Compared to the others, Erin's waking was rather phlegmatic, but it was also slower. Her limbs surprisingly heavy, and her eyes weighed down, she spent her first few seconds in a static darkness. Dull brown eyes blinked once, twice, taking in her surrounding. After taking a moment to regain her bearings, the android realized that she didn't quite know where she was. It was very cold underneath her palms, which made her think of metal. She scratched the surface underneath her palm, and nodded when her fingernails all but glanced off the surface. Metal. That narrowed it down to two options. After a few seconds, she began to pick up on a faint vibration underneath her palms, like the metal underneath her hand was shifting. This made her frown, and attempt to sit up properly on her hands. Memories began to trickle into her mind again, bits and pieces that her system was able to retrieve in the meantime during her reboot process.

Immune to the voices of the other soldiers who had been imprisoned with her, FLC-2001's consciousness hovered in a limbo stasis. Her expression was perfectly stolid, unfeeling and unmoving as the mechanics in her brain ran a thorough diagnosis of her system. It wouldn't be the first time the android had been forced to shut down due to a system failure or mysterious glitch. While on the outside, it seemed that Erin hadn't survived the journey, but while her outside physiognomy suggested a stillness too uncanny for a human, even in unconciousness, her mechanical components were in fact very much active.

Lost in the tide of battle and yet not, Erin felt herself disappear into the fray, and FLC-2001 took her place. The android took life without conscience and without remorse. The ground's scarlet gradient shifted and expanded rhythmically. The faces blurred in front of enemy, the scanners built into her head separating enemy and ally. Her vision never blurred, never faltered. Sent into the field with one cold-cut purpose, she did not focus on the faces of the Red soldiers, nor the words they shouted towards her, lining them up with the bullseye-indicator in her vision, and pulling the trigger. Again and again and again. The sounds of battle swept around her, and she processed them without even noticing, absorbing information of ally and enemy both. Cool, unrelenting, precise. This was what she was meant for, her purpose. The pools of scarlet blood drew her forward, like a hound on the trail, and she followed its call. Aim and shoot, aim and shoot. If an android such as herself could express joy, then she might've been exultant at the current moment. But such emotions were just distractions, and so she shoved them aside. Again, she fired, killed, her movements too fast for her opponents to even raise their rifles. She might've felt bad for them. Maybe.

There were faces, of course, that seemed to stick out to her, even as she tried to ignore them. Hindered by too many enemies, her path became erratic, not really straight but not diagonal. All throughout, her face was a neutral mask betraying little emotion beyond stone-cold focus. It was almost eerie to see how little regard Erin had for the lives of her opponents, and how little the war seemed to be affecting her. Any real person would've been unable to process the carnage that lay before her, but FLC-2001's numbing headspace was a shield against reality. It was hard to feel pained for something when a firm emotional connection was absent. It made fighting easier. It made sleeping at night even easier, even though she never had nightmares. A splash of blue flashed in the corner of her eye, her brain registering the distinctive cerulean hue of thirium 310 blood only a millisecond before her body jerked to the right, a new wound opening up in her shoulder blades. Cerulean ink leaked from the wound, staining the ground blue, pooling to make purple. An uncharacteristic expression of irritation bled over FLC-2001's normally placid facade and she lashed out without even thinking. The soldier's figure was fragile— when she pounced on him with his throat in her claws, she watched the light leave his eyes without a struggle. As if he had been waiting to die this whole time.

For some reason, FLC-2001 couldn't imagine what that felt like.

The android wasn't prepared for the battlefield to go silent, nor for the fighting to end so soon. When the din of artillery ceased, she found herself caught off guard, a confused furrow on her brow. What happened—? All she saw was bodies upon bodies, as if everyone had been laid down to rest by a single spell. Gas? Distantly, she saw the others she had been deployed with immediately turn to bolt, seeking to make their escape while there was no one to stop them. No, you— Wresting control of her body back from FLC-2001's pernicious numbness, Erin lunged after them, a stinging rebuke on her lips. What if there were people hiding in the trees, they—

An impact to her left took advantage of her diverted attention, throwing her to the ground and kicking up dust. An angry yell tore from her, more from shock than any version of pain. Unfamiliar voices, unfamiliar pain. A stab of chagrin that turned to indignation registered within her as she realized that she had allowed them to get close, a common humanlike error. Stupid, stupid! A fist to the face knocked the soldier pinning her aside, and she soon followed up with a knee to the gut. He barked and scrambled aside, but as she fought to rise, something jabbed into her neck, right above the port.

Electricity blasted away her world. A spasm tore down the column of her spinal cord, leaping from the specialized taser into her system. Error messages enveloped her vision until she couldn't see anything else.

In a cyborg act of self preservation, she shut down.

