"As you say." Hunter shrugged, staring into the eyes of the other Pokémon. Then he turned away, thinking. "I wish I had more to tell too." The Lucario muttered. Leaning forward, he mulled over the events of the day silently, staring at the ground in front of his feet.

Hunter turned to look at the Pokémon that had spoken. It was a moment before he noticed that there were two looking at him. He blinked. "Well, we don't know much about the fog. But it seems to be sending all humans to sleep and some Pokémon besides. Back there, we were looking for a friends and these... guys in suits started attacking us. We got away but... they got two of our friends." He said, trying to give a shrug.

The King chuckled softly, a sound that made Jack shudder. "How tiresome." He muttered. "Please, don't let my presence hinder you." The King said, closing his eyes. Whatever Kat had done, she had done it well. But she was only human. He slowly began healing the damage that she had failed to heal and left to time instead.

Hunter walked into the center of the town and sat down of the rim of the fountain with a sigh. "Well, I think the markeplace is right over there. I'm sure they'd keep a stock of berries." He told Katu, pointing down one of the roads that lead off the square. Then he hesitated. "And thanks for what you did back there. Seriously." He said.

The King walked into the room where the others were assembled. Jack bowed and the Queen watched silently as the King limped over to a small stone table and sat down heavily.

"Well?" The Queen asked eventually, concern in her voice.

"I'll live." The King grunted.

Death teleported into the room, bowing. "My lord."

The King acknowledged his presence with a nod. "You did well." He said. "All of you." He told the others in the room. "Tell me, what did I miss while I was... our?" He asked.

Hunter felt himself being pulled back and let it happen. As soon as he was clear of the fight, he turned and ran. He just about glimpsed Katu and ran after her, sparing a look over his shoulder. He saw the Absol being absorbed and Blaze being picked up and felt a slight pang of regret. But he shook his head and continued running, trying to convince himself that there was nothing to be done.

Hunter tried to disengage and follow Katu, but he saw the attacks coming from the other two Pokémon. He tried to sidestep the sucker punch and grunted as it caught him a glancing blow in the arm. He decided that close combat was the way to go and pushed the Mawlie back. But there was no avoiding the fire blast, and it was a type weakness. He leaned into the wave, crossing his arms in front of his head to try to absorb the majority of the move. But it definitely hurt. A lot.

Once the wave of fire had passed, he straightened up, his fur singed. He knew staying wasn't an option. He fired of several Aura Spheres in quick succession to cover his retreat.

Kat had done what she could and now sat against the raised slab that the King was resting on. Suddenly, she heard a groan and got up quickly to see the King begin to move. One of his eyes opened beneath the Mask, squinting. Slowly, he opened up both. He cautiously felt his chest and then the Mask, running the guantleted hand across the lines of the crack. Then, he noticed Kat.

"Are you okay?" Kat asked.

The King hesitated and then slowly shook his head. "Help me up." He whispered.

Kat grabbed the King's arm and, grunting with the effort, helped pull him into a sitting position. He swung his legs over the side of the slab and then, once again with Kat's support, stood up. "You tell no one about that." He whispered.

Kat nodded.

The King paused and then nodded back. "Thank you." He said, louder. Then, he turned towards the doorway and walked out of the area Kat had been treating him in, limping slightly and with a hand clutched to his chest.

Hunter had also followed the sounds of the fight. Now that he saw it, he wasn't sure there was to be done. Katu had given them a bit of time, but that was long gone. Now, he watched the two approaching Pokémon, unsure of what to do. He was confident that her be able to take on at least one of them, but the Absol seemed to have a plan of some sort.

"Risky plan." He muttered to himself, never taking his eyes off the approaching Pokémon.

"Depends on what you mean by 'coming back'. To the Void? He's welcome whenever he wants. But he has maintained that his interests lie largely in this realm. The rest of the Court, however, leave at the first opportunity. And this time, I think we won't get involved." She glanced over her shoulder at the room where Kat was treating the King.

Jack turned to Sliuril. "If you think my interference could cause problems, you just have to say the word. Otherwise, I think I'll let them return to the Void on their own."

"Your words are wise." Hunter said, watching the Fennekin run away. He stared at the place Blaze had disappeared before glancing to the heavens for support and letting out a sigh. "Come on." He groaned and jogged after the Pokémon.

"Whatever it is, you'll be facing it alone." The Queen said. "As soon as the King is back on his feet, the Court is going back to the Void."

Jack tilted his head inquisitively.

"The King, Death and myself." The Queen clarified. "The Crawler was our main priority in this realm."

Jack shrugged and gave a deferential half-bow.

"As you say."

"Hey, don't look at me. I was down at the beach trying to explain why I'm a terrible friend." Hunter shrugged. "I'm sort of a stranger myself. I guess I came in via Route 53, but who knows what she was thinking?" He sighed and looked around at the sleeping Pokémon. "This is a fine mess." He muttered.

"Why do we switch from one world-ending threat to another like this? I'm sure it can't be beneficial for our health." Jack said. "And of course it's your unstable sister. What else?" He muttered. "And," Jack gave a short laugh, "naturally she's Glaurug's protectee. At least we could exploit that in some way?"

Hunter sprinted to her and skidded to a halt. He narrowed his eyes and looked around. "Can't be the fog..." He muttered to himself. "Some Pokémon have moved which allow them to put others to sleep. Maybe..." He suggested. "Hold on, that Absol stormed into town. Maybe she was around, saw what happened?"

"And what might be happening with them?" Jack asked, tilting his head. "And, regardless of what Concord says, does the situation call for our direct intervention? I do believe that the UNSC has been quite self-sufficient through this war. Ignoring, of course, the times it fell to the likes of us to ensure that there was still something left to have a war over."

"It's as good a place to go as any." Hunter nodded, getting up. "But, and I don't want to be pessimistic here, this fog and sleeping thing may be a little beyond anything we can handle." He said, glancing over at Blaze.

Jack frowned and slipped into his Soul Sight and immediately back out, confused by what he had seen. "Magesight, eh?" He muttered. "There's certainly untapped power there." He said, more to himself than anyone else.

Now it was Jack's turn to be curious. "Things?" He asked, ignoring the fact that it was hardly as if Sliuril would have gone down a different path of questioning. In his experience, seeing things could either be very good or very bad. And, being oblivious of the process of Ascension, he wasn't sure if it could be dangerous or not.
