Not good...

The movement was small. Tayla would've missed it if not for the fact that she was trying look anywhere but at Razor. For a second she thought she imagined it- the crow in the sky. But her eyes follow the bird as it sails towards the ground and perches onto a stranger's shoulder. Where did she come from?

Her hand moves towards her back on instinct and she grasps at nothing. That's right, I left the crossbow at home. She tries to lower her hand as casually as possible. Easy now... She glances at Razor at the corner of her eye. Was he seeing this? "We have company" she whispers.

She didn't want to assume that this stranger was dangerous. She couldn't be, if she were, why would she not try to hide herself? But her paranoia cautioned her to not lower her guard. Next to her, Faustus was doing a poor job at pretending to not see the woman. His ears were pulled back and he was growling at the stranger.

The sudden aggression should've scared her. In fact, it should've been terrifying to the weaponless girl. Yet she only felt relieved. Because there it was! This was what she was searching for. His fighting spirit. Nobody could survive this long on their own without one. So why did he keep it hidden for so long?

Laughing out loud, Tayla stops walking to meet his gaze, at least before he turned away. "Now, now, no need to bite my head off" she replies smoothly, the smug smile never leaving her lips. "I apologise, I really didn't mean to ask that out loud. I was just curious. It's understandably a touchy subject."

She narrows her eyes, watching him closely. The scratches... something had to happen to him, but what? "You speak with such contempt..." She turns away, dismissively staring at the road ahead. "I won't pry anymore." She promises.

"That's a very good question and I'm afraid I don't have much of an answer for it" Tayla replies. "He appeared shortly after the world fell apart. I would've chased him off if not for this odd connection I feel towards him... It's as if he is another physical part of myself." That theory proved to be true, because whenever Faustus got injured she did as well. Fortunately, the intelligent creature didn't get injured all that often.

Tayla walks in silent for a moment, watching as Faustus pretends to act indifferent towards the creature. But his gaze keeps returning to the creature and the road ahead, as if he were afraid that a sudden danger would randomly appear at any moment and target the smaller animal.

"What's wrong with your eyes?" The question slips out without warning. Tayla's eyes widen when she realizes that she had blurted that out. "You don't need to answer that if you don't want to" she quickly adds.

"Hm, exercise huh?" That didn't sound like a stretch. After all, in this cutthroat world, survival came down to the fittest. Still, she couldn't remember the last time she partook in recreational activities. Scratch that, she couldn't remember the last time she needed to partake in recreational activities. Her job was physically demanding enough.

She had a feeling that Razor wouldn't want to have a conversation with her and the last thing she wanted to do was to seem like she was antagonizing him. So instead she silently treads alongside him, keeping her eyes and ears peeled for danger. Whenever it was a creature or another person, she would have to stay alert.

Faustus would be better for the job, but he seemed to be following alongside her only because he had to. He had returned his gaze to Diablo, curious of the creature and what it was doing. Tayla would be lying if she said she wasn't curious as well but she doesn't question Razor about it. Maybe it's time for a change in career? Tayla wonders with a smile.

"Excellent" Tayla replies. Like Razor, she didn't exactly have lots of experience with socializing casually with others. Unless you count flaunting your skills and intimating an enemy as a social skills. Yeah... Maybe not.

Still, she knew that it wouldn't be too comforting to have a stranger suddenly join in on your activities. Especially in this world. In his shoes, she'd be planning an escape. Tayla was a walking red flag afterall. She may be weaponless, but that didn't exactly mean she wasn't a threat. She knew what comes next, she should try to seem less like an enemy and more like a good Samaritan.

"What are you doing by the way?" She asks as casually as possible. She is careful to keep her distance to hopefully keep Razor at ease. "I'm Tayla- Tayla Mckee, by the way. Pleasure to meet you. Don't fret all that much, I promise I won't demand any payment for your temporary bodyguard services" she adds with an amused grin. Her eyes dart away from to scan the surroundings. She didn't see anyone the last few minutes she looked around for danger and the results were still the same now. Still, one could never be too careful.

That's when Faustus joins her. His gaze settles on the smaller creature for a moment before he turns away dismissively to stand by Tayla's side. He was far calmer now than he was just seconds ago. Paying more attention to a small sound in the distance- presumably a rat moving around nearby- than the two newcomers standing in front of them.

