The loss of House points was quite the bummer, and Callisto grimly noted that DADA was on a different day. Of course, there was also the stress of not one, but two people outside of her family knowing her little secret. "Password?" The Fat Lady inquired, and Callisto answered with a dull, "Spattergroit." The portrait promptly swung open, and Callisto listlessly entered her common room, her hand instinctively reaching for a book. She reckoned she could get a few pages of reading in before heading for lunch. The thought of the latter made her rebellious stomach grumble in protest, and Callisto ignored it as she flipped open a random book she had taken out of the library, seating herself near the fireplace in one of the loveseats. Making herself comfortable, Callisto found her thoughts wandering from her book, and she set it down with a frustrated sigh. Nightmares had been plaguing her for some time. Around a year or so, and a particular one just couldn't get out of her head. "You might be strong enough, little girl. But how strong will you be when I destroy every single last person and thing you care for?" "Not on my watch," Callisto thought, her body temperature raising slightly as her hair slowly and steadily began to burn. [Read more] |

Calypso easily kept up with the other two's pace, narrowing her eyes suspiciously at the archway. A feeling of foreboding hit her, alarming all her senses, human and Binary. "I've been here before," she muttered out loud, trying to rack her memories but coming up with a blank. "Cross into worlds unknown, through the great pines of Mount-" Calypso started to sing and faltered, amethyst eyes widening. "Doe." In a flash her fingers were running across the one of the pine trunks. She was trying to send her senses through the trunk, attempting to figure out its origin. Something tugged at the back of her mind, but she couldn't quite figure out what it was. Staring intently at her moving hand, something set off her radar. It was tracing a pattern not unfamiliar to her. A bending curve that represented a tree... And the crescent moon. Calypso yanked her arm back with a cry of shock as realization flooded her. Her sensitive Binary senses were overloaded as blurry visions hit her mentally. "Whatever you do, don't hurt any of the wildlife!" She croaked out in pain as she stumbled back from the tree, her arm throbbing with nonexistent pain. It was clever, she grimly acknowledged. Physical damage was hard, but durable. Mental damage, however, was a whole different story altogether. It was based on a lot of factors, almost seemingly like random. Making it a clever, strong, and unpredictable technique to take out your opponents. "This," She panted heavily as the pain (much too slowly) ebbed away, "is Pan and Artemis' shared territory. I'll let you decide if that is a good thing or not." She halfheartedly glared at the pine tree, her head now swimming with strange, incomprehensible images, gathered probably from the tree's own memories. Tapping into its life force using her Latias Binary sense had activated the defense mechanism, she reckoned. [Read more] |

Matilda, was in no way, a happy camper. Well, pondering the thought, she noted that she would probably end up sitting in the shadows, watching the other campers sing songs around the fire. A grim smile curled her lips for a brief moment as she tugged absentmindedly at her backpack strap. She had a habit of doing that when she was preoccupied with her thoughts. Letting her eyes scout out the area she was in, Mattie dully took in the details. She was in a more peaceful area of the city, the houses freshly painted and every lamppost in its place. It certainly was more cheerful than some places in the city she knew. As she left the area, heading for home, she glanced back, seeming to have something in mind. Whatever it was, she quickly brushed it away, making room for other thoughts as she broke into a sprint. She eventually stopped in front of a two-story white house with a few balconies scattered along the walls in a seemingly random pattern. Without stopping to use the old-fashioned brass door knocker, Mattie twisted the doorknob and flung the door open with enough force to make it slam against the inside wall, making quite a noise. "I'm home!" She called out as she slipped off her backpack and headed into the kitchen. The kitchen was a normal kitchen besides the fact it was overloaded with all unfinished paintings and different kinds of art supplies. During mealtimes, the out-of-place things were pushed aside to a little corner. However, whenever the kitchen wasn't used, it was Liza's studio. Liza, Matilda's foster mother, looked up from her work to smile at her daughter. She was wearing her "artsy" outfit: a paint-splattered white shirt and gray sweatpants with a similarly paint-splattered white apron. Liza's brown orbs momentarily glanced at her daughter when she walked into the kitchen/studio before turning her attention back to the empty canvas in front of her. Liza was seated on a rickety wooden three-legged stool, her left arm outstretched slightly in front of her holding a paintbrush daintily. "Mattie, dear, could you get me that box by the teapot?" Liza