Quote from Charley_warlzzHi! I, too, am writing about characters with wings, so i feel your pain.

A lot of this depends on how their wings work, but I'll try and help!

Bed: depends. You specified that the wings grow in childhood - so, presumably, they will spend their nights lying flat, since they likely wouldnt have the balance to sleep standing/crouching etc without the wings. Nor do they have the right feet to hold on to stuff. So beds would probably the best - maybe slightly wider than normal beds to fit them in. For comfort purposes, they'd probably lie on their side (for their tail) or stomach, but the wings would still probably get in the way. Maybe they fold in, which makes it easier for them to sleep (but still only on their side or stomach - think about what happens when you fall asleep on your arm. Its horrible.) Maybe they wrap around the character when they sleep - this not only makes sense because they wouldn't get cramped, but also provides them with warmth and protection. However, you'd have to consider which parts of the wings would get sore if you lay on them - maybe if the main part (feathers, or the flaps in bat wings, etc - parts that arent just structural) can be leaned on, you can have it so they sleep on that part and the rest of the wing goes around them. Also, i imagine large quilts would be constricting for the wings - even sheets would be iffy. They live in a fairly warm place though, so maybe they wont be necessary anyway. If they are, though, they could maybe have a section cut out for the wings, or go under them.

Furniture: i think for the most part, furniture could be normal. But maybe for chairs, you could specifically use stools so the wings can spread out - the backs of chairs are specifically for balance, so are kind of unnecessary when you have wings. This also allow the tail some space if its above the butt, if it's below you could maybe have a hole in the stool. Or maybe have a really short back that stops before the point where the wings join the skin, so they can jut over the top, and a cut out in the centre for the tail. As for decorations, maybe they should have very little clutter that could be knocked over. I knock enough things over with my arms, i couldn't imagine what i'd do with wings. Especially if they were just growing into them - they'd be running into them left and right! Also, thats a good point for child proofing the houses - two extra appendages need to be acknowledged. Plus, young kids are likely to try and fly, so maybe no glass coffee tables - that could lead to injuries.

Formal attire: Low backs are your friend - backless dress, low backed tops, tunic-esque things. Maybe they could have shirts that can be pulled up so the wings come through slits in the back that can be fastened. Or some kind of tie could be used to pull in together at the top. Maybe shirts that have a hole cut into the back, so the wings go through. The tails easier - low hung pants or holes will do. Bare skin might not bother these people, since theyre all in the same boat. This one is slightly more difficult.

Weapons: Bow and arrow, crossbow, throwing knives etc - anything ranged. You don't want to be getting into close combat while midair, in case you fall. Bow and arrows or a crossbow is probably the best, since knives are (probably) more expensive to make and harder to find again. Also, its easier to aim with bows and crossbows - especially if they have one of those target scope eyepiece things i cant remember the name of. Between them, a bow and arrow is probably the best - a crossbow require less effort to shoot, but more to set up and aim, while you just need to nock, point and shoot with a bow. Also, bows are lighter and can be compacted easier. If they use a bow though, note that they will need good upper body strength (bows are harder than they look to use) and a good eye. Also: if they're hunting from the air, how good is their eyesight? It might be good if they have some kind of glasses/binoculars to look though. Actually, goggles would be a good idea (bugs might get in their eyes otherwise! Plus, night fvision). Also, what about the tail - does it just flail around a lot when they fly or can they tuck it in? Not to mention hair getting everywhere - do they wear it back?

Architecture im homes: Open spaces. Everywhere. They're gonna need to stretch they're wings. Plus, i mentioned the decorations. I imagine they'd have lots of high places, but likely only in teenagers/adults rooms for when they can fly. Childrens rooms may have a lot of places they can sit that they can reach on their own (maybe using a ladder or footholds) so they can feel high/grown up. I imagine the only things near the floor would be kids stuff, because bending over with wings is awkward. Also, maybe cupboards wouldnt need them to fly to be reached - i mean, we as a species aim to do the least amount of effort. Why go to the next room when you can put a shelf here? Why fly when you can not? Doorways would probably have to be wide and (depending on the height of the wings) tall. Maybe there's no doorways at all - just many open plan rooms. As for stairs versus ladders - stairs are probably the best because you can just walk up and down, where as theyd have to fit their wings through an opening with ladders. But either works, really.

Playgrounds: Yeah, slides are a no-go, and i would say round-a-bouts too, because their wings might make them do a kite thing and take off. See-saws would be good, assuming the wings aren't long enough to get trod on. Also, climbing frames: ones that are like climbing walls with steps or hand holds or foot holes etc are good, but ones with ropes might get in the way or get tangled in the wings. Or they might be fine. Depends of the wings. But these would be good for children who want to experience flying! Swings should be good.

