Lani covered her mouth with her paws, eyes wide because literally what happened? She’d zones out.

Was that a Salamence? Wasn’t it a dragon type? And wasn’t she a fairy type? Which meant that she would have a strong type advantage over it? And wasn’t it coming at the club right now?!—

Seeing it charging up a hyper beam, Lani leapt forward to use dazzling gleam on the Salamance.

“So how’s Palkia holding up?” The comment was so casual, Connor nearly missed it.

But he didn’t. He shrugged and kicked his legs idly, sending ripples through the water. “Fine, I guess. I haven’t really talked to him.”

“Ah,” Mel nodded, turning her eyes back to the water. “.. You know, Giratina doesn’t hate him.”

“But you do,” Connor pointed out.

Mel grinned, blue eyes dancing. “Nah, its a sibling thing. All siblings pick on each other.”

“They don’t kill each other.”

“Bold of you to assume Mia’s still alive.”

It was quiet, and then Connor let out a snort, shaking his head. “Sure. Okay.”

“So this is where you’ve been.”

Mel was sitting by the waterfront, legs dangling over the edge as she tossed a rock into the water, watching it splash down. “Whole time.” She agreed.

“Where’s Riu?” Connor asked, sitting down beside her and taking the rock she offered him.

“Pokeball,” The girl said, skimming another rock across the surface of the water. “.. Do you believe in coincidence?”

Connor frowned. “I believe in fate.” He settled on saying, tossing the rock. “Why? You okay?”

“Yeah I just,” Mel broke off, rolling a rock in her palm. “Been having weird dreams, that’s all.”

“Like what?” Connor’s frown deepened.

The girl sighed and dropped the rock onto the ground beside her. “Of failure. Because let’s face the facts, Con. Mira’s down. Tiger’s stubborn. And none of us are invincible. I don’t—“ Her breathing hitched and suddenly she was choking on air. “I’m so sick of losing people.”

Conor reached for her discarded backpack, rummaging around in it for her inhaler, pointedly ignoring the shaking great ball that housed a frustrated Roserade. “Yeah. I know.”

As soon as Mel’s breathing was back under wraps, he reached out to touch her shoulder. “None of us are going to die.”

She nodded.

“G’night, Tiger.” Mel yawned, shaking the tension out of her body. The brunette stretched her arms above her head. “Okay. Imma wipe out if I stay here any longer. Hospitals are scary. Anybody want food? I’m not that hungry, but I might as well steal a muffin.” She remarked as she exited the hotel room.

“You liar, you’re starving.” Connor said. “Night Tiger.” He added as he trailed after the girl.

“Bold of you to assume I’ve ever claimed to be anything but stupid.” Mel called back from the hallway.

“Stop there, stop there. That’s Riu-level self-degrading.”

”Hilarious, Connor.”

“Sorry, buddy— What, Colin?” The boy doubled back to peer into the room.