Maybe it was the way the boy was clearly straining his eyes to see her. Or maybe it was the way the boy didn't seem to be in a hurry to grab a weapon, or even move for that matter that caused her to relax. They weren't a threat and if they were, he was putting on an Oscar worthy performance to make her lower her guard. Once again, she glares at Faustus. Why had he reacted to them as if they were a threat when they clearly weren't?

Still, she wouldn't be a fool. It was dangerous to lower your guard. But she couldn't help but pity the poor boy. "I'm sorry" she mumbles, glancing away in obvious embarrassment. "I thought you were here to rob me... Or worse." Without moving her head, she glances sideways at him. It was unlikely, but not impossible, that he was passing by just to go on a recreational walk. Maybe he was looking for supplies? But with an eye-sight like that, it wouldn't be an easy task.

It's not your problem... Just leave it. It's not you're pro-

"If you're looking for supplies you won't find anything in this area. I also wouldn't recommend walking around here" she explains remembering Darren. Just because Darren wasn't a threat then doesn't mean he wouldn't be a threat later. "Would you like some help?" She offers.

A sudden growl causes Tayla to snap out of her trance. She glances over towards the hole in their 'house.' Faustus was perched by the entrance, his tail lashing and his shoulders hunched, as if he were prepared to pounce. He turns his head towards her, as if to see if she were paying attention before once again returning his gaze to the road. Slowly and ever so quietly Tayla rises to her feet. Her crossbow was all the way across the room and based upon Faustus' reaction, the danger was close. Would she want to risk going after her weapon and possibly drawing attention to herself? Then there was the situation of having to carry it through the crawlspace. An easy, but not so quiet task. Even dragging herself through it wasn't a quiet task. Maybe she should just stay in hiding? But if, whoever was approaching them, were dangerous, she would be trapped. It wouldn't exactly be difficult to smoke them out.

Yet another growl erupts from Faustus followed by a hiss. Yep, hiding wasn't going to be an option at this rate. Tayla lowers her head, shaking it and laughing. Would she even want to stay in hiding anyway? That was boring. If someone were stupid enough to hunt her in the daylight, then she would take them by surprise!

Fueled by that prideful thought, Tayla reacts without logical thought. She leaves her weapons behind and crawls through the opening. Tayla kicks the rope down and leaps off the ledge, landing smoothly on the ground. She winces before rising to her feet. Her landing may have been clean, but jumping off a twelve foot drop onto gravel wasn't exactly painless.

She narrows her eyes at the tasmanian devil and boy standing before her. They had yet to react to her surprising entrance, but was it possible they were just passing through? She turns to look towards Faustus, glaring at him before returning her gaze to the intruders. "What brings you over here?" She asks coldly. "If you came here to rob me then I'm afraid you just made a very crucial mistake!"

Tayla hadn't given Darren a second thought as she slinks back into the shadows to make her escape. The body though, she gave it a final look, but only to retrieve her arrow before finally leaving the scene behind.

She was suddenly eager to return home. She hadn't expected to be out this long. She had only wanted to visit Lucius for about twenty minutes. Long enough to terrify the man before finally killing him. But that backfired quickly. She couldn't help but feel trapped, like the walls were slowly closing in on her. With each person she killed, she became less and less of a person. Would there be a day when she would be hunted as well? Live by the sword, die by the sword...

The trip was long, but Tayla didn't mind. It gave her an opportunity to clear her head. The two arrive at what was probably once a small office building. It had almost completely caved in. About twelve feet up was a small opening. A broken window perhaps? Or maybe a large vent? Faustus, as always, jumps on a piece of rubble and easily dives into the opening. As usual, Tayla smirks at the sight. "Show off" she tells Faustus who in return lifts his chin up proudly before lowering his head to watch her. There was a piece of rope hanging off the small entrance. She grabs the rope and leans back, effortlessly scaling up the building. Or at least, it looks effortless, the only sign of her hard work was her ragged breathing when she reached the top.