Bathing: i would say both showers and baths have drawbacks. Primarily, in a shower, they might want to stretch their wings - might have to to clean properly - and wouldn't have room. Baths are cramped too. I would suggest maybe a large, circular bath - like a jacuzzi? - so they have enough spaces. Or they clean their wings separately, in which case i would still recommend a bath, because the wings might not be good if theyre wet. But then this raises the question of hair - it really depends on how they would clean.

Sports: climbing competitions, tightrope things, those rope tyre things, balancing games (like who can balance ona beam the longest), games that involve two levels - eg football but only the people in the air can hold it, and the people in the ground can just either kick it to them or into the goal. Or a basket ball game where one person (the shooter) has to fly and the others have to try and pass it too them. These can all pretty much be adapted for kids or adults.

Toilets: normal toilets should be fine!

Cooking: this depends on how much control they have over their wings. If it's a lot (ie theyre like extra arms) open fires should be fine, because you're not likely to accidentally drop your arm in flames. I imagine theyd learn to cope. However, oven might be safer anyway.

Other: if they have feathers or scales, they will probably moult. This might cause problems with cleaning. However, feathers and scales might have useful properties, or superstitious ones. Also, if they grow their wings as a child, it will probably hurt - like teething. So pain management might be necessary. They might enjoy ,being in high places - like platforms and stuff in random places. Also, wings would probably show off a lot of their emotions - it's like a second face they need to hide.

Title: 002. ── [ ✧ erin ]

i'll add the heading later don't kill me please :3

There were few things that FLC-2001 possessed in scarcity of, but there was not one time where she could recall a faltering of the hand, a weakness in mind and will when combat was involved. No, this was what she was meant to do, ever since her consciousness was granted to her for the first time. Because on a battlefield, a wavering nerve was fatal, offering opponents a wide opening to strike, to kill. Perhaps a good dose of fear would've seemed more realistic for a soldier on their first deployment, but she experienced no such quavering. Sometimes, however, it seemed that there were some quirks not fully integrated into her programming. It granted her the best of both words. A human's mind, but not their softhearted worries that could be the difference between life and death. The blood below formed a red carpet, hailing the helicopters as they descended from the heavens into the battlefront below. When she saw the blood below, strewn from bodies, FLC-2001 thought it looked like a red carpet, welcoming them into hell.

But those were just her imagination, and all the android was meant to do was to focus on the present. Her movements were fluid like a well-oiled machine as she pulled out the parachute under her seat, ripping open the straps in carefully controlled movements until the parachute came free around her like a white cloud; and then settled down her back as she donned the straps. There was no fear, no anxiety, just a calm that settled around her nerves as she walked to the edge of the helicopter, eyes already scouting out the most optimal drop-zone. The sensors built into her helmet monitored the rate of their descent, covering the left side of her vision in numbers. altitude 10,000 meters and dropping...current velocity 50 knots and increasing. She took a breath, feeling the wind rush into her face and knot the loose strands of her hair. Clouds loomed ominously in the distance, storm clouds grey and brooding but still distant. A shuffling of bodies around her and the rest of the experiments

there was a sparrow outside her window.

silently, the android came up from the depths of her dormancy, eyes focused entirely on the tiny avian as it ruffled its feathers, hoping around aimlessly as if unbothered of the predator on the other side of the glass. so small, and so delicate. somehow, she wondered what it was doing there, what purpose it had in such a large world, and whether there was any true meaning to its existence. who cared if it lived, if it died. as quickly as the thought surfaced, she dismissed it. killing such a small, tiny thing was not worth the effort. as if reading her thoughts, the simulation distorted, and the cool mirror-smooth wall returned. just another simulation designed to distract her. the lights attached to the ceiling reflected off the polished walls, enforcing the clinical environment each android grew up in. with a huff, erin threw back the sheets on her cot, and gave herself the luxury of a quick stretch before tucking on her usual military attire. deft fingers quickly folded back the sleeves and the collar-wings folded to hug gently hang over her collarbones. the actions were so effortless to the android it was almost second nature. artificial and clinical, just like everything else around her, but so deceptively humanoid. feeling prepared, she opened the sliding door with a flick of her hand, the wireless connection connected and broken with barely a second to its name.

automatically rejoining the facility's network, as she did every morning, the android noticed a notification hanging around at the edge of her vision. she pulled it up with half a thought, and the messaging simulation appeared on the 'screen' in front of her vision, informing her to make her way to the airport for immediate deployment. the android frowned as she shut the door, walking swiftly towards her designation, all the while reading over the message. the corridors, a veritable labyrinth to any inexperienced wanderers, was as coldly polished as her quarters, cold and spotless. it emphasized a sterility that symbolized unfaltering resolve. but that wasn't erin's focus today; in fact, most of her attention still remained on the message.

