indentJade, for one thing, is intelligent - with a creative and analytical mind, he is capable of reading a room - and a situation - a pragmatist at heart, he has a natural penchant for puzzles - viewing them as an intertwining of many different situations, rather than a tangled web. However, this intelligence is often applied in a different way than what is normally expected. Having been forced to endure what he would call more than his fair share of court politics, his intelligence manifests in a way that allows him to read into the psychology of his peers. He has a way of developing - or feigning - a type of empathy, or understanding. He addresses problems in a rational and level-headed way, and tries to leave a solution for others to ponder. Harsh insults and barbed words - unless directed at those whom he holds dear - are usually ignored, brushed away or dealt with quickly. Emotions and logic are easily confused in his mind, and he returns to what he is comfortable with — an escapist that refuses to admit it.
indentIronically, given his empathetic facade, his domain of understanding does not stem from a true emotional foundation. Rather, Jade's psyche is mis mind. He has a cerebral mindset, one that is most closely aligned with the facets of logic and factual evidence. True companionship is something of a rarity in his eyes, because through a rather black-and-white worldview has evolved a rather blunt way of dealing with his life. Psychology plays a part, but he tries to see things at face value for what they are, rather than trying to figure out the contours of human unpredictability. Jade tends to be rather frank in conversation, addressing the situation in a way that does not always allow for comfort and warmth. To more skeptical eyes, Jade is someone who is better called severe or even callous which isn't far from the truth. It's a paradoxical dichotomy between mind and self that many people have trouble understanding - and others often treat his aloof persona with disdain and resentment. This has made him a certain pariah in the Court, a problem for which there is little remedy. Ironically, even though Jade is aware of this, he makes no attempt to change it. He would rather have a close-knit circle of reliable friends than a wide circle of acquaintances.
indentIn a state of focus, Jade is relentless, leaping from one debacle to the next without taking a break. Highly action-oriented, he has a certain disregard for what he would deem 'useless' rules and regulations. Furthermore, saddling him with easy and routine tasks, however necessary they are, is a quick way to bore him half to death and lose his interest. At times, this apparent overlook of rules makes him a bit of a maverick. This isn't to say that he believes he is above such mundane tasks as it is to say that he believes they are merely excuses and not a way of moving forward. He remains wary of suspected nepotism, believing that rank should be achieved through hard work and achievement. Sadly, this is not always the case. He has grown cynical during his time in court, not trusting other people to act with altruism unless it is a last resort. Jade holds strangers at a cold arms length, and sometimes he comes across as unfriendly to outsiders.
indentUnsurprisingly, Jade is a highly independent person, preferring to take on lone-wolf positions instead of those that involve reliance on large numbers of people. This is due to forming strong opinions - and a preferred method of action - very quickly. Due to his stubbornness, it can take a lot to cause divergence. Despite his prickly exterior, however, lies a very different person. In contrast to his resilient bearing, he needs time to shed his repressed and mask and let loose. In tandem with his mental acuity, Jade has developed an expansive vocabulary, which he proudly displays through sardonic quips and one-liners. Darkly humored and sharply witted, Jade knows how to get a reaction out of somebody, whether to satisfaction or sorrow. In addition to his wit, his relentless spirit ensures that he will follow those who earn his respect, to the grave. He is devoted, willing to go to the ends of the earth if it keeps his friends safe. With an extensive memory, he rarely forgets the many ways people have thrown generosity and kindness his way, and he always honors their deeds. One good deed may not be enough to earn a lifetime of camaraderie, but that does not mean it is meaningless either. Unfortunately, this leads into one of the more negative aspects of his personality.
paragraphThis extensive memory is a double-edged sword. Not only does Jade remember the ways his peers have honored their connection with him, he also remembers those who have merely used him for their own ends. Revenge is a common taste to his tongue, and he has not yet been desensitized to violence. He is unafraid to resort to brutality and coercion in order to demand another make amends. In essence, he has become a highly vindictive person. He can be surprisingly quick to violence in this sense, slitting the throats of his enemies with a unhinged smile on his face. This cuts a sharp contrast to his usual calm demeanor, a ruthless contrast that often leaves his opponents flat-footed. His anger stems from a history of being used and abandoned, feeling the effects firsthand. Unfortunately, some of this rage has manifested itself in anxiety and regret. Jade cannot help becoming so rueful at times, and tends to internalize the blame for things gone wrong in the past. Typically, he struggles to find closure, and this blame chases his thoughts for years on end.
paragraphFirst impressions are crucial, and Jade tries to keep his demons concealed behind a mirror-smooth calm and watchful eyes. Sullen but observant, he tries to avoid jumping into situations impulsively, instead choosing to watch and analyze from a distance before making a (usually educated) guess. Though distant, he tries to put up a polite facade, answering questions politely to avoid further questions.