Both her and Faustus crawl through the opening and arrive in a single room. The floor was once made of rubble, but Tayla managed to gather some lumber to create an actual floor. The work wasn't neat, but it worked. She grabs the rope and hauls it up into her home so nobody could enter behind her before surveying her limited supplies to ensure that nothing was taken. She would have to go hunting soon, maybe search for more water. But for now, she just wanted to rest. She puts her crossbow away and practically collapses onto her pile of blankets.

She turns to face the wall on her left, her hand was outstretched, cupped open by muscle memory to lay underneath a locket hanging on a nail. The necklace was once her mother's. The picture inside was quickly fading, but she could still make out the picture inside. The girl in the picture was surrounded by a smiling family. The girl here was different from the girl now. There were times when she wondered what her family would've thought of her. If they knew what she would've become, would they have hated her? In her story, she was a villain walking down a dark path with good intentions.

Maverick Ashenfall

~"Sanity is a madness put to good uses." (-George Santayana)~

Gender: Male

Age: 20

Personality: Maverick normally doesn't take anything seriously. Most would think that there is not a single intelligent thought in his mind due to the way he acts. He can be very bold and daring, seemingly acting on impulse. His insane personality tends to drive people away for fear they'll be roped into something dangerous. At the end of the day though, Maverick is extremely caring. He just has a horrible way of showing it. He can be extremely loyal-- when he takes the time to make an effort and show it. Befriend Maverick, and you'll have a strong and worthy friend. Get on his bad side and... well, let's hope you don't find out for yourself.

Appearance: Maverick has long lengths of unruly silver and electric blue hair. His eyes are mismatched from a freak lab accident. His eyes are green and grey, with his grey eye having slightly worse vision than his green one. Maverick usually has his hair tied back, he wears a lab coat, closed-toed boots, and gloves (a safe boi). He wears a simple graphic t-shirt and jeans underneath his open lab coat. Over his graphic t-shirt is a chest holster that holds vials of chemicals rather than a gun. Maverick finishes the look by having a gas mask attached to his hip at all times. Just in case...

Skills: If Maverick were a video game character, all of his points would be inserted into 'luck.' He loves mixing together different chemicals to see what'll happen. Sometimes he'll drink said chemicals- testing them out on an animal or another person goes against his ethics. Surprisingly enough, nothing too horrible has come out of doing that [don't be like Maverick kids]. His efforts seem to be worth it because he discovered a few tonics than can temporarily enhance strength, agility, and healing abilities. He's been keeping these discoveries quiet though. The money wouldn't be worth it if these tonics fell into the wrong hands.

Weaknesses: Maverick isn't too physically strong, nor is he the best fighter.

Weapons: Maverick carries around dangerous chemicals. But when those fail, he always has his trusty backup double barrel shotgun

He was right, again. But even with last names being utterly useless, Tayla refused to drop it. It was one of the last things tying her back to her family. Even though it's been years since she lost them the pain has never really left. But now wasn't the time to look back on those painful memories. "Maybe so..." is all she says about that matter.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Darren. Although please understand that I mean no offense when I say that I hope we don't meet again." She would never openly admit it, but she wasn't willing to trust others so easily. She managed to survive this long on her own so she was obviously doing something right. She turns around to face the road she had just ran across earlier, Faustus once again taking her side without verbal command. "I wish you the best of luck in surviving in this new world."

Darren's sudden relaxed demeanor was contagious. Tayla finds herself relaxing as well. Things could change, but at the moment, it would appear that Darren had no intentions in fighting her. She smiles and glances down at Faustus, who, like her, suddenly seemed much more relaxed. He was suddenly laying down on the ground and looked to be asleep. But the slight tension in his shoulders and swiveling of ears told otherwise.

"No" she admits. "I never really had an interest in learning about animals growing up. I never thought that information would be useful. I guess you can say that I was wrong." She catiously holds a hand out towards Darren, still wary that his companion would suddenly bite her. "I believe it's about time I introduce myself. My name is Tayla Mckee. And you mysterious stranger- what's your name?"

Even though she was reluctant to follow the orders of this strange man, Tayla knew that there was no use in continuing to hold her weapon. She couldn't even safely load and fire it, even if it came down to it. Darren was close, too close. She couldn't help but wonder if he has intentionally chosen to put this much distance between them She straps the crossbow onto her back, looking away from Darren for only a few seconds before she fixes her eyes back onto him again.

