the technology district. What they lacked in muscle, they made up for in intelligence. They were unknowingly conditioned to plan for these types of outcomes. Yes, this was the key. She would have to convince her opponents that she could easily outsmart them... Even better, she could actually outsmart them.

"My only strength is my ability to form connections with others... I do have some physical strength but it's rendered useless in a fight" Bree admits. "I suppose I could talk my way out of a fight-" Bree grimaces "although I have a feeling that it wouldn't work. My only other strength is having my canine friend with me, but we'd stand no chance fighting a group or someone with a long ranged weapon." She sighs and leans back into her chair, resting her head on the back of the chair to raise her head towards the ceiling. "So-... You obviously have quite a bit of potential to work with here" she says sarcastically.

The distant sound of heels on floor is what lets Bree know that Masie had taken her order seriously. She opens her mouth, a mischievous smile crossing her face as she prepares to comment on the irony of giving a blind person a pen and paper. But she is quickly silenced by King. She listens to him quietly, her features softening as she takes pity on him.

"I'm sorry Orin, I won't mention your other name from here on out." Her hands clench together on her lap, giving away her unease. "I don't think little of you, afterall, you were simply doing whatever you could to survive right?" She asks. "Please" she says, much more kindly now that there was no sarcasm laced within her words. "Help us do the same."

Masie Floss's chatter was quite boring to Bree. She was much more interested in the information her mentor would provide to both her and Teri. Small talk was useless to her right now. It was doing nothing to calm her nerves. She moves her chin off her palm to raise a hand over her eyes. She brushes away a new wave of tears that were threatening to spill. She wished that she could've stayed back with her parents longer, she was no longer confident in being here.

Fallon, sensing her despair, rests his head onto her knee. She lowers her hand to pet his head. It was silly, but Bree felt a bit calmer while petting Fallon. Soon, all of her fears and worry drifts away. I'll be okay, I just have to make sure that I don't lose my head. Her attention is taken off Fallon when she hears heavy footsteps approaching them. She listens as Masie introduces the newcomer as King.

"What a silly name" Bree says with a giggle. "Alright, your majesty, cut to the chase. How are we going to survive in the arena. Is it by luck? Or is there some sort of strategy to it?" She turns towards where she last heard Masie's voice and snaps her fingers at her. "I'll need some paper and pen! I have a feeling that this'll be important to write down!"

"Obvious hm?" Bree had never felt anything towards the Capitol. Neither resentment nor love. Of course, she wished for change. But allowing herself to hate... Well, that is a steppingstone for change, but with that change would be blood. She'd rather approach an unstoppable enemy with a cool, neutral demeanor. Unclouded by emotions. If anything, she'd rather make them clouded by emtions, make them foolish and illogical. She doesn't bother telling Teri any of this though, for fear that it would turn him against her.

Bree stares directly at the device that Teri has held up for her to see. It was possible, that just for a moment, she may have tricked a few people into thinking that she could actually see. "That's amazing" Bree comments. "I've never seen anything like that before!" She smirks, trying to show Teri that she had taken no offense to his actions. "You know, I wouldn't made it smaller and much more circular. It's easier to attach wires that way and will be harder for others to notice" she adds sarcastically. In response to his final comment she says "you can't miss what you never had. Sometimes, I'm glad I can't see the world and it's darkness and destruction. But there are times where I resent myself, for it would be very convenient to have sight."

She stops talking. Both because she had nothing more to say and because it was starting to go quiet. The woman's speech must've come to a close. It would no longer be safe for the two to talk. "We can continue this discussion on the train." Her lips barely move as she whispers these words. She turns away from him and takes a deep breath. Focusing her attention on the sounds around her for clues on what will happen next.
...

Bree was lead to a private room to say goodbye to her loved ones. She sits in the cold room alone with Fallon, quietly waiting for her parents to be allowed access into the room. She could already hear their voices down the hallway. Their cries, their shouts, their desperate begging. She had never seen her parents cry, never seen them like this. It was enough to put a crack through her front. Tears slip down her cheeks as she slowly stands up to approach them once the door opens up.

Arms sweep around her and she is met with the family scent of her parents. Her mother's sweet perfume and the spiced scent of her father's after-shave. It felt like home. Suddenly, Bree is desperate to stay. She wants to shout: "Don't make me go!" Her hands start trembling, so she is forced to clench them. "I can't do this! I CAN'T DO THIS!" She swallows down a sob, which causes a shiver to run down her spine. "I don't want to die..." Bree doesn't dare speak these thoughts outloud. Her parents were already devastated. She didn't want to rub salt into their wounds.

The least she could do it hold it together for them. She sniffs and takes deep breaths. "I love you guys" she manages to choke out. "I'll do everything in my power to come back to you two" she whispers. Both her parents break down even more, their I love you's and stay strong's and I know you will's were overtaken by their sobs. It takes everything Bree has to hold it together. "I love you... I love you" she whispers over and over. She doesn't stop because it was likely that this would be the last time she would ever be able to say this to them.