she believed humans were capable of efficient time management, but they weren't the same ones who programmed her. it was pointless to juxtapose a wolf and sheep; the wolf was the impetus to galvanize the flock into action. the sheep had no drive to succeed when there was no threat. they ran like lemmings into the net, driven by their own foolish ignorance. maybe the war was merely sleight of hand for natural selection but the thoughts of men playing god with the concept of science as their facade bothered her in ways she could not explain just yet, so she dismissed the thought. it seemed to be a pointless action to keep going down that thread anyway. too, human. ironically, unbeknownst to the android in question, at the last board meeting regarding the android

at her brisk pace, she reached the three guards standing alert by the door, all of which stiffened at the sight of the android. captain wilson, the one in the center greeted her with cold, military precision. "𝙵𝙻𝙲-𝟸𝟶𝟶𝟷. we were just ready to take off." his featureless mask gave away none of his tone, but the sophisticated technology hardwired into erin's android brain gave his impatience anyway. the restlessness of his feet, the tensing of his broad shoulders. a small nod befell her chin, but otherwise, her features were schooled into a cold indifference that was typical etiquette of such situations. "sorry for keeping you." she replied coolly without much of an apology in her neutral voice. androids and humans regarded each other with a sort of grudging respect, even the skillful ones. erin, naturally, didn't pay it much mind, deeming it more tolerable than the subpar treatment she witnessed outside the facility. the tension dissipated like smoke, and the soldier scanned open the door without a glance. she paid him no more heed than the dust on her shoe when the balmy summer air fell upon her skin.

climbing inside the chopper, she was greeted with the stuffy cramped compartments which weighed heavily with anxiety and stress. everything became a little too loud, the thmp of her black combat boots, breathing, shifting weight, the feeling of others eyes on hers. she didn't realize how large the deployment force was, and tried not to make eye contact with any of the other members. the android focused her attention inwards, sitting down elegantly in her seat.

the huntress

Her innocent feelings are belittled [...] and she learns to ignore her feelings. She can’t afford to feel the full range of feelings in her body [...] pain, outrage, hate, vengeance [...] she short-circuits [...] and goes numb. [...][T]he only recourse is to shut down. Feelings go underground.

Power
Android
Despite what her appearance might suggest, Erin is not human in the slightest. Rather, she is a synthetic humanoid android, given artificial intelligence and a human conscience in order to further mimic human unpredictability and blend into civilian crowds when necessary. Similar to her predator bird namesake, Erin was intended for crowd control, and apprehension and detainment. Her build is athletic and toned, almost unnaturally so. Androids were created to be immune to damage, however, they are capable of mimicking a similar behavior to what humans might do in the event of damage to their bio-components. Androids do not have the same blood as humans do, rather, they bleed blue — thirium 310 — which also allows androids to glean information about model number and serial number. As an android, FLC200 is capable of wirelessly communicating with technology or communication systems by merely touching it or through a wireless connection.

Androids are able to perform at or above human levels both physically and mentally. Erin is higher in both of those categories. She is a deadly fighter, not simply because of her discipline and relentless focus on finding her prey, but also because of her programming. The android has what is called 'hunting intuition.' Her senses stretch far beyond that of a normal human, which makes her a formidable huntress. To add on to that, the model was designed for enhanced strength, speed and agility.

Even if FLC200 was created to assimilate into a crowd, her emotions are not a perfect replica of human emotions. Trust is not foolproof - she doesn't place her faith in others based on a positive connection, and the android is foreign to the concept of true comaraderie. If you go against her, you become a liability to be eliminated. Her creators deliberately left out or eliminated feelings of sympathy and selfless concern in her programming because they created an android to focus only on her assignment. Her artificial consciousness allows her to follow a human-like thought process and world-view, and sometimes, the android finds herself wondering what it would be like to be a human.

Most damning of all, even if they removed most of her more human-like emotions, she swears that she feels remorse for the disappearance of the other androids.

Background
- Initially created as the first android in a taskforce of five inspired by various avians. (taskforce falconiformes)
- FLC-2001 (soon after named erin) was inspired by the peregrine falcon. HRN-2002 (lysander) was inspired by the great blue heron, RVN-2003 (fallon) was inspired by the common raven, KSL-2004 (kenneth) was inspired by the mauritius kestrel, and SWN-2005 (quill) was inspired by the mute swan.
- Due to Blue's penchant for carrying out ruthless experimentations, or perhaps because of the higher-up's twisted sense of humor, each of the androids were given their own personalities and human consciences. However, at the same time, the androids received a limited amount of free-will. They were essentially shackled to their programming without their knowledge.
- After completing several (deadly) simulations, the androids were deemed ready for (limited) human interaction - though only Erin and Lysander ever took them up on the opportunity.