She wants to ask him how he knew of Lucius. Or, if he, like her, hunted criminals. But all her questions were silenced as she struggles to think of a way out of this mess. She didn't expect him to be this big. It wasn't only his physical advantages that worried her, it was also the way he stood comfortably and confidently in front of her. Everything is just going wrong today huh? Tayla thinks to herself with a smile.

Nothing could be done. All she had to do was keep this man talking. If they were talking, she could think of a way to escape. If they were talking, then he probably wouldn't think to turn on her. "He did, but that's in the past now. I suppose I should thank you for your efforts in helping me take him down." She looks away from him and at the serpent. She still had no idea what type of snake that was, but she was willing to bet anything that it was venomous and probably what attacked Lucius. She is once again reminded that in this world, a bite by a snake is almost a death wish. "It looks like you had a bit of help," she says while nodding towards the coffin head.

Her body stiffens when she realizes that the voice was a lot closer than what she had expected. She shouldn't be surprised, yet she was. Did this person really stick around to watch Lucius die? She couldn't blame him, her actions weren't much better. Yet she still fixes a judgemental stare towards the building on her left side.

Slowly and catiously, she shuffles her feet around to face the shadows of the building. Her eyes squinting as she struggles to see what, or more who, was inside. A flicker of movement, too small for an innocent person to notice, but large enough to set off alarm bells for someone who is use to living life on the edge catches her eye. She takes a step back when she notices the tail of a serpent. Was that a serpents tail? Maybe it were an old hose? Or a piece of fabric? No matter, she wasn't willing to take any chances. Not in a world where even basic medicine was scarce. Keep your distance. Next to her, Faustus was baring his teeth and pulling his ears back. Yep, something about this situation was alarming to them. But she didn't know exactly what it was that alarmed them yet. Maybe it was how mysterious the guy was? Or maybe it was the threat of this guy being dangerous?

But here this poor man stood, patiently awaiting a reply while she stood here, practically cowering before him. She was better than this. She straightens up and glares into the darkness. "It would appear your God has cursed me with the same bloodlust" she replies with a chuckle. "It's a common thing to see here. In my experience, there seems to be two types of survivors. The ones who hide and the ones who continue to fight. But here I go, rambling on about things that don't matter. Tell me, why did you attack this man-" and do you plan on doing the same to me? She didn't dare speak the final part. She had yet to lower her unloaded crossbow. The weapon in her hand made her feel safe, even if she couldn't use it right now.

If there was anything Tayla hated more then men like Lucius. It was when her prey was stolen away from her. Especially in this world. God only knows how much time she spent tracking this man. All her wasted days she spent following him, learning his habits, waiting patiently for the perfect moment to strike. She even had a whole speech prepared. But it was all for nothing.

Lucius' screaming lured her out of the shadows. She had purposely chosen a building close to Lucius. While she had missed where the attack came from, it was clear from his screams that something terrible had happened. She didn't bother checking her surroundings. Whoever attacked Lucius was bound to be close by and they would be a fool to target her. Or was it the other way around?

Lucius squirms around pitifully at her feet and desperately reaches towards her foot. His eyes flashing in recognition when he lays his eyes on her. It disgusts her. "Please help me" he sputters out. Tayla smirks and kicks her foot backwards, allowing his hand to fall to the ground. One would think that he were stabbed by the way he was reacting.

"Ah Lucius what a pleasure to finally meet you again. I was hoping our reunion could've been a bit more joyous. But unfortunately, someone had to ruin that for me." She spits at the ground and grunts. "I suppose I'll have to make due with a shortened version." She takes her time loading her crossbow, keeping a wary gaze at Lucius in case he tried anything. It could've been the shock but he didn't seem to be moving anytime soon.

"Blah, blah, blah, it's about time you meet your maker-" she visibly cringes. "Right... This is lame. I swear I had this planned. Of course someone had to ruin it!" She points the crossbow at him and he immediately stops wiggling around. His eyes widen and he opens and closes his mouth. He seemed to rightfully assume that begging wouldn't do anything. "This is for all the people you hurt" she growls as she fires the crossbow at Lucius. Finally ending his suffering. She doesn't bother retrieving the arrow. Instead she glances around, seemingly for whoever attacked Lucius. "Alright, where are you?" She calls. "Don't worry, I promise not to hurt you if you come out!" This wasn't a lie, Tayla was at a disadvantage as long as her opponent stayed hidden.