requested serenely, referring to a medium-sized brown box still bound tightly by sticky yellow tape. Mattie nodded and trod over, easing the box off the table, careful not to bump into anything as she carried it over to her mother. The sticky tape clung to her skin even when she attempted to drop it, and it peeled off after an intense tug that caused her eyes to water. Liza frowned disapprovingly at the box, shaking her head as she dropped her paintbrush and took a pair of double-bladed scissors from her apron pocket. "I really dislike it when that happens. Delivery people can't even bother to remember to not use double-sided tape," Liza told her daughter as she cut through the tape with some difficulty. The tape was sticking to the metal as she cut through, forcing her to jerk the scissors at certain points. "How was school?" Liza inquired as she pulled on a pair of old gardening gloves lying nearby and began to peel the tape off, wrinkling her nose in disgust as she did so. Matilda's face darkened considerably, which her mother immediately took note of. Liza returned the scissors to their original place before looking at her daughter with clear concern, the unopened box momentarily forgotten. Pulling off the gardening gloves, Liza shifted into a more comfortable position on her stool before speaking. "What happened?" Her daughter's shoulders sagged before replying in a monotone. "Detention for the rest of the week." Liza raised an eyebrow, which unlike her electric blue hair, was a nice dark brown. "What did you do this time?" Liza asked, both curious and concerned. "I may or may not have knocked someone unconscious," Mattie admitted sheepishly, her fingers playing with a stray lock of hair. "Mattie," Liza scolded her with two syllables. "I'm not going to ask for the details. I wanted to show you something, and I don't want your troubles with the rest of the school spoil this one." Relief flooded the young teen, but Liza hastily added, "Your father, however, will probably have something to say about this." Noting that her mother refused to give her a false sense of security, Matilda sighed and looked down at the box in Liza's lap. "So what's in the box, Mum?" Liza opened the box with relative ease, pulling out its contents. "See for yourself." Matilda was taken aback at the sudden purple that swam into her eyes. She blinked twice, her eyes adjusting to the new color, and began to take in what it was. It was a hooded cloak of a rich purple that somehow seemed to reflect the fading light from the windows, causing anyone who looked for too long to become somewhat blind. The edges of the hood and the hem of the cloak were embroidered with strange astral symbols, some vaguely familiar to Matilda, some completely alien. The cloth seemed to shimmer with a billion different shades of purple whenever it moved, giving it a mysterious yet beautiful appearance. "Woah," Mattie murmured, staring at the strange fabric. "Whose is it?" Liza smiled brightly, folding the cloak neatly and returning it to the box. "Yours. I was browsing through some catalogs and saw it. I thought you might like it," Liza explained, shutting the box tight and pushing it into a stunned Mattie's hands. "But, you didn't have to get me anything!" Matilda, having regained her senses, protested. "Consider it an early birthday present, sweetie. I'm glad you like it," Liza smiled, dismissing her with a wave. Matilda opened her mouth to protest, but Liza turned her back already having picked up her paintbrush and dipped it into a can of paint. With a reluctant sigh, she headed out the kitchen, up the stairs, and into her room, dropping the box onto her bed. Not even bothering to get out of her school clothes, Mattie opened the box once more, pulling out the beautiful cloak. There was a superhero fad going on with all the crime going around the city, and the cloak certainly looked like something you could wear to a costume party. Looking at it now, watching it shimmer along with the last rays of the sun, Matilda was shot with a feeling of foreboding. "I wonder..." She thought out loud, turning to her wardrobe and flinging it open, rummaging for something. Clothes were pushed aside hastily in a messy manner, until she triumphantly emerged with a a parcel wrapped in brown paper and tied with twine. The twine had been untied before, only to be knotted back soon after. Matilda hadn't given it much thought then, but now... She brought the parcel to the bed and tugged at the twine, attempting to pull it off instead of untying it due to her impatience. It wouldn't budge. With a frustrated sigh, Matilda felt her fingers grow warmer in irritation. Grabbing the twine again, it crumbled to ashes at the sudden rising of her body heat. Matilda impatiently ripped off the brown paper, causing its contents to tumble on to her bed covers. A folded tunic, a sleeveless black garment with silver latches, lay on top of a folded pair of black trousers. Matilda placed her hand against the clothing, recalling that night just a few months ago when her parents bought her this for Christmas. She'd liked them, but never really got to use them. Quickly dressing herself into them, Matilda then cautiously