□ Backstory
indentIn the beginning, there were five of them, five of them altogether. Jade was born into a family with two healthy siblings, the oldest child. Everything seemed all right at first. Born with hair as dark as the night and vivid amber eyes, he was the clear splitting image of his father, a restless and stormy man who spent more and more time away from home. Both of his siblings took after their mother somehow, with their bright eyes and easy cheer. Carlynne, his sister and the youngest was blithe, but frail. Calverus, his brother, was tender and warm. Together, they were a happy bunch. Not quite as rambunctious as his siblings, Jade found himself on the side while his siblings tussled and played.
indentNevertheless, as the eldest child, he was responsible for corralling them and looking after their welfare, which he undertook half-heartedly. He had no intention of being the strict father figure after all. He often delighted his mother with his keen observations and a bright mind, which would soon lead him to despair.
indentAs the years passed, months bleeding into years, the tension between Jade's parents escalated rapidly. Arguments in the middle of the night filled the house with frightening noise. Too frightened to do much else, Carlynne and Calverus hid in Jade's room, their hands over their ears, shaking. That is how Jade grew up - the guardian of his siblings. He was their rock, the reliable one, even as their family lost what money it had and began to struggle for survival. What interactions Jade did have with their father ended with pained words and cruel blows. It was clear that their father did not want anything to do with him. The boy never retaliated, choosing to protect his siblings instead of risking a fight. Cal inquired after their father with trailing words and innocent questions, but Jade shut him down at every turn. It was painful to watch their mother starving for everything life could give while his father took whatever he wanted. Her strength waning by the day, Jade found himself a primary caretaker, watching over his siblings until the day that they were separated. Unfortunately, that day came all too soon. Their mother's strength dwindled to a sprout, and under the ruthless blows of her husband, she soon passed away, no longer able to provide for her children. With the last of his financial resources gone, Jade's father resorted to selling his children for work, though they were but children at the time. The children were ripped apart - Carlynne too frail to do the same brute-muscle work as her brothers.
indentLife on the streets was hard and grueling. Disagreements and arguments were rife as hunger set in for them, but the bond between Calverus and Jade remained firm. The older boy refused to let his brother starve, learning to cheat and lie for food if necessary. The people he met was distant or thuggish, people who had never had the opportunity to live the good life. With each beat-down, every fight, Jade learned the lessons of survival. He learned which people to avoid, and which people to approach for his various needs. What he learned, he passed on to his brother. But the more he learned, the more Jade became cold and withdrawn, his childish innocence worn thin by reality. But he refused to lay a hand on his brother outside of sparring practice, no matter how mad he was. He was not like his father.
indentEventually, Jade's heists secured the notice and favor of what seemed to be a relatively well-off street gang that operated on the outskirts of the court's territory. Though they initially seemed to be a mere group of hooligans, it became apparent that they were actually rebelling against the court's wealthy nobility, who they saw as over-privileged. Jade agreed to help out - more for the thrill of it than anything. Having developed a rather rebellious nature during his trying years, he bickered constantly with the leader of his cell - a stubborn and authoritative woman named Erin Sokolov. Though well-meaning, her harsh nature chafed greatly with his defensive one, and he struggled to earn her favor. But he proved to be useful, and she kept him around. He also learned to extend the trust to the others in the cell, and help Cal adjust. But like other relations in his past...this one did not end well for him or for his brother.
indentMaybe they'd grown too cocky or too ambitious, but the raid he embarked on that frigid winter night would be his last. Caught in a crossfire with what was apparently a well-calculated ambush, the group suffered heavy casualties. Through no fault of his own, Faolan found himself bleeding into unconsciousness from several injuries. His vision blurring, the last thing he remembered seeing was Sokolov gazing him straight in the eye, and walking away.
indentHe had been betrayed for the second time.
indentFaolan spent half a year in prison, interrogated relentlessly for any information on the rebellion that he could offer. Their methods of inflicting pain was as horrible as they were creative, but the pain only made him more restless.

All that has come and passed, as it has always in the history of humanity. Kingdoms rose and fell, to be remolded into empires. But now, that is no more. In an era of faux prosperity and forced peace, there is only one organization on top, with the power and influence that could rival a empire at its prime. There is someone at the top of the pyramid, and they intend to stay that way.