"You speak so daringly" Bree practically whispers the words. She chuckles and shakes her head while sweeping her hair back and out of her face. "Tell me, why do trust me enough to reveal that. What if I were a Capitol lover?" She asks. She raises a hand up, showing surrender. "I'm not" she assures, "but be mindful of revealing that. Especially when there are Careers around. Something like that could make you a target for both the Careers and Gamemakers." Her eyes soften upon hearing his question. She sighs and once again lowers her head towards the floor. "I've never had any eyesight to lose. I was born this way" she admits.

"I hope for the world's sake that you're incorrect about that observation. I didn't see anybody eagerly jumping forward to volunteer for our places. Unless they take joy in watching-... defensless people sufffer" she pauses for a moment to ponder on her words. It certainly didn't seem like a stretch. "16 degrees huh? I thought I was spot on" Bree says with a chuckle.

"This-" she says while reaching a hand down to scratch her companion's ears. As if sensing it, Fallon lifts his head up to make it easier on her. "-Is Fallon. He sort of grew on me. I never wanted to adopt him, but he wouldn't stop following me around as a puppy and eventually, I gave in and adopted him." She smiles at the memory. "I'm happy that the Peacekeepers are allowing me to keep him. I suppose they aren't that heartless."

She straightens up again to continue speaking with Teri directly. "Enough about me. What's a person like you doing here? You seem intelligent. Certainly there is somebody here who would be proud to take your place? Or is there some deeper, darker thing going on here?" Bree didn't mean to pry around for dark secrets. In fact, her final question seems to slip out without thought. But she couldn't take back her words so she just goes with it.

There were plenty of eyes staring at her and Teri. Bree could practically feel their gazes. It almost made her feel naked. She never liked having so many eyes staring at her. So she was obviously overjoyed to be sent off to the Capitol to be shown off as a lamb to the slaughterhouse. She couldn't help but wonder what her fellow citizens were they thinking. Did they pity them? Or were they feeling a dark sense of satisfaction at not being chosen? Then there was the question of Teri Colbatfire, who was he? If Bree wanted to survive, she would have to get into everyone's heads. Befriend them, manipulate them. It didn't matter, the end goal was the same. She needed allies if she intended to survive.

She decides to take the safe route first: befriend him. "Hey" she says, turning to look towards where she thinks Teri is. "So... This is great isn't it?" She asks with a smirk. "One would think it would be a bit more exciting being shipped off to your death. I mean, I wasn't expecting fireworks but come on, these reactions are seriously underwhelming."

The morning of the Reaping started off the same as the previous six years. Despite Bree's complaints, she is forced to sit on a stool while her mother works to prepare her for the Reaping. A comb tears through her hair, a hand gently holds her face in place for make-up, hands guide her into her dress. She is left standing in the mirror, her unfocused gaze staring at her reflection. Her mother half leans over her and Bree knows without knowing that she is smiling.

"You look beautiful" her mother whispers.

"Do I?" Bree asks with a chuckle. "I'll take your word for it." She straightens up slightly, hearing footsteps entering the room and coming to a stop behind them. Her father's voice later drifts into the room.

"People are beginning to gather. We should get going." Like every year, he sounded nervous. Unlike every year, Bree doesn't try to convince him not be afraid. It was almost like they all knew what was about to come.
...

Fallon sticks close to her side. She could feel the tips of his fur against her fingertips. His side would occasionally bump against her leg, a reminder to walk forwards. Her parents stick close, she could hear their quiet chatter behind her. They don't guide her, they know that she doesn't like needing help. Her eyes drift to her left peripheral, where she hears not so subtle whispers regarding her. It wasn't surprising. Ever since she had been old enough to attend the Hunger Games, people had taken an interest in her. Like every year the same question is asked amongst anyone who takes notice of her. Is it possible for a blind tribute to survive the Hunger Games?

Fallon suddenly growls and Bree has to drop a hand on his back to get him to calm down. They had approached some Peacekeepers, who guided her to an attendance station. After that, she was rather forcefully lead away to stand amongst the crowd to await her fate.

"You don't have to be scared" her father whispers in her ear. "The chances of you being chosen are-"

"Guaranteed" Bree finishes the words for him, cutting him off his lie. "They are guaranteed dad" she repeats softly. "I've gotten lucky the last few years, but I don't think I'll be so lucky this year..." If she were going to continue speaking, she no longer could, because that's when the anthem started to play on a screen above them. After a long speech, the moment they were waiting for arrived. To their astonishment, Bree's name was picked.

"No!" Her parents exclaim. A strong arm pulls her in and the familiar scent of her mother is washed around her. "Somebody have a heart!" Her mother cries out. "Please! Don't take my only daughter away!" Bree's eyes suddenly widen. Amongst her parents shouts were approaching footsteps- Peacekeepers- Fallon had started growling again.

"Mom!" Bree shouts. But she doesn't seem to hear her over her own cries so Bree is forced to wriggle out of her mother's grip, once again shouting "mom!" The silence around them was deafening. Bree lifts a hand up and allows her mother to guide it to her cheek. "Mom, it'll be okay. I'll be okay" Bree whispers. She lowers her head to the floor, the sounds of her mother's sobs was enough to shatter her heart. Both her and Fallon walk onstage. Her head continued to stay hung low, hiding her tears. It wasn't until she reached the stage, with help from a Peacekeeper, when she lifts her head up. Staring forward at nothing.