pulled the purple cloak on, hood on. She turned to her mirror, eyes lighting up in delight as she saw herself. "Oh wow, I look like something from a freaking comic book," She muttered in awe. The cloak was long enough to conceal her trousers, ending at her ankles. With the hood on, her dark blue eyes sparkling out of the darkness, and the cloak shimmering like an aurora of purples, she certainly looked like something from a magic realm. Her bare feet, after having kicked her sneakers off, however, kind of ruined it. Mattie fixed that by grabbing her purple combat boots studded with silver diamonds (she did have quite the fancy for silver and black) - which was reserved for special occasions - from the wardrobe and slipping them on. Mattie spent a moment taking note of how well she'd fit in a Marvel Comic right then when her mother called from downstairs, announcing dinner. She quickly got dressed into her normal clothes, carefully securing her future Halloween costume in the box which had previously held only the cloak. Her boots, however, she shoved back into her wardrobe before heading downstairs. [Meep, had to end it quickly. Plus was getting too long c:] [Read more] |

A rare, bitter smile curled Lue's lips as she absentmindedly started her ascent. Perhaps she should retire for the day, cocooned in her oak tree home. She resurfaced, slipping onto the shore before morphing into her nymph form. Her flowing blue gown billowed around her for a split second due to the residue of the power she emitted in between transformations, and she paused in her movements to wiggle the feeling back into her almost translucent feet. You are terrible at socializing. Thanks for rubbing it in x.x Um, so uhh, Sansan (SandeviRae) told me to sign up 'cause this roleplay's dying or something. Would it be alright if I created a character that's neither a loner nor a Squad One member? Like, wild card. Mainly because her powers ain't gonna be...stable. Also she's pretty young so she won't be a vigilante type, and mostly focuses keeps on her powers under control. Ummm, I'll just fill out the form x_x I mostly plan to let her join the Squad, but after a lot of shizzam first. Would that be okay? Name: Matilda Psyche Haywire Alias: None for now. Later on, "Khao." Age: 14 Gender: Female♀ Alliance: At first, unknown, but tends to lean towards the good side. Later on, Squad One. Interests: Reading. She almost always carries around her bookbag with her. She enjoys learning new things, as well as constantly surfing the internet. Writing is one of her hobbies, and she tends to be found tapping away at her laptop at times, greatly engrossed in an idea. Appearance: With eccentric electric blue hair and stormy blue eyes, Matilda definitely stands out. Her long hair is usually kept in check with a blinding white headband, and it is occasionally set in a ponytail. Her stormy orbs switch to a menacing purple when using her powers. Matilda is often seen wearing worn out blue jeans and a black ruffled lace blouse, topping it with a silver cardigan. She either is seen with glossy black combat boots studded with silver diamonds or comfy black sneakers with white shoelaces. Slightly shorter than most girls her age, Matilda tends to get underestimated due to her height. Many a bully has tried to pick on her, laughing at her thin and frail-looking frame. Her skin is a sickly pale color, caused by rarely being out in the sun. The lack of color in her skin contrasts greatly with her eye and hair color. Despite all this, Matilda exudes a mysterious strength that makes people think twice before messing with her. She moves with an easy grace that is unnerving for someone who always looks like she's sick. Personality: Quiet and a nasty temper. Those words pretty much sum up Matilda. She's the quiet loner sitting in a corner, almost always perusing the pages of some book or another. Tending to blend in the shadows, sometimes Matilda can go unnoticed as long as she sticks to her silence. People do their best to avoid talking to her, since her dark eyes seem to convey a message of eternal suffering to anyone who looks at them. Not easily angered, Matilda will unleash the wrath of the entire world upon anyone who dares to aggravate her. She is unswervingly loyal to those she cares for, but only to a certain extent. Matilda thinks in a logical and whimsical manner that causes people to think she is naive, when in fact she is actually quite smart. For the most part, she seems like a quiet unexceptional girl with a knack for getting into trouble, not really drawing attention to herself. If she ever opens up to anyone, it will be revealed that she is quite sarcastic, both in all seriousity and in humor. She will stand up for anyone she feel is being wronged, tending to becoming very physical in doing so. However, she is not easy to converse with nor approach, becoming quite reclusive when someone attempts to do so. Abilities/Super power: →Energy manipulation: ![]() Her main and hands down most dangerous
power. This enables Matilda to manipulate pretty much any energy
source. Running water? Done. Electricity? Bam. Fire? Been there,
done that. Heck, energy produced by a death? All for it.