-Oh? So we are telling stories now? If Tayla were in a book, she would be seen as a villain. Don't get her wrong, she does bad things for good reason, but that doesn't excuse her actions. What was the old saying? 'If you live by the sword, then you'll die by the sword?' Oddly enough, Tayla didn't mind dying by the sword. As much as she despised herself and her lifestyle, she couldn't imagine how boring a 'normal' life would be... whatever that was. Besides, maybe it was long overdue she got what she deserved. Her villainous lifestyle all happened due to one fateful night. A jealous mistress, a handgun, and a strong spell of sleep were all it took to change her life forever. If only things were different...

Maybe in a different life, things would be different for her. For example, Tayla had a boy on her mind. It was almost embarrassing just how often she thought about him. One would almost say that she was obsessed with him. But this wasn't some type of love-sick teen romance. No, this was a vengeance-filled violent obsession. Lucius Mcdaniel was his name. He had an endless list of crimes. The little rat somehow managed to survive during the fall of the world and Tayla was determined to ensure it didn't last long. Both her and Faustus had that in common- they loved to hunt rats.

"What do think Faustus?" Tayla asks from her position next to the busted-down window. The question was rhetorical, but she still paused for effect. "If things were different? Do you think I would've gone to school? Gotten married? Maybe I would be living down by the beach? Ah... maybe one day we can do all those things?" She chuckles to herself and turns to Faustus, who was grinning a toothy feline smile. That would never happen, not in her past life and certainly not now.

The coast seemed to be clear. Tayla hadn't spotted or even heard a creature for hours. Still, she wouldn't be safe on the street for long. She glances towards Faustus again, who was making his way loyally to her side. "Shall we go meet our prince?" She asks sarcastically. She turns towards the empty streets again and leaps out the window. The drop wasn't that large, but it still made a startlingly loud sound when she landed on the ground. She freezes, listening for danger. She only relaxes a little bit when she is met with tense silence. There was no telling if the silence was a good or bad thing.

She makes her way down the street, towards Lucius' last known location. It was a puny thing that Lucius seemed to be calling his home- it was more of a den than a house. A pile of rubble that had an opening wide enough for a human to live in. If she timed it well enough, he should be back. It was the perfect time to strike! She moves quickly and not too quietly. She sticks close to the busted-down buildings. If she had to, she would leap into one to hide. But she'd rather it not come down to that.

Like Faith, Bree was not exactly overjoyed to be back here. She had barely gotten any sleep last night. She had tried to spend as much time with her parents as possible, fearing that this may be the last. Now, she was almost certain that it would be.

"You want us to what!?" Bree asks. "I'm pleased by your sudden confidence in us, but I don't think we are exactly battle ready right now." Deep down, she knew that arguing wouldn't help. Tilly wasn't stupid, she had a good reason for making them do this. No better experience than the real thing. But she still felt the need to voice her objections.

She sighs and stretches, fixing her gaze towards her opponents. "Alright, if we're going to be beaten to a pulp, then we should focus on bringing down at least one person." She points to one of their opponents at random. Her finger was directed closest to the angry lady. "You! Sir- ma'am... Person.... Thing-" her voice gets weaker as she tries to guess who she is pointing at. "You're going down!" She shouts out confidently.

Deep down, Bree was worried. In reality, she wasn't entirely confident in her ability to shield yet. Healing? She could handle that fairly well. She was also positive that she could shield herself, but she wasn't confident that she could shield the others. Maybe if she got the group to attack her it would give the others a chance? Still, she wasn't strong enough to hold the shield very long and that's only if they were stupid enough to take the bait. Something told her that they were a bit smarter than that. She lowers her head towards the ground, desperately trying to think of a plan. She jumps in surprise when she hears the sudden explosion from Mehul's sword. Too late to plan, I guess we are starting now Bree thinks to herself as she prepares for the worse.

