As Aspenheart continued patrolling, he came across a familiar scent. Flamingwind? Along with his comrade's smell was the faint trace of rat. Aspenheart began to follow the trail to greet Flamingwind. When he caught up to the other tom, he approached and noticed that he had come at just the right time, as Flamingwind seemed to have caught the rat. "Hello!" Stoatpaw was still sound asleep in the corner of the medicine cats' den despite Mountainrain's ramblings. His paw twitched and his ear flicked as he dreamed of chasing a hare into its burrow. He squeezed through the hole and scrambled through the dirt, pushing at it with his paws and squeezing himself through the narrow passages. No matter how hard he tried, the hare was always a mouse tail's length in front of him. Finally, he had to give up...

The young tom opened his eyes groggily and looked around the den. "Huh? Mountainrain, Lightwhisper, where'd you go...?" he blinked once more and stretched out his front paws before getting up, the crisp late leaf-fall air flowing through the den at a gentle, yet noticeable, pace. "They must be gone..." he murmured to himself and noticed that the floor of the den was unusually bare. Hardly any herbs were there--did something happen to them? Stoatpaw angled his ears towards the entrance of the den and decided to clear up the few shreds of herbs scattered in the corners of the den. After the useless and withered scraps were in a pile, he began to discard them.

Aspenheart was on a patrol of the territory, sniffing every slightly off scent his nose came across. So far, he had found the smells of a rabbit, two mice, and the patrol from yesterday. Nothing of note, he concluded, though kept up his diligent examination. Of course, he wouldn't rest until every inch of WindClan territory was scanned. But so far, he was tiring of his job he told himself he'd faithfully finish, and had almost quit and gone back to the camp a few times. However, he couldn't just give up as it was, and continued his rather time-consuming task.