This may seem seriously overpowered, but in Matilda's case, it's not. It takes so much energy to do this, often Matilda ends up seriously hurt when she uses this power. Using this by pure willpower damages Matilda severely to the point she is on the brink of death. However, when she gets emotional, this power draws on her emotions, making her a destructive force and not damaging her for the time being. Matilda isn't very good with controlling this at first, only being able to manipulate fire without suffering serious/any injuries. This involves drawing on her own body heat and causing flames to shoot out of her fingertips. Doing anything major with this, like summoning extremely hot flames, will injure her, depending on how much power is used. As she progresses in self-training, she will eventually learn how to use minimal power with the best results, thus being able to avoid severely damaging herself as much as possible. She also will eventually learn how to use her memories and emotions as unlimited energy sources, avoiding hurting herself in all ways possible, but this will happen later on. Though in fact this DOES sound incredibly overpowered, I'd like to note this one little fact: a tired Matilda will not be able to use her powers to their full extent. Disregarding available energy sources, Matilda, if weakened (by pretty much anything including lack of sleep, hunger, etc.), will not be able to manipulate energy without damaging herself. I hope that's enough to make it not overpowered. • Ability to manipulate any energy source Basic: --■ Energy blasts --■ Energy conversion (Ex: body heat into fire) Advanced: --■ Energy absorption --■ Able to create things using energy (Limited, molecular) --■ Able to use energy to enhance physical abilities (Self-training) →Psychic Abilities: These are mostly passive, and Matilda manages to control these with more difficulty. Actually, at first, she is completely unaware she has these abilities. When she discovers these, Matilda will reduce use of her energy manipulation because it is easier to use her psychic abilities. Also, she cannot use both at the same time, for both require her full attention and concentration. • Telepathy This is a variety of psychic abilities Matilda will have. Though it looks like a lot (damn, this looks so overpowered it upsets me), I'm pretttyyyyyy sure most psychics have this. These abilities are mostly taken from the Sensitives in Skulduggery Pleasant, and the Powerlisting wiki. Basic: --■ Psychic Communication --■ Mind Reading --■ Telepathic Speaking --■ Telempathy Advanced: --■ Illusion Manipulation --■ Knowledge Projection --■ Knowledge Replication --■ Thought Manipulation --■ Psionic Inundation --■ Psychic Energy Manipulation (Combined with her skills in energy manipulation, this power is a force to be reckoned with.) • Second Sight Pretty sure this is self-explanatory. Unusually enough, when Matilda gains knowledge of her psychic abilities, this is the first one she completely masters, able to predict the future through sheer willpower. • Clairvoyance So basically ESP. --■ Psychic Navigation --■ Visual Linking If it seems too OPed (I'm damn sure it is), then I'd like to prod you towards the direction of this roleplay thread in hopes of convincing you that Mattie is not OPed. Her powers aren't exactly stable and stuff, plus her psychic abilities don't manifest until later, so she's basically left with the power of a nuclear bomb that can also kill her. Yay. History: Left at the doorsteps of a random orphanage in the outskirts of the city, Matilda never knew her parents. She grew up, a lonely child always with a book, getting shunned by the other children due to her eccentric appearance and whimsical opinions. Any attempts to bully her ended up with Matilda getting physical and the bully getting confined to their bed to heal their injuries. The orphanage's caretakers decided to leave her to her own devices as much as possible. Matilda was eventually adopted by an equally eccentric couple who, much to her delight, shared her unusual hair color. She kept a low profile at schools, doing her best to keep out of all the drama. She excelled greatly in her studies, acquiring praise and respect from her superiors. Mattie was barely seven when she first used her powers, by accident, of course. She hadn't been adopted yet then, and had been reading quietly in the corner of the orphanage's garden. A group of other children had come