Cesar was still a bit flustered from the last interview. He hesitates before putting on his fake smile and standing up enthusiastically. "Up next is an interesting one folks! Bree Wilson!" He calls. The crowd politely applauds Bree on stage. Almost as if he could sense it, Fallon sticks close to her side, helping guide her to the chair. It seemed to be an impossible thing, a dog who was smart enough to know the situation and react accordingly. Cesar watches all of this with an impressed look and helps guide her down into the chair.

"Welcome Bree, you look lovely tonight-" indeed she did, her stylist's had once again put her in a new dress. Not that she really cared at this point. "How do you feel about going into the Games. Especially with your disability. Have you always had it?" Cesar asks.

"Yes" Bree replies to his final question first. "I've been blind since I was young. But I'm not going to let that get to me. I'll fight, just like every other tribute- my life is on the line anyway. Also, thank you for the compliment, you also look very lovely tonight." A few members of the crowd chuckle at her desperate attempt to make a joke.

"What's your plan for surviving?" Cesar asks. "I'm sure we're all very interested in hearing it." Bree tenses up at the question. This would be dangerous to answer, both as a truth or a lie. She wets her lips, desperately buying time so she can think about how she can safely answer this question.

"Surviving?" Bree asks. "I was actually hoping that my sponsors could drop down nice gifts to help me out. Maybe a lawn chair, some sunscreen, and a fancy drink. If I'm going to die, I would at least like to treat my last few days like a vacation." Once again, she uses dry humor to deflect the question. She couldn't tell if it worked or not. The heavy hesitation from both Cesar and the audience wasn't very encouraging.

"Final question, are you worried about bringing your dog into the arena?" Cesar asks.

"You mean Fallon?" Bree smiles, once again remembering the time he first found her. He was a stray, she could tell from his dirty fur while petting him. He must've been living in the woods, because there was dried blood on his fur. It was the first thing her parents noticed when he followed her home. Fallon knew how to survive, that was clear to Bree. She was certain that out of the two, he would last the longest. But she wasn't going to tell the audience any of this. "No" she simply answers.

"That's all I have for you then. Good luck Bree" Cesar tells Bree with a smile. He helps her out of the chair and sends her away towards the backstage. Fallon, ever so loyal, never once leaves her side.

Tayla Mckee

~"I would, and I will. You know my theory. Plunge in. Face the fear head-on. Stay on the offense." (-Koethi Zan)~

Gender: Female

Age: 19

Personality: Tough, quiet, and deceiving. Tayla could lie her way out of anything. "It's all about adding a few half-truths within your lie." Tayla comes off as cold-hearted and intimating; but deep down, she is a kind-hearted person. She is simply too kind. She'll do the ultimate sin of killing someone if it means protecting an innocent person.

Appearance: Tayla is quite tall, standing at about 5'7. She has wavy shoulder-length strawberry blonde hair and light brown eyes. She has a heart-shaped face with tan skin and light freckling on her nose. She has a horizontal scar on her right cheek. Because of her job, she usually wears whatever is suitable to best camouflage within her environment. Whenever it's fitting in with civilians in a busy city or wearing camo in a woodsy area, Tayla doesn't have the luxury to choose her own style.

Backstory: Tayla's life has been nowhere near normal. At a young age, her family had been killed at the hand of a jealous mistress which almost resulted in her own death. She was forced to live with her grandpa, who took her in as a warrior rather than a daughter. He trained her to become a monster. A ruthless and silent killer. But she used her skills for good, she became an excellent vigilante. This was before the world crumbled apart at her feet.
Now she is in hiding and fighting to survive. But old habits die hard, she continues to fight for the weak and rescue the taken. Even in this wrecked world, there are still plenty of evils to squash.

Skills: Tayla is a weapons master. She is pretty decent at knife and ax throwing, but excellent at sharpshooting. She arms herself with a crossbow, a quiet weapon that is built similar to a gun. Perfect for her new environment.

Weaknesses: Tayla is pretty strong for her age. She could hold her own in a fight against an inexperienced fighter. But, if she fights someone with a bit of training, it's all over for her. Tayla is used to overwhelming her opponent from a distance, no need to get her hands dirty. If her opponent can catch her by surprise and get close to her, she'll be done for.

Daemon: Cougar named Faustus