For over fifteen years, the Mafia has reigned with an iron-fisted totalitarian rule over the city of Aureatus, a dystopian version of modern day New York City. They control most, if not all, of the major facets of their citizen's lives, and use force, coercion and even assassination to stifle rebellion. The leader, who's reputation is both widely feared yet somewhat enigmatic, keeps a cadre of five top operatives as his main playing cards, with other lower-ranking soldiers working for him as well. Keeping their real names hidden from the public, this mysterious group have formed a tight-knit bond built on teamwork and keeping the Mafia and their leader in power. However, the wealth in the city still flows, and the old festivities are allowed. Life is still considered "peaceful" if you don't land yourself on the Mafia's radar. Perhaps, there is something more than "fear" that keeps an all-out coup from occurring.

And yet...a rebellion has flourished in recent years. Small, but growing rapidly, like a flame in the brush. Coming into the open, a new group who call themselves Phoenix One - armed with sharp wits and sharper blades - have begun to ignite the flame of rebellion. They made their presence known with daring incursions, striking against the Mafia's facilities and taking up arms. One thing is for sure, this stubborn family will not be beaten down without a fight.

But little do either of these two organizations know that there are others out there who want a slice of the Mafia's power. At any moment, old enemies will rear their head. In this dark underground, power is never guaranteed, and those who do not fight for their cause risk losing it all.

1. I trust that anyone reading this already knows the standard RP rules. No God-modding, bunnying, etc. This should not be something I have to write down
2. I also trust that everyone understands that the standard PH rules apply
3. This rp has limited slots. I'd rather the character slots listed be taken, and after that, we can discuss any other characters who can live a normal life outside of the war.
6. Please keep powers reasonable
7. This is a semi-lit and above RP. That means sentences and paragraphs. If I am unsure about your RP ability, I reserve the right to request an RP sample
8. The password doesn't actually exist. You don't have to put anything down unless you want to just for fun. Just fill everything out in the form correctly and remove anything in parenthesis

General Plotline

Gangs and violence. Dark intrigue and Machiavellian politics. Blood and coins.

All that has come and passed, as it has always in the history of humanity. Kingdoms rose and fell, to be remolded into empires. But now, that is no more. In an era of faux prosperity and forced peace, there is only one organization on top, with the power and influence that could rival a empire at its prime. There is someone at the top of the pyramid, and they intend to stay that way.

For over fifteen years, the Mafia has reigned with an iron-fisted totalitarian rule over the city of Aureatus, a dystopian version of modern day New York City. They control most, if not all, of the major facets of their citizen's lives, and use force, coercion and even assassination to stifle rebellion. The leader, who's reputation is both widely feared yet somewhat enigmatic, keeps a cadre of five top operatives as his main playing cards, with other lower-ranking soldiers working for him as well. Keeping their real names hidden from the public, this mysterious group have formed a tight-knit bond built on teamwork and keeping the Mafia and their leader in power. However, the wealth in the city still flows, and the old festivities are allowed. Life is still considered "peaceful" if you don't land yourself on the Mafia's radar. Perhaps, there is something more than "fear" that keeps an all-out coup from occurring.

And yet...a rebellion has flourished in recent years. Small, but growing rapidly, like a flame in the brush. Coming into the open, a new group who call themselves Phoenix One - armed with sharp wits and sharper blades - have begun to ignite the flame of rebellion. They made their presence known with daring incursions, striking against the Mafia's facilities and taking up arms. One thing is for sure, this stubborn family will not be beaten down without a fight.

But little do either of these two organizations know that there are others out there who want a slice of the Mafia's power. At any moment, old enemies will rear their head. In this dark underground, power is never guaranteed, and those who do not fight for their cause risk losing it all.

Rules

1. I trust that anyone reading this already knows the standard RP rules. No God-modding, bunnying, etc. This should not be something I have to write down
2. I also trust that everyone understands that the standard PH rules apply
3. This rp has limited slots. I'd rather the character slots listed be taken, and after that, we can discuss any other characters who can live a normal life outside of the war.
6. Please keep powers reasonable
7. This is a semi-lit RP. That means sentences and paragraphs. If I am unsure about your RP ability, I reserve the right to request an RP sample
8. The password doesn't actually exist. You don't have to put anything down unless you want to just for fun. Just fill everything out in the form correctly and remove anything in parenthesis
9. I reserve the right to reject your form. I also reserve the right to give out warnings and kick people out if I see fit