and begin to taunt her. In her anger, she set the whole garden on fire, also injuring many of the children. Fortunately, their caretaker quickly called the fire department. The building was unharmed, but the entire garden was burned to a crisp. The other children who had witnessed this were too terrified to speak to her or about the incident afterwards, resulting in the adults guessing they had been playing with matches. Her newly found abilities both scared and piqued Matilda's interest. Often, she would sneak out of the orphanage to test them out in the nearby forest. To both her delight and horror, she quickly narrowed her strange powers to being ergokinesis, also more commonly known as energy manipulation. After nearly destroying an abandoned building during a trip to the city, Matilda immediately resolved to try and control her powers. After some training out in the woods, Matilda finally traced a pattern between her sudden losses of control: she was always emotional. Realizing this, she isolated herself as far away as possible from everyone, practicing and honing her skills as best as she could. She learned to dismiss all the nasty remarks the other kids shot at her, and shoot back witty remarks to cool her temper. Mattie also learned immediately that using her powers were extremely exhausting and possibly fatal. Fire, she discovered, was the easiest form of energy she could manipulate, since she could control it without passing out for long periods of time. When she was adopted, Matilda moved to the city with her foster parents, raising the risks of being discovered as one of the "gifted." Mattie lay low during middle school, all the while training her abilities. She maintained a good relationship with her foster parents, though it was always evident that she preferred being alone. Extra information: Matilda is a carnivore, and she loathes veggies. Password: Spork. [Read more] |

"I like red," She replied in her usual carefree, childish manner. "I wish I didn't look so blue in either of my form. I suppose I should blame my parents, but it doesn't feel right," she added absentmindedly. She turned while continuously propelling herself with her shimmering blue tail, so now she swam with her face facing towards the surface. If one looked from a distance, all they would see would be a glimmer of light, reflecting from her scales. Luellia was perfectly camouflaged due to her almost translucent complexion. "I do hope you don't mind me tagging along. It gets lonely when you're a shunned hybrid," Lue stated calmly to the stranger. "I would be known as Luellia, I suppose. You are?" [Read more] |

"And how well did you know her to state such things?" Calypso countered as she activated her anti-gravity stars, floating herself gently down. Analissa was silent, and Calypso was satisfied. "I really miss those obstacle courses though," Calypso said absentmindedly. Truth be told, the obstacle courses had been Aeneas' idea, which was partly the reason she loved them. Their first kiss also had been during the middle of an obstacle course, but that was private. Calypso let her consciousness drift and connect to her old powers once more, letting her eyes flash orange as she viewed the surroundings skeptically. She noted that the sun was already high in the sky, meaning it would be going down quite soon. "We must not tarry," Calypso found herself reverting to her ancient tongue. "Riona must be given the blood by sunset, or...I shudder to think of the consequences. She would not be the first corrupted Binary, as far as I can gather from my successor's memories," She explained, her face darkening as she recalled Analissa's memory of a Binary getting corrupted. Corrupted Binaries were...unstable. They would last barely a week with horrifyingly enhanced powers comparable to even the godly legendaries, then shrivel into a mere husk of their former selves. It was grimly noted that even the Binaries, born from the pure power of a god and the love of two humans, succumbed to this darkness that was befalling the worlds. Calypso snapped out of her quaint reverie as she let Analissa's eyes return to their original amethyst color. Out of instinct, she began to hum an old tune that was alien to those who had not lived during the First Times. "And the strange creature cried, 'mew mew', as the other did, too, too, too...darkness befalling the innocent, holy Hera save our children, dear Artemis let thy brilliant moon shine, great Zeus let light rain from the heavens..." [Agreed, Sansan x.x Luckily I'm not in a murderous mood.] [Read more] |

