Hunter blinked. "Er... well, you're good company and all but it's been a while since I've had a friend. I'm not too sure I would be a particularly good one." He said, grasping for some way out of the situation. The easy thing would have been to say yes. However he was afraid that, with the way that Blaze's mind worked, that may be seen as an invitation for the Fennekin to pester him constantly. It wasn't that he particularly minded the Pokémon. He was set a bit on edge by his... excitability.

"Perhaps you could go see if any of the other Pokémon here have more... experience?"

"She's Ascending?" The Queen asked, her curiosity piqued. "Yes, that's what she just said." Jack confirmed. "It would appear that Naomi is... ah... seven percent faster and stronger than before she underwent her treatment with Kat." He told the Queen in a slightly hushed voice, allowing Sliuril to continue doing whatever she had to without needing to respond to the Queen. "She also seems to be acquiring some of that agitation that powerful beings are so famous for." He muttered.

The Lucario sized up Blaze for a moment and then shrugged. "My name's Hunter." He replied. "It's a..." Hunter hesitated. "Pleasure? Yeah. Pleasure to meet you." He said, just about keeping a straight face.

He noticed the Espeon coming back over the sand and tracked her progress. The Absol was still gone, though that could mean anything.

Jack smiled at that and decided that this was a debate he could sit out. It was then that the Queen entered the room and walked over to him.

"How is he?" She asked him. Jack shrugged. "I've received no further news." The Queen nodded and turned and jumped slightly, apparently noticing the others for the first time.

"What's this, an intervention?" She asked.

"You know, it's not as bad as all that." Hunter told Blaze. "I get to spend a lot of time on my own. Alone. With my thoughts. In peace and quiet." Hunter said wearily, rubbing his eyes and sitting up to look directly at the Fennekin. "I'm sorry, I didn't quite catch your name." The Lucario said.

Jack raised an eyebrow. It wasn't a conclusion he would have reached on his own, but he supposed it made sense. More than anything else he had been considering, at any rate.

That being said, he had no clue exactly what Ascending entailed. He was only aware of the term in a vague manner.

Hunter fronwed, watching the Espeon go. "Hmm? Oh. That's right. No trainer." He said. He briefly debated going after the Pokémon and then wondered how involved he wanted to get. After all, she hadn't made any indication that she wanted help. And he didn't know that she was going after the Absol. Maybe she just wanted to be somewhere where she couldn't hear Blaze.

Because Arceus knew that, now that the Absol was at a safe distance, he wouldn't mind if the Fennekin decided to go do something else.

"I can personally vouch that she hasn't been anywhere near you over the past day, and I'm sure the Queen will do so as well. Beyond that, I do believe that Kat has been regularly monitoring you. I don't think she would have appreciated anyone doing anything to her patient." He told Naomi.

"I'm afraid to say that I don't really see many ways she could have gotten you alone long enough to actually do anything."

Jack frowned under the Mask, unsure. Sliuril seemed sincere enough, but it was always difficult to tell with her. And Naomi really wasn't doing herself any favours by pursuing the matter. At least the Chaos forces had moved away. He somehow felt that this was the sort of matter that wouldn't reach a satisfactory conclusion at spearpoint.

"What makes you ask that?" He asked Naomi. Perhaps it was something perfectly explicable, a non-issue. That's what he was hoping for.

"Naomi, Faith." Jack said, a hint of warning in his voice. Then he turned to look directly into her faceplate.

"We don't need this right now." He told the SPARTAN. "And, I assure you, you don't want any form of altercation with anyone here." He muttered as an afterthought.

Hunter shook his head. "No, not now. Once, yes. But that," the Lucario said, lying back on the sand with a sigh, "was a very long time ago. I barely remember him, in fact. But I'm pretty sure he was an okay guy." Hunter paused, trying to recall something that validated that. Eventually, he shrugged.

"Or maybe he wasn't. It's all behind me now "

Jack heard the sudden commotion and quickly turned and ran back into the room, already weaving a spell.

"What happened?" He asked, taking in the entire scene. He slowly lowered his hand and the spell dissipated. He looked from person to person, searching for an answer.

"That's nice." Hunter had muttered while the Fennekin had been speaking about the plans to beat the gym. He sighed and looked down when he mentioned not knowing how to wake the trainer up. "Yeah, well..."

He was considering saying that no one else knew either, but taking a single look at the Fennekin, he decided that that wasn't what the Pokémon needed to hear.

"... I'm sure we'll figure it out eventually." He finished. It was only better if the Pokémon didn't really think about it and took it entirely on face value. So, all things considered, it was probably better.

Lucario sat back down, still watching the Absol carefully. "Tell me, how long has he been your trainer? Did he have any big plans before all of... this?" He asked, gesturing expansively. He hadn't really thought about wha he was going to talk about. He'd just thought it would be better for the Pokémon to be here, talking to him, as opposed to there, getting destroyed.

Hunter began idly tracing shapes in the sand, still listening, still staring into the fog, as if expecting something to emerge from it. With a sigh, he stood up and brushed himself off, looking at Blaze.

"I'm sure your trainer is a wonderful guy." He said gently. "But why don't you leave the Absol be for a moment and come talk to me about your trainer?'

The Queen paced up and down outside the area Kat was working in. Jack had fallen into a silent meditation. Death, as always, stood stock still, mentally discharging his duties in other parts of the world.

Suddenly, Jack threw his arms up with a growl. "This is pointless." He muttered. "I'm heading outside."

Hunter had watched the entire scene silently, sitting some distance away on the beach.

Huh. Perhaps sticking together wasn't the greatest of ideas. That situation had escalated far too quickly for his liking. He would have stepped in, and admired Katu for doing so, but he wasn't really in the mood to get shredded by a mega evolution.

"Oh, for the love of..." Hunter muttered, looking at the Fennekin. The Lucario didn't really like water. He certainly wasn't going to get in there when there was a perfectly good Miltoc a few meters away. And, to be honest, what did it matter? If the worst came to worst, the Pokémon would drown. Unfortunate but, hey, not really his problem.

"Dead, is it?" Death asked. "Strange. I would've thought that I of all people... nevermind, tell them." He said.

Jack sat down heavily. "He's... He's stubborn is what he is. You can count on him to pull through every time. And Kat didn't make any promises, but that woman is a miracle worker."

Going over what he'd just said, it sounded an awful lot like he was trying to convince himself more than anyone else.