Calypso managed to shake herself out of her little reverie. Worry later, act now, she decided as she launched herself to the air, purposely forcing her gravity stars to stop working. She found microscopic handholds one after another, playing a dangerous game as she leaped from one to another. Her feet found temporary places to place themselves, almost losing its fight against gravity just as she found another one. "You mean, climb first, then hike," she corrected as she clung to the rock, swaying in a daredevil manner, referring to the almost completely vertical and smooth terrain. [At least, I think we're mountain climbing. Right...?] "Remember when we were forced to do obstacle courses, Bella?" Calypso called out breathlessly as she leaped to grab at another hold. "It was kind of like this, just without the risk of dying an honorable and gruesome death." Deftly defying gravity, Calypso forced herself into a strong somersault, balancing her weight against the sudden wind that was rising in power. She grasped at another handhold, narrowly avoiding a painful fall. She dangled precariously for a half moment before her boots stuck to the rock stubbornly, sliding slowly down. "Dear Helios, I'm out of shape," she declared matter-of-factly. "Are you all fine down there?" [Read more] |

A closer look at the being, plus with water not blurring her vision, Luellia noticed the being looked more like a human with elfish features, noting its pointed ears. "Like mine," She thought a little sadly. She tilted her head, causing the water from her hair to drip back into the lake. "Hmm, I'm not really sure. I moved here just last year. Haven't really explored the land much," Luellia said, her tone a little wistful. Then, she snapped her almost translucent fingers at a sudden thought. "Oh wait, I'm sure I planted a willow last week. Should be fully grown by now. I think it's at the opposite end of the lake, though. Luellia blinked in confusion at the sudden purple fish swimming through the air. "Well, that is certainly not a native. That would have been a tasty snack for Dei," She remarked, referring to a dolphin friend as she peered curiously at the fish. There was something...off about the fish. Luellia spent a lot of time in the ocean, and she had seen many a mythical underwater dweller. When bored, she'd observe their habits all day, resulting in a vast knowledge about the beings. She wasn't too good with the land dwellers though. As she weighed the possibilities, she flickered subconsciously from nymph form to mermaid and back. [Read more] |

Luellia's pointed ears perked up when she heard someone singing along to her mer-song. Very few mystical beings knew the words, since most usually gained the urge to drown themselves before even registering them. Ah, it was worth to check and try if anyone else who didn't think she was a freak of nature was bored. She stumbled back into the lake, not even bothering to switch form. She could swim quite fine, she noted matter-of-factly to herself, her legs propelling her forward just as good as her tail. All the while, she kept up the singing. Under water, her eyesight was perfect. She smiled, sensing the subtle water currents, and glimpsing the silhouettes of the native fish as she swam by them. After a little more kicking, she eventually spotted a pair of feet, just dipped into the water. After some contemplation, Luellie decided she had nothing to lose and swam towards it, her head popping out of the water with a spray of water. Lue then realized that her gown was weighing her down, and with a bit of concentration, urged the waters to push her to the surface, letting her sit, dripping wet, on the top of the lake. She was now sitting on the water, shaking droplets everywhere. Blowing a piece of wet silvery blue hair out of her face, Lue peered curiously at the being who had been singing along to her song. It was definitely some kind of elf or dwarf, and not a native of the forests. It looked female, its red hair in a ponytail. The queer hat it wore, Lue identified as a magical object. "Probably something to increase magic abilities or something of the sort," Luellia decided. "Hello, it's a nice day out. What brought you to my lake?" Luellia asked cheerfully, before noticing the gauze on the elf's arm. "Oh, what's wrong with your arm?" [Read more